#BBNaija updates: Housemates open up to each other during dating task

With the #BBSpeedDating Task given to the housemates Wednesday, Kemen was the focus for much of the night as he allowed Gifty, TBoss and Uriel in.

He spoke about his girlfriend back home and said that he liked when “a woman takes charge.”

He implored Uriel to give him a chance to date but she kept saying that he and Gifty looked so cute together.

His response, “when I see somebody, I don’t see anybody else.”

ThinTallTony played some of the girls up against each other as there were new alliances and friendships to be made. With Sunday’s Eviction letting Miyonse and Soma go, Gifty told Biggie that she didn’t miss Soma at all as she had previously said and that she was treating the Big Brother House as a hostel.

CoCoIce finally saw Kemen’s softer side as she was paired up with him as #BBCoCoMen during their #BBOnesie task.

It seemed as if the Housemates were jockeying for positions to avoid further Nominations.

Bisola, Gifty, Bassey, CoCoIce and Debie-Rise all did their best to charm their fellow Housemates and Nigerians to get as many Votes as they can.

Meanwhile, Bally and Gifty got all close and personal with their lips meeting for a kiss.

  • Real ‘Gobbe’ begins among BBNaija housemates

Real ‘Gobbe’ begins among BBNaija housemates

•As five housemates are up for possible eviction

Just two weeks into the show, the slogan for this year’s edition of the ongoing Big Brother Naija show, ‘See Gobbe’, a slang connoting commotion, is coming to bear, with the housemates now engaging in serious backstabbing, gossiping, outright confrontation and some perfidious strategy meant to edge one another out of the competition.

Reality of the game soon hit the housemates who had somewhat bonded so well in the first two weeks, when Soma and Miyonse were sacked from the show during last Monday’s live eviction show.

While the ladies shed tears crying out loud, the men showed signs of depression, but all that was for some few hours. By the next morning, they had warmed up for the next set of nominations which turned out quite surprising as Bassey, Bisola, CocoIce, Debie-Rise and Gifty were announced as the housemates up for possible eviction.

With last Sunday’s eviction still fresh in their memories, the housemates have come to understand the rule of the game, as they took turns in the diary room to nominate two housemates each, whom they wanted out of the house.

First up was Bally. He delayed the use of his green advantage card and nominated Bisola and TTT. New comer Debie-Rise nominated Marvis and Bisola while Kemen nominated Bisola and TTT. Next was CocoIce, who nominated TTT and Bassey; with TBoss going with Marvis and Bassey. For Bassey’s first nomination, he picked CocoIce and Kemen while Uriel nominated CocoIce (no surprise there) and TTT. Gifty nominated Bassey and CocoIce; and Head of House (HoH) Efe went with TBoss and CocoIce. Finally, TTT nominated Debie-Rise and Gifty; and Marvis nominated CocoIce and Debie-Rise.

At the end of the nominations, ‘Biggie’ called out CocoIce, TTT, Bisola, Debie-Rise and Bassey as the housemates with the highest nominations. As expected, HoH Efe was called on to save one of the housemates and replace with another. In less than 20 seconds, Efe opted to save TTT and put up Gifty in his place.

Speaking on the show, Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria said: “The next few days will no doubt be intense as five housemates will do all it takes to secure their places in the competition”. He also added, “With as little as N1,800 you can join in on the Big Brother Naija experience which is available on all DStv packages and on GOtv Plus.”

The next eviction show holds on Sunday, February 12. And viewers in Nigeria are expected to text the word “Vote” followed by their preferred housemate’s name to 32052. While for the rest of Africa, fans are told to follow the AfricaMagictv official account on WeChat and click on the menu option ‘BBNaija’ and select their preferred housemate. Voting had opened at 21h00 WAT on Monday, February 6 and will close at 20h00 WAT on Saturday, February 11.

Sponsored by online retail store, PayPorte, the show is aired 24/7 in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on all DStvpackages on channel 198 and GOtv channel 29.

BBNaija: Why I’m rooting for Efe, by Faithia Balogun

Big Brother Naija Housemate, Efe, who on Sunday escaped eviction from the reality television programme, surely has fans in high places. Among followers of the show rooting for him is Nollywood actress Fathia Balogun who says she enjoys watching the reality show because it makes her laugh and learn. She also revealed that Efe is her favourite housemate.
“I like Efe because Efe is Warri and I’m Warri,” she said. “So, Warri go stand for Warri.”
She also said she likes Basey as well as lovebirds, Miyonse and TBoss “because they are not fake.”
Miyonse was however evicted alongside Soma during last Sundays live show.
Despite criticisms that greeted the show over organisers’ choice of location when it started in January, Balogun said, “I’m a huge fan, so I will not criticise Big Brother.”
She spoke with The Nation at the weekend while on the set of ‘Roti’, a new movie by ace filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.
“Big Brother is Big Brother and whatever game they are playing, I like it,” Balogun said of the intrigues of the reality TV show.
”It makes people know the kind of person you are. You know that this guy is not a good guy. This guy is two-faced. And that is the way we are in real life. I was telling my staff, some people think that Big Brother is useless. But for me, I’m learning from Big Brother, because there are some people on the show that you will see and say; “I have someone like this.”

BBNaija: Funke Akindele-Bello seeks support for Bisola

Actress, Funke Akindele-Bello took to social media on Tuesday to gather votes for Bisola, one of the five housemates nominated for possible eviction next Sunday.

She showed her support by tweeting, “#bisola stays in the house!! Pls (Please) vote for her!!! Thanks.’’

Akindele-Bello made the appeal to enthusiasts and fans of the ongoing Big Brother Naija Reality (BBNaija) show.

She had earlier canvassed votes for Efe before the last eviction where she tweeted, “hmmmm na wah o!!! Why will CocoIce nominate Efe. #Efe is going nowhere. Please vote for him to stay o.’’

However, mixed reactions trailed her campaign for Efe as some applauded her while others thought it was not fair to others.

@Sugarou tweeted, “Funke Akindele, thanks for the online ginger for Efe.’’

@DeemonLa tweeted against the campaign saying, “Funke Akindele contributed to the Efe’s victory tonight and that is totally unfair to the other housemates.’’

Akindele-Bello’s followers on twitter geared up to vote for Bisola whom is said to act like the actress as they replied her tweet.

@DapoMarino, “She’s low key resembles you.’’

@Hai_ingrid, “I like the ginger, our girl stays!’’

The other housemates up for eviction this week are Bassey, Gifty, DebbieRise and CocoIce.

They will need to gather a lot of votes to remain in the house. (NAN)

Within minutes of being announced as the new head of house, Captain Efe was summoned into the diary room by Big Brother to receive the wager brief for the week.

Captain Efe was instructed by Big Brother that there seemed to be some tensions in the house and the task performed earlier was meant to be an ice breaker which he wasn’t sure achieved that objective.

Big Brother gave Efe the Brief with the theme of the week being BONDING!

Captain Efe is to instruct the housemates to collectively come up with a name for the squad as they will be faced with several challenges that will put their unity to test as a squad. They will also wager a percentage of their weekly shopping BB Naira allocations to the success of this task.

Names like BBN Titans, Sea Rangers, Power Squad, BBN Gladiators and The Gobbes were debated and a consensus was reached; the squad shall be called D’UNBREAKABLE TITANS. The housemates embraced their new squad name and even created a war cry befitting the name.

In addition, Captain Efe’s secret task by Big Brother includes to motivate the squad and help keep their spirits High at all times till a presentation is held at the end of the week during which Efe must get voluntary commendations from housemates.

  • How BBNaija contestants voted themselves for eviction

After last Sunday’s twists where two supposed evictees were pardoned  and the introduction of two new contestants, tension resumed Monday after three members were put up for possible eviction. They include the likeable Efe, amorous Miyonse and music devotee Soma.

It was the eighth day of the show and Biggie gave each housemate 45 seconds to make their nomination decision, leading to a gloomy feeling afterwards.

Only the two new housemates; Debbie-Rise and Bassey were exempted from nominating and being nominated.

Biggie kicked off the first live nomination show by calling Bally into the Diary Room. And there was no time wasted as Biggie asked Bally to give his two nominations in 45 seconds – same for the 11 other old housemates.

Bally voted out Miyonse and Soma; Bisola voted out Miyonse and Gifty; Kemen voted out Miyonse and Soma; TBoss voted out Miyonse and Gifty; TTT voted out Gifty and Miyonse; Uriel voted out Bisola and TBoss; Miyonse voted out Kemen and Marvis; Marvis voted out Miyonse and Gifty; Soma voted out Kemen and TTT; Gifty voted out CoCoIce and Bisola; Efe voted out Miyonse and TBoss while CoCoIce voted out Miyonse and Soma.

In all, eight housemates nominated Miyonse, including his presumed girlfriend, Tboss. Gifty got four nominations, while Soma ended up being the third housemates with the highest nominations with three nominations.

However, as is the tradition on the show, the Head of House must save one of the three and replace him or her. With the task of ‘save and replace’ rested on CocoIce as Head of House, she saved Gifty and replaced her with Efe.

The decision was shocking to most fans of the show who want Efe to remain in the competition for the prize of N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car.

  • BBNaija: Bally, Kemen, Marvis, TBoss and CoCo Ice up for mock eviction

BBNaija: Bally, Kemen, Marvis, TBoss and CoCo Ice up for mock eviction

It was nomination weekend last Friday and five housemates: Bally Kemen, CocoIce , TBoss and Miyonse were nominated by the housemates for eviction after receiving the least votes. Unknown to them was going to exit the house. Instead, Biggie had introduced two additional housemates, bringing the contestants to 14.
The mock eviction brought about the first tension ti be experienced by the housemates, while letting viewers know the disposition of one housemate to another.
Miyonse was saved by new Head of House Uriel, who replaced him with Marvis. Housemates were called into the diary room by Biggie who gave them up to 45 mins to name their choice for eviction.
The eviction notices was like a splash of cold water on housemates after just performing for Biggie and eliciting so much emotion that there was not a single dry eye in the house.
Miyonse chose TBoss and Soma. At the end of the day, Bally, CoCoIce, Miyonse, TBoss and Kemen had the least votes. HOH Uriel decided to save Miyonse and replaced him with Marvis when given the opportunity
    by Biggie.

  • BBNAIJA: WHAT A GOOFY OUTCRY

SENTIMENT and sense-of-reason both begin with an ‘S’, but they are miles apart in objective; more so that the latter is a double barrel positives with a suffix that gives sense a better place of pride: “’Reason’ is the capacity for consciously making sense of things, applying logic, establishing and verifying facts, and changing or justifying practices, institutions, and beliefs based on new or existing information.” – Wikipedia.

The outcry has been so much on the choice location of the ongoing big Brother Naija by Multichoice that many have lost their sense of reason. Why? It is Multichoice, a South African company and so, we must be careful so they don’t take too much of our money back to their country. On the other hand, we must protect our national psyche by making sure that the organisers compromise standard just to assuage our sulking persona.

It is a pity how we put the cart before the horse in our agitation for a Proudly Nigeria that has further reduced our pride in this seeming naked public dance.

There is a Yoruba proverb that says, “Until a child gets a firm grip of the sword, he dares not investigate his father’s killers.”

In the midst of the hullabaloo, I’m glad to observe that some individuals, despite their grouse with Multichoice over some unfavourable business partnership, have remained objective in this debate over the recording of the reality show in Johannesburg, South Africa. There are others too who understand the nitty gritty of such productions and have been speaking from experience and professional point of view. To worrywarts, BBN and perhaps any show for that matter is less Nigerian if it is not recorded in Nigeria. And I wonder how The Gambian Adama Barrow’s presidency is being perceived for being sworn-in in Dakar, Senegal.

I have not heard of any such boisterous uproar over the obvious stalemate of media institutions in Nigeria like this one that concerns 12 young Nigerians who are contesting for N25 million in a lifestyle reality show.

The Nigerian Film Corporation, Nigerian Film Institute, National Film and Video Censors Board, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA College and other media and entertainment enmeshed in one form of regressive state or another, have sold themselves to politics that has consequently stifled the growth of showbiz in the country, and no one seems to care. Rather, a foreign company which has impacted the entertainment space remarkably for over a decade becomes easy target for our deficiency.

NTA is as good as its heydays with productions like ‘Jaguar Half Hour’, ‘New Masquerade’, ‘Cockcrow at Dawn’, ‘Second Chance’, ‘Mirror in the Sun’, ‘Behind the Clouds’, ‘Basi and Company’ etc. Today, Mnet has created too many channels too numerous to mention and commissioned Nigerians on Nigerian sitcoms and soaps while also serving as the only remitting media platform for Nollywood films which most local TV stations have been showing without the consent of the producers.

The annual AMVCA award that involves Multichoice’s over 45 countries of broadcast holds in Nigeria and I just wonder if Nigerians were not the most winners of the now rested Big Brother Africa, our people could have cried sabotage.

Why must BBN be recorded in Nigeria if it is far cheaper for the organisers to record it in South Africa that has a purpose-built studio for the show? Why would Multichoice choose the ‘alternative fact’ by buying/renting power generating sets and spending so much on diesel when there is ‘absolute power’ in South Africa? Why must the organisers of BBN take the risk of producing a show that must not blink for 11 weeks in the face of the perennial fuel scarcity in Nigeria? Like Obi Asika said, “This is economies of scale. Mnet has a permanent BB House rigged in Jòzi and just need to re-work the set for the new show.”

For a show like BBN and others like it, is it out of place if the several NTA studios across the country is up-scaled alongside its much touted largest TV network in Africa? What about the Tinapa Studio; how much concerns have been shown by stakeholders in the entertainment industry as to leveraging on such facility?

I hear that the maiden edition of BBN in 2006 had problems of power supply despite being sponsored by a ‘generator’ company. And I wonder why anyone would, within the short time that organisers decided to stage the BBN show, expect Multichoice to build another BB House with like 64 cameras, 20km of cable, full master control room and extra three million dollars on production.

Rather than shouting blue murder, let us build our own media industry and understand that Mnet is in business to make money. And as long as they fulfil their obligation to government, your sentiment does not count.
