    Amun: Nigeria will get better

Ahead of the friendly game on the 29th, former scribe of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Fanny Amun waxed lyrical, displaying his poetic ingenuity as he described the situation and conditions for the revival of the Super Eagles.

In a chat with www.footballlive.ng Amun counselled the fans on the need to be patient with the current Eagles squad as they pass through this difficult refining process and building for the future. The 1993 FIFA Cadet World Cup-winning coach suggests it might take some time before the team hits killer mode once again, but also restated with confidence that the team is on course.

”I don’t think it’s the time to apportion blames to anybody.

”At the end there was a deficiency that needs urgency in efficiency now and that’s how I see the present and future status of the Eagles,” Amun said.

The convener of Single’s Platform, a non-profit organisation for young adults, Pastor Olaiwola Abiola, has presented three of his books: Understanding Marriage; The Mystery of the 5 Fingers and Sex! Kini Big Deal, reports NNEKA NWANERI

For the man of God, it was a dream come true, after years of waiting and putting ideas together. Last Saturday, Pastor Olaiwola Abiola, the convener of Single’s Platform, a non-profit organisation for young adults, launched three of his books at the Protea Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Many of his friends, young and old, were there to support him.

The books are: Understanding Marriage; The Mystery of the 5 Fingers and Sex! Kini Big Deal.

The Single’s Platform music group ushered in chairman of the event and president, Simnet Outreach Ministries in the United Kingdom, Prophet Simon Idowu, to speak, with song praise.

The prophet and Abiola’s late father, were friends.

He is happy that Abiola has kept the flag flying.

“I see in him a man with zeal for the work of God, just like his dad who gave everything. This is a calling from God he is attending to.”

Deputy Secretary, Mushin/Oshodi Isolo Province of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria Austin Ameh reviewed books: The Mystery of the 5 Fingers and Sex! Kini Big Deal. He said in the former, the author used the five fingers to explain the events that took place in Adam’s life.

The thumb represents purpose; the index finger for tasting, represents food; the middle, which is the longest finger, represents man’s potential and the shortest finger signifies man’s shortcomings.

Sex! Kini Big Deal comprises 88 pages and eight chapters.

The reviewer said the book gives  insight into societal decadence.

The book, he said, presents sex in God’s view with relevant spiritual references that will make the young  appreciate sex and practise it in the right sense.

Senior Pastor of The Incorruptible Seed Church, Magodo, Lagos, Morenikeji Ajayi spoke on the need to take the issue raised in the book seriously, because it is one of the treacherous areas of life that makes the end time more scary.

The church, he notes, is facing challenges in raising the standard of God in these perilous times.

“Abiola is preparing the next generation through these books, because long after he is no more, these books will still be useful.

Reviewing Understanding Marriage, by Daniel Asonye, likened marriage to driving a car on a long busy road, where there will be the need to observe traffic signals, speed limits and other vehicles and road users around.

“As you journey, there will be death traps and pot holes to avoid. Without doing all these, the journey can end up being fatal. The book is loaded with the myths and realities of marriage, for which many marriages fail because of the violation of the laws.

Abiola said his programme which  holds every third Sunday of the month,  has met the needs of youths outside the church, with many giving testimonies.

  • How to eat for better sex

Sexologists, cardiologists, and psychologists agree: how much (and what) you consume has a huge impact on your sexual health.

Spinach is a potent source of magnesium, which helps dilate blood vessels, according to Japanese researchers. Better blood flow to the genitals, as you’ve learned, creates greater arousal for men and women. Spinach and other green vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage, Swiss chard, and bok choy are also good sources of favorite sex nutrient—folate. Extra insurance for good reproductive health, folate may lower blood levels of a harmful substance called homocysteine.

    Unsweetened Tea

The antioxidant catechin found in tea promotes blood flow all over the body for sex power and brainpower; it enhances memory, mood, and focus. One particularly potent catechin, a compound called ECGC prevalent in green tea, is thought to increase fat burn. A study in the Journal of Nutrition found that people, who consume the equivalent of three to five cups of green tea a day for 12 weeks, experience nearly a five per cent reduction in body weight. Drink freshly brewed green or black tea every day, hot or iced. Bottled teas don’t offer the same benefits. And keep the sugar out of it. Unsweetened tea is an excellent alternative to high-calorie, sugar-laden soft drinks and juices. One 12-ounce can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar in it.

    Peaches and other fruits

If you are looking to add some deductions to your 1040 form, eat more grapefruits, oranges, and peaches. Men, who consume at least 200 milligrammes of Vitamin C a day improve their sperm counts and motility, according to research at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

    Eggs

Over easy, hard-boiled, or scrambled, eggs aren’t the most sensual food on the menu, but it’s hard to beat them for a fit and healthy body inside and out. Eggs are rich in vitamins B6 and B5, which help balance hormone levels and ease stress, and are important for a healthy libido.

    Seeds and Nuts

Pumpkin and sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, walnuts, and other nuts all contain the necessary monounsaturated fats with which your body creates cholesterol—and your sex hormones need that cholesterol to work properly.

    Beans and Extra Protein

Protein is so important to weight maintenance that you should eat it with every meal and snack. Proteins boost metabolism a little more during digestion than any other type of food. Plus protein increases metabolism by helping to build muscle and stall the muscle loss that naturally happens as we age. Muscle is more metabolically active than fat is, so the more lean muscle on your body the better at burning calories it will be.

    Fatty Fish

If, as doctors like to say, what’s good for your heart is good for your love life, oily coldwater fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and tuna should figure heavily into your weekly meal rotation. The omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA found in fish help to raise dopamine levels in the brain that trigger arousal, according to sexologist Yvonne K. Fulbright, PhD. Other health benefits: anti-inflammatory properties that fight blood clots and heart arrhythmias, better brain function, and protection against dementia.

    Oatmeal and Other Whole Grains

Eating oatmeal is one of the few natural ways to boost testosterone in the bloodstream. The male hormone plays a significant role in sex drive and orgasm strength in both men and women. Oats (as well as seeds, ginseng, nuts, dairy, and green vegetables) contain L-arginine, an amino acid that enhances the effect nitric oxide has on reducing blood vessel stiffness. L-arginine has been used to treat erectile dysfunction. Like Viagra, it helps relax muscles around blood vessels in the penis. When they dilate, blood flow increases so a man can maintain an erection. Oatmeal and other whole grains like whole-grain bread, brown rice, and barley also qualify as good-for-the-heart, better-for-the-gut foods.

    Oysters and Other Shellfish

In addition to their reputation as the ultimate aphrodisiac (thanks to their resemblance to female genitalia), raw oysters actually do have a connection to sexual function. Oysters hold more zinc than most any other food, and it is believed that this mineral may enhance libido by helping with testosterone production—higher levels of the hormone are linked to an increase in desire. Zinc is also crucial to healthy sperm production and blood circulation.

  • ‘Nigeria ‘ll be better under APC’

‘Nigeria ‘ll be better under APC’

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Audu Ogbeh spoke with JAMES AZANIA on the general elections and the people’s quest for power shift.

What’s your position on Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi’s call for a peace agreement between President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari,to avert post-election violence?

The most realistic peace agreement they can sign is to determine between God and man that each of them will abide by the electoral rules that guide all elections; avoid cheating, avoid using instruments of state, namely: The State Security Service, Police, Army and Navy to rig the elections to favour the incumbent. Government has the capacity, Buhari doesn’t have them. Those are the things that provoke actions; there is hardly any need for any agreement to be signed, because it won’t be worth the piece of paper for which to sign, if we lack dignity and integrity to be genuine patriots and say to ourselves, let the people decide.

Some are of the opinion that there is no ideological difference between the APC and PDP. What could be responsible for this?

Worldwide today, tell me what the ideological difference between  political parties are? Where are they? You can’t see a clear difference between the British type and the American type.

The Americans belief literally, in the uncontrollable capitalists, the British has welfarist arrangement within their own capitalism. But in APC, we will also want to think of ourselves as social a welfarist that promote the wellbeing of the people, by solving some of the problems which has been instituted in the last 30 years.

These outrageous interests prevent individual Nigerians from realizing his or her ambition. Dealing with power supply, this major issue alone if sorted out, the interest rate alone in this country can be under any circumstances be close to one digit, this can sort out electricity and provide security. What are the big ideological differences today?

Even, China cannot claim to be exactly a communist state anymore, so which ideological differences are we talking about? What are they? The ultimate ideological philosophy of any party is the ultimate wellbeing of the people, freedom from fear, molestation, threats and assaults by extra-legal forces.

If the presidential pollsgoes otherwise, what will the APC do?

The party has made its position very clear, if we have reasons to believe that the elections are free and fair, we will congratulate whoever wins, whether we win or PDP wins or somebody else wins. But like I said, if we have reasons to believe otherwise or like what they did in Ekiti and Osun States where 38,000 policemen, SSS and soldiers were drafted as if we are in war front, masked, with instructions to make sure PDP wins, in such case how do you expect us to react? Go to court? We will take decisions that will become absolutely necessary, to tell the world and ourselves that we can’t keep surrendering to slavery, whatever the interpretation you  give it is up to you,

What is your expectation, if the APC eventually wins the presidential polls?

The expectation is to govern this country, to deal with Boko Haram. We are in a very tragic situation, Nigeria Army has been everywhere; in Tanzania, Congo, Liberia, Sudan etc, on peace mission and they performed well. What is it that has turned the Nigerian military into Boys Scout movement running away from a rag tag Boko Haram, nothing but corruption? The morale of the troops is dead and they know it and we know it. That is the issue number one.

The second issue is the cutting down of corruption, as no country has totally eliminated corruption, but you know the address and the precedence of our presidential candidates on corruption.

With the power of incumbency and resources at President Goodluck Jonathan’s disposal, do you think Buhari can defeat the President?

This is for Nigerians to take. They already have their CVs and they know who can salvage the country from these mess. It is only a stranger in Jerusalem who cannot recognize who Buhari is. We don’t need to advertise him. Buhari is not likely to encourage corruption or see corruption and do nothing about it. He is not likely to allow the Boko Haram to continue ravaging the country because he had certain military experience. The man became an Army General and a Head of State. I think that says he has gotten some distance in life, those two are more than enough to tell Nigerians that this is the man for the job.

Of course, there are attempts to say he is a fanatic. Again, I can say this man they referred to as a fanatic or religious extremist has been to Hajj only once in the last 14 years, if they need to know more about him they can, so we are not about re-selling  or re-packaging, those who know him, know him.

We know a number of people who are scared of his emergence because he will throw everybody in prison, which is not true, there is more work to do than setting up prison and throwing people inside. If you keep jailing and taking people to prisons alone, when will you have the time to deal with power supply, to deal with health, education, infrastructures and grow the economy and reduce the high interest rate and solve the problems of poverty in the country. There are so many things to do, however. If the government of General Buhari decides that this corruption business has to be curtailed to the barest minimum, his body language alone will do far more than the EFCC and the ICPC put together.

You said power has been the bane of our economic development. Do you think with an APC government can stem the tide?

So much money has gone down the drain in the power sector; $16billion, $20 billion and nobody knows the figures and privitization is expected to help the system better managed but the reverse is the case, there are 15 private  groups, now the groups seems to be more powerful for government to control. They refused to give meters out to Nigerians rather they use estimates, they became consortium licensed to defraud the society and cannot be controlled by the government, whereas we are supposed to be given meters and we pay what it reads, but they refuse, knowing fully well that we have no choice, is that not taking us captive? Because if I don’t pay you will come and cut off my electricity, is that not part of the corruption we are talking about? Who got these licenses? That is the first thing.

Number two, what happened to coal in this country? There are 13 coal deposits in this country, one of the biggest coal deposit is in Kogi State, one in my state, Benue, also in Enugu and every other places across the country. In the world they are still using coal to generate power, but we insist on oil and gas, which there are inherent problems there in the upstream, downstream. People blowing up pipe lines here and there has become a major challenges. How do we want to industrialize and match the rest of the world and how do we hope to participate in these so called global game? How does Nigeria want to go on without being a victim of globalization and beneficiary? If electricity is not available, how? This is what the APC will address.

Asari Dokubo was reported to have threatened that, if President Jonathan does not win the 2015 election, Nigeria may not know peace. What’s your reaction to this?

Is President Jonathan elected as a regional president or Nigeria’s President? You see, already, his people are seeing him as a regional President instead of seeing him as Nigeria’s President. Why will anyone issue such a threat? This is quite unfortunate. I have heard comments and people saying helicopters have been bought and warships are coming in and we also hear that containers of weapons are coming too. Suddenly we don’t hear anything about them. We do hope that is not their intention and we hope that President Jonathan will recognize that he owes more to Nigerians than to allow his ethnic warlords to talk that way. The same way we are warning anybody else from any other parts, whether is in the APC who will say if we don’t win they will bring Nigeria down and I think is less than responsible talk.

Our education sector is in shambles. How will the APC rescue the sector?

You know sometimes we see all kinds of very dramatic reforms in this country, one of them is Structural Adjustment Programme. This reform was condemned by Jeffery Sachs who was Economic Adviser to Koffi Anaan, the former UN Secretary General and Paul Robin Krugman, the American who won Nobel Prize about eight years ago, both of them condemned SAP, that it was imposed on Africans by the Western world as the worst assault on Africa since the slave trade.

Again, one of the reforms that destroyed our education in Nigeria was the disruption of teacher’s training colleges in Nigeria, and APC is going back to it. We have to train teacher’s that will teach our children from nursery to secondary to university level. Unless and until we restructure and bring back that very basic foundation of training of teachers, if not any other thing we are doing is just like applying cosmetics. There are some private schools ?that are charging N1 million  per annum in Abuja and Lagos, and only the rich can afford to send their children there. If that was the situation in the past some of us wouldn’t have gone to school. So whoever that introduced the reforms that NCE is enough, whoever he was did a terrible and irreparable damage to Nigerian educational system.

Already, the APC states met in Kano and this was one of the issues we discussed. We have to return to the teachers training colleges, we will find brilliant young Nigerians, send them to those?  Teachers training colleges, train them properly to teach and pay them well. APC will start to reform the education from where it can be reformed, meaning the very foundation- the nursery schools- after that you don’t need to panic over what you have.

  • Nigeria’ll be a better place in four years, says Jonathan

Nigeria’ll be a better place in four years, says Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has said Nigera will become a better place in the next four to five ears.

He said that Nigeria was steadily making progress as a result of the policies of his administration.

The President spoke at the Christ Apostolic Church, Garki Area 1, Abuja, where he observed his last Sunday church service for the year.

Even as he expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome its challenges, he said that 2015, which is an election year, will be a tempting one.

The President later yesterday afternoon left Abuja for a private visit to the United Kingdom.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said the President was accompanied on the trip by some of his principal staff and personal aides.

Jonathan is expected back in Abuja today ahead of official engagements at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, including scheduled audiences with groups from Delta and Lagos states.

Speaking at the church service, Jonathan said: “As a nation, we have not reached where we want to go; definitely not. But we are coming up with a number of policies. Those who are taking pain to look at what we are doing will agree with us that if we progress as a nation steadily in this manner, in the next four or five years, this country will be a better place.

“Only a few days back, the Vice President was in Port Harcourt to flag off the Eastern railway. The Western one moving from Lagos to Kano has been running. We will start using the modern one from Kaduna to Abuja by the first quarter of next year and the one from Port Harcourt.

“When we were small, there were railways. But I believe most of our children of about 30 years only see railway as cartoons in the television but now, they are seeing it.

“We relied on agriculture before the oil boom or doom and all that died. We are reviving it and the whole world has appreciated that we are moving forward in agriculture.”

He went on: “When they start something, people do not see the benefits immediately. We know that as a nation, we have a lot of challenges in terms of getting jobs for our young graduates and we have set up a lot of programmes that can bring job opportunities for our young men. The result may not be obvious immediately but God willing, job opportunities will continue to increase and many more young people will be engaged.”

On falling oil prices, he said: “We have talked about the drop in global price of oil. Of course, if there is a drop in oil price, it will affect us in one way or the other. We tell our people to bear with us. It has happened before in 2008, 2009 that was almost about $40, we survived as a nation.”

The President reassured Nigerians that the falling oil prices will not go as low as $40 and that Nigeria will survive it.

According to him, his economic team is already working very hard to stabilise it.

He said: “Although there may be temporary inconveniences, it will definitely not bring the economy down.”

Stressing that 2015 is a tempting year, Jonathan said: “Elections year in Third World countries is always a turbulent year with all kinds of predictions. I, however, believe that the God who brought us to this level will see us through.”

He urged the congregation to continue to pray for politicians from all political parties.

The President said: “Pray for God to guide us in our utterances and what we do so that we will not sacrifice the lives of Nigerians because of our ambitions. Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian.”

“Pray to God to give us that wisdom and mind to make sure we conduct ourselves in a way that will not set the country ablaze because of our own personal ambition.”

“There are so many good Nigerians that can hold the offices we are occupying or aspiring to occupy; it is by privilege of God that we are here in positions to ask for the mandates of Nigerians.”

He went on: “None of us should begin to think that he is the best person to be anywhere from state houses of assembly to the president. There are a thousand and one Nigerians that are super qualified more than those people who are even aspiring to occupy offices.

“If the idea is to help the people, grow the economy and make the people happy, you won’t want to kill, you won’t want to maim or burn down houses, vehicles and property. Human beings may see things differently but God can guide us.”

He noted that instead of the challenges abating, the problems started increasing for one reason or the other.

“But I am convinced that it would have been worse than this but for your prayers. With the prayers you continue to offer to God, God will see us through, he said, adding:

“I always say that whenever I read the Bible, especially the Old Testament, particularly the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land, the kind of challenges they faced; the confrontation, the wars up to the days of King David, people were always fighting and you will ask why children of God will continue to be fighting.”

“I believe what is even happening to us is not even as serious as sometimes the passages we read in the Bible and God was able to see them through.”

“The God we believe will see us through. What I will request from you is to continue to pray for us. For me and members of my team, in spite of the challenges, we will continue to do our best.” he stated

“We need to support the president because I believe he needs support now more than ever. Let’s forget the notion that he ought to be impeached, we don’t impeach president in the middle of civil war. I reject the call for the removal of security chiefs as some have suggested; we should completely reject the assertion that President Jonathan is a modern day Nebuchadnezzar, I think it is most in appropriate and unwise for people to try to undermine the leadership,” he said.

  • Aspirant promises better life for constituency

A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bolaji Ajimotokan, has said Agege Constituency 1 needs a good lawmaker, who understands the challenges of the area.

He said he is vying for the House Assembly seat because the community has not made significant progress under those who had represented the constituency. He said, having lived among the people for from childhood, he noted nobody understands the terrain better than him.

He said: ‘’I lived here, but over time, I travelled overseas for my education, I had thought that, by the time I come back, my community would have the grown. But, I can say that nothing has changed after 19 years of my sojourn in the foreign land. I want to be part of the change that can improve the lots of my people.’’

The aspirant said he initiated some philanthropic project, to make impact in the community. ‘’The young Agege boys have benefitted from my quarterly organised football competition. Some of them have secured better offer through the exposure and the skills they displayed during the competitions.

He added that his aim is to change the community by bridging the gap between the leaders and the led through quarterly town hall meetings.

“Again, my vision is to alleviate the suffering of our people through communication, education and infrastructural development, this I strongly believe can come from effective lawmaking process that will recognise that Agege is part of the large community in the Centre of Excellence.

‘’In terms of education, I hope to improve the lot of the primary schools in this locality. We can do this laying the solid foundation. This is possible through the act of parliament , I strongly believe we can do it and that must be done now.

‘’Through infrastructural development, the value of the houses will increase so as to attract into the community those in the high brow areas,” he said.

  • Waziri: Yobe ‘ll be better under my leadership

Waziri: Yobe ‘ll be better under my leadership

Adamu Maina Waziri is a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP in Yobe State. He has served as the Minister of Police Affairs and Agriculture.  In 1999, 2003 and 2007, he was the governorship candidate. He was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. Now, he has declared his intention to run for the position in next year’s election.  When JOEL DUKU met him in Damaturu, the state capital, he spoke on his past electoral defeats and preparations for another contest.

Why are you contesting for the governorship again, despite your failed bid four times?

I have obtained my nomination form. I am doing it in exercising my inalienable right to seek elective office under our great party, the PDP, and also under the constitution of this country. I am doing it because I have passion for my people and my state. I am a product of public expenditure. I was brought up, educated, exposed to public office and also the treasury. And I feel I have got so much in terms of experience, borne out of my education and my public office, to give to my state so that there will be value addition to the lives of our people.

I was the state co-ordinator for the creation of this state in 1991 before it was carved out of Borno. We were fighting for development.

Unfortunately, we have not realised this dream. The reason why the dream has not been realised is that, from the time the state was created, it has not live up to expectation. With all respect to all those people that led this state at the highest level, the expectation is still unfulfilled. Furthermore, I have come across a number of aspirants to the office. With all respect to them, I am convinced that, based on our public records, I can do better than all of them. That is why I want to give this thing another shot. I ask  this simple question, ‘Why can’t you give up’? But, they said, if all good people refuse to participate, you are going to get the worse.

But, PDP has never won governorship election in Yobe…

The truth of the matter is that I have been into this thing for some time. I have built supporters and structures in this state. I am proud  as politician that has gone to the nooks and crannies of this state more than any other politician in Yobe State in the quest for leadership. I can contest under any party on my own identity, but I have a moral obligation. I was the one who carried the flag of the PDP in 1998 from the old parade ground in Abuja. We were six. I was one of them. I was the one who carried the flag and the mandate to come to Yobe State and set up the structure of the PDP. It would be absolutely irresponsible to desert the party. I will remain in the party. My dreams may never be fulfilled, but I have an obligation to continue the journey. And that is where I am.

You have described the government of Ibrahim Gaidam as a bad Government. Why did you say so?

Yes. I was asked this question before and I said there are two issues involved. One, there is Ibrahim Gaidam, a nice gentleman, whom we respect, who has contributed his quota like his predecessors to the development of Yobe. But, there is also the government involving him and so many people, but he has to take full responsibility, both for his actions and the actions of his subordinates. So, I hold him partly responsible for what is happening in the state. I feel that there are quite a number of things that are bedevilling this state that a focused , courageous, experienced, well educated leadership could do better and I feel I can do better if given the mandate.

What do you mean by Human Development Indices (HDI) and do you think you still have those structures to pursue your ambition?

Human Development Indices (HDI) is looking at the standard of education and other performances. If you look at the average pass mark of Yobe students, are they much more qualified to be admitted into tertiary institutions? What is the infant mortality? What is the mortality of our mothers? How many people have access to portable drinking water? How many have access to self-sustainable employment?

If you become the governor, how are you going to address  these lapses?

Now, let me give you part of my albatross. Nine out of 10 people in Yobe State still believe I can do the job. Seven out of 10 people are afraid of me. So, I have no problem because  I will not allow what they are used to to continue. But, that will not make me change my mind because I will not be deceiving them. I want to maintain an identity. It  is left for them to choose. But, the ttruth of the matter is that, if I become the governor, I will be sworn with the Holy Book to discharge my duties,  based on my abilities. And I want to take that very serious, and I will do it. So, I assure you that by reputation, based on my antecedents, the moment I was sworn in, there are certain attitudes that will die that moment in Yobe State public service.

How prepared are you for primaries?

The fact that there are two or three or five people contesting for the same position is democracy. Is not anti-democracy. It is democracy. Guide the people, tell them this is democracy. There should be an election. If we don’t have election within our party, we will still have election between political parties. So why don’t we get use to a democratic principles to resolve issues rather than otherwise. So in PDP like in all parties, there are two route in choosing candidate. One, there is what we call consensus, this is where few people decides on behalf of the majority. That is one route. The second route is also what we called the democratic route, alright; where the majority decides from the minority which is during primaries or secondary elections. These two options have been used by both PDP and other parties to arrives at political conclusions. Ok; is not an issue of do-or-die.

I’ll leave Ekiti better, says Fayose

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has assured residents of his commitment to “greater Ekiti” during his tenure.

The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, yesterday, said the administration would work not only to meet but surpass the people’s expectations.

He urged the people to promptly pay their taxes, levies and rates, adding that government would also respond to such gesture responsibly.

Adelusi’s words: “We know the expectations are high and we are in a tough period as far as the economy is concerned. We are taking note of all the advice given us by people and groups.

“For instance, we appreciate the Ekiti Council of Elders on the advice that we embark on projects that have quick and direct bearing on the welfare of the people.

“We will not shy away from the provision of physical infrastructure, just as we will create the atmosphere for people to earn decent living and be able to take care of their emotional needs.

“From what is happening in the international oil market and the subsequent drop in federal allocations, it is obvious that we have to look more inwards in generating revenue and we appeal to those in charge to support us in blocking leakages and raising the bar.

“Those in the House of Assembly and our judicial officers must know that we are all Ekiti people and we must work together to make our state great. Nobody should allow for distractions. No matter our political persuasions, the interest of Ekiti comes first.”
