  • Boroffice calls for synergy among security agencies

Deputy Senate Leader Ajayi Boroffice has called for  synergy among security agencies in their bid to combat crime.

The senator spoke with reporters, shortly after visiting the Akure residence of Pa Reuben Fasoranti to commiserate with the nonagenarian over the killing of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunrin, by gunmen.

He condemned the gruesome killing and expressed optimism that security agencies will fish out the killers within the shortest possible time.

Borrofice said: “The growing spate of insecurity in the South West region and other parts of Nigeria is quite worrisome. However, the senator is aware security agencies are working hard to curb the unfortunate trend. It is also understandable that security agencies cannot announce all efforts to the public for security reasons.

“Furthermore, all security agencies are urged to harmoniously work together towards finding sustainable solutions to insecurity issues in the South West and other parts of the Country.

“On behalf of the Senate, I wish to identify with Pa Reuben Fasoranti and commiserate with the entire Fasoranti family over the murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin. May God grant the family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.”

  • Row over withdrawal of petition against Boroffice at election tribunal

The lawmaker representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof Ajayi Boroffice, has said that the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was not involved in the final withdrawal of the case at the Ondo State Election Tribunal as being reported in the media.

It would be recalled that the petition filed before the tribunal on behalf of Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN) against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over absence of its logo on the ballot papers used for Ondo North senatorial election had been withdrawn by the party.

A statement through his press secretary, Kayode Fakuyi, described the claim as false, stressing that MPN did not sponsor any candidate for Ondo North senatorial election conducted on February 23.

It said: “this fact is contained in Form CFO 002 C (II) that was signed by both the National Chairman and National Secretary of MPN. The form CF 002 C (II) was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the 18th of October, 2018.

“This fact also explains the absence of MPN’s logo on the ballot papers used for Ondo North senatorial election.

“Secondly, MPN did not actually file petition against INEC and Senator  Boroffice. It was the senatorial candidate of Action Alliance (AA) for Ondo North, Tunji Abayomi, who sponsored the case on behalf of MPN without the authorisation of the national leadership of MPN.

“Instructively, Abayomi of the AA could not have sponsored the case without the support of his political leader, Governor Akeredolu.

“From the above-stated facts, it is clear Akeredolu did not play any such role like role of arbiter in the resolution of the MPN to discontinue a case that was initiated and instituted on its behalf without its authorisation.

“Furthermore, if the media wishes to attribute role to Akeredolu on the matter, such role should be confined to the sponsorship of the case.”

The statement encouraged the media to always maintain its cherished tradition of credible broadcasting and reportage of issues of public importance.

  • Boroffice to Nigerians: don’t allow destroyers to return to power

The senator representing Ondo North, Prof Ajayi Boroffice, has warned Nigerians not be distracted by the antics of those who destroyed the economy and are still seeking to return to power.

He stressed that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.

Speaking at the inauguration of various support groups under the Presidential Support Committee (PSC) for the Buhari/Osinbajo re-election bid, Boroffice urged Nigerians to queue behind President Muhammadu Buhari to continue the building of a nation that all Nigerians would be proud of.

The senator said Nigerians are united by the desire to have good governance, ensure justice and equity as well as fight pervasive corruption in the land.

He noted that these can only be achieved through President Buhari.

Boroffice said Nigerians would be doing themselves a lot of good, if they continued to support the President for his second term bid, adding that the time had come to consolidate on the gains the present administration had recorded.

He said: “We will line up behind President Buhari and we are united behind this cause. We will succeed, by the grace of God.”

The Special Adviser (SA) to the President on Disability Matters Dr. Samuel Ankeli said people with disability would work for the success of the President in next year’s general elections.

He said: “You see him as a man of integrity, but for those of us in the disability world, we see him as our eyes, our ears and our legs.

“He has given us a voice where others relegate us. Today, we can sit down with others and discuss. In the past, people saw us as lepers. But that has changed. A man who sits with you to decide on your future has done a great thing for you. So, we celebrate him and we are ready to go anywhere with him.

“Where others failed, we won. At the international level, we have won several laurels for this country. President Buhari has empowered us, and we our loyalty goes to him.”

Also, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Political Matters Gideon Zamani said President Buhari came to fight corruption and injustice in the country and had done so credibly well.

He urged the support groups and the zonal committees of the PSC to take the campaign for the President’s re-election to states, local governments, wards and unit levels for massive sensitisation of the electorate on the gains of the Buhari administration.

PSC’s National Publicity Secretary Ebunola Martins said it would be an error of judgment for Nigerians to allow those who destroyed the economy to return to power.

  • Boroffice condemns invasion of Ondo Assembly

The senator representing Ondo North, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has condemned the violent invasion of the Ondo State House of Assembly by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) last Friday.

The union members attacked lawmakers, workers and reporters on the Assembly complex.

The senator described the invasion as an ugly political decadence that should be condemned.

A statement by his Press Secretary, Kayode Fakuyi, said: “In Ondo State, there is an evolving trend of violent interference and fierce intervention of NURTW members in political affairs and state matters. Thus, security agencies need to swiftly check and curb the trend.

“Aftermath of the invasion, an atmosphere of fear and insecurity has been ignited. It is, therefore, incumbent on security agencies to immediately restore an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity for legislative activities to thrive and flourish.”

Boroffice urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure tight security to protect the lives of members of the House of Assembly.

  • Primaries: Count me out of any backdoor arrangement – Boroffice

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Prof Ajayi Boroffice on Wednesday reacted to an allegation raised by the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Ade Adetimehin that he was involved in backdoor arrangement to secure the ticket of the party to represent Ondo North District for next year’s election.

Through a statement by his press secretary, Kayode Fakuyi, the lawmaker said he was aware of a statement by a faction of APC in the state, through which the faction hurled abuses and made litany of spurious and baseless allegations against him.

According to the statement”It is a matter of public records, that Senator Boroffice has participated and won competitive elections in the past.

“As it was done in the past, on Tuesday, Senator Ajayi Boroffice rolled out his political machinery across the 72 wards in Ondo North senatorial district for a competitive primary election. We were at designated voting centres when the National leadership of APC published results of the screening exercise.

“As regards the screening exercise, we are aware the party considered many parameters, including qualification, competence, experience and loyalty to the ideology of the APC.

“Therefore, Boroffice should be counted out of any backdoor arrangement. As a matter of fact, the allegation of backdoor arrangement is an imaginative and imagined fabrication. There is no such thing like backdoor arrangement”.

It noted that APC released results of screening exercise for the three senatorial districts in Ondo state, but Adetimehin’s faction chose to single out Boroffice for media attacks.

The statement however assured party leaders and stakeholders that the Asiwaju of Akoko would mobilise party members and electorates in the 72 wards of Ondo North senatorial district and beyond for the victory of the APC at all levels in the 2019 general elections.

  • Boroffice to IGP: probe assassination attempt on my life

Last Saturday’s assassination attempt on the life of the senator representing Ondo North, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, in Owo, has continued to generate ripples among the All Progressives Congress (APC) fold across the state.

In a statement by its spokesman, the ruling party said Boroffice’s attackers were not APC members.

Also, Segun Ajiboye, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said Boroffice was repeating the alleged lies his team had been peddling for some time.

In a statement, Ajiboye said: “It is surprising that the lawmaker has run to the press, even after he claimed that the police were investigating the matter.

“At this stage, as law-abiding people, we would rather allow the police do their job.”

But a statement by the senator’s media unit insisted that some aides of Governor Akeredolu have a case to answer with the Inspector General of Police (IGP’s) crack team over the assassination attempt.

The statement reads: “Following the failed and foiled assassination attempt on the life of Senator Boroffice on Saturday in Owo, the media unit of the senator is concerned that while the Ade Adetimehin-led faction of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has not deemed it right to condemn the attack, the faction has issued two contradictory statements on the incident within 24 hours.

“In one breath, the faction, through its spokesman, Kalejaye, confirmed that some aggrieved members of the party in Owo invaded the venue of the campaign. In another statement, the faction, through same spokesman, said the assailants are not party members. The faction should stop undermining the image of APC with its seeming confusion.

“Also, it is our considered view that the statements credited to the Commissioner for Information in Ondo State and the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor on the matter are watery innuendos. They neither cleared nor dissociated their boss.”

Boroffice’s spokesman Kayode Fakuyi said the insinuation raised by Adetimehin-led faction that the attack on Senator Boroffice was stage-managed by the supporters of the senator was unfortunate.

The spokesman said the senator’s supporters have never stage-managed such incident, adding that they have no tendency to do so.

He said: “They have no reason whatsoever to stage-manage such incident. The supporters of the senator could not have stage-managed an attack that was coordinated by appointees of the governor.

  • Boroffice alleges attempted assassination

The senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof Ajayi Boroffice, yesterday escaped assassination in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The Special Assistant to the senator, Kayode Fakuyi, confirmed the attack, alleging that the suspected assailants were political thugs.

He said: “In continuation of political campaign across the 72 wards of Ondo North senatorial district, Senator Ajayi Boroffice visited Owo on Saturday.

“The venue of the campaign, Raheem’s Hall, was attacked by armed thugs. The assailants freely unleashed ranging degrees and forms of violence on the people who gathered at the venue.

“Evidently, it was a clear assassination attempt. The senator escaped the assassination attempt by providence.

However the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Segun Ajiboye, described the allegation as wicked, wondering how people should frame such blatant lie because of politics.

He cautioned Boroffice’s group against raising unnecessary tension in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Ajiboye asked the group to mention those behind the assassination attempt “if such frivolous allegation was true.”

But the state police command denied knowledge of the incident.

It said the matter was not reported in any police station in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state command, Femi Joseph said the police were not aware of the incident, going by the records with all the Police posts in the state.

He warned politicians against violence in the state, urging them to play the games according to the rule ahead of the 2019 polls.

  • Boroffice: no plot can stop my re-election bid

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Prof Ajayi Boroffice, has said the verbal attacks between two factions of the party on the screening of aspirants and other related issues are illogical.

The senator representing Ondo North has undergone screening for the forthcoming primary on the platform of the ruling party.

A statement by his Press Secretary, Kayode Fakuyi, said Boroffice had obtained a clearance certificate to participate in the senatorial direct primary in October in Akure, the state capital.

The statement said: “In line with the approval of direct primaries for Ondo State by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, Senator Boroffice is upbeat and ready for the election. Indeed, no plot can stop the re-election bid of Senator Ajayi Boroffice.”

But through its Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, the ruling party said only those who brought their forms through the proper channel would participate in the screening.

It noted all bona fide members of the party were on the same page with its leadership on the forthcoming primary.

The party said: “Every aspirant who has bought forms from the right place will participate in the screening.

“It is the right of every member to go through the whole process; the aspirants who are authentically cleared would definitely be eligible to contest the primary in the state under the platform of the APC.”

There was a frosty relationship between Boroffice and Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on the fall-out of 2016 election, which Akeredolu won.

  • Ondo youths rally support for Buhari, Boroffice

Scores of youths, under the aegis of Concerned Ondo North Youths (CONY), met on Monday in Akure, the state capital, to back President Muhammadu Buhari and the senator representing Ondo North, Prof Ajayi Boroffice.

They passed a vote of confidence in the two All Progressives Party (APC) stalwarts seeking another term in office.

The group, led by Olusuyi Ajayi, eulogised President Buhari and Senator Boroffice.

They noted that the President had lifted the country in the last three years, while Boroffice, with his achievements, should be allowed to consolidate his “enviable work”.

The youths said their resolve to support Boroffice for a third term was based on his performance and his support for the Buhari administration.

The group expressed their support after a roadshow in Akure attended by market women, civil servants and students.

Ajayi promised to replicate the meeting in each of the six local government areas in Ondo North before the APC senatorial primary.

CONY members said Boroffice’s proactive representation resulted in the construction of Emergency Obstetrics Hospital,  skilla acquisition centres, bio-fuel ethanol plant,  provision of potable water in the six local government areas, interest-free loans and his assistance in securing Federal appointments for graduates, among others.

The group hailed the Buhari administration for its anti-graft crusade, adding that the country would have collapsed if the President had lost the 2015 election.

It urged the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to repair the Owo-Ikare, Akungba-Isua and Ipele-Kabba roads, which they said have become almost impassable.

At the meeting, a motion for endorsement of President Buhari and Boroffice was moved by a youth leader, Olakoyenikan Williams, and supported by Alhaja Modupe Akadiri, with over 1,000 youths present.

  • Boroffice applauds adoption of direct primary by APC

Sen. Ajayi Boroffice, representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, has applauded the adoption of direct primaries by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in choosing its candidates for the 2019 elections.

Boroffice gave the commendation in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Kayode Fakuyi on Friday in Akure.

“As the preparations for primary elections are close, it is necessary to reassure members of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State that the national leadership of our party ably led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has adopted direct primary as the only means of electing party candidates in Ondo State.

“The position of APC on direct primary is clear. It states that direct primary will hold in APC – governed states while indirect primary/delegate primary will hold in states where the state governments are not governed by APC.

“It should also be noted that President Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other prominent leaders of our party have thrown their weights behind the party on the adoption of direct primary.

” Therefore, the adoption of direct primary is a settled matter. It is unambiguous. It is not controversial. It is clear,” the statement quoted the senator as saying.
According to him, the adoption of direct primaries will deepen democracy and ensure popular participation in the APC.

Boroffice said that the national leadership of the party had empowered all party members in Ondo State with voting powers for the purpose of nominating flag bearers of the APC in the 2019 general elections.

The senator, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, said no individual or group could hijack such voting powers from the party members.

He said that the adoption of direct primaries has the  support of prominent leaders of the party (NAN)
