    Bosso blames inexperience for defeat

Abia Warriors head coach, Ladan Bosso, believes the lack of experience of his players was responsible for the 3-0 defeat against Dolphins in their Glo Premier League tie at the Liberation Stadium on Wednesday.

Bosso blamed his players for not playing to instructions and lacking confidence, having just gained promotion to the top flight.

“It was a good game, but my players ignored our tactics. They didn’t play to our instructions,” he told Supersport.com.

“All the goals we conceded were avoidable. We must go back to the drawing board and make corrections.

“We are just coming up. They have to improve their level of confidence on the ball and how they support their teammates.

“We just have to be patient with them till they get it right.

“You will see the best of Abia Warriors in the second round of the league.”

Ebube Okpokwu and Jonathan Zikiye scored in the 21st and 45th minutes respectively, leaving Abia Warriors with a mountain to climb in the second half.

The visitors raised their game in the second period, but Dolphins seemed to have things under control and deservedly added a third on 89 minutes, when Emem Eduok’s cross was deflected into his own net by Austin Obaroakpo.

Dolphins manager Stanley Eguma said his team played one of their best games of the season.

“It is nice to win well again as we have found it difficult at home recently,” he told Supersport.com.

“It was much easier today (Wednesday) as we were able to score three goals. Abia Warriors gave us a good fight, particularly in the second half.

“I commend my players for being able to find their rhythm after some very difficult matches.”

He added: “The season has just started and the team is still work in progress.

“The fact that we could score three today means there’s an improvement. I hope the players will sustain the momentum or even do better in subsequent outings.”

Bosso targets GOtv WAFU goal king

Supersport.com can reveal that Bayelsa United gaffer, Ladan Bosso, has made an ambitious move to boost the attack of his team with Togolese striker, Saibou Badarou, who scored four goals to emerge goal king at the 2013 GOtv WAFU Cup, in Ghana.

The former Under-20 national team manager is building his team ahead of domestic and continental assignments in 2014.

“Negotiations have reached an advanced stage. Badarou is already heading for Yenogoa and is excited with the chance to play for a big team like Bayelsa United.

“I monitored Badarou’s performance during the recently concluded GOtv WAFU Cup and confirmed my findings. It’s a good move for us and he’s a good striker,” Bosso told supersport.com.

Badarou, who plays for Lome-based Customs side, L’Association Sportive des Dounes (fondly called AS Dounes), comes with great credentials after scoring 14 goals to emerge goal king in the just-concluded Togolese Championnat National. Dounes narrowly lost the title by two points and finished second behind Angers FC.

Badarou becomes the second foreign international at Bayelsa after club captain, Salomon Junior, who also represented Benin Republic at the competition.

    Bosso rips referees

Bayelsa United coach, Ladan Bosso has said his side ably deserved to win the title of the just-concluded Glo Premier League season.

The Yenagoa-based side missed the title by whiskers no thanks to the 0-1 loss to Gombe United in the last day tie at the Pantami Stadium as they eventually finished third on 61 points, two points behind champions, Kano Pillars.

Bosso said the match officials made it practically impossible for his side to grab the three points against Gombe United that would have helped his wards to win the league crown.

“We deserved the trophy but for the referee’s biased officiating which saw our two clean goals and penalty denied in the game against Gombe United. If we had got at least 40/60 officiating we would have beaten Gombe United hands down and gone ahead to win the league title.

“The referee killed our dream for the title and the fact that people have called for an outright ban of the referee strengthens our stand that we were robbed in the game. Kano Pillars are a good side but it appeared the title had been decided prior to the last games as we were assigned match officials from Kaduna and Kano states. Such appointments create room for strong suspicion and rubbish the image of the league,” said the former Wikki Tourists coach to supersport.com.

Bosso said his side had accepted the challenge to offer Nigerians credible representation at the continent.

“The target of every coach is to win the league or pick a continental ticket, we’re happy with the CAF Confederation Cup ticket. Bayelsa United have been on the continent previously but for any demotion or promotion there is a challenge attached to it, the Confederation Cup ticket is a challenge entrusted to our hands and we won’t disappoint Nigerians.

“I’m working on contacts to get players to strengthen the side ahead of next season’s campaign both for the domestic league and continental assignment,” said the former Kano Pillars coach.

Bayelsa United can be champions again, boasts Bosso

Bayelsa United will be Nigeria champions again coach Ladan Bosso has boasted after the Yenegoa club again rose to the summit of the league.

On Sunday, Bayelsa pipped rival title chasers Enyimba 1-0 to open a point lead at the top of the standings. They have 55 points from 33 points, while El Kanemi are in second place on 54 points, same as third-placed Kano Pillars.

Coach Bosso told MTNFootball.com: “We are on track to winning the title. I have a team that can deliver on the title. We worked very hard to beat Enyimba, all we need now is to win all our remaining home games and work very hard to get at least one away victory from our remaining games and we are there.”

Bayelsa won the league in 2009, but were sensationally relegated the following season. They have marked their return to the big time this season with a dominant performance at home, where they have won 16 of their matches, won one game away and drew three others.

The away win was recorded at Lobi Stars, where they triumphed 4-3. They play away to Nembe City in a local derby on Wednesday. They then host Warri Wolves, before they travel away to Kaduna United.

Their last two matches will be at home to Kwara United and then away to Gombe United.

    Bayelsa’s foreign trio excites Bosso

Bayelsa United gaffer,Ladan Bosso, has expressed satisfaction with the contributions of the foreign trio of Guindo Abdoulaye (Mali), Salomon Junior (Republic of Benin) and Eric Frimpong (Ghana) to the club’s campaign this term.

The duo of Abdoulaye and Junior have since put their names in the club’s score chart. Abdoulaye, a former player of Warri Wolves, Kwara United and Dolphins, has scored two goals, while Salomon Junior, who is in his first season in Nigeria, has scored once.

“The trio has done well so far. In fact, Junior has justified his new role as captain of the team and Abdoulaye is brilliant. Frimpong is not new to the Nigerian league after stints at Niger Tornadoes and Enyimba. I’ve known him before he joined his first Nigerian club,” Bosso told SuperSport.com.

The fourth foreigner at the club is Nigerian-born Benin Republic goalkeeper, Emmanuel Fabiyi. It’s the first time the former Nigerian champions will have as much as four foreigners in its squad for a season.

     FANS’ ALLEGED ATTACK

The management of Sunshine Stars of Akure has called on the League Management Company (LMC) to be cautious of clubs’ pranks as the Globacom Premier League near its end.

The club’s fans were alleged to have attacked Kano Pillars fans during their week 26 League match at the Akure Township Stadium, a claim which has since been denied by Sunshine.

Interestingly, Bayelsa United’s Technical Adviser, Isa Ladan Bosso heaped praises on Akure fans for their support to his team during their goalless draw against Sunshine Stars in a week 28 league game at Akure.

John Abalaka, the Special Assistant on Media to the Director of the Ondo State football Agency, Mike Idoko said Bosso’s comments buttressed the claims that Akure fans were not troublesome.

“We were vindicated by what coach Bosso said of our supporters. We have said it before and we are still repeating it that Akure is the best place to play football. We’ve played three draws at home this season without any record of violence.

“Our fans love good football and they are not troublesome. Again, we want the LMC to be vigilant of clubs’ antics. The league is coming to an end and clubs will be looking for ways to distracts opponents will lots of pranks. The league must be properly monitored.”

Bosso warns players: Don’t over celebrate

Bayelsa United Technical Adviser, Isa Ladan Bosso has cautioned his wards on the danger of losing concentration following their hard earned goalless draw against Sunshine Stars in a week 28 Globacom Premier League match at Akure Township Stadium on Thursday.

The draw against Akure Gunners on Thursday moved the Restoration Boys to the apex of the League with 46 points.

The former Flying Eagles manager told SportingLife that only hard work and determination can help them to achieve their set target.

“My players must not over celebrate the draw against Sunshine Stars because the journey is still far. It is only hard work, determination and total concentration that can lead us to our deserved destiny,” Bosso told SportingLife.

“I think we are now in the best position to get something for our sponsor (state government) to show appreciation for their moral and financial support. We thank the management and our fans for believing in us.”

Speaking on the match against Sunshine, the former Kano Pillars coach said: “Our tactics worked for us. I sympathised with Sunshine Stars because we met them at home at a time when my boys were in their best form. I just hope and pray that they maintain that form.

“I thank Akure fans for their support on Thursday. Akure is my second home and I hardly lose a match in Akure, even when Wikki Tourists was banished from Bauchi in 2006 I chose Akure for our home matches’ venue and I enjoyed all the support from Akure fans.

“We are at the top now and we want to concentrate on that,”he said.

  • Bosso takes charge of The Predictor’s XI

Bosso takes charge of The Predictor’s XI

This week Bayelsa United head coach, Ladan Bosso, has been given the task of handling my Matchday 21 Team of The Week.

Bosso is the first coach to lead a team that would inflict a first defeat on Lobi Stars at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium in Katsina-Ala. He gets the nod as my coach of the week on the back of Bayelsa United defeating Lobi Stars 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.

The win in Katsina-Ala was down to Bosso’s brave attacking approach to play with two strikers in Jafar Buhari and Uche Ihuarulam and set up his team to press high up against Lobi Stars.

I have also picked Buhari as my lone striker in a 4-5-1 formation for my Team of the Week. The former Kaduna United forward was a nuisance to the Lobi Stars backline and deservedly scored twice in Bayelsa United’s 4-3 win.

Danladi Isah is my goalkeeper for this week for keeping Warri Wolves from going on a goal spree against his team, Sharks.

Freedom Omofomah and Kola Anubi had their scoring chances smothered by Isah before Kelvin Itoja nodded in the winner.

Isah will get cover from my back four of Samuel Tswanya, Francis Edem, Markson Ojobo and Jonathan Zikiye.

Nembe City’s Dafe Omonigho will play in front of my defence for providing a shield for his team’s inexperienced centre-halves of Jonny Austin and Ogene Elija against Heartland.

My central midfielders are Rasheed Olabiyi, Bobby Sokari and Moses Orkuma while Olewezi Johnson will play in an advanced midfield role just behind my one-man striker, Buhari.

    The Predictor’s XI – Matchday 21

Danladi Isah (Sharks) – Samuel Tswanya (Kano Pillars), Francis Edem (3SC), Markson Ojobo (Enyimba), Jonathan Zikiye (Nembe City) – Dafe Omonigho (Nembe City), Rasheed Olabiyi (Enyimba), Bobby Sokari (Enyimba), Moses Orkuma (Lobi Stars), Olewezi Johnson (Dolphins) – Jafar Buhari (Bayelsa United)

    Bosso tops Sunshine’s shopping list

Bayelsa United coach Ladan Bosso is top of the shopping list of Sunshine Stars after they fired Samuel Abimbola this week.

The other coaches on the Sunshine radar are Samson Unuanel of Kwara United and Fatai Amoo, who has previously handled the Akure club and he is soon to be hired as coach of the Nigeria U23 team.

“Bosso is the top target by Sunshine to replace Abimbola now. Other coaches they are considering are Unuanel, who is doing a great job at Kwara United this season, and Amoo, who has handled the team previously but the issue with him is that he may soon begin his job as coach of the national U-23 team,” a top source informed MTNFootball.com.

Bosso was top favourite to land the Sunshine job before the start of the season before the sensational engagement of Abimbola.

Former Nigeria U-20 assistant coach Abimbola was shown the exit door after what Sunshine said were a spate of poor results as well as the fact that he did not get along with his backroom staff.

Assistant coach Napoleon Aluma has been handed temporary charge of the team, who are currently 12th on the 20-team Nigeria league table.

  • We want to maintain 100% home record – Bosso

We want to maintain 100% home record – Bosso

Bayelsa United Technical  Adviser, Ladan Bosso has expressed confidence that his side will maintain its hundred percent home records when they host City rivals, Nembe City in a week 14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Wednesday.

Bayelsa United and Kano Pillars are the two teams that are yet to drop points at home in the ongoing season.

The former Bendel Insurance handler told SportingLife that the club will approach the game with respect.

“We want to maintain our home record. I don’t think Nembe City can stop us from keeping our 100% home record. Although, we are not going to underrate them but we are going to approach the game with respect,” Bosso told SportingLife.

“In as much as we respect them we won’t allow them to spoil our fun. We want to win and get our three points in the game. It has been a good season for us and we want to continue till the end of the season.”
