I have nothing to prove in England – Ideye

Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, has insisted he has nothing to prove when he returns to England with Greek club Olympiacos for a UEFA Champions League clash at Arsenal on Tuesday.

“I do not feel I have anything to prove to people in England when I return to play against Arsenal, and I just want to repay the faith shown in me by Olympiacos by scoring the goals to help the club achieve success this season,” africanFootball.com quoted as saying on Monday.

“’I am really looking forward to the game against Arsenal at the Emirates and returning to England.

“I never played against Arsenal when I was at West Bromwich Albion and it will be a great test to come up against such a strong team as Arsenal.

“There is a lot at stake as both teams lost their opening games in the group and we are hoping we can get a positive result in London.”

Ideye promises more goals for WBA

Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, has declared that his best is yet to come at West Bromwich Albion after he overcame a slump to score two goals in as many matches.

Ideye also revealed he was not interested in a move to Qatar even when a bumper offer was turned in by Al Gharafa, africanFootball.com reports.

“Now I am delighted with how things are turning out and happy about everything on the pitch.

“Two goals in two games is a dream come true for me. Every striker wants to score goals.

“I know that I have not started at this club the way I wanted to, but the best is still to come.

“The West Bromwich Albion fans have been really supportive for me and all season they have been behind the club and behind me. I love them and will keep on doing my best for them.

“Confidence comes with scoring and I’m at that point now that each goal lifts my confidence and scoring goals for me in every game is a good thing as a striker,” he told africanFootball.com.

He continued: “This time is really different because I have more time and more of a role to play.

“The way the manager wants me to play suits my game because holding the ball is what I am good at, and right now I am just in the right place.

“The manager likes his strikers to work hard and I am willing to do that. I believe I can work a good partnership with Saido Berahino and I enjoy playing with him.”

The former Dynamo Kiev striker also said he would not have gone to Qatar even on loan.

“When I heard about the proposed move I was surprised. But I would never have left a club like West Brom to go to a club in Qatar, even for a loan. It is simply not possible,” he maintained.

  • Pulis hails Ideye

    Pulis hails Ideye

After helping his club secure a much needed point against  Burnley over the weekend in the English Premier League, Nigeria striker, Brown Ideye has received some plaudits from his manager, Tony Pulis for his efforts.

The 26-year old has had a less than impressive start to life at the Hawthorns, scoring just two goals in eighteen appearances for the Baggies before last weekend’s game at Turf Moore.

But he came off the bench to help West Bromwich Albion secure a point from two goals down against fellow strugglers, Burnley, which has earned him high praise from Pulis.

“We’re hoping Browny (Ideye) can keep scoring. We have Saido, Brownie and Victor – they’re our strikers, so we hope they can help us.”

Ideye arrived the Hawthorns from Ukrainian side, Dynamo Kiev for a club record £10m but has struggled to justify the huge investment.

But Pulis has defended the striker, saying there will always be pressure when a player is signed for big bucks.

“Brownie hasn’t played badly. He’s just missed opportunities. And with goal scorers – especially when you pay that much money – you expect to score. So hopefully that will help his confidence because he’s a good lad,” Pulis was quoted on the club’s website.

    WBA rejects bid for Ideye

West Bromwich Albion has reportedly rejected a bid from Qatari club, Al Gharafa for Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye.

The 26-year-old Nigerian joined the Baggies last summer for a club record £10million from Ukrainian giants, Dynamo Kiev but has scored only two goals in 16 appearances so far this season.

According to the Daily Mail, the Qatari club had initially asked to take the former Sochaux of France forward on loan but WBA will only consider an outright sale and want to recoup most of its summer spending on the striker.

Ideye has suffered injuries and complete loss of form since his switch to the Hawthorns and it is no surprise that he is being earmarked to leave barely a season after his arrival, sl10.ng reports.

Another Premier League side, Sunderland was reported to be interested but it seems Gus Poyet has decided on other options and it is unlikely Ideye will remain at the Hawthorns beyond next summer.

    Hamburg wants Brown Ideye

German Bundesliga club, Hamburg, is interested in acquiring unsettled West Bromwich Albion record-signing, Brown Ideye, on loan.

Ideye has failed to impress at the English Premiership League club and WBA new manager, Tony Pulis, is willing to let the Nigeria striker leave in the January transfer window in order to make room for a forward that fits into his football philosophy, and may find a suitor in Hamburg, africanFootball.com reports.

The German outfit, according to Sky Sports News, is interested in taking Ideye, who was bought for club record 10 million pounds, on loan until the end of the season.

The former Dynamo Kiev striker has also been linked with a couple of EPL sides including Sunderland and Hull City.

  • WBA boss hopes for Ideye debut

WBA boss hopes for Ideye debut

West Bromwich Albion manager, Alan Irvine, has raised fresh hopes that Brown Ideye could be fit enough to make his Premier League debut at home to Sunderland next Saturday.

The club record signing only arrived at the club on Friday after a lengthy wait for a visa, and the Nigeria international forward missed Saturday’s 3-1 friendly loss to Porto, africanFootball.com reports.

“We’re trying to gauge where he is in terms of his fitness,” africanFootball.com quoted Irvine as saying on the “Baggies” website.

“The situation at the moment is that he trained on Saturday and he’ll train again today (Sunday). We’ll talk on Monday regarding where we think he is.

“If he’s ready to play some part against Sunderland, that would be great. I know he trained extremely well on Saturday and we need to see what the effect of that is.

“He didn’t do a lot of pre-season with Dynamo Kiev, so we’re relying a lot on his natural fitness and athleticism, rather than something that has been worked on.”

  • Ideye has to wait, says West Brom boss

Ideye has to wait, says West Brom boss

WesT Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has said he does not expect record buy Brown Ideye to start playing for the EPL club immediately.

Irvine said except he surprises him, Nigeria striker Ideye needs to work more with the squad before he will make his debut for ‘The Baggies’.

“I don’t see him being involved in the early stages of the season because he still needs to work with the rest of the squad,” Irvine said.

But the manager was also quick to point out that with the small size of his squad, Ideye may well be thrown into the deep-end earlier than anticipated.

The former Dynamo Kiev star, who has also played in Switzerland and France, was held back by a late issuance of a visa and work permit by the British Home Office.

The Nigeria international became West Brom’s most expensive signing ever when they reportedly splashed 10 million pounds on him last month.

West Brom’s opening league game is on August 16 against Sunderland at home.
