  • The big sell: Jonathan versus Buhari

With President Goodluck Jonathan’s endorsement for a second term by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the 2015 presidential election in Nigeria is shaping up to be a marketing contest. It promises to be a time when creative framing of the contest will be decisive.  And  with barely five months to the February 14, 2015 presidential election, it is apt to do a comparative analysis of how  sellable are the two front runners, in the race – incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress ( APC).

President Jonathan has two major advantages over any other opponent – name recognition and the power of incumbency which affords him the leverage to create dramatic events and make policy decisions which can advance his chances at the polls. If, for instance, he musters the courage to further reduce fuel price, induce accelerated trial and eventual jailing of fuel subsidy scammers, sack police commissioners in states where kidnapping has become thriving business, and get the army to take the fight to the Boko Haram insurgents, he can fairly blunt his perception as a fumbling, ‘clueless’ anti-people leader who gives no damn about the suffering of the masses. It can also begin to indicate that he has not been in consort with, or a patron saint of, the corrupt oligarchy. The poser is: Can he?

Of course, no leader at the level of the Presidency will not have ‘achievements’ to celebrate. The task for Jonathan’s marketing agents – and we have a plethora of them with the rambunctious Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) taking the cake – is itemizing those populist programmes and projects which have transformed the peoples’ lives. Statistics don’t sell with the masses; what are those Jonathan policy measures which touch lives of citizens, directly. What are the tangibles?

However, one achievement President Jonathan can rightly boast of is being a democrat, allowing the people’s will to prevail in elections, by citing the governorship elections  in Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Ekiti states  and most recently Osun, the so-called militarisation of the process in the last two states notwithstanding. Also, there is, to some extent, the perception of President Jonathan as being tolerant of criticisms going by the stridency of some of his critics, which occasionally degenerate to name calling, with some columnists tagging him as ‘clueless’ and a serpent.

Our president says he is not a Pharaoh or a General and projects as your regular, unpretentious village boy. Let no one be deceived. It is becoming obvious that behind his manufactured humble mien lurk a strong willed streak and a cunning which neutralize opposition without being seen as a demolishing Leviathan, a bulldozer. You remember that General turned-farmer, who became a two-term president and brashly showed us he was a Power Hurricane?  The Otueke village boy has quietly humbled him without a fuss.  Just as he has neutralized those vociferous Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) grandstanders most of whom are yesterday’s men seeking relevance in today’s politics. The saturation campaign of Jonathan’s foot soldiers, nationwide, has had the effect of intimidating potential challengers in his party, the PDP, thus leading to his unanimous adoption as party presidential candidate. The continuing saturation awareness campaign strategy is also intended to numb the people to feel there is no effective, alternative choice in the opposition to his candidacy. Those not sold on Candidate Jonathan may choose not to vote, but then even a 30 percent voter turnout does not invalidate the election.  It is a situation where voter apathy may work to Jonathan’s advantage. After all, is democracy not turning into a rule of the minority?

Now to General Muhammadu Buhari. How do we place this General in terms of electoral permutation and marketing?

Buhari, in terms of name recognition, personal integrity and consistency is the most sellable candidate for the APC.  But a Buhari presidential bid suffers two major setbacks – that of limited time to project him as well as frame the campaign issues and an apparent funding limitation. The procrastination of his party, the APC, in projecting him as the putative candidate, has not helped matters, thus allowing all kinds of political opportunists to jostle for the party’s presidential ticket under a nebulous internal democracy mantra.  It is turning out a chaotic terrain, especially with some party leaders and APC sympathetic columnists articulating weird presidential ticket permutations, including that of a Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, a PDP stalwart, as the party’s presidential candidate, if he defects. It does not get more desperate and befuddled!

There is also an unexplainable lethargy in APC awareness campaign nationwide. As noted by Tatalo Alamu in his Snooper column in The Nation of Sunday of August 31, “like an overweight sprinter, the APC has been slow to get off the starting block”.  It is rather ludicrous seeing APC’s spokesmen whining that Jonathan’s foot soldiers shouldn’t be on the campaign trail. Who is stopping APC following suit?  It would appear the Buhari strategists suffer the same lethargy, like the party, in getting a Buhari saturation awareness campaign off the block. It ignores two realities – that a presidential election is a marathon, not a 100 meters dash and that at presidential election level, the candidate, not the party, is the focal point. That is why it is now more of selling the candidate, his persona, his credibility.

The main advantage and attraction of a Buhari candidacy, and putative Presidency, is his perception as an incorruptible person who can be trusted to confront the cancer of corruption that is ravaging the country, head on. It is the one issue which, properly articulated, and coupled with that of insecurity, can determine the presidential election outcome in Buhari’s favour. This is where framing the election issue becomes crucial. Two American presidential elections were determined, basically, on just one issue each – weak  leadership  in the Carter- Reagan  1980 election, and insecurity/crime in the Bush versus Dukakis election in 1988. I covered both election campaigns, live. The Chibok girls’ abduction by Boko Haram insurgents is a scene reminiscent of Iranian militants holding Americans hostage at the U.S Embassy in Teheran in 1979 for several months up to Election Day in November 1980 which projected President Jimmy Carter to the American people as a weak leader who cannot assert American power to free the hostages. Then Governor Ronald Reagan, who had vowed to confront the Iranians with the American might, whatever it takes, won the election in a landslide, Carter winning only in two of the 50 states – his native Georgia and Minnesota, the state of his running mate, Walter Mondale.

In the 1988 electoral battle between Vice President George H.W. Bush (Republican) and the Governor of Massachusetts, Michael Dukakis (Democrat), the Bush campaign turned the table on front runner Dukakis by projecting him as soft on crime and liberal with criminals, exemplifying this with Dukakis’ granting of parole to a jailed rapist, Willie Horton, in Massachusetts only for the convict to go to Maryland state to commit another rape. Although Dukakis engineered economic renewal of Massachusetts state, and promised similar economic miracle nationwide, the Bush campaign framed the election as a security/crime issue and vigorously projected a crime-ridden America under a Dukakis Presidency which persuaded the American people to vote for security, thus ending the presidential hopes of Dukakis. It was a classic example of campaign issue framing.

Both candidates Jonathan and Buhari carry some baggage.  Given Nigeria’s state of insecurity and rampant corruption, which are generally seen to have worsened under Jonathan’s watch, President Jonathan’s re-election becomes a hard sell to the Nigerian electorate, while the perception of Buhari, in some quarters, as a religious fanatic and northern irredentist are burdens he would need to discharge. Buhari also suffers the additional disadvantage of limited campaign penetration, which can, however, be mitigated if creative campaigning is applied in the time available.  Ultimately, two factors will be decisive in the 2015 presidential election– voter turnout and perception management.  In the 2011 presidential election, 38.2 million people voted as against 66.8 million registered voters, representing about 55 percent voter turnout.  The party that can mobilise more of its supporters to cast their ballots will be at an advantage. On perception management, a projection of President Jonathan as a seemingly ‘harmless’ person who flows with the tide may attract a ‘let him be’ vote for a second term from an indulgent electorate while a vigorous marketing of Buhari as a selfless patriot, the liberator from the bondage of corruption and insecurity could persuade the voters to cast their ballots for the ascetic General. It is a potential cliff hanger. However, given the imponderables of politics, anything can happen, between now and the February 14, 2015 vote, to change the calculations.

Presidency: I’ am not desperate to be APC’s candidate- Buhari

Former Head of State and national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday put to rest insinuations that he was desperate to be the flag bearer of the party for the 2015 presidential election, saying the unity of the party is paramount.
Buhari also warned his supporters against casting aspersions on any aspirant on the platform of the party or be rude to leaders of the party as doing so would mean working for the enemy.
Addressing his supporters under the auspices of the Buhari Support Group, General Buhari who said he will soon formally declare his intention to contest the Presidency told them that if eventually he fails to get the party ticket, they should support whoever the party puts forward.

If he however gets the party’s  ticket, Buhari said they should redouble their efforts and commitment until the party wins the presidency, adding that their support must go beyond him as a person and extend to the party.
Buhari was accompanied to the event by former Kaduna state Military Administrator, Col. Hamid Ibrahim Ali, former Minister of Internal Affairs, Brig. General John Shagaya and former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Umaru Dembo.
“With support, I intend to offer myself for the position of the President of the republic on the platform of our great party. I intend to make a formal announcement soon and I hope I can count on up your continuing support and sacrifice.
“However, I would like to point out to you that to be more meaningful, your support must extend beyond my person and always be available to the party and all those the party puts forward because it is the party that is the platform.
“You must at all times remember that the APC is a party with several qualified people for each and all the positions that will be contested, including that of the President. It is the primaries that will determine who eventually represents the party and in which capacity.
“If I get the party nomination, I expect you to redouble your effort and commitment until we clinch the presidency. But in the event that it happens to be one of the other aspirants who wins, I will expect you, as a good party man to extend to him your support. We are a united party and united we shall remain because our strength lies in our unity.
“For this and for other reasons, I must warn all my supporters, volunteers and other well wishers within  the party and even out of it not to insult or be rude to any other aspirant or party leader on my behalf.
“My supporters must not engage in any kind of behavior or conduct that will tarnish the image of any leader or promote division and ran our within the ranks of the party. Whoever does that should know that he or she is working for the enemy.
“At the same time, I would like to appeal a curve you to be good Ambassadors of the opposition. As a body, the opposition is committed to the rule of law and as members of the parties in the opposition, you must learn to do the same at all times.
“In particular, you must learn to be vigilant especially just before, during and immediately after elections, whether these are rigged or not so that sponsored hoodlums are not made to commit illegalities that are, in the end blamed on you, ” Buhari said.

  • Freedom of choice ‘ll change Nigerian system, says Buhari

Freedom of choice ‘ll change Nigerian system, says Buhari

Former Head of State Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria will get it right when citizens are allowed to elect leaders of their choice.

Buhari, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said lack of freedom of choice and openness in governance led to the disintegration of the Soviet Union, stressing that democracy thrives better in a multi-party system.

He said in a multi-party system where elections are credible, the people used their voting power to install a government of their choice, which guaranteed stability in the system.

The APC leader spoke yesterday in Lagos when he visited the family of Mr. Dimgba Igwe, a renowned journalist and vice chairman of The Sun Publishing Company. He was killed by a hit-and -run driver on September 6.

Gen. Buhari described the late Igwe as a patriotic Nigerian, who stood for the truth all the time.

He told the widow: “Your husband left a legacy of patriotism and courage. May God give you the courage to bear the irreparable loss.”

In the condolence register, Gen. Buhari wrote: “Nigeria has lost one of its finest citizens. May God Almighty give the family the patience to bear the loss.”

Mr. Mike Awoyinfa, who described himself as a “twin brother” of the deceased, said in an emotion-laden voice: “It is sad my friend is gone. For four hours after he was knocked down, he was taken from one hospital to the other. They refused to admit him because they lacked the facilities that could save him. By the time he was taken to the hospital where he was admitted, he could hardly breathe and by the time he was taken to the theatre, Dimgba had given up.

“On behalf of the family, I welcome you (Gen. Buhari) with mixed emotion and sadness for obvious reasons. I am glad you are here today. The Gen. Buhari we know is a great man, a compassionate and forthright leader. If you believe in a cause, you will fight it to the end. You are Dimgba’s hero. He was your behind-the-scene campaigner. He kept telling people to vote for you. He even campaigned for you in his church despite that you are a Muslim.”

Gen. Buhari has said the late Brig.-Gen. Benjamin Adekunle fought to keep the country united.

Gen. Buhari, who also visited the home of the late Civil War hero yesterday, said it took the gallantry and courage of Adekunle to achieve a modern Nigeria.

Said he: “His colleagues were the late Gen. Murtala Muhammed and the late Gen. Mohammed Shuwa. Shuwa was commanding the 1st Division, Murtala 2nd Division and Adekunle commanded 3rd Marine Commando during and after the civil war. They made great sacrifice to keep the country one.

“We have not faced a much national upheaval as we did during the civil war and I hope it will not repeat itself.”

Buhari said the challenges posed by insecurity were surmountable, adding that the armed forces were up to the task.

His words: “The security challenges we are passing through are not in the military leadership, but political leadership. The late Ahmadu Bello spent more than 40 per cent on education, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo spent more than 55 per cent on education. Now how much is government spending on education?”

Gen. Buhari noted that if the government spent on education, the people would  understand better.

He said crimes would reduce if the right things were done.

In his condolence message, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader prayed the Almighty God to grant the family and the country the fortitude to bear the loss.

  • APC: Buhari is the man to beat

SIR: With the endorsement of the president Goodluck Jonathan by the People Democratic Party (PDP) for the next year presidential election, Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the opposition All Progressives Congress to choose its presidential standard bearer, who will slug it out with the president under the emerging two-party structures.

To say that the PDP has done its best to move the nation forward is to say the obvious. However, its best is not enough to harness the potential of this greatly endowed nation for the good of the citizenry. The party has been in government since 1999 till date, yet, the reality of our development is just like taking one step forward and two backward. Insecurity, corruption, unemployment, poverty in the midst of plenty, epileptic power supply, poor roads and prostrate economy are the lots of our nation. Although voodoo economists are telling us contrary story about the reality of our development, however, some of us know that they are just pooling wool over our eyes to cover their inefficiency.

If there is any auspicious time for the opposition to wrestle power from the PDP, the time is now. However, APC has a great task at hand if she is to accomplish this task. Enemies of progress of this nation are already waiting for the time when the party will conduct its national congress to choose its presidential standard bearer, what they believe will lead to the implosion of the party. True to the permutation of the detractors, the number of those jostling for the presidential ticket of the party is rising by the day and this is giving the lovers of the party a concern about how the party will come out of the congress unscratched.

To be candid, there is nothing bad in aspiring for the highest office in the land. However, if APC really meant to wrestle power from the PDP, stalwarts should be honest with one another and must be prepared to sacrifice. The situation at hand does not call for experimentation. Nigerian presidency is not just for anybody. It is a complex position which needs complex and tested people, not parvenu, who are just out to give the leadership of the party a jungle to clear. The sacrifice made by the leaders of various legacy parties that merged together to form the APC was highly acknowledged by Nigerians because they saw it as the signal that the liberation of the nation was nigh.

In view of the enormity of the task ahead, if the party is to achieve its aim of winning the power at the federal level in the next election. I am appealing to the leadership of the party to rally round the former head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to fly the party’s flag in the next year presidential election.

My reasons for arriving at this position are simple. Firstly, Buhari is a household name in Nigeria, and has his followership cutting across geopolitical zones. Secondly, he is a tested hand and his qualities as disciplined, upright, incorruptible individual with tenacity of purpose are all added advantages.  Thirdly, the fact that he had about 12million votes against 22million votes of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last presidential election shows that with support from the leadership of the party from other zones, he could easily make up the lost votes and emerge the winner. This cannot be said of any other aspirant.

Buhari: APC set to rescue Nigeria

ALL Progressives Congress’ (APC) chieftain and former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has reiterated the determination of the party to rescue the nation from insecurity and other challenges allegedly being foisted by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)-led Federal Government.

Buhari spoke in Sokoto, where he officially commissioned and inspected projects, including the just completed 250-bed Orthopaedic Hospital constructed by the Governor Aliyu Wamakko-led government.

He urged patriotic Nigerians with passion for growth to rise against all odds in support of the wind of change to defeat the woes currently afflicting the nation’s progress.

“APC is set to unify, serve and develop the country for the benefit of the average Nigerian. The party is all-embracing. It’s not set to short-change the rights of the citizens, but promote equality, social justice, accountability and transparency,” he said.

Buhari noted that the APC has a clear objective of “securing and efficiently managing Nigeria for Nigerians” irrespective of affiliation.

His words: “Our priority is to make Nigerians to sleep with their two eyes closed, dream and even snore. We will stop corruption and make the ordinary people, the weak and the vulnerable our top priority.”

He described the mass deployment of military personnel by the government during the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections as uncalled for.

“The number of soldiers deployed during elections in Ekiti and Osun states are enough to rescue our schoolgirls that are still in the captivity,” the former head of state said.

The security situation in the country, according to him, was worrisome and called for serious concern.

He noted that security was fast deteriorating in the Northeast, pointing out that only the APC has the capacity and determination to rescue Nigerians from the menace caused by the PDP-led administration.

Buhari said he was impressed with Wamakko for initiating and completing the hospital project.

“It will further help in saving the lives of accident and emergency victims in the state and save them the trouble of travelling outside to seek such specialised services.

“I am so impressed with the systematic methods Wamakko had employed to execute all his people-oriented projects,” he added.

Wamakko, he noted, had found a place in history among his people and Nigerians.

“You should consider yourself lucky and I am very pleased with the even spread of your projects in the 23 local governments,” he stated.

The governor, in his remarks, said his administration had accorded top priority to the health sector from 2007 to date.

He added that the government had provided a general hospital for each of the 23 local governments.

“There are 240 primary health centres in the state; each provided with an ambulance, adequate medical personnel and equipment, among others.

“All these were in addition to several interventionist projects successfully implemented by the state government in the health sector.

“Health is wealth and only a healthy population can be productive,” he stated.

Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, said the hospital had since begun orthopaedic and trauma services.

  • Supporters seek automatic ticket for Buhari

Supporters seek automatic ticket for Buhari

Even as the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) insists on adopting what it describes as the modified direct primaries for the selection of candidates for next year’s elections, supporters of the former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, may have begun moves to ensure that the party gives automatic ticket to him.

The underground move, which is gaining momentum in the party, The Nation learnt, is causing a stir in the camps of other presidential aspirants.

At its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting attended by the former Nigerian leader and ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, APC said it would adopt the modified direct primaries for candidates interested in contesting any elective office, a position that has been widely applauded by members across the country.

A source in the party told The Nation that the leadership of the party is worried by feelers from the Buhari camp “that the emergence of Buhari as a candidate is a settled matter.”

The source quoted the spokesman for The Buhari Organisation (TBO), Osita Okechuku, as saying: “Given all the indices, APC already has a de facto presidential candidate in Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). “If you go through the constitution of the APC,  Article 20 says for the nomination of candidate either for party offices or presidential election, you first explore consensus. If an agreement is reached through consensus, it has to be affirmed. If we go through that method, although we have a lot of quality people in APC, I do not know of any person the leadership of APC will tell Buhari to step down for.”

Another source said disregarding democratic process in the choice of APC’s presidential standard-bearer could drag the party into “a  deep and possibly political damage”, adding that the idea of “automatic adoption of Buhari or any other aspirant is undemocratic and will be resisted.”

The source said those scheming for “automatic ticket for Buhari are probably Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fifth columnists, who are planning the downfall of APC because of their fear that if allowed to pick its presidential candidate through the modified direct primaries, it is likely to win the presidential election.”

Buhari has reportedly said as a loyal member, he would abide by the decision of the party.

2015: Group backs Buhari for presidency

A Non Governmental     Organisation,     ReachForth Nigeria, said Monday that former Head of State and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has the best credentials to lead Nigeria to the “promised land”. Chairman of the Organisation, Rev. Yunana Oganto told The Nation in a telephone interview that as a way of achieving this objective, it has set up a committee to draft strategy on JOE to mobilize 30 million Voters across the country with effect from October, 2015.

Oganto said that the Organisation believe that Gen. Buhari is the only Nigerian among all those aspiring for the presidency that can provide the needed leadership that will pull the nation out of its current state of insecurity.  Oganto said the retired Army General has in abundance the required wisdom to lead the nation, saying they believe that he can eventually restore the peace and security that has eluded the nation in recent times. He said: “The Reachforth Nigeria has sat down and taken assessment of political happenings in the country and we saw that Nigeria needs a leadership that will eventually restore the peace and security that we have been enjoying before recent happenings. “In view of that, we looked at all those who are presenting themselves as aspirants to be elected to lead this country, and we saw that General Buhari is the only one that can be entrusted with the leadership of this country, and we can be rest assured that Nigeria will return to its glory and its security will be guaranteed and it’s economy will grow as it use to be.

“This is because we have also looked at the desperation of the present administration led by President Jonathan and the way he is going about the leadership of the country and we believe that he cannot be entrusted with the leadership of this country for another four years.   “We also took note of the fact that this desperation has made Jonathan and his co-travelers in the PDP, to become so obsessed with winning election, than in providing the good governance that we expected from them.

This is the basic reason why we felt that Buhari, if given the chance and the mandate by Nigerians, will be able to lead this country to the promised land”. On the argument that General Buhari is too old to vie for the presidency, he said “We should be mindful of the fact that wisdom is the greatest asset to a leader. In term of Buhari’s age is a possessor of that wisdom and we need people of wisdom, high calibre wisdom to provide the needed leadership which Nigerians want.  “If Nigerians are followers of history, they will realize that the great Soviet Union and even the United States of America had leaders who were elected in their seventies. Ronald Reagan is one of such leaders and he did tremendously well in restoring the economy as well as the dignity of their people.

“So, we think that we have tried the young ones. Gen Gowon was about 32 years old and Murtala was in his thirties. So we think that we have tried younger people and where has it led us? Even though they were military people. Shagari was not that old when he came in. He was just about the age of our present leaders. “So, we have tried all these and we discovered that it has not led us to have that kind of leadership that will bring Nigeria into the climax of the leadership in Africa.

“We are the giant of Africa and if we are the giants of Africa, we will need to show beyond reasonable doubt that we are able to lead Africa in this project and I believe that we need an old man like Buhari to come in and provide that needed leadership. Middle belt agitation”. He argued that even though the Middle Belt region would want the presidency zone to them when it eventually return to the north, those who would have received the support of the Organisation has declined the presidency. > He said: “I have been part of that agitation.

I was one of those who sat down and assess the personalities we have and we concluded that we have only two persons who, if given the chance when the leadership is zoned to the north should be considered. > “But these two persons have come up in recent times to show that they will not be interested in contesting for the leadership of the country. With this foregone conclusion, we decided that the most amenable person to us in the middle belt in terms of what the people say, the reality is that the most amenable to us in the middle belt under whose leadership we will be secured is Gen. Buhari. > “We looked at Gen. TY Danjuma and we felt that he is the most capable man Nigerians can have at the moment as a leader. But Gen. Danjuma is not a politician and he has made it clear that he will not be going. I will keep the second person close to my chest for now”.

    2015: Buhari’ll declare ambition soon, says ex-minister

A former Petroleum Resources Minister Umaru Dembo has said former Head of State and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari will declare for next year’s presidential race when he returns from his overseas trip.

The former minister dispelled the rumour that Gen. Buhari would not contest the 2015 election but would approve Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for the ticket.

Dembo spoke yesterday in Kaduna at the inauguration of the Isa Ashiru Campaign Team.

The former minister said other presidential aspirants were free to join the race for the APC ticket, adding that whoever emerges winner would be supported by party members.

It was learnt that there had been speculations that Gen. Buhari would leave the ticket for Kwankwaso because he would not contest again, having done so in three previous elections.

Also, the Director-General of the Ashiru Campaign Organisation, Ambassador Sule Buba, has said more Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members would defect to APC in Kaduna State.

But he did not give a specific date this would happen, though he said the defection would be at the right time to “bury the PDP”.

Buba said the success of the PDP in the previous elections rested on southern Kaduna, which gave the party block votes.

Gen. Buhari, who is also a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described Ade Ajayi as “one of Nigeria’s greatest academics”.

The former leader, in his condolence letter to the governor, said Ade Ajayi contributed immensely to knowledge, especially in the field of History.

He said:”In the last 50 years, all primary, secondary and university students in Nigeria, who read History, would have been familiar with the great historian.

“He was a teacher to all of us and a major contributor to our store of knowledge and scholarship.

“His contribution to History has not been excelled by any Nigerian.

“If there was a Nobel Prize for historical research, I feel confident that Prof. Ade Ajayi would have won it.”
