NFF bans social media in camp

    • Eagles’ players forbidden from tweets
    • Instagram, facebook too

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hinted that Super Eagles players will be restricted on their use of social media while on international duty following the face off between Sunday Oliseh and Vincent Enyeama last Tuesday.

NFF supremo Amaju Pinnick made this known after a meeting in Belgium on Saturday with the main protagonists involved in the dispute.

Lille numero uno Vincent Enyeama made headlines last week after he took to Instagram to express his disappointment on how he was mistreated by Sunday Oliseh.

“No player launches his career through the social media. When players are at their clubs, they don’t broadcast camp situation on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, ” Pinnick said.

“The same restraint and discipline must be observed in the national camp.”

Enyeama won’t be the first Super Eagles player to take to a social networking site to voice his displeasure at team officials, with ex-West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie launching an attack on the NFF via Twitter after his omission from the 2013 African Cup of Nations roster.

  • Camp exposes teenage girls to technology

With skills such as video production, 3D design, and mobile app development, 27 teenage girls are ready to carve a niche in the world of business using technology.

They impressed their parents with their new skills at a ceremony to close the 2015 Girls Technology Camp organised by Women in Technology (W.TEC).

The programme also featured an exhibition of projects executed by the girls during the camp.

Camped at the Laureates College in Mafoluku, Oshodi for two weeks, the girls, aged 11-17, also learnt about photography, self-defence, financial literacy and careers, and went on field visits to General Electric and MainOne Data Centre.

The girls presented summaries of their skills, entertaining their parents and other guests present as they did.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of certificates to the girls and prizes to those who excelled in individual and group projects, as well as character-wise.

Temitope Bolanle was crowned Ms W.TEC for being an all-rounder in academics, character, and camp life. She also won awards for the holiday resort she designed using 3-Dimension design technology.

Parents were left in no doubt of the value of the training the girls received from the camp.

Ms Kate Duru, whose niece, Stephney, won an award for creating the best mobile App, using MIT App Inventor, said the programme gave parents value for money as the teenagers gained skills they could use to earn a living.

“I am glad to be here to watch my niece win this award. I learnt about this programme about two years ago when my colleague’s daughter attended the camp. She is now our web designer today. There is nothing like waste of money here. I know my niece will also come and join us,” she said.

Mrs Monisola Balogun, an interior designer, said she was impressed about what she saw on the exhibition stand. She particularly praised  Temitope’s work.

“I saw the exhibition stand. I am a professional interior designer. I was so overwhelmed. What she (Temitope) has done is great. She designed a resort. She is just in secondary school. Please keep up the good work,” she said.

Mr Omotoso Bolanle, Temitope’s father, encouraged parents to expose their wards to various skills training to enable them find their feet early. He said early exposure to technology has helped Temitope to decide her course of study in the university which is Computer Science.

Representatives of some of the corporate supporters of the programme also lauded the initiative.

Mrs Adebisi Olukayode, Cloud and Data Centre Specialist, MainOne, which provided free internet service for the duration of the camp, said of its benefit to the girls: “They may not really realise the import of what is happening now. This can be a defining moment for some of them based on what they have done. It is a foundation. But they can actually build on it.”

Babatunde Akinola, Corporate Affairs Manager, Intel Corporation for West Africa, added: “We accept it  because it is giving opportunity to the girls to learn new skills in technology. I feel it is going to be transformational because they are learning skills they can grow with.”

Programme Manager for W.TEC, Ms Modupe Darabido, said beyond technology, a good take away from the camp was how to make money from each skill they learnt.

“For all the ICT programmes they learnt, we tied it to them making money out of it – even starting small. We are helping them to open their minds to possibilities around them using ICT,” she said.

A participant and recipient of the Mobile App Development Award for creating a game using Game Salad software, Tolulope Taiwo, said she would further develop her game beyond Level 4 after the camp.

“I loved the camp. I learnt a lot. I hope to develop my game further, said the 13-year old pupil of White Dove Schools, Lekki.”

  • Ahmed Musa to report late to Eagles’ camp

Ahmed Musa to report late to Eagles’ camp

•CSKA Moscow star wants to sort out personal issues

CSKA Moscow forward, Ahmed Musa will not be reporting to the Super Eagles’ camp on June 3 like other foreign-based players invited for the 2017 African Nations Cup (AFCON) qualifier against Chad.

SportingLife learnt that coach Stephen Keshi has granted an extended deadline to the pacy Eagles forward to enable him attend to some crucial personal issues.

It was gathered that the Big Boss also put into consideration the fact that Musa was in the thick of action just last weekend for his Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow on the last day of the season, where they finished runners-up and picked a Champions League ticket.

The Army Team drew 1-1 at Rostov to end the season with 60 points from 30 games, same as third-placed Kransnodar, who also drew 1-1 at Dinamo Moscow, but CSKA Moscow have a superior goals difference of +40 to Kransnodar’s +25.

Keshi had earlier on granted another Eagles star based in China,Aaron Samuel the permission to arrive at the team’s AFCON camp late due to tedious club engagement in the Chinese Super League.

“As earlier stated, all the invited foreign-based players are expected in camp on or before June 3 with the exception of Ahmed Musa,” the Super Eagles’ media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, told SportingLife in a telephone interview from the national team’s camp in Abuja.

“Last week, the coach granted the request of Aaron Samuel’s club in China for the striker to arrive late to enable him play more games for them at the crucial stages of the Chinese Super League.

“Musa equally appealed to be excused for a few days to sort out pressing personal issues and the coach graciously gave his consent,” the Eagles spokesman stated.

What it means is that Musa, who scored 10 goals in the Russian League for CSKA Moscow in the outgone season, will join the Eagles’ camp after they may have relocated to Kaduna, venue of the match against Chad, on June 13.

  • All home-based players arrive for Eagles camp

All home-based players invited for preparations for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Le Sao of Chad have arrived at the team’s camp, sl10.ng can confirm.

Players from Warri Wolves joined the team on Saturday, after they helped their club to a 4-2 win over Abia Warriors in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game on Friday.

And with the exception of Mfon Udoh, who has been excused due to illness, all other invited players have now reported to the team’s camp.

Since commencing preparations for the Chad game, the team has only been training once a day, as against the usual morning and evening trainings, and Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi explains why.

“These players are already very active and busy with their clubs in the league, sometimes they even play twice in a week, so there is no wisdom in overloading them with two training sessions a day,” he said.

“What we need to do is to tone them up, increase their sharpness and work on team tactics, bonding and understanding. I am very happy with what I have seen of the boys and the quality of the training, and I can say it’s getting higher and better day by day,” he added.

Simon could miss Flying Eagles’ camp

SL10.ng understands that Gent striker Moses Simon has been named in the Flying Eagles’ provisional Fifa Under 20 World Cup squad list called up to attend a training camp ahead of the tournament in Oceania.

Due to commitments with his Belgian club, there had been fears that the teenager, who is dubbed as the Nigerian Ronaldo, would not be available for the tournament which starts on May 30.

If the Fifa rules are followed, the likes of Isaac Success, Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidiebere Nwakali and Moses Simon must be released for the competition latest May 16th.

Unlike Simon, the other three players will have no problem meeting up with the Nigeria Under 20s on or before the deadline.

The Golden Boot Soccer Academy product has very important matches to play for Gent in the month of May, most especially against Anderlecht six days before the start of the tourney.

Moses Simon has pleaded not to be left off the Flying Eagles roster, and it is understood that talks have taken place between the player and Gent to find a way around the problem.

The 19-year- old has been in outstanding form since he joined Gent from AS Trencin in the January transfer window, scoring 6 goals in 9 matches in the top division.
