Pastor Evelyn Joshua, wife of founder TB Joshua, said the church would continue to evangelise as long as satan is not relenting on stealing, killing and destruction.

“We shall continue to evangelise with our mission of changing lives, changing nations and changing the world. The Ghana revival is another opportunity for us to experience God’s touch on humanity,” she said.

She pledged to sustain her late husband’s  legacy of winning souls and bringing hope to the hopeless in a world full of troubles.

Church to youths: govt can’t engage everyone, pursue self-employment

Young men and women have been advised to seek opportunities for self-employment rather than gun for paid jobs.

ECWA Good News Church Jimeta, a Yola-based local council of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) gave the advice on Sunday, January 7, stressing that the government and other employers of labour are increasingly unable to provide needed jobs.

The Senior Resident Pastor of the ECWA Good News Church Jimeta, Rev Maxwell Kuri, said in the 2024 annual speech to his congregation that it is becoming more true than before that self-employment is the enduring way to go.

Maxwell Kuri said: “Our boys and indeed even the girls should get engaged in any form of handiwork. Government jobs are not easily available.”

He expressed the view that a vast majority of the rich are not government workers but people who started as small families in businesses such as smallholder farmers, carpenters, tailors, and the like.

He said youths could make it from such beginning if they persevere.

Also in the message, Rev Maxwell Kuri expressed apprehension that attacks on farming communities, drought, and flooding had made Nigeria vulnerable to hunger, advising Nigerians to prepare to prevent or mitigate the effects of hunger.

He said: “We must note that hunger is the most effective weapon of war. Our enemies will continue to destroy our farms and make it impossible for us to farm. Whatever food we have we must secure properly.”

He said the leadership of the Church is worried about poor harvests that occurred as a result of drought, flooding, and destruction of people’s farms.

The reverend said: “We should know that things can and will get worse unless there are steps taken by the government or organisations like the World Food Program (WFP). There will be serious hunger this year 2024. Please if you have grains, manage it properly.”

Church donates ICU to Alimosho General Hospital

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Region 36, Egbeda, Lagos State, has donated an intensive care unit (ICU) to the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando. The ICU is named after General Overseer of the RCCG and his wife, Pastor Enoch and Mrs. Folu Adeboye.

Mrs. Adeboye, while opening the ICU at the weekend, described it as an attestation of God’s love being expressed through his children. She stressed the need for human beings to ‘think of others and what will benefit them’.

The cleric, popularly called ‘Mummy G.O, also urged the people to be intentional about living healthy. “Health is more important than prosperity. We must desire good health and work towards a healthy living. We must also nurture our children in health so we don’t waste resources.

“And to the donors of this centre, Daddy and I are proud of you and your efforts. We are joyful that our children are walking in the light. May heaven reward you abundantly,” she added.

Pastor in charge of Region 36, Dele Jayeoba, said the church decided on the project because it has a culture of excellence in ensuring that its Corporate Social Responsibility projects (CSR) has great positive impacts on the society.

“This is another win for Region 36. I want to believe this project will be used judiciously and more will come by the grace of God. “What we met was a shell of a building. Part of the roof and windows were off, so we did a complete renovation of the structure and equipped it with modern medical equipments needed in a standard ICU. We can only pray that patients brought in there would survive by the grace of God,” he said.

Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Ayodapo Soyinka, thanked the Church for the grand gesture and promised that the facility will be maintained to the utmost standard. He also promised it will be expanded beyond its current status.

According to Soyinka, the structure was a triage centre in the heat of COVID-19 which however became redundant after the phase passed.

He said: “So we got permission from the Ministry of Health to repurpose the building and this is what became the ICU today. We decided on the ICU because none of the government health facilities in this axis has a functional ICU, and many times we have had to refer patients to LASUTH or LUTH.

“The church signified its interest in reinventing the place for us. They bought into our vision to transform the place to an ICU and here we are today. The church did the full renovation and brought in medical supplies needed for its full operation. So by first week in December, the ICU will become fully operational.

“The ICU will also be run on a PPP arrangement. We have signed an agreement with a team of professionals who will be running the place, with a lot of volunteer work from our own staff, particularly from our anesthesia department. So I’m sure we will have enough personnel to run the place. And because it’s going to be semi-private run, I’m certain a high standard wil be maintained.”

Soyinka listed equipment provided by the church to include  electric and manual beds, ventilators, six multiparameter monitors, infusion pumps, special mattresses for ICU, suction machines, oxygen concentrators, AED machine to rescue a patient experiencing cardiac arrest, and other consumables. He added that the oxygen is piped so there will be no need to move the cylinder around.

The event was also attended by Chairman of the Lagos State Health Service Commission Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, and Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ola Olukoyede, who is also a pastor in the RCCG. He led the project team.

Comply with procurement law, NGO urges Ekiti officials

    From Rasaq Ibrahim, Ado-Ekiti

Anon-governmental organisation, Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), has urged ministries, departments and agencies of the Ekiti State government to ensure strict compliance with provisions of the procurement law.

The Senior Programme Advisor, Ife Olatunji-David, spoke in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, during a five-day sub-national public procurement bootcamp organised by the centre in partnership with MacArthur Foundation.

At the event were stakeholders in the procurement process, including the officials of the Ekiti State Bureau of Public Procurement, heads of MDA’s, civil society organisations and media executives.

Olatunji-David said procurement officers in the MDAs have a responsibility to ensure compliance with regulatory procurement frameworks towards ensuring delivery of quality project.

She lamented that several civil servants are not fully conversant with laid down processes in the award and execution of public contracts, hence, the urgent need for MDAs to understand the procurement laws.

The Senior Programme Advisor advocated transparency and accountability in the implementation of projects, saying such will enhance the trust and confidence of citizens in government.

The group Senior Communication officer, Nnenna Eze said that the bootcamp was organised to sensitise the public on the procurement laws, transparency and accountability practices, monitoring and evaluation of public projects.

She explained that the programme would give participants a better understanding and synergy in the procurement process and promote transparency and openness in public expenditure at the sub-national level.

She called on citizens to take advantage of the Freedom of Information Act to get access information to public records and information especially on procurement and projects implementation.

This, she, said will promote transparency and accountability, build public trust and improve public service because when governments realise that their activities are subject toscrutiny they become more circumspect.

In her submission, a Director in the Ekiti State Bureau of Public Procurement, Mrs Bolanle Oladele stated that procurement processes have become more open and transparent  since the state  joined the Open Government Partnership.

She noted that the state government has been running an open governance with the development of an institutionalised portal where all procurement processes were accessible to build public trust and confidence.

  • Foundation donates school to church

    Foundation donates school to church

A primary and secondary school, Galilee Primary and Secondary School, worth several millions of Naira, has been established at the Galilee Land City, Headquarters of Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide (CSMC), Orile-Igbon, Oyo State.

The one-storey school building complex was built and donated to the church by Dr Emmanuel Aderemi Awode, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Chemstar Group, manufacturer of Finecoat and Shield Paints, and other paint allied products, under his pet project, the Remi Awode Foundation (RAF).

The school project, which is part of Awode’s contribution to enhance education and push for human capital development of the people in the area, is in realisation of the age-long dream and aspiration of the church to get a school of their own where children in the community and its host communities can acquire and have  access to qualitative education.

RAF was founded on January 27, 2013, to empower members of the church and make  the less-privileged to be self-reliant and  financially independent, as well as to contribute massively towards infrastructural development of CSMC.

The keys, building plan, structural design and other documents of the new school were handed over to the leadership of the church, led by the Chairman and Spiritual Father of Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Dr Samuel Adefila Abidoye, during the inauguration and dedication ceremony, which took place during  the just concluded 2023 Conference and Convention of the Church, which was held at the Galilee Land City.

While handing over the documents, Awode said the school project was borne out of his passion and determination to ensure that the children have a befitting learning environment  to acquire quality education, which the church could be proud of.

In his remarks,  Awode, who is currently the Life Adviser of Galilee Land Development Committee, noted that the best legacy that parents and government could bequeath to the children or younger ones is quality education.

He said: “The magnificent school building complex that comprises the Galilee Land Primary and Secondary School is an attestation to the belief in that vision and support of the carrier of the Galilee Land City vision, Dr Samuel Abidoye, the Chairman and Spiritual Father of Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide.

“The vision for the establishment of a school at the Galilee Land City was informed and borne out of our passion and determination to cater to the educational needs of the children within the Galilee Land community.”

Awode further explained that the need to have a school in the 21st Century, an age of knowledge-driven economy,  has become imperative given the pivotal and critical role education plays in the life and development of individuals, and particularly as a fulcrum of national growth.

He said: “Through the school we will be able to offer our children quality education required for their overall growth and development. The state-of-the-art school complex, which we are about to inaugurated today, as a demonstration and attestation of our vision, consists of 14 classrooms, principal office, head-teacher office, staff offices, pupils and teachers furniture, modern instructional materials, as well as modern conveniences for both students and teachers.

“Therefore, on behalf of RAF, I hand over the keys to the school to Baba Aladura in the name of the Lord, and for the use of humanity.”

Awode, however, said the school project reflects the unwavering commitment of church and that of RAF in ensuring that every child, irrespective of socio-economic standing has opportunity to access quality education in a conducive learning environment.

Abidoye, who expressed joy that the age-long dream of having a school established in the Galilee Land City had finally come to reality, lauded Awode and RAF for bringing such an everlasting joy to his heart.

He described the school project as a legacy for this generation and generations yet to be unborn.
