  • Council chief seeks civil, military cooperation on security

    The Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke has called for more understanding and cooperation between the military and civil society as a panacea to prevailing security challenges in the country.

    The council chief made the call when he hosted the new Commandant of the 9th Brigade, Nigerian Army cantonment, Brigadier A. Oyebade, who visited him as part of his familiarisation tour of key local governments under his command.

    The Commandant in his speech earlier said the visit was borne out of the need for him to understand the terrain under his command and to improve military services to the populace, adding that “most often, the military is drafted to maintain law and order in the current democratic dispensation; as such, it is faced with the challenge of military and civil relationship.” He said with these sorts of opportunities, the military would be better able to understand the civil populace and know the terrain better anytime they are drafted to help keep peace in the area.” he said.

    Apostle Oke, while thanking the military chief for the initiative, lauded military exploits particularly in the war against insurgency in the Northern part of the country, as well as curbing criminal acts in other parts of Nigeria and Lagos State in particular through the combined efforts of the Police and other security agencies.

    He however enjoined the visitor to use his good offices to re-position the military operation in Lagos State to conform with democratic tenets which he said can only be achieved through regular interaction,

    mutual understanding and cooperation with the civil society.

  • Council chief hails Tinubu

    Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon.Jide Jimoh, has referred to Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubuas his role model and mentor who he would forever be grateful to.
    Hon. Jimoh said that the national leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, has liberated many from bondage and oppression.
    He described Tinubu as a ‘Tutor-General’ whose intellect and wisdom have been a guiding light to Nigerian politics for an enduring change that will stand the test of time.
    The council chief said these in an interactive with session with the media on the Continental Good Governance and Peace Award which the national executive of Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation went to give him during the final ceremony of the 3rd BRF Wrestlemania in Lagos. Hon. Jimoh said the wisdom of Tinubu and other notable progressive leaders in the country brought about the merger that brought about APC, which he wants all Nigerians to embrace because the party is the solution to the myriad of problems confronting the country and a God-given alternative to Peoples Democratic (Party PDP) government.
    He said that he is working tirelessly to see that he leaves a legacy of integrity at the end of his tenure, adding that he has been running a government that carries the council’s legislative arm, officials and the people along.
    “Yaba LCDA plays host to at least eight higher institutions, a large portion of land that contain Atan Cemetery, the state’s Criminal Investigation Department, CID, headquarters of West African Examination Council, WAEC, a world class psychiatric hospital, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission office and many others. All these show how important the LCDA is to the economy of Lagos State. I’m happy to say that we have been able to maintain peaceful co-existence among people in this area without problem,” said the chairman.
    Jimoh said that he was not surprised with the award given to him by the professional wrestlers because the independent assessors that came to the LCDA were able to see the dividends of democracy his government has been given to the people.
    “We have done a lot to uplift the life of our people. At least 100 elderly people are given N10, 000 for their welfare every month, which will amount to N36m in three years. Yaba LCDA is the first local government to operate free ambulance service in the country. The first LG to equip schools with first aid facilities.
    We also built boreholes for 33 schools and many other projects. I think these and many others things are what the wrestlers saw that made them extend the international recognized award to me and my people,” he said. Jimoh, who played football, table tennis, handball, volleyball in his school days.

  • Council chief donates patrol vans

    In a bid to improve security in his area, the chairman of Badagry Local Government in Lagos State, Hon. Husitode Moses Dosu, has donated two patrol vehicles to Nigeria Police Area “K” Command and one van to the Neighbourhood Watch in Badagry at the council secretariat.

    The council chief remarked that though the council had been peaceful, it was better to prevent it, saying: “my people say it is better to prevent than to cure and failure to plan is planning to fail.”

    Dosu charged residents to be security conscious because the present situation in the country calls for alertness, and caution. He said that all hands must be on deck to prevent threat to life, insurgency, bombing, kidnapping and other social vices which have potential to create chaos.

    According to him: “I want to implore everybody to support the Nigeria Police and other security operatives either through sensitisation or by providing vital information about hoodlums, robbers’ dens or notorious activities which can affect the peaceful co-existence of our people. All of us must be community police informants as part of our civic responsibilities”. He said to whom much is given much is expected.

    Area “K” Command, Commander, Mr Sina Soyemi, expressed his appreciation and assured the residents of more crime-free enviroment. He urged the residents to cooperate with all security operatives.

    Among the dignitaries present were the representative of Aholu Menu Toyi, the Oba Akran, High Chief Jenge of Badagry Kingdom, DPO Badagry, CSP M.A. Dankoli, ACN Chairman, Alhaji Nojeem Ojo, Council Manager, Prince Sunday Adegbola Olujobi, Community Development Committee Chairman, Mr. Ebenezer Kuponu, Secretary to the council, ,Hon. Sunday Setonji Balogun.

    Council chief inspires staff, police

    CHAIRMAN of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Ramota Oseni-Adeyeri has raised the morale of her staff, just as much as she lifted the spirits of policemen in the council.

    She rewarded the hard work of her senior staff as well as the efforts of the legislative arm of the council by providing them with brand new vehicles.

    Oseni-Adeyeri presented 13 Chevrolet cars to the council staff, and two patrol vans to the police to enhance their work.

    The benefitting staff, drawn from different sectors of the council, included the Chief of Staff, Supervisors for Works, Health, Agriculture, Budget, Environment, Market, among several others.

    While presenting the vehicles, the council boss urged the staff to be more committed to their work, with the vehicles providing additional impetus.

    The Chief of Staff  and Deputy  Leader of the council, Prince Peter Adeymi  and Hon. Yinusa Adeola told Newsextra that the gesture was borne out of the council’s desire to ease the transportation challenges of the staff.

    They expressed happiness and promised not to fail in their duties or disappoint their supporters who look up to them.

    Presenting the vans to the Nigeria police, Princess Oseni-Adeyeri challenged the law enforcement agents to make judicial use of the vehicles and bring crime to the barest minimum in the area.

    Each of the vans was given to the Okokomaiko Police station and Iba Divisional Police Station.

    Oseni-Adeyeri who gave out the vans at the council‘s secretariat, said they were meant to boost security in the council.

    She praised the Divisional Police Officer at Okokomaiko, Superintendent Temple Ituma and  Superintendent Okoye Ngozi of Iba for their proactivenss and prompt response to distress calls, even as she challenged them to do more.

    Receiving the vans, the DPOs praised the council for the vans and pledged that they will be used for the purpose for which they were acquired.

    “Let me, on behalf of the Nigeria Police, thank the council Chairman for this donation. Coming at a time like this, we know you  have challenged us to come out more forcefuly against criminals in our midst. Let me send a note of warning to all men of shady character to leave this council or face the wrath of the law, because we shall soon smoke them out,” Ituma said. So too did Ngozi.
