    Bright Chimezie humbled as Davido credits him for musical inspiration

    Veteran highlife musician Bright Chimezie has expressed immense joy after Afrobeats superstar Davido acknowledged him as an inspiration for his hit track “With You” featuring Omah Lay.

    In an interview with HipTV, Chimezie revealed that Davido cited his 2018 classic, Because of English, as the creative spark behind the song.

    Chimezie commended Davido’s humility and said he felt deeply honoured and grateful for the recognition. He also disclosed that he was unaware of the influence until Davido personally reached out to inform him.

    He said: “Words cannot describe how I feel. I’m so delighted. I feel honoured. And I’m grateful to Davido for recognising that he drew inspiration from me,” he said.

    “I didn’t even know that his song With You was inspired by my song Because Of English. He was the person who made me to understand that. He put a call across to me and confessed that he was inspired by my song. The humility and everything, I feel so happy about it.”

    The highlife legend, who recently signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, has also confirmed that he’s still actively making music, despite taking a backseat in recent years to allow younger artists to thrive.

    Six Nigerian artistes who have performed at football tournaments

    Grammy-winning Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, is set to perform at the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show.

    The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is scheduled to hold between June 14 and July 13 in the United States, with the highly anticipated halftime show billed for July 13 at the MetLife Stadium.

    According to a statement by Global Citizen, producers of the show, Tems will headline the show alongside Colombian hitmaker J Balvin and American pop star Doja in a performance that will be broadcast live.

    Here are six other Nigerian artists who have performed at football tournaments:

    1. D’banj 2013 AFCON:

    D’banj brought high energy and Afrobeats flair to the closing ceremony of the 2013 AFCON held in South Africa.

    His performance of hits like “Oliver Twist” thrilled fans across the continent and marked one of the early moments when Nigerian pop was prominently featured at a major international football event.

    2. Davido 2022 World Cup Final:

    In 2022, at the World Cup, Davido made history as the first Nigerian artists to perform at a FIFA World Cup final.

    Alongside Trinidad Cardona and Aisha, he performed the official World Cup anthem “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” in Qatar. His appearance showcased Nigeria’s global music influence on football’s biggest stage.

    3. Burna Boy 2023 Champions League Final:

    Burna Boy performed during the UEFA Champions League Final halftime show in Istanbul. 

    His set, which included hits like “Last Last” and “Alone,” earned rave reviews and marked the first time a Nigerian artist headlined such a high-profile European football event.

    4. Yemi Alade 2024 AFCON:

    Yemi Alade delivered a powerful performance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. Blending music and cultural choreography, her appearance celebrated African unity.

    5. Patoranking FIFA 2022 Concert:

    Nigerian music sensation Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie popularly known as Patoranking performed at the fan festival during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

    The Headies Award winner, performed before a large crowd and viewers from around the world at one central location at Al Bidda Park in Doha on November 28.

    6. Kizz Daniel FIFA 2022 Concert:

    Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel enthralled the crowd with his performance at the World Cup Fans Festival in Qatar.

    Kizz performed his then hit song “Buga” in front of an enthusiastic crowd of football fans.

    Kiss Daniel took to his verified Instagram account to share a video snippet of his performance with the caption, “As a Naija boy, I say thank you Africa.

    Davido cancels UK show at Tottenham Hotspur stadium amid production issues

    Grammy-nominated singer Davido has announced the cancellation of his upcoming performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 3rd. 

    In a statement on Instagram, he cited unresolved issues with the event’s execution, particularly regarding key elements necessary for a high-quality performance. 

    Davido emphasised that despite strong fan support and ticket sales, his commitment to upholding the integrity of his craft and respect for his fans and culture stands. 

    He added that the rest of his summer tour dates, however, remain on schedule.

    The statement reads: “Over the past few weeks, I have extended my full support and professionalism to The Necto Future Group, promoters of @iconicpresents, with the sincere intention of delivering a performance that meets the high standards my fans deserve.

    Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales, there have been major misalignments regarding the event’s execution, particularly concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance. 

    “Unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved. As a result, I regret to inform you that I will no longer be performing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 3rd. Please note, the show still holds, but without Davido.

    “My team and I have worked tirelessly in preparation, and I am incredibly grateful to the thousands of fans who purchased tickets in anticipation.     “London, I’ll see you guys soon, I promise! Rest of the shows this summer are still happening. 5ive is still alive! See you guys in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada and the US! Africa must be respected.”

    Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, has expressed deep gratitude and loyalty to the singer, referring to him as his “savior, benefactor and president” in an Instagram post.

    “Calling 001 my friend is absolutely wrong. He’s my savior, benefactor, my oga and my own president, my everything. If I should come another life again, I’ll be with him,” he said.

    This statement follows a public feud with BBNaija star Phyna, sparked by her friendship with Israel’s ex-wife, Sheila Courage.

    The drama escalated after Phyna and Sheila vacationed together in Mauritius, prompting Israel to send Phyna a WhatsApp message where he insulted her and expressed displeasure about her bond with Sheila.

    He also admitted to warning other celebrities, like Mercy Aigbe to stay away from his ex-wife, while making derogatory remarks about Sheila’s past and character.

    Phyna responded by leaking their chats on X, calling Israel unprintable names and accusing him of being the problem in his failed marriage.

    She also claimed Israel said he spent 30 million naira on Sheila and would never forgive her for allegedly cheating.

    Israel, in turn, doubled down on his loyalty to Davido, emphasising the singer’s significant role in his life amidst the ongoing social media clash.

    Grammy-nominated singer Davido has announced Cobhams Asuquo as the musical director for his upcoming “5ive Alive” world tour.

    In a video shared on Instagram, Davido praised Asuquo’s work and expressed excitement about their collaboration.

    The tour will feature Davido performing in nearly 20 arenas worldwide.

    Asuquo also expressed his enthusiasm about joining the project.

    “He is the ‘5ive’ Alive musical director of the world tour. Almost 20 arenas, it’s going to be crazy.

    Davido’s fifth album, “5ive,” was released on April 18 and features a diverse range of artists, including Jamaican singers 450 and Shensea, South African artist Musa Keys, and American musicians Chris Brown and Becky G.

    The album boasts 17 tracks, including “5ive,” “Anything,” “Be There Still,” and “Holy Water.”

    Nigerian artists Victony, Odumodublvck, Chike, and Omah Lay are also featured on the album.

    Nasboi survives accident while touring 36 states for Davido’s feature

    Comedian and singer Nasboi has narrowly escaped a serious car accident while on a 36-state tour aimed at securing a song verse from music star Davido.

    The crash occurred on June 4, 2025, when Nasboi’s vehicle was badly damaged after getting trapped beneath a heavy-duty truck during his nationwide journey.

    He shared a video of the damaged car, revealing the front end had been completely mangled in the collision.

    Nasboi escaped unharmed, crediting his survival to divine intervention.

    He vowed to continue the tour, having already knelt in seven states as a symbolic gesture to capture Davido’s attention.

    “Omo me I don’t even know, na laugh I just dey laugh. Because this is crazy, na to give up at this point. It’s crazy but we thank God nobody got harmed. No injuries at all”, he said.

    He captioned the post on Instagram writing: “Thank God for life. Few hours ago!! No injuries sustained, No single scratch. Now I’m thinking if I should stop or to continue”.

    Many people have urged him to stop the tour, citing safety concerns, while others encouraged him to push through. 

    Less than a week ago, he announced his unusual strategy to kneel across all Nigerian states, a symbolic plea aimed at getting Davido’s attention and collaboration, and had successfully knelt in seven states.
