Davido pens emotional tribute to Manager Asika on wedding day

Award-winning singer Davido has written a touching message to his longtime friend and manager, Asa Asika, in celebration of his wedding.

Reflecting on their journey together, Davido highlighted the strength of their bond, forged through years of shared challenges and triumphs.

He praised Asa’s unwavering loyalty, dedication, and commitment to their collective vision.

The singer also acknowledged the positive influence of Asa’s new wife, Leona, noting that she has brought out a more tender side of him.

He expressed gratitude to her for loving Asa genuinely.

“Asa, today shattered me… in the most beautiful way,” Davido wrote in the emotional tribute.

“Seeing you stand beside Leona, with peace in your eyes and love in your heart — I couldn’t hold it in. Not just because of the man you’ve become, but because of how you became him. Nothing was handed to us. We built this through fire, through faith, through a bond that never broke.

“We didn’t chase the spotlight. We stayed rooted. Loyal to our story, loyal to our people. We didn’t sell out — we carried the culture, even when it felt heavy. That’s why the blessings never left. Because we never left us behind.

“You’ve been more than my manager. You’ve been my shield. My sanity. My brother in every battle. When the lights were off and it got dark, you stayed. And even now, with the world at our feet — you’re still that same solid soul I started with.

“But Asa… since Leona came into your life, you’ve changed. You softened. You smiled more. You became a man at peace. And watching her see the real you — not the workhorse, not the machine — but you… that healed something deep in me too.

“Leona… thank you. For loving him the way we all hoped someone would. You didn’t just join the journey — you became its purpose. You brought him home to himself. I promise, as long as I breathe, I’ll protect what you two have built.

“This wedding… it’s not just love. It’s legacy. It’s proof that we can rise without losing our souls. That brotherhood can survive success. That culture can be kept, not just worn.

“We didn’t just make it, Asa. We made it our way. And standing next to you today, I feel something no award can give me.

“I feel home. Forever beside you, David.”

“You heard that it’s dangerous; that’s why you have to visit; you can’t keep hearing. That’s what they do, they show the bad parts and not the Bugattis. They don’t show the Ferraris , Rolls Royces, and private jets”.

He emphasised that Nigeria has its challenges but it’s not alone in this regard.

@ThePhysicsOfgod suggested that Davido’s statement might be a form of damage control after facing backlash for demarketing Nigeria in a previous interview.

“This must be damage control after being bashed for demarketing Nigeria in his other interview. Lagos has the best nightlife in the world ke,” he wrote.

@Onuohajude8, raised concerns about safety, warning that visitors might lose their phones or even their lives if they’re not careful.

@Here4buz questioned the purpose of Davido’s recent interviews, given the poor performance of his last album on the global charts.

I’m criticised because my father is rich – Davido

Award-winning singer Davido has opened up about facing intense criticism in Nigeria due to his wealthy upbringing.

The “OBO” crooner emphasised his passion for music, stating that nothing would have stopped him from pursuing his dreams, even if it meant facing challenges.

According to Davido, once you become a prominent figure, you can expect to face scrutiny and negativity.

He said: “I’m the biggest criticised artist in Nigeria. I mean, I’m on fire and I’ve been on fire for a while. In the beginning, they didn’t know that my dad was rich. So the stigma of a rich kid doing music didn’t end up as crazy as it should have been for me.

“People didn’t know my father was rich. It was too late, I already did three hit songs before they found out that my dad had money…

“But I just wanted to do music. I didn’t care if I had to become homeless. At that point, that was all I wanted to do. Nothing would stop me.
“Over time, people started hating me because my dad is rich. But I keep on dropping good music, and it keeps working out.

“It happens to everyone, once you become the biggest in anything, you will get criticised. You are doing an election, people love you and they vote for you. But when you become president, they hate you”.

I never imagined I will get this big, says Davido

Davido made this known in a recent chat with Apple Music during the promotion of his fifth album entitled ‘5ive.’

“Never imagined it here. Forget it. I’ll be lying to you. Never imagined it. So when things were just happening over time, we were just taking in the strides like, “Damn, this is getting lit.” We sold out 1,000. We sold out 2,000. Damn, we sold out 30, 40… Yeah, so it’s never really… I feel like every successful person that attains a great level of success can’t explain the feeling. You know what I’m saying?” he said.

Intensifying on the feeling, the father of four said, “I think just generally in life when good things are happening so quick, you don’t realize. I actually remember the first time I was sitting in front of my laptop opening Logic and sitting down like, “Damn, I want to make it. I actually want to be a musician. This is what I want to do,” he began.

Tour vlogs, so it’s like Soulja Boy vlogs, just people about just being popular and being a star. I used to watch all that stuff, so I saw it transition into reality for me. Do you understand?

“From the beginning, from showing my friends the culture, showing my friends like, “Come listen to this Nigerian music.” And then, actually falling in love with the genre, falling in love with music, knowing that my family’s not going to accept this, but I’ll still do it anyway, not knowing that I’ll be one of the ones to pioneer it.”
