Barcelona join race for Dele Alli

This week’s Sunday papers claim that Barcelona will try to lure Dele Alli to Camp Nou next summer, and they are keen for Mauricio Pochettino to come along too.

Tottenham’s 20-year-old hotshot and their star manager have both signed contract extensions in the past 12 months, and the club will be reluctant to let either – let alone both – leave White Hart Lane.

The Mirror report that Barcelona are ready to rival Real Madrid for the England international, with the Liga giants regarding Alli as one of their No1 targets ahead of next summer’s transfer window, with an offer reportedly nearing the £70million mark in the offing.
The defining games of Dele Alli’s career
But could Mauricio Pochettino go with him? Apparently so, according to the Star on Sunday.

Dele Alli faces three-match FA ban

Tottenham Hotspur player Dele Alli has been charged with violent conduct following his clash with West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob.

The England international is now facing a three-match suspension, which would rule him out of the rest of the season.

The news comes as a major blow to Tottenham’s already faint title hopes. Spurs’ draw against the Baggies means Leicester needs a maximum of three more points to be crowned champions.

The incident was missed by referee Mike Jones during the first half of Monday’s 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane. But TV footage of Alli appearing to throw a punch into Yacob’s stomach has since emerged and the FA has since decided to retrospectively charge the midfielder.

Eight players from Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur have been included in the Professional Footballers’ Association Premier League Team of the Year.

Jamie Vardy is one of the four players picked from league leaders Leicester, while Premier League top scorer, Harry Kane will lead three other Spurs players into the team, the BBC reports.

Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, a PFA Player of the Year nominee, missed out of the team.

The PFA had planned to reveal the team at its annual awards ceremony on Sunday but said it was forced to publish early because the details were leaked.

It blamed a member of the public for choosing “to deliberately leak our representative teams from the official brochure of the awards evening.”

The players’ representative body added: “As a matter of urgency, we are seeking a detailed explanation from the brochure printers as to how they were able to secure a copy of the publication.”

Kane has scored 24 league goals this season for Tottenham, who lies five points behind Leicester with four games remaining.

As well as Vardy, Wes Morgan, N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez are included from Leicester, while Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Dele Alli join Kane from Tottenham.

Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea, Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin and West Ham’s Dimitri Payet make up the rest of the team.
