Real ‘Gobbe’ begins among BBNaija housemates

…As five housemates are up for possible eviction

Just two weeks into the show, the slogan for this year’s edition of the ongoing Big Brother Naija, ‘See Gobbe’, a slang connoting commotion, is coming to bear, with the housemates now engaging in serious backstabbing, gossiping, outright confrontation and some perfidious strategy meant to edge one another out of the competition.

Reality of the game soon hit the housemates who had somewhat bonded so well in the first two weeks, when Soma and Miyonse were sacked from the show during last Monday’s live eviction show.

While the ladies shed tears crying out loud, the man showed signs of depression, but all that was for the night. By the next morning, they had warmed up for the next set of nominations which turned out quite surprising as Bassey, Bisola, CocoIce, Debie-Rise and Giftywere were announced as the housemates up for possible eviction.

With last Sunday’s eviction still fresh in their memories, the housemates have come to understand the rule of the game, as they took turns in the diary room to nominate two housemates each, whom they wanted out of the house.

First up was Bally. He delayed the use of his green advantage card and nominated Bisola and TTT. New comer Debie-Rise nominated Marvis and Bisola while Kemen nominated Bisola and TTT. Next was CocoIce, who nominated TTT and Bassey; with TBoss going with Marvis and Bassey. For Bassey’s first nomination, he picked CocoIce and Kemen while Uriel nominated CocoIce (no surprise there) and TTT. Gifty nominated Bassey and CocoIce; and Head of House (HoH) Efe went with TBoss and CocoIce. Finally, TTT nominated Debie-Rise and Gifty; and Marvis nominated CocoIce and Debie-Rise.

At the end of the nominations, ‘Biggie’ called out CocoIce, TTT, Bisola, Debie-Rise and Bassey as the housemates with the highest nominations. As expected, HoH Efe was called on to save one of the housemates and replace with another. In less than 20 seconds, Efe opted to save TTT and put up Gifty in his place.

Speaking on the show, Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria said: “The next few days will no doubt be intense as five housemates will do all it takes to secure their places in the competition”. He also added, “With as little as N1,800 you can join in on the Big Brother Naija experience which is available on all DStv packages and on GOtv Plus.”

The next eviction show holds on Sunday, February 12. And viewers in Nigeria are expected to text the word “Vote” followed by their preferred housemate’s name to 32052. While for the rest of Africa, fans are told to follow the AfricaMagictv official account on WeChat and click on the menu option ‘BBNaija’ and select their preferred housemate. Voting had opened at 21h00 WAT on Monday, February 6 and will close at 20h00 WAT on Saturday, February 11.

Sponsored by online retail store, PayPorte, the show is aired 24/7 in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on all DStvpackages on channel 198 and GOtv channel 29.

  • BBNaija: Soma, Miyonse go home

    BBNaija: Soma, Miyonse go home

Eviction hammer hits two of the housemates who were nominated for eviction Sunday evening. They are Soma and Miyonse.

But just before announcing the two who had the least number of votes from fans, Biggie played another pranks, which suggested the three were going home. Ebuka had asked them to leave the house, one after another. Efe was the first to be shown the door, followed by Soma and Miyonse. This brought tears to the eyes of, especially the ladies in the house. But they were only meant to gather in the holding room,  from where the real evictees were announced.

    Soma
    Soma

When Soma joined Ebuka on stage, he said he didn’t expect to leave that early, but guessed it so happened because he was a threat to most of the guys in-house.

He was shown a short clip of his activities in the house, especially his moments on the guitar.

He noted that there was nothing he did in the house that was a game, as he tried as much as possible to ‘keep it real’, including his kiss with Gifty, which he said happened unexpectedly.

All through his interview on stage with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, he was still emotional, fighting back tears.

A Pastor and Musician’s son and a good singer himself, Soma has opened for several high-profile acts. He was inspired by his mom who also encouraged him to pursue a career in Music. He’d started studying at Port Uni but decided to defer his studies and focus on Science when he resumes since he loves gadgets. He’s said to be in a long-distance relationship.

Miyonse, who was so sure of remaining in the house despite his nomination said he is very disappointed to have been evicted.

    Miyonse
    Miyonse

He said the guys nominated him because he was always around TBoss. He disclosed that his association with TBoss begun way before the Big Brother House.

He was eventually told by Ebuka that TBoss was among the guys that nominated him for eviction. As much as he tried to suppress his disappointment, he felt so uneasy, but agreed it was all about the game.

He said there was no problems going back to his girlfriend,  because she gave him her permission to play the game and keep it as real as possible. And as for TBoss, they will always be friends.

The last born in his family, Miyonse took to cooking by chance after his mother made sure that he spent time with her in the kitchen. That quickly led to him cooking for his schoolmates and before he knew it he was in Culinary School and today he’s head chef. He’s been in a relationship with his girlfriend, also a chef, for two months now. He hates being taken for granted.

With nine weeks to go in the reality show, the race for N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car continues for the remaining 12 housemates.

    BBNaija: Who goes home tonight

…As Seyi Shay performs at live eviction show

With the clock ticking towards the first real eviction of one or two Housemates in the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show, scheduled to hold this evening, there have been some uneasy feelings among the Housemates.

Last night’s party and its raunchy aftermath brought the contestants closer like never before, and some of them now wish they did not nominate the others for possible eviction.

Although Port Harcourt boy and music enthusiast, Soma, has shown little emotions about his nomination, just as TBoss’ ‘loverboy’, Miyonse, would not say much to his colleagues about what he thinks his chances might be, two times Head of House (HoH) and funny character, Efe, gave some parting words after being tipsy from last night’s party, just in case he is shown the door in tonight’s eviction. Efe would want them to see themselves as celebrities already for making it to the BBN house out of the thousands that were auditioned for the show. He said he had come to bond with every housemate so much that he forgot they were all in a game to win the N25 million prize money.

Meanwhile, when Biggie invited the trio to the Diary Room in separate chats, they were all optimistic that their fans would vote to keep them in the House.

Igwe Efe was the first Housemate summoned by Biggie, and though he admitted that he was anxious about the possibilities of going home tonight, he was also somewhat confident that he was not going to be evicted tonight.

Miyonse was called in next and he believes he had done enough to save himself from possible eviction tonight. He said he has been himself in the last two weeks and he felt that was enough to keep him in the House for atleast another week.

Soma had almost the same answer for Biggie when asked if he felt confident about his chances of avoiding eviction tonight. He would like to believe he has done enough to guarantee him a stay of eviction, but also admitted that he was a bit apprehensive about his chances of staying on in the Big Brother House.

Last night’s party which was powered by Legend Extra Stout, had DJ Waxxy treating the Housemates to a thrilling collection of old and new Nigerian songs. But that was more like a valedictory gig for whoever will be going home tonight.

For fans of the show who will be glued to their televisions for the much anticipated eviction show this evening, Nigeria’s very own Sheyi Shay will be on stage to thrill the audience with an electrifying performance before the eviction process commences.

  • How BBNaija contestants voted themselves for eviction

After last Sunday’s twists where two supposed evictees were pardoned  and the introduction of two new contestants, tension resumed Monday after three members were put up for possible eviction. They include the likeable Efe, amorous Miyonse and music devotee Soma.

It was the eighth day of the show and Biggie gave each housemate 45 seconds to make their nomination decision, leading to a gloomy feeling afterwards.

Only the two new housemates; Debbie-Rise and Bassey were exempted from nominating and being nominated.

Biggie kicked off the first live nomination show by calling Bally into the Diary Room. And there was no time wasted as Biggie asked Bally to give his two nominations in 45 seconds – same for the 11 other old housemates.

Bally voted out Miyonse and Soma; Bisola voted out Miyonse and Gifty; Kemen voted out Miyonse and Soma; TBoss voted out Miyonse and Gifty; TTT voted out Gifty and Miyonse; Uriel voted out Bisola and TBoss; Miyonse voted out Kemen and Marvis; Marvis voted out Miyonse and Gifty; Soma voted out Kemen and TTT; Gifty voted out CoCoIce and Bisola; Efe voted out Miyonse and TBoss while CoCoIce voted out Miyonse and Soma.

In all, eight housemates nominated Miyonse, including his presumed girlfriend, Tboss. Gifty got four nominations, while Soma ended up being the third housemates with the highest nominations with three nominations.

However, as is the tradition on the show, the Head of House must save one of the three and replace him or her. With the task of ‘save and replace’ rested on CocoIce as Head of House, she saved Gifty and replaced her with Efe.

The decision was shocking to most fans of the show who want Efe to remain in the competition for the prize of N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento car.

  • Debbie Rise, Bassey join BBN house, as mock eviction heightens emotion

Debbie Rise, Bassey join BBN house, as mock eviction heightens emotion

First runner-up in the third edition of Nigerian Idol, Debbie Rise and an actor, Bassey are the new additions to the Big Brother Naija house.

The two were introduced during a live show anchored by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Sunday.

It was mixed feelings for 10 of the old housemates, who were yet to get over the purported eviction of Marvis and TBoss who unknown to them were lounging in a separate apartment only to return to the main crib.

Feigning convulsion on seeing the exquisite house, Debbie Rise’s slumping entry alarmed the already troubled old housemates, as they tried to administer first aid treatment to this stranger who suddenly ‘came alive’, bursting into laughter.

The twist of additional housemates was Biggie’s idea and one that is meant to add intrigues to the show.

It was a sort of reunion for the former 12 and somewhat new beginning for the now 14 contestants.

Debbie Rise, a self-professed tomboy has been daddy’s little girl. Growing up, she’d help him out often and loved playing sports and staying active. He’s an electrical engineer and she studied Computer Science. Many will remember her as the melanin goddess that came in second on Nigerian Idol. She speaks both Yoruba and Hausa and is still as active as she was when she was young. From football, to dancing, to Taekwondo she’s a bonafide fitness freak with big dreams to take Nollywood by storm and isn’t afraid of being a little spicy and spontaneous.

    Bassey
    Bassey

Bassey on the other hand comes from a large family but sadly lost his mom eight years ago, something he says was a huge low point in his life. He learnt to fend for himself from a young age and later studied Theatre at The University of Calabar with Acting as his major. He’s single and believes professions of love that aren’t backed up by deeds are pointless. He loves interacting with other gifted people.

The 14 are playing for N25 million and a new Kia Sorento car.

Nominations for eviction begins in the new week, but the two new housemates are immuned, just as they are also not allowed to nominate any for possible eviction.

  • Bayelsa outlaws monarchs’ eviction

•Urges committee to stop payroll fraud

Bayelsa State government has ordered the arrest and prosecution of persons and groups involved in forceful removal of recognised chiefs and monarchs.

Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Kemasuode Wodu said the state would no longer allow youths to depose monarchs.

He said the Chieftaincy Law gives only the governor the power to remove a chief in line with due process.

“Any attempt to remove a duly-recognised chief or hold out any other person in place amounts to a criminal offence under sections 28n and 29 of the Chieftaincy Law Cap C4”, Wodu said.

An eight-member Local Government Service Commission has been sworn in to stop payroll fraud.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who performed the ceremony at the Government House, Yenagoa, stressed the need for the commission to tackle fraud and instil discipline in the local government system.

He said no council was viable because of fraudsters’ activities, which made payment of salaries and other financial obligations difficult.

Dickson said local governments enjoyed financial autonomy since the inception of his administration.

He urged the commission to collaborate with Caretaker Committee chairmen and other stakeholders to address the challenges facing local government administration.

Lamenting the challenges facing councils’ operations, the governor said his administration did not approve any employment since its inception in 2012, wondering why nominal rolls would increase.

He ordered the commission to sack those due for retirement, absentee-workers and persons illegally employed, saying the government lost over N1billion to ghost workers.

The commission Chairman is Adolphus Ofongo. Members are Mr. James Agari, Amakiri Etebu, Mr. George Okiriyan, Mr. Freedom Josiah-Osain, Mr. Berry Negresse, Dr. Mary John and Mr. Uroh Kiani

  • Landlord evict tenants for supporting APC

Landlord evict tenants for supporting APC

A landlord identified as Mr. David Agberemole has rendered at least 5 tenants in his house in Uzea Community in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State homeless for supporting the All Progressives Congress, APC against the People’s Democratic Party PDP.

The tenants, Mr Sylvester Chukwuemeka, Okosun Christiana and Ogbeide Elizabeth who lamented their ordeal said they have suffered untold hardship from their landlord for not supporting the PDP which the landlord was sympathetic to.

One of the tenants, Okosun Christiana who spoke in her native dialect (Esan) said, “We don’t have any problem, just party differences, he told us he wanted everyone in the house to support PDP, because he is a member of the party, but i refused.

“I told him that i have been in APC for a very long time that even if the PDP is buying me a car I prefer to remain in the APC, and he said since that is my stand; I should consider myself evicted from his house”. She explained.

Also speaking, another of the evicted tenants Sylvester Chukwuemeka revealed that his rents were up to date, adding that the action of their landlord negates the principle of fair play and justice just because they refused to support the PDP.

“I don’t understand why the landlord will just decide to drive us out of his house because we are not supporting PDP. I pay my rent regularly and this is not fair to me.

“The state government should come to our aid because I don’t know when it became a crime to support a party.”

Chukwuemeka called on relevant authority to come to their aid just as the Acting Executive Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Barr. Emmanuel Usoh has given the evicted tenants some bags of cement and money to build their own houses.

Efforts to get comments from the said landlord proved abortive, as family members at his residence said he traveled, but however confirmed that the evicted persons were previous tenants in the house.

  • Row over retirees’eviction from FAAN quarters

Row over retirees’eviction from FAAN quarters

Plans by the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), to evict retirees living in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN) quarters, Ikeja, Lagos has sparked a row, KELVIN OSA-OKUNBOR reports.

Crisis is brewing among residents of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) quarters in Ikeja, Lagos as plans by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to evict a former Director in-charge of Safety and Eletronic Services, Godfrey Eze; an engineer, as well as former General Manager, Administration, Alhaji Kolawole Moshood Jimoh, are generating misgivings.

Residents now live in fear as the quarters, also known as Strabag Estate, is becoming a battle ground between thugs allegedly hired by NAMA to  evict the retirees, who insisted that the agency had no proprietary right to evict them until all pending legal and administrative issues are resolved.

Last week, a  battery of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel belonging to Operation MESA was drafted to the quarters to dislodge thugs allegedly brought in by NAMA to enforce an order of eviction secured by the agency.

The heavily armed NAF personnel, who came in response to a distress call, hurried to the quaters to arrest some thugs carrying out wanton destruction of property in Eze’s apartment. They handed over the arrested thugs to the Nigerian Police.

But the thugs staged a comeback in an alleged collusion with the police, to continue their nefarious action.

However, the retirees said the agency could not evict them until pending issues are resolved with the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC).

The PIC is saddled with the task of  selling government apartments as part of the Monetisation Policy of Obasanjo’s administration.

Investigations revealed that the duo in the last few years had been in touch with the PIC on modalities for the sale of the said apartment.

The PIC, it was learnt, had sold Expression of Interest forms to the ex-NAMA personnel, as part of preliminary processes for onward sale of the apartments to them.

Sources hinted that surveyors and valuers from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing visited the apartments some years ago to carry out valuation and assessment of the buildings. However, NAMA management has declined to comment on the matter.

Speaking in an interview, Godfrey Eze, an engineer, who was relieved of his job from NAMA as Director incharge of Safety and Electrnonic Services, between December 2005  and February 2009, said the agency was unfair in its attempt to evict him from the quarters because issues surrounding his ouster have not been fully addressed.

He said he was directly engaged by NAMA, but became a member of staff of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on secondment to the airspace agency.

Eze said he challenged his ouster from the agency many years ago in court.

He said the agency is yet to pay his gratutity despite a ruling by the Federal High Court, Lagos.

The refusal of the agency to pay his entitlements and other matters related to deductions from his salary, while in service as part of the Monetisation Policy on the apartment, he said, needs to be thoroughly looked into.

Eze said: “NAMA tried to evict me in 2013, but the move was resisted because there was no eviction notice from a competent court  or the Police and court bailiff. For a matter that is yet to be fully decided by the court, the action so far taken by NAMA management amounted to taking laws into its hands.”

While, the furore generated by the matter was yet to settle last week,  crisis broke out at the quarters, forcing some residents to scamper for safety.

Thugs allegedly hired by NAMA invaded Eze’s residence to evict occupants.

On August 6, 2016, when  thugs raided Eze’s apartment, he was attending an exhibition in Abuja.

Investigations revealed that the said thugs broke the wall at the back of the building to gain entrance; shattered the windows and threw out his property.

Eze told The Nation: “My family has been traumatised since August 5, 2016 and August 8, 2016 when thugs hired by NAMA management invaded my apartment at FAAN quarters. They damaged my property, ramsacked the entire house, stole huge sums of money, jewelries and other valuables.

“From my assessment, the thugs stole from my house N2,500 Euros, $1,600 and N250,000  as well as my wife’s jewelry. They also stole some yet be be determined foreign currencies belonging to my son, who is an instructor at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.

” I was in Abuja  when their operation took place, my wife and son were the people at home. The thugs knocked, they did not open the door for them, they then decided to break in.

“When I arrived from Abuja,  I drove to the Domestic Police Station at Ikeja, to report the incident. I even called the Managing Director of NAMA, Anyasi, about what his people had done. But he did not  respond, I sent series of short messages  services ( SMS). I have written a petition to the Commissioner of Police, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 2, on this matter. I am still challenging this matter in court, and will not give up, no matter what NAMA management is up to, until the matter is resolved by the highest court in the land.

“I have taken this step because the rulings of other courts on this matter are not satisfactory. One of the courts ruled that NAMA should pay my gratuity, but, as I speak to you, it has not done that,” Eze said.

He said efforts by the Police to resolve the matter over the years have not yielded any positive result. “I am convinced the police are becoming interested party in this matter,” he said.

He said his position was predicated on the way police officials handled the matter after he reported the incident. “The Police sent their officials to investigate the wanton destruction of the  house. But, I was surprised that the same police came up to say that NAMA had reported a matter against me,” he said.

He went on: “But, what has become intriguing is that after I reported the matter to the police  and an investigative officer was assigned to ascertain my claims of property destruction, and stolen money and other valuables, two female police officers were assigned, they drove with me to the house to take photographs  on the activities of the thugs brought in by NAMA.

“I was asked to report to the station next day only to be told that NAMA management had reported a case of assault and property damage against me. I was taken to a Magistrate Court in Agege and arraigned on a  four-count charge.

“The judge granted me bail, but because I could not meet the conditions, they took me to Kirikiri, only to be released the next day. My position on this matter is clear: once the Supreme Court rules that I do not have a case, I am ready to vacate the apartment. But, any form of imtimidation by NAMA to evict me without a valid court notice will not see the light of the day.”

On his part, the former General Manager, Administration, Alhaji Moshood Kolawole Jimoh, who left NAMA on February 6, 2015, has faulted the “illegality” exhibited by the agency.

He was also arrested and arraigned along with Eze for assault of NAMA personnel and destruction of property.

He said: “What NAMA  management has done is contrary to the position of government as it affects the sales of quarters to sitting civil servants as tenants. While in service, I was involved in this matter as clerk on behalf of NAMA in the programme monitored by the Presidential Implementation Committee on the sales of operational quarters. The PIC never supported what NAMA management has done. Many years ago, the PIC issued forms for expression of interest to some residents. They sent their officials and captured us, inspected the houses and we were  only waiting for the letter of award of bid to buy the houses. For NAMA management to throw up charges against us and the police colluding with them is unacceptable.”

In a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Retired Civil Servants of Aviation Parastatals , in FAAN quarters otherwise known as Strabag Estate, have complained about threats by the heads of the aviation agencies: FAAN, NAMA and  NCAA) to evict them.

The petition signed on their behalf by Catherine Ahuruchi, said plans to evict them are in total disregard of a pending suit and court injuction in the Federal Industrial Court, Lagos.

The petition dated June 30, 2016 reads: “Commissioner, you may recall our earlier letters and discussions with you as legal sitting tenants at FAAN quarters. We have filed a suit against the agencies, which is pending in the Federal Industrial Court,  Lagos, over the refusal of some of the agencies to implement monetisation policy of government in residential quarters.

“You may also wish to note that the  Justice of the Federal Industrial Court has since issued  injuction restraining the agencies and their agents from evicting or disturbing us in any form until substantive suit is determined. You will remember that FAAN, NAMA and  NCAA had been in the habit of issuing quit notices and harrassing our retired officers with threats of seizure of their retirement benefits until the then Commissioner of Police intervened

“We will resist any attempt to evict any of our members illegally or without court order. We will resist any attack by thugs or hoodlums on us in self defence should they resort to use of force and this may lead to break down of law and order in the estate. Our prayer is that you prevail on the agencies not to take laws into their hands,” they said.

A senior official of NAMA, who confided in The Nation said NAMA has taken steps to recover government property from retired personnel who are hanging on to legal technicalities.
