Obasanjo gave the commendation in Abeokuta during a special prayer session organised for Amosun to mark his 56th birthday.

The former President noted that things were much better in Ogun state, saying ”This event is a testimony of what God has done in your life and what he has made you to achieve in the state since you assumed office.

“As far as infrastructure is concerned, you are doing marvelously well.”

He also commended the state Executive Council for working with the governor as a team “otherwise you will be going in different direction and if the house is not in order, the governor will not have peace of mind.”

Speaking on behalf of the EXCO members, Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, described Amosun as an agent of change.

“It is an exceptional privilege to serve under him. His passion and commitment to add genuine value to Ogun state is commendable and he is a committed statesman who is ready to make a change.”

  • Ekiti APC gets interim executive

    Ekiti APC gets interim executive

The Interim National Vice-Chairman (Southwest) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, inaugurated yesterday the Ekiti State APC Interim Executive Committee.

The ceremony was held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The five-man committee is chaired by Chief Olajide Awe.

Other members are Mr. Abiodun Ogunleye (Secretary); Alhaji Azeez Awolokun (Treasurer); Mrs. Nike Olaosebikan (Public Relations Officer) and Chief Dele Falusi (Organising Secretary).

The committee will be in office pending the holding of congresses at the ward, local government and state levels, where substantive executives would be elected.

Governor Kayode Fayemi described the constitution of the committee as “another critical point in the making of a party formed to rescue Nigerians from a journey without maps and a directionless movement”.

Fayemi said the committee will guide the Registration Committee, which would be sent from the National Secretariat to oversee the registration of members in the next two weeks.

He said the registration of members was important to strengthen the party and prepare for the governorship poll.

Fayemi said: “This is critical because the governorship election will hold in June and the earlier this exercise is completed the better for us. We want it wrapped up before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) blows the whistle in March, which is about 90 days before the election.

“We are happy that Ekiti State is the first place where the interim executive has been put in place and this EXCO will take charge of the party, pending the holding of congresses at the ward, local government and state levels before the national congress.”

He expressed satisfaction that the party has successfully integrated members of the three legacy parties that merged into APC.

Fayemi urged members to work harder to improve the party, adding that

APC has created unit level in its constitution to give the party grassroots appeal.

Adebayo described the role of the committee as advisory, urging it to assist the registration panel that will be coming from the party’s national secretariat to succeed in its assignment.

After consultations, Chukwu said he was stepping down for Ogbeche in the spirit of inclusion.

On the decree setting up the NTDC, Alabi said the NTDC Decree of 1992 was obsolete and needs urgent review. He called on the FTAN to improve on its liaison with the members of the National Assembly for it to be amended.

In his acceptance speech after the election, Chief Tomi Asigbogun called on members to support the new FTAN executive. He promised that the FTAN shall continue to work with media and government agencies to encourage Nigerians to patronize domestic tourism products.

He also said FTAN would continue ‘to push for development and expansion of Nigerian Domestic tourism products; the situation as we have it leaves a potential tourism investor with inadequate information as to areas of tourism products needing investment. • Chime set to reshuffle exco

    •Fear grips Enugu commissioners

    •House clears five names

There is tension among commissioners in Enugu State, following an impending reshuffle.

The House of Assembly has cleared five names submitted to it for verification and clearance by Governor Sullivan Chime.

The governor did not dissolve the cabinet before submitting names to the House, thus fuelling speculations.

A Government House source said only the governor knows those to be dropped in what he called “cabinet reshuffle”.

Many of the commissioners, particularly those who were unsure of their performance, have started lobbying for retention.

They reportedly approached some traditional rulers and the governor’s relatives.

The source said: “The governor had made up his mind on those to drop; no lobbying can stop the exercise.”

The impending cabinet reshuffle, it was learnt, is not unconnected with the roles some of the commissioners played while the governor was away on a health-related vacation.

The source added: “The governor is not used to sacking his aides but in this situation, he is being compelled to drop some of them due to poor performance.”

It was also gathered that those affected would be formally informed during today’s executive council meeting.

To be affected in a similar exercise later would be some special advisers and assistants, the source further hinted.
