  • Fayemi asks supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation

The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation has praised members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Tuesday’s successful mega rally rounding off open campaigns for Saturday’s governorship election.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, thanked party leaders, members and supporters for the massive turnout at the rally.

The statement urged members not to be carried away by Tuesday’s successful outing, but should immediately relocate to their communities and constituencies to mobilise voters for the Saturday election.

The statement said leaders are already holding meetings to make provisions for all that will be required to have a hitch-free election.

  • Fayemi: Is a new dawn imminent in Ekiti?

In this piece, Prince Diran Aladesanmi examines the issues that will shape next Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. You cannot have your cake and eat it and it is only possible to give what you have. A common slogan says that the journey of a thousand kilometers starts with a step and that exceptionally important step was displayed at the recently concluded APC party primary in Ekiti, which led to the emergence of Dr Kayode Fayemi as the flag bearer for the 2018 Ekiti gubernatorial election slated for July 14. Ekiti people as a matter of urgency and conviction must cultivate the mindset that greatness is not given but earned and earning this all important virtue requires commitment and doggedness.

In contemporary Nigeria politics, people tends to assume the confidence that political actors in the forefront of seeking various political offices  through people’s vote, most of the time, end up not having anything to offer in return for such votes. Be that as it may and as tenable as this assertion is of some politicians, there are still handful of personalities in the political terrain, who are apostle of virtue of integrity and by sheer courage and commitment to a just cause, have shown that they are promise keepers, when it comes to fulfilling electioneering campaign promises made to the electorates. This class of people have exhibited overtime, the stuff they are made of by excelling in various responsibilities thrust upon them in the past and are still eager of contributing more to national development in any capacity they might find themselves.  John Kayode Fayemi, an amiable grass-root person, a dogged fighter of the right of common man, a role model that transcend party politics, a statesman of an unequalled dexterity for excellence and an accomplished administrator, no doubt belong to this class of politician.

The good people of Ekiti at home and in diaspora know and will always give credence to what this patriot and highly principled man whose word is his bound can offer in terms of bringing dividends of democracy and succor to his fellow citizens through unparalleled good stewardship. Dr Fayemi may be seen by some as a controversial politician perhaps due to his fearlessness on issues that touch on the destiny of our dear Ekiti State, however, majority and well-  meaning citizens of the state see him as a no- nonsense personality who is always at the vanguard of the masses welfare .He is that politician who is ever ready to put his life on the line for the common good of the under-privileged Ekiti person majority of who have been enslaved for the in the last few years by a crude system of government holding the jugular of the  state.

Fayemi, in his characteristic manner believed that the time might be hard and despairing, the challenge must be a springboard upon which to erect a new super structure for Ekiti. According to JKF, our common-wealth and resources might have been wantonly depleted before now, but there are more latent human and material resources waiting to be harness and husbanded by putting them into better use for the general good of all in Ekiti. Furthermore, this quintessential politician of unquestionable pedigree when the issue of good governance is involved continue unabated to opine at all available fora, that the resilience of the Ekiti people, their bustling energies and peerless creativity portend a glorious future given the right leadership. Now that the coast is cleared and the vessel is set to navigate to a safe harbor, a man with requisite credentials when it comes to political re-engineering and ingenuity like Fayemi is the only way out of the current doldron we find ourselves in Ekiti State. This is the time to jettison pre-modial sentiments by giving our unwavering support to a tested and trusted personality to pilot the affairs of our great state to the next level of sustainable development in all its ramification. This is also the time to be prepared to take our destiny in our own hands by standing behind the candidacy of Dr Fayemi, who is at all times prepared to serve the aggregate interest of all and sundry in Ekiti State.

Over time, Ekiti has suffered in the hands of individuals who get to power for selfish agenda rather than the common good of the majority. The current economic retrogression, political rascality and lingering state of insecurity in the land with its attendant ills cannot be allowed to continue to ravage our hope of a state where things work for the overall interest of all and sundry. John Kayode Fayemi a political icon with an unblemished record for transparency and good stewardship will correct all these anomalies if given the mandate to once again take the driver seat as far as governance in Ekiti is concern.

For every ending, there is a new beginning and for every memory, there is a dream ahead. According to Fayemi, confronting the current drift and stagnation in Ekiti State socio-political and economic fronts requires a proper leadership armed with an appreciable discipline, prudence and a strong political will. Someone who will put an end to the prevailing idleness and endemic system collapse characterised by corruption of all shades and impunity bedeviling us as a state. In the words of the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, “It is far more dignified to confront the creatures of hell than exist in a fool’s paradise.” There is therefore the need for all of us in Ekiti to wake up from our slumber by putting square pegs in square holes through our votes for Fayemi on the 14th day of July 2018 with the sole aim of heralding the Ekiti of our collective dream.

Fayemi, a personality familiar with dynamics of leadership, whose passion for excellence remains unequalled in the annals of government business in Nigeria and beyond , a prudent manager of men and resources, an astute technocrat of impeccable records of accomplishment remains a character who is very willing and adequately prepared to put in place in his second coming as Governor of Ekiti State the foundation of an enduring democratic process that is devoid of temporary show of excitement and manipulation of an over-articulate section of the elites and its captive audience at the expense of the majority. This rare gem and a great son of Ekiti had repeatedly said that he would want to live the rest of his life for history by means of beneficent and selfless service to humanity in general and to the good people of Ekiti state in particular. This is a rare feat. JKF, a man of his words meant every bit of that statement.  He remain a political figure that have over the years exemplify excellence and transparency in both his public and private life. A man whose value for diligence, hard work, vision and focus leadership is legendary. Little wonder that he is been referred to as a man with the Midas touch by his admires as whatever he touches always translate to resounding success.

Good people of Ekiti, another golden opportunity is staring us in the face at the forth-coming gubernatorial election and we as citizen of this great state must grab it with both hands. Let us pick the gullet and hit the ground running knowing fully well that a statesman of note like Fayemi can once again make things work in Ekiti. For the labour of our heroes past not to be in vain, our unalloyed support for JKF at the poll next month is not negotiable. Fayemi a rare breed with an uncommon zeal to make Ekiti State a model among its peers, has always and unequivocally maintained at different fora that, for the state to attain its fully potentials, there is need for dynamic, visionary, pragmatic, experienced and purposeful leadership in order to consolidate on recorded gains and decisively chart the course for tackling contemporary challenges of renewable and sustainable development. This in all modesty is the propelling factor of JKF incursion into partisan politics and has thus fired his imagination to serve.

To fix the despairing state of affairs in our dear Ekiti state, positive leadership based on skill and experience with consideration for balance remain the best potion and the only way out. With Kayode Fayemi leadership endowment, amiability as well as Ekiti electorates unflitching support for this man of destiny at the gubernatorial poll in July, the sky will not only be the limit but also the beginning for complete restoration of hope for all Ekiti. While this un-relented promoter of quality leadership by example is eager to set in motion agenda for unfettered economic development restoration and broadly shared prosperity as against the current trend of enriching very few privileged ones at the expense of the majority, it is also expected  that  Ekiti electorates give their total support and have abiding faith in John Kayode Fayemi leadership ability and approach to governance for the attainment of our desired goal of being one of the most developed state in Nigeria.

At this point of our history as a state and to actualise the goals set by our founding fathers, launching into the future with a renewed vigor and hope to secure a better tomorrow should inform our political decisions in Ekiti State. Fayemi, a leader who loathes timorousness, vanity, sloth and dissipation but cherishes the virtue of intrepidity, charity, integrity and above all, an advocate of an egalitarian society remains out best bet and right potion that can guarantee a roboust socio-political and economic prosperity for Ekiti.  Finally, Ekiti electorates are advised to make their choice of candidate for the exalted office of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State at the poll in July 2018 through achievable manifestos, altruism of the candidates based on their antecedent and character both in public and private domain over the years as well as experience on the job thus saving Ekiti people bitter experience of the past when elected officials use people’s mandate given to them for self-aggrandizement.

A vote for Fayemi at the poll next month is a vote for progress, purposeful, dynamic, people oriented leadership, human and infrastructural development as well as prudence and accountability in the affairs of our dear Ekiti State. As election in Ekiti beckons, we wish ourselves the very best by electing through our votes John Kayode Fayemi as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State so as to turn the state’s despair to hope, melancholy to victory, lack to abundance, defeat to triumph and greed to selflessness.

  • Okada riders get free fuel from Fayemi

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Dr. Kayode Fayemi  yesterday provided free petrol to commercial motorcycle riders in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The supply of free fuel was launched at Mobil Petrol Station on Ikere Road in Ajilosun, with the riders forming long queues to benefit from the gesture.

Many of the beneficiaries decorated their bikes with the posters of Fayemi. They got five litres of fuel each in the scheme which continues on Tuesday.

The filling station was besieged by the riders as soon as the news spread that free fuel was being supplied at the outlet.

The APC candidate urged the riders not to collect transport fare from the commuters they would be conveying.

Fayemi’s appearance at about 10.45 am turned the filling station to a carnival as the riders hailed his gesture and recalled what he did for their unions during his first tenure.

The APC candidate urged the riders to ignore the allegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) camp that he would ban commercial motorcycle operations, if he wins the July 14 poll. Fayemi said rather than banning the okada business, he would give the operators more incentives, including soft loans, equipment and provide good roads to aid their operation.

  • EKITI 2018: Oshiomole, Kalu, APC Govs woo voters for Fayemi

More All Progressives Congress (APC) bigwigs arrived Ekiti State on Monday to woo voters for the candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll.
The APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole; former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Kalu; Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) were the latest arrivals to give support to Fayemi.
National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande and former National Vice Chairman (Southwest) Chief Pius Akinyelure had earlier arrived on Sunday.
Tinubu, Akande and other party elders were billed to participate in a road show originally scheduled for the day but it was cancelled based on security advice from the Police High Command.
Oshiomhole led the APC team to canvass for votes of labour unions led by former state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Ayodeji
    Aluko for Fayemi.
Kalu led the delegation that met with the leaders of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo where he sought the support of the large Igbo population in Ekiti for Fayemi at a separate meeting.
The three governors-Amosun, Akeredolu and Bagudu-were present at the parley held with the Igbo.
Oshiomhole, former National President of the NLC, assured Ekiti workers that Fayemi was not seeking a return to the state number one seat to seek vengeance but to make a positive difference in government and better their welfare.
The former Edo State governor said the APC will win the election not by intimidation but based on past records of Fayemi’s government in the state
Oshiomhole said: “Our task as labour leaders is not to agonize but to have the will to fight; I have not come to lament that Fayose has not paid workers. I have come to give guarantee to the workers of Ekiti that their welfare will be priority to us.
“Fayemi knows that if he doesn’t perform especially for workers, I will box him from Abuja. Don’t be afraid, I am behind you and I will get whatever due for you from Dr Fayemi if you convince your people to give him the votes”.
Kalu, during the forum with the Igbo said Fayemi has promised to give financial supports to their businesses if elected governor, the way he did in his first term.
He urged them to discountenance the hate speeches being peddled around by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), labeling APC as anti-Igbo and Islamic party, describing these as attempts to smear the image of the party.
Kalu said Fayemi remains the only person that can bring Ekiti out of
squalor, saying the present governor, Mr  Ayodele Fayose shouldn’t be
allowed to impose whom he described a ‘cowboy’ on the people.
The former Abia governor said Fayemi is more experienced, exposed and has a better pedigree in governance than the PDP candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.
Kalu said: “You have to vote for a man that is better equipped for the job. Don’t listen to the rumour that APC is an Islamic party.
“When President Muhammadu Buhari came, he inherited a massively looted economy. The PDP people were just going to the Central Bank of Nigeria to collect money on the order of the then President.
“You know what it means for the CBN to be looted and that was why we experienced the economic recession when Buhari came and today we are out of it.
“APC remains the best party for Ndigbo. I cannot be bribed by anybody to deceive you. I would rather die than to deceive you because we are one.
“President Buhari did the second Niger Bridge. He had also awarded many road contracts in the Southeast. Did former President Olusegun Obasanjo, late Umaru Yar’Adua and Dr Goodluck Jonathan did all these?
“President Buhari might not have given us many appointments, but he had performed for the Southeast in terms of facilities and public utilities.
“If President Buhari is bad, I will be the first person to expose him. Please, vote for APC in this election. Make sure you spread the gospel and you will never regret it.
“He has promised to give you appointments in governments and give you other supports and I know the promise shall be fulfilled.”
Fayemi pledged to treat the Igbo and the workers with dignity and honour if given the chance, promising to fulfill all pledges made to these groups if given the mandate to govern Ekiti again.
  • Fayemi warns troublemakers to leave Ekiti

•APC candidate to clear salary arrears in six months

Ekiti State All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Dr. Kayode Fayemi has warned  troublemakers enlisted to cause mayhem at Saturday’s election to leave “in their own interest.”

He vowed that any individual who plans to foment trouble and prevent eligible voters from exercising their civic rights at the poll will be arrested and made to face “the full weight of the law.”

The APC flag bearer said intelligence report has revealed that some individuals are sewing uniforms of the Department of State Services (DSS), Army and Police to be used illegally at the election.

Fayemi assured eligible voters of adequate and maximum security saying they should not exercise any fear and apprehension at the election.

Fayemi’s warning came on the heels of the alleged arrival of suspected militants from one of the Niger Delta States and other hoodlums camped in secret locations ahead of the election.

The former Minister of Mines and Steel Development said, if elected governor, he will get a moratorium of six months to clear the backlog of salaries owed workers between six and nine months.

Fayemi, who spoke at a special interview programme on Voice 89.9 FM on Saturday monitored by our reporter said Ekiti found itself in a sorry state because of “unseriousness in governance.”

The former governor said Governor Ayo Fayose has received many financial reliefs from President Muhammadu Buhari administration, adding he has no reason to be owing workers.

He listed the financial lifelines to include the first tranche of bailout cash of N4 billion, the second tranche of bailout of N8.9 billion, the Paris Club refund cash twice and the Budget Support Fund of N1.3 billion for thirteen months.

He said, he is in the race “to rescue Ekiti from its arrested development” and put an end to hardship being experienced by the people.

Warning potential troublemakers, Fayemi said: “I want to assure prospective voters that Ekiti will be safe, it will be secure, there will be maximum security for this election.

“Our people should go about their business in peace and they should not be threatened. They should not feel harassed by all we are hearing from those who don’t want free and fair electoral process.

“We are aware (of this) and every information that we get, we pass it to security agencies. I will like to advise those busybodies who have found their way into Ekiti to leave our state.

“In your interest, it is in their ultimate interest to even leave unannounced before the election because they will face very severe punishment.

“The maximum weight of the law will be brought on their head and we will kill an ant with a sledgehammer in this election. In their own

interest, they should just leave Ekiti because they have no business with the election in Ekiti.

“But if you are in Ekiti legitimately you have nothing to fear. Those who are sewing DSS uniform, military uniform, police uniform, they will be shocked.

He aded: “All of them will be arrested and they will not only be arrested, they will end up being forgotten in jail. That is my advice to them.

“But for our people, our people are naturally law abiding, our people want this opportunity to exercise the rights. They don’t want to be disenfranchised.

“That is why so much noise is being made about the purported cloning and collection of PVCs, recording of VIN numbers that Fayose and his ilk are promoting.

“We will not let them subvert this process; this election will hold and it will hold freely, it will hold fairly, it will be credible, it will be transparent and result will be produced.”

  • Ekiti 2018: Ekiti has no alternative to Fayemi – Running mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate for the July 14  election in Ekiti State, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, has said the electorate must kill the continuity agenda being touted by Governor Ayodele Fayose for Ekiti regain its integrity and fasttrack development to the state.

Egbeyemi said the people of Ekiti must vote for Dr Kayode Fayemi in the coming election, if the dream of making the state to be economically viable and progress in all spheres to be realized.

Egbeyemi spoke at a rally organized by Ekiti Kete Good Citizen Association(EKGCA) in Ado Ekiti on Saturday to drum support for APC

and sensitize the people on the heed to jettison Fayose’s candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola in the election.

The President of the group, Mr. Ayodeji Babatola, said the group would mobilize the people across the 2,195 on the need to support Fayemi/Egbeyemi ticket  that would bring radical development to the state.

The APC candidate’s running mate said: “We are happy seeing youths like you embracing our candidacy for this election.

“We pray that Fayemi is voted for to become our governor in this state to rescue us from poverty. Our state must develop and I know someone

of Fayemi’s standing will always think of how our state can develop.

“He can’t embezzle or mismanage our money,  because he is exposed and has integrity.

“We must work hard to ensure that our party wins. Let me tell you this, Fayemi is ready to accommodate body. With what we have now,

every Ekiti indigene wants APC to triumph.

“But as you continue to back our candidacy, we want you to be peaceful and ensure that you conduct yourselves in orderly manner, because what we stand for is the unity of the State”, he stated.

Babatola  lamented that the PDP years of misrule under Fayose has slowed down the progress and development of the State, saying time

has come for the people to take their destinies in their own hands.

“We have this July 14 opportunity to redefine our future as a people. This time, we need a governor that will elevate the people through

human capital development. We need a governor that will stop treating people  in a beggarly manner, the way Fayose has been doing.

“We need a governor that won’t put Ekiti in his pocket. We need a governor that will treat workers with dignity by paying salaries as and when due and also incorporate youth employment into governance.”

Babatola  said what Ekiti witnessed under Fayose was alleged massive looting of the public treasury, saying the people won’t make a mistake by voting for the PDP in the impending poll.

“The only legacy Fayose has is the flyover. But we had found out that the flyover was supposed to cost N6.2 billion but we later realized that a whooping sum of N17.2 billion. So, PDP has no reason to retain Ekiti considering the way it has run the state down in all facets”, he added.

  • Why Fayemi must return as governor -Ajisola

Babatunde Ayodedeji Ajisola is the Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. In this interview with Adeniyi Adewoyin, he speaks on why Dr. Kayode Fayemi will return as Ekiti Governor among other issues.

WITH your wide experience in politics, how will you describe the candidature of Kayode Fayemi as the governorship aspirant in the coming election?

It is a good development and worthy step in restoring good governance into our prestigious state. Though there was contention at the primary, but the party was able to handle the situation. The APC UK is happy about the development and I am personally delighted too. I want the entire state to support Dr. Kayode Fayemi’s governorship ambition and ensure he returns as the next governor through their votes.

The total development of Ekiti is what concerns all of us and we must all rise to support a visionary leader and I am confident that Fayemi has what it takes to make the state greater. Fayose, his party, PDP, and the candidate, Kolapo Olusola, have nothing to showcase in the last three-and-half years. The projects being enjoyed by the people were the ones he (Fayemi) executed in his first tenure.

His projects like civic centres, health centres, five kilometer community roads, school and hospital renovations are flagship projects that will swing votes in APC’s favour. He has also promised that all the human capital development policies like payment of monthly stipends to the aged, free health services, free education, payment of WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and JAMB fees for pupils in public schools will return the moment an APC government takes over in October.

Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) assisted projects, employment through Peace Corps, Ekiti Traffic Management Agency (EKSTMA), return of Core Subject Allowances and Rural Teachers’ Allowances, regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensioners’ benefits and the special health intervention programme for Obas and Chiefs tagged “Ilera Laafin,” Local Council Development Areas, Volunteer Corps scheme, among others will also return. I strongly believe Ekiti people desire all these and so will vote APC.

What about talks of the people being scared Fayemi will sack workers if elected?

I want to debunk the PDP allegation that he would sack teachers and civil servants. Workers enjoyed salary increase three times during his first tenure. Fayose is owing core civil servants, local government workers and teachers between five and nine months salaries. This is regrettable. It is shameful that no worker had collected any salary meant for this 2018 as we speak.

It is funny that this current government and the PDP are calling themselves friends of civil servants and teachers and still owing them arrears of salaries despite getting financial reliefs from the Federal Government. PDP will meet its waterloo on election day as Ekiti people who had been deceived will show the umbrella party the way out of

the Government House. We urge party members and voters to go back to their units and work because election is not won on the social media but at the polling units.

Let’s deal with them (PDP) with our votes, we are going to give them a bloodied nose with our votes on July 14 because Fayemi of today is different from that of yesterday. If the PDP people come here, they have nothing to campaign with and that is why they are resorting to lies but they have exhausted their lies. Go to your units, vote and protect your votes. Election is not done on Facebook, Twitter or WhatsApp, the votes are at the polling units.

How will you describe the political atmosphere abroad, especially as politics in Nigeria has begun to gather momentum?

Politics in Nigeria is not really different from the Diaspora. We have the positions too. But the APC is on ground as well as following the trend of things. We give kudos to our great leader of the party, Chief Bola Tinubu. Personally, I have known him from my student union days; we have had interactions on several occasions and I respect him for who he is and the tremendous things he is ding to make the party succeed despite all its challenges.

He is a progressive leader that is worthy of emulation. I deliberately aligned with the party even when I relocated abroad, because of its philosophy. The party has been doing great under the leadership of the chairman APC UK, Dr Philip Idaewor, who is a member of the APC Convention Planning Committee, and his deputy, honourable Tunde Doherty. APC UK has been doing everything to ensure the Buhari-led government is fully represented and most importantly to counter positions and sponsored movement against President Buhari and the party.

I want to state categorically that there is no division in APC United Kingdom under the leadership of Dr Philip Idaewor. The excos and members are full behind him. Though there is a particular person element causing trouble. We have decided to ignore them, because we don’t want to be distracted from moving the party forward. I repeat no faction in the party in UK.

Are you satisfied with the way Nigerian politics is going?

We are definitely growing and we are going to get there. We don’t have to rush things. There is the need to have a collective development. We must not take community development with a levity. We need to give a lot of sacrifices to develop our immediate environment, community and the nation at large. People get more involved in politicking abroad and there are a lot of party activists, which are rear in Nigeria.

How has life been aside politics?

It has been interesting, though I had to start life afresh when I got to the UK, because everything was completely different. There were lots of volunteering opportunities and I volunteered with Bedfordshire Police and Green House Mentoring, which trained me on how to mentor youths, as a result of this and other commitments within the community, I was nominated as an Olympic torch bearer during the London 2012 Olympics. I am an IT Consultant and I consult with her Majesty’s Government at the cabinet office at the moment. I love my football and I am a qualified referee.

I am a proudly son of Ekiti and I am interested in the development of my home country. My visitation has been planned in the last two years and it has no link to political ambition. In fact, I did not only visit my ward, I also made a formal visit to the APC party secretariat in Ajilosun, Ekiti, where I was received by the party secretary, on behalf of the APC Ekiti in the UK to show our support for the governorship election.

  • Fayemi condemns holiday for PDP rally

The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation has criticised Governor Ayodele Fayose for declaring yesterday a public holiday to draft civil servants to PDP campaign rally.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, Wole Olujobi, slammed the governor for turning Ekiti State to a jungle where decent behaviour has no place in political conduct.

“It is regrettable that Fayose is everyday painting Ekiti State in his own image of incredulity where decent conduct is thrown overboard for political expediency.

“For declaring holiday today for workers to attend a political rally, besides subjecting Ekiti State to  ridicule among Nigerians, that decision shows clearly that Fayose has lost the support of his party members, thousands of whom defected to APC in recent times over alleged greed, indecent conduct and selfishness.

“The choice of the venue of the rally on a major highway is instructive, as it became clear that he would not be able to muster enough crowds that would not betray him as a spent politician.”

  • Fayemi meets workers, artisans, others

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has allayed fears over the rumour that he plans to sack workers, saying that as a worker-friendly leader, he will never pursue policies that will cost Ekiti people their livelihoods.

He made the clarification yesterday at interactive sessions with religious associations, Timber Traders Organisation, Tippers Owners/Drivers Association, NLC, NUT and artisans, among other groups.

They in turn pledged their support for him in the July 14 election.

At interactive meetings in various sessions in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, they said the confidence they had in Fayemi informed their decision to participate in the sessions to listen to his campaign messages and present their own demands.

Timbers association members thanked the APC candidate for the right environment he created for their business between 2010 and 2014 when Fayemi was governor, saying that the gesture informed their decision to support him.

They also thanked him for donating a bus to them as a mark of recognition, regretting, however, that the present administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose punished them for supporting Fayemi in 2014.

They vowed to support Fayemi despite victimisation, even as the association warned members not to submit their voter cards to the Government House as allegedly being demanded by the governor.

  • INEC chief to Fayose: Fayemi didn’t hire us to rig

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner, Mrs. Amina Zakari, has denied Governor Ayo Fayose’s allegation that she and three other officials have been hired by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to rig the July 14 governorship poll.

She challenged Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to provide evidence to substantiate their claim, saying “it is impossible for an individual to rig election”.

Zakari, who is the National Commissioner in charge of Election Operations and Logistics, said INEC is moving forward and getting better in conducting credible elections and “would not go back to bad old days”.

She spoke in Ado-Ekiti alongside National Commissioner in charge of Ekiti, Osun and Oyo States, Prince Adedeji Soyebi at a Pre-Election Preparation workshop organised for Electoral Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers and Head of Departments.

Fayose levelled the allegation while speaking on a live programme on the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES).

Zakari said: “They should prove that beyond reasonable doubt. I doubt it if an individual can rig an election when there are over 20,000 personnel to conduct the election.”

“They should back their allegation with fact and figures. We (INEC) have nothing to hide. I see no reason why INEC would want to go back to bad old days.

“We are moving for forward ever and we remain focused to ensure a credible election for Nigeria.”
