  • Panel indictment: Fayemi urges court to quash substituted service order of summons

Ekiti State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has urged a State High Court to set aside its order for substituted service of summons on the case of criminal indictment filed against him by the state government.

The court, presided over by Justice Cornelius Akintayo, on May 28, ordered for a substituted service, following inability of the government to serve its summons on Fayemi and former Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Dapo Kolawole.

The state government had issued a White Paper which indicted Fayemi and Kolawole of alleged fraud while in office between 2010 and 2014.

The duo was also banned from holding public office for 10 years, based on recommendation of a Judicial Commission of Enquiry which probed their administration.

The court ordered that the service be made to wit: advertising by one insertion in a widely circulated newspaper in Nigeria, as prayed by the complainant (state).

The state government was represented by Mr. Ola Olanipekun (SAN) while Chief Rafiu Balogun told the court that he was appearing for Fayemi and Kolawole “in protest” on the grounds that his clients were not properly served before the court gave the last ruling.

Balogun, at the court proceeding on Monday, moved an application supported by a nine-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Kolawole.

The affidavit was dated June 8 and filed on June 11.

Balogun, who also adopted a written address dated June 8, also told the court that he was served with a counter-affidavit four days earlier.

The lawyer told the court that the gamut of the prosecution’s written address was that the defendants’ application constituted an abuse of court process.

He averred that the mode of substituted service through advertisement in a newspaper was unknown to the Ekiti State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2014 governing criminal matters.

Balogun said the only recognised substituted service by the relevant law is by affixing the summons or other processes at a conspicuous place or on the premise of the person to be served.

The lawyer stressed that there was no material placed before the court upon which it could exercise its discretion to grant any mode of substituted service.

Ha added that there was no affidavit of non-service deposed to by the court bailiff.

Citing the case of Garba v State, as reported in 2014 AFWLR Pt. 756, Pg. 423 @ 444-445, Balogun argued that the Court of Appeal had ruled that the only two means of service in criminal matters are: personal service or service by pasting.

Opposing the application, Olanipekun told the court that he had filed a four-paragraph counter-affidavit dated and filed June on 27 supported by three exhibits.

Relying on the affidavit and exhibits, Olanipekun, who adopted a written address, urged the court to dismiss the defendants’ application.

The lawyer said the motion earlier moved by Balogun was supported by an affidavit deposed to by Kolawole, who he said put his address in Paragraph 1 as Igbehinadun Street, Iloro-Ekiti and averred in paragraphs 6 and 7 that he resides in Lagos.

He faulted the prayer of the defendants seeking to set aside the order granted by the court on May 28, saying the order was executed on May 31 in the Nigerian Tribune edition of that day.

According to him, it was late for the court to set aside the order already executed.

Olanipekun described the application of the defendants as misconceived and an abuse of court process.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) averred that “once an order is executed, it cannot be set aside”.

The prosecution counsel added that Section 6, Sub-Section 6 of the Constitution refers to all judicial powers to facilitate delivery of justice, including powers to make orders not provided for in adjectival law.

Reacting to issues Olanipekun raised, Balogun insisted that there was no contradiction on Kolawole’s averments in Paragraphs 1, 6 and 7 on his place of residence.

Balogun added that the court can set aside its order if given in error or deceived to issue same.

The lawyer added that there was no service at all on his clients: either in Abuja or Lagos.

He cited the case of Adekoye and Others v NSPMC reported in LCER Pg. 106 (SC) Pg. 37 paragraphs d-g.

Olanipekun also told the court that he had filed another application seeking to effect further processes on the defendants through their counsel.

Balogun said he would need time to respond to it.

He stressed that he was appearing in protest.

Justice Akintayo adjourned the matter till July 11 for ruling on the applications filed by both parties.

  • ‘Fayemi has answer to Ekiti problems’

All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidates in the 2015 general elections have endorsed the party’s candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, ahead of the July 14 governorship poll.

They urged the electorate to vote for Fayemi, adding that the APC flag bearer has the answer to the socio-economic problems afflicting the state.

The former candidates under the aegis of G-16, said Fayemi’s choice by the party as a candidate offers an opportunity to reclaim Ekiti and restore its values.

In a communiqué at the end of a meeting held in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the group expressed regrets that “Ekiti is presently going through an unprecedented hardship and bad governance under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) administration.”

The communiqué was signed by the Coordinator, Mr. Aderemi Adedara; Secretary, Mr. Dapo Osunniyi and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bisi Dada.

They said: “On the 14th of July, 2018, Ekiti people have a date with destiny. We therefore call on the good people of Ekiti State to vote for Dr. John Kayode Fayemi for the restoration of our collective dignity, hope, values, positive economic transformation and regular payment of salaries.

“We also believe that his administration, when elected, will ensure the return of the Local Council Development Areas to bring government closer to the people, Social Security Scheme, Peace Corps, YCAD, Youth Volunteers Scheme, infrastructure and human development.

“We shall campaign, we shall work hard, we shall vote and by the special grace of God, we shall win. The time to reclaim our land and restore our values is now.

“Workers are owed between six and nine months salaries, the youth are unemployed, the social security system under which over 25,000 aged people were paid a monthly stipend of N5,000 were abrogated.

“Infrastructure, rural and urban development is restricted to the state capital, our people are overtaxed and impoverished. The monthly IGR in Ekiti is known only to Governor Fayose which has never been accounted for.

“Unfortunately, the present members of Ekiti State House of Assembly are intellectually lazy, captured, unproductive, compromised and weak.”

“Fayose even boasted that he is the Assembly Speaker, budgets are rubberstamped without any consideration of Ekiti people’s interest.

    All these aberrations must stop.”

  • Why APC will win on July 14, by Fayemi

Former Minister of Mines and Steel Development and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ekiti State Dr. Kayode Fayemi spoke with reporters in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on his manifesto, the controversial White Paper, why he lost the 2014 election and why he will win the July 14 poll. EMMANUEL OLADESU was there.

Following the rancour that characterised the APC primary, where you emerged as candidate, how far have you gone in your reconciliatory move with other aspirants?

APC has once again proved to bookmakers that common interest supersedes personal interest. It was easier to reconcile with my co-contestants because we all have the same purpose and objective, i.e, to reclaim our honour and restore our values by dislodging the PDP government.

To the glory of God and massive synergy from fellow aspirants  we are making tremendous and consistent progress. Ekiti state APC is today larger and stronger than we were before the primary election. You can see that in the way people from the other side are crossing over. A tree doesn’t make a forest. I owe the success of the process so far to the cooperation, support and guidance of APC national and state leaders and my co-aspirants. They are on the same page with me. They are all solidly behind me to restore the good governance that was cut short in Ekiti state four years ago

Many people are asking why do you want to be governor again, having once served the state in that capacity?

My quest to be governor again is born out of my sheer love and commitment to the well-being of my people. Each time I move round Ekiti, I see the pains on the faces of the 25,000 elderly persons who benefited from our social security scheme, 600 people who were employed into the peace corps, 10,000 volunteers who took N10,000 per month, among others but have been cut off from these safety nets by Fayose. The complaints and agonies of the beneficiaries of many abandoned physical projects and social welfare programs give me sleepless nights.

For instance instance, hundreds of boreholes in public schools are abandoned and not functional for lack of maintenance, over 40,000 people benefitting from our various social investment scheme have been put out to hang and dry.  All that we did to better the lives of our people have been eroded in a lot of places, just go to Ikogosi, you will be sorry. Which sensible and reasonable person sees such laudable programs damaged/jettisoned and relax or go to sleep? These people have no clear understanding of how to run public offices.

The most painful aspect is workers welfare. This is painful because workers welfare was one of their major premise of campaign back then. Most of our tertiary institutions now run epileptic calendar because of incessant strike. No civil servant in Ekiti state has received salary this year. Ditto, for the pensioners, none of them have received pension in 2018 and gratuity have not been paid for years. Yet the government keeps lying to the public about the financial situation of the state. Things are tight generally in the country no doubt but the problem of Ekiti state is simply misplacement of priority.

Are you not afraid that the Fayose government may use the White Paper to get you barred from contesting the election?

The White Paper cannot stop me or anybody for that matter. Yes, it used to be the case in this country that you can use an administrative panel report or a judicial commission report to orchestrate the ban of a political office holder, but that period has since gone because it became very clear that this was a witch-hunting tool.  May I also remind you that there is a settled matter by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on this point and that is Atiku Abubakar vs Federal Government of Nigeria that you cannot use the report of a commission of inquiry or an administrative panel to ban anyone from public office. To the best of my knowledge, I have not even been asked to show up in any court over any allegation.  My brother and friend, Rabiu Kwankwaso also went through the same experience. He was governor, he went to become minister and when he was about coming back as governor, the governor of the then Kano State brought a commission of inquiry report. Of course, it was rubbished and the man became governor.

Though I am not the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), however, there is judicial precedence. Therefore I am sure that the so called white paper is of no effect. Its a product of shallow minds and it is impotent. If anyone has any concrete/verifiable case against me, he/she should prove it in the court.

We admit that we borrowed N25 billion to be defrayed within three years and records are there at the DMO that Fayemi paid back N14.5 billion of the debts, leaving the balance of only N10.5 billion before we left office on Oct. 16, 2014. If the official debt figure was N10.5 billion, how then did they come about the N35.34 billion they claimed to have used to service an outstanding debt of N10.5 billion? That means that the state was servicing the debts at an average of N1.1 billion monthly for them to have arrived at N35.34 billion. They lie shamelessly about anything and everything. Unfortunately for them the truth about our borrowing and outstanding as at the time we left are in public domain for people to see and make their own judgment. Ekitikete are not fools.

It is believed that you are planning to use federal might against the PDP, just like they did to you in 2014…

The events leading to the election of 2014 in Ekiti State negate the principles of a free, fair and credible election. From the militarization of the election to the police attack on our supporters, arrest and detention of our leaders across the state and the use of huge funds to induce voters, the federal authorities skewed everything in favour of the PDP. While we believe that the various security agencies indeed have a role to play in providing the necessary security for the election, we do not see why the whole state should be locked down in a non belligerent situation like an election. There are many questions begging for answers: who ordered the clampdown of the opposition? Who gave the orders to stop Gov. Rotimi Amaechi from reaching Ado-Ekiti, as the Army captain who stopped and threatened to shoot him said he was acting under orders from above?

Also worth mentioning is the flagrant abuse of national institutions that led to the country’s aviation authorities shutting down airports in Akure and elsewhere on the same day that our party had its last campaign rally in Ado-Ekiti. This act of impunity was targeted solely at the opposition, and it runs against global standards. Lest we forget, on the same day the helicopter ferrying Governor Adams Oshiomhole from Benin Airport to Akure en route Ekiti for that final rally was prevented from taking off. Airports are never shut without the issuance of a NOTAM  Notice to Airmen. Again, who gave the orders for the closure of the airports? This is an attestation to the fact that the security operatives were in the state more for a sinister motive than just to provide security for the election.

Should you come back as governor, what would be your areas of priority?

We are bringing on board this time a message of consolation, hope and restoration. Consolation for the tolerance and perseverance of the last four years and hope for speedy restoration of abandoned programs, infrastructures, industries, values, projects and all the good things we lost due to some actions or inactions of the incumbent administration.

The business of electing rests with the people of Ekiti State and I believe they are intelligent people who can compare what the situation was when we left office and the way it is now and what the future holds for our children and people. When they look at what we did in office side by side with what is on ground now, they know the difference. This coming election is not about me or the APC but about what is good for Ekitikete; about the future of our teeming unemployed youths, about the abandoned elderly whose social security was cut off, about civil servants that have not received a single salary for the year 2018, about every project that was built with our commonwealth but abandoned to rot away, about pensioners and retirees whose entitlements have not been paid for years, about the 10,000 volunteers that were laid off, about traditional rulers and other constituted authorities that have been cowed and suppressed, about every thoroughbred Ekiti sons and daughters  yearning for the restoration of our values and honor, and about the future of Ekiti.

This coming election is therefore a referendum for Ekitikete to either support me to reactivate the good governance that was cut short four years ago or to approve the continuity of the abysmal performance of the current administration. People remember what we did for every single community in Ekiti State. What we did for teachers, civil servants, the universities and all of the various aspects of our 8-point agenda. People know what we did for infrastructure development, for education in the state, for health care, for agriculture in the state, people have fond memories of what we did within the space of four years we were in office. Our people have encountered what we would call water and oil, they clearly know the difference, they’ve seen the difference, between the time when salaries were paid on the 25th of every month without fail and a time when they don’t even know when salary would come.

They’ve seen a difference between a government that prioritized the welfare of the elderly and gave them a stipend every month and a government that does not care a hoot whether they lived or died. They’ve seen the difference between a government that said this is Ekiti; regarded as fountain of knowledge. No more miracle centres here, we would be a product of our own hard work; placed a laptop on the desk of each and every student; made the school atmosphere much more conducive than it has ever been in the state; recruited teachers, doctors, lecturers, fixed virtually all the roads in the state; started a youth and commercial agriculture program. Everywhere you go in Ekiti state, people could point to specific things we did for their towns and communities while in office.

Despite the electoral result of 2014, you appear very much confident. What gives you the  confidence?

Our confidence is in the people. Our people have gone through a lot of pains in the last three and a half years of PDP government in the state and have come to the conclusion that the PDP government is a product of fraud and it is a government that does not care about their welfare. If you asked somebody who has not earned salary in eight months, at least they will tell you that under Fayemi I was not owed. That is, if you take it at such a basic simplistic level. But I do not want us to even take it at that level because that, for me as I said, is not a measure of good governance. It is just a measure of duty that I have to the people if I pay salaries. Take it from what I have said to you, when I was governor, Ekiti excelled in all the rankings.

The World Bank Ease of Doing Business study ranked Ekiti when I was governor as the number five place where you can do business easily in Nigeria, we moved from number 34 to number 5. I just told you that the kids that entered secondary school when I was governor were the ones who took WASSCE and NECO exams and excelled. So, you do not get that by one year of being in government, so there is no way even though the Fayose administration is trying to claim credit for that. But it is the cumulative effect of work that we did that resulted in what those kids achieved.

If you move from that to the DFID assessment of governance, Ekiti was ranked as the state with the most transparent budget when I was governor. Why was this possible? Because I focused on ensuring that budget is responsive to the yearnings of the people. So, we did not do budget in Ekiti to people, we did it with the  people, we ensured that their input was what formed the content of our budget estimate, and we implemented that accordingly.

If you move to tourism, it is the same approach, People who visited Ikogosi when I was governor can attest to what we did and those are the kind of things that would draw people to our state. Ekiti became a kidnappers den when I left office, so security in the state was compromised, accountability was compromised, government was also compromised because what we had was a one-man show, it was not government of the people by the people for the people. And that compromises democracy.

These are the areas that I think would make a difference. APC is a social democratic party, for us, we believe that the only way you can make a difference in governance is to lift up the weak and vulnerable people. Characters who are governing Ekiti now are not interested in that and that is why the state has sufferred so much regression over the last three and half years and that is why we need a corrective measure to grow the economy, improve the development of the state and then bring life to the people more abundant.

Is it true that the APC government would ban okada, sack teachers and local government workers?

There is no reason to sack local government workers or any worker for that matter. I believe downsizing is the only option available for the PDP government because they are short of ideas on how to get themselves out of the self inflicted quagmire. I have said it repeatedly to the people of the state that the welfare of the people is what is paramount to us in APC and that is what the in coming APC government will pursue.

We never had any issue with the okada riders. What we insisted they must do was to comply with safety rules. That is wear their helmet, so as to reduce the level of injury in case of an accident. Similarly we have no plan to sack any teacher or local government workers. We never sacked any worker or teacher during our four years in government and I believe we have very cordial relationship with different categories of workers in the state.

As a matter of fact, under my watch the civil service will be strengthened, re-orientated and reequipped to perform better. Where necessary, we are going to employ more hands to energise the service. All the youths empowerment and employment schemes that were cancelled by the current administration will be resuscitated to provide employment and succour to as many youths as possible. Can I be planning all these and be thinking of downsizing at the same time? The welfare of all civil servants was and is still my number one priority. The entire workforce in Ekiti state should ignore the rumour that the incoming APC government is going to downsize. As a matter of fact, I am actually coming back because of civil servants. I have been demonized, blackmailed and lied against, all in the name of teachers and civil servants. They lied against me that I hate teachers and that my government will sack workers. If by the grace of God and support of Ekitikete, I become Governor for the second time, no dedicated and comm

  • Tinubu, Akande, others reaffirm support for Fayemi

All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the Southwest have restated their support for Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the party’s governorship candidate in the July 14 Ekiti governorship election.

They condemned a court case allegedly instituted by Chief Segun Oni, one of the defeated aspirants in the party’s primary election.

In a statement, the leaders “demand that the sponsors of the court action withdraw their case immediately if they are within our party and not agents of PDP. We also request that Segun Oni should come out publicly to dissociate himself from and condemn the case and play active role in the APC campaign”.

The statement entitled: ‘We stand behind Kayode Fayemi,’ was signed by APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Niyi Adebayo and the party’s former National Vice Chairman, (Southwest) Chief Pius Akinyelure.

According to the leaders, the decision to support Fayemi was “reached through a combination of persuasion, reconciliation, consensus- building and understanding on the part of all the stakeholders.”

They condemned the court case which they described as spurious and asked those behind the court action to withdraw their case immediately “if they are within our party and not agents of PDP”.

They also called on Segun Oni to come out publicly to dissociate himself from and condemn the case and play active role in the APC campaign

The statement reads: “We led several intervention meetings that held in Abuja, Lagos and Ekiti with all the APC Ekiti gubernatorial aspirants where we resolved to support whoever emerges from the May primaries.

“We have stood behind Kayode Fayemi’s candidacy since he won the governorship primaries and when we all gathered in Ekiti for the Mega Rally on June 19, it was an emphatic declaration of support for his candidacy. Again on the night of June 19, we as leaders met with all stakeholders including all former aspirants and commended them for not defecting from the party. They all emphasised their commitment and suggested that Kayode Fayemi run an effective and inclusive campaign that will ultimately lead to an all-inclusive government.

“We have been consistent in our position working to ensure victory for the APC candidate, we are therefore surprised to find out through media channels about plans to challenge Kayode Fayemi’s candidacy on spurious grounds.

“Furthermore, it is worrisome that a court action against Kayode Fayemi and our party is alleged by media reports to be instituted by Chief Segun Oni, which from our investigations is being sponsored by some unknown persons.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we the undersigned leaders remain solidly behind the candidacy of Kayode Fayemi knowing full well he has fulfilled all necessary requirements for the election as the candidate of our party.

“We have forged a common front even as we are irrevocably committed to our party’s victory come July 14, 2018. Nothing should be allowed to undermine our party’s victory in the upcoming election.

  • Three INEC officials colluding with Fayose to rig poll, says Fayemi Campaign

The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Council has accused three officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with Governor Ayo Fayose to rig the July 14 governorship election.

The three INEC officials fingered in the alleged rigging plot are Egharevba John, Festus Aisien, Igidiogu Kelechi and a former official of the agency, Ishaku Abbo.

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, the Deputy Director General (Ekiti South) of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Council, Mr. Bamidele Faparusi, alleged that INEC headquarters and security agencies have been informed on the development.

The campaign body claimed that while Egharevba, Aisien and Igidiogu came from INEC headquarters in Abuja to carry out the act, Ishaku had been residing in the Government House for about six months working in cahoots with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government to rig the poll.

Faparusi alleged that sensitive materials like stamps, permanent voter cards, Form EC8A and accreditation forms have been produced in the Ado-Ekiti Government House with the help of the INEC officials.

The officials, he said, worked in  Administration, Stores and Distribution and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Departments at INEC headquarters.

The campaign chief expressed dismay while the officials had made Government House their abode without holding any meeting with other political parties involved in the forthcoming governorship poll.

Faparusi said: “We have it on good authority that Governor Ayodele Fayose in cahoots with some corrupt top officials of INEC in the state are busy attempting to compromise the electoral process in favour of PDP.

“We have it on good authority that an election expert, one Ishaku, a former INEC official, has been living with the governor in the Government House since January this year.

“After these illegal activities in the Government House, there was a secret meeting held with three top officials of INEC from the national headquarters in the Government House.

“Curiously, these three top officials hold strategic positions in election management. One is from the Admin, one is from Stores and Distribution Dept while the other is ICT top official.

“For the reasons best known to them, only the Government House was their exclusive port of call; APC was never in the picture.

“After this evil agenda, Fayose stormed the media to raise allegations that the APC was in Ondo State Government House to manipulate the ballot to give APC an edge in the July 14 election.

“Documents already produced include stamps, PVCs, Result sheets (Form EC8A) and INEC accreditation forms. We are calling on INEC headquarters to note these atrocities being perpetrated by its corrupt officials to tarnish the image of the electoral body.

“You will recall Fayose’s illegal activities in the 2014 election as contained in Captain Koli tape. We don’t want a repeat of that experience.”

But the campaign organisation of the PDP governorship candidate, Prof Kolapo Olusola, described the allegations by the APC candidate as a function of “a frustrated desperate politician that is already smelling electoral defeat”.

Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign Organisation,  Lere Olayinka, said it was clear that Fayemi was raising alarm to cover up his plans to manipulate himself to power.

Olayinka,  who maintained that the PDP position is that the July 14 election must be free, fair and transparent, added:  “Those banking on ‘federal might’ to foist themselves on Ekiti people are the ones now crying just to divert attention.

“We have been preparing for this election since 2016 and Ishaku Abbo was engaged as a consultant since then.

“Whereas,  Fayemi is just running around trying to market a battered image to the same Ekiti people that he maltreated when he was governor and did nothing when he was Minister.

“Our question is; did we prevent Fayemi and his ilk from also engaging a consultant? Are we the ones who made them to rely solely on federal might instead of the might of God and the people of Ekiti?

“If they are now being faced with the reality of a failed believe in federal might, shouldn’t they just accept defeat instead of this childish attempt to create a excuse for their impending electoral failure?

“As for us in the PDP,  with the support of God and Ekiti people that we enjoy,  we are sure of wining the election in a free and fair atmosphere and we are hopeful that INEC will prove Nigerians wrong by conducting a free,  fair and credible election in Ekiti.”

  • ‘Fayemi will transform Ekiti’

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Eliezer Investment Ltd, Mr Kehinde Fajana, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, will transform Ekiti State.

Fajana, who spoke in Ikeja, Lagos, described Fayemi as a decent politician who would bring economic emancipation to the state.

He said:”APC is a dynamic party with good programmes. It will take over Ekiti State after the governorship election because besides its lofty manifesto, its standard-bearer, Dr Fayemi, is a decent politician.

“Fayemi has the experience to transform Ekiti, being a former governor and minister. Ekiti is a land of honour, glory and dignity. The indigenes are decent people. We are not thugs. In fact,we abhor thuggery.

“Ekiti people want decency. We are not hooligans. Dr Fayemi will take the state back to the path of progress if elected as a governor. “

In another development Fajana has hailed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for embarking on projects.

He described him as a project-oriented governor, saying the numerous projects in Lagos showed that Ambode was determined to develop the state.

“Fajana said:” Governor Ambode is an achiever. He makes project development easy for whosoever that is handling it, whether the person is a contractor or a developer. He deserves reelection.”

  • Ekiti will be great under Fayemi, say aides

The people of Ekiti State have been advised to vote the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for good governance and improved standard of living.

This was the position of the body of Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants, who served during the first tenure of Fayemi between October 2010 and October 2014.

They said the period was “the golden era of Ekiti development in human capital development, infrastructure development, good governance and influx of investors and tourists to the land of honour.”

Fayemi’s former aides pledged to work hard in their various localities to ensure the victory of the APC flag bearer in the July 14 election

In a communique issued at the end of their meeting at the weekend, the forum’s chairman Dr. Femi Akinola urged voters to elect Fayemi to enable him bring his wealth of experience in governance to bear.

Expressing total support for their former boss, the former aides commended Fayemi for performing excellently and for the socio-economic transformation of the state.

According to the aides, Ekiti State in its political history, witnessed the remarkable development under Fayemi’s administration.

They resolved to work for the success of Fayemi in the July 14 governorship election, saying Ekiti would be great again under  Fayemi.

  • Fayemi praises EKSU for performance

The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation has praised lecturers and graduating students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti, over performance in their degree programmes.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation Wole Olujobi had said.

He said the performance is a reflection of resilience and winning spirit in both the lecturers and students to succeed in the face of daunting challenges that were allowed to fester to create unfriendly atmosphere for learning.

Olujobi said: “In spite of unfriendly academic environment characterised by non-payment of salaries and allowances and failure to assist the university to enjoy grants for academic programmes, the lecturers devised means to meet the challenges of producing graduates that can match their colleagues in academic programmes in well-funded universities.

“In spite of humiliating circumstances under which they work without salary for several months, the lecturers dropped the sentiments of labour union partisans to assume the responsibilities of concerned parents in the management of the unfriendly circumstances to ensure that academic programmes did not suffer in the university.

“We particularly praise the lecturers for the parental roles they played in ensuring the termination of their strike action when it appeared that the patron of the school was not bothered about their plights, particularly when Governor Ayodele Fayose reportedly advised the authorities of the school to close down the school and bring him the keys when the lecturers were demanding for payment of their salaries and subventions to the school that had not been paid for a very long time.

“We also commend the students for coming out in flying colours after burning the candles and after putting extra efforts to succeed in the face of unfriendly academic environment to produce that performance.”

The  group denounced Fayose for not commending the lecturers and student for their performance.

He said the EKSU graduation ceremony, where 47 graduates made First Class without volunteering words of praise for those brilliant fresh graduates was misplaced

Olujobi added: “He would not also comment on the efforts of the lecturers that produced that wonderful performance, instead, he kept tasking and taxing those awarded with honourary degrees to contribute for the development of the university.

“Neither did the governor say anything on the various demands by the authority, staff and students of the university on how to improve academic environment and quality of learning.

“In climes where leaders cherish education and brilliant performance, besides praising those bright young graduates for their record performance, they will be honoured to encourage other students coming after them for better performance.

“Why will a governor declare in an academic community that he was at a graduation ceremony in an institution where he is the Visitor just because his wife is graduating from that university?

“Why will a governor call out his wife to a podium at a university graduation ceremony and ask the wife of a governorship candidate (Eleka) to tap anointing from his wife for onward transmission to her husband?

“We condemn this deliberate desecration of the citadel of learning and hostility to education in the Land of Honour with solid fountain to promote knowledge.”

  • Fayemi”ll trounce Fayose in Ekiti – Envoy

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Togo, Bar. Olusola Iji, at the weekend said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the governorship election in Ekiti State. The former chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN) in Ondo State who spoke in Akure, the state capital, said there will be no barrier against its flag bearer,Dr Kayode Fayemi, to become the next governor after Fayose. According to him, Fayemi is favoured in many ways to return to the seat he vacated in 2014.

Iji said Ekiti apart from being a bastion of knowledge,it is an homogeneous state that craves for everything that is excellent. The diplomat said his assignment in Lome is to interface between the governments of Nigeria and Togo while seeing to the wellbeing of Nigerians in the host country. According to him, his first duty on resumption was to tour all the regions including the prisons to meet with Nigerians.

Iji, a legal practitioner and chieftain of the APC, said “Our people were so happy for this because in many places visited,  they either admitted that they have not experienced such visitation before or have not witnessed such over a long period of time. “We have also been active on other fronts playing a leading role in the diplomatic Community. As I am speaking to you, I am the President of African Group of Ambassadors and Heads of Diplomatic Missions and my relationship with the president and the government of the republic has been very cordial”.

  • Fayemi faults Fayose’s claim on Paris Club refund denial

THE Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation (KFCO) has debunked claims by Governor Ayodele Fayose, that the Federal Government is deliberately delaying disbursement of Paris Club cash to the states of the federation, to hurt Ekiti State’s bid to pay workers’ salary. Fayose had said that the alleged move by the Federal Government was meant to incapacitate Ekiti State from paying workers salary and enable the All Progressives Congress (APC) use nonpayment of salary as a campaign tool against PDP candidate, Prof. Olusola Eleka, at the July 14 governorship election.

A statement by Fayose’s media aide also alleged that Fayemi’s administration plunged the state into debt, leaving two months’ salaries unpaid, and that, N35.34billion was being deducted every month from Ekiti allocations to service the debt. According to the statement, if the governor had N35.34bn, he would not owe workers. But a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of KFCO, Wole Olujobi, faulted the claims, arguing that Fayose was using cheap blackmail to get undeserved public sympathy and support, ahead of the July 14 election. Olujobi explained that Ekiti’s total debts while Fayemi was leaving office, according to the Debt Management Office (DMO), was N18billion. He added, that, contrary to claims that Fayemi owed two months’ salaries, the administration owed just one month salary, mainly because Fayose threatened banks not to grant Fayemi a standing facility to pay salary ahead of Abuja allocation.

He said: “This is a cheap blackmail and characteristic propaganda by Fayose who has taken Ekiti people for fools as he often derides them among his friends; for how can one claim that N35.34b is being spent to service the debt of N18b? “How can the Federal Government cripple all the states because of the election in Ekiti State, as if President Muhammadu Buhari is like President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, that paid Ecological Fund cash to PDP states but refused to pay APC states? “How did Fayose spend the Paris Club refunds he earlier collected to pay salary but refused to pay workers? “Fayose collected a bailout of about N20billion in two tranches, for workers salary but diverted all to self-serving projects, having earlier taken N2billion CBN smallscale business credit scheme, but never released one kobo to any small-scale business owner.

“Fayose collected N2billion Ecological Fund, but for close to a year, he consistently lied that he never collected the money, only to own up when APC approached the Ecological Fund office with the Freedom of Information (FOI) instrument, to get the fact; and the very week Fayose shamelessly confessed taking the money, he announced ecological project contract totaling exactly N2billion, even though up till now, there is no sign of ecological project across the state, as could be seen in ecological disasters that ravaged the state. “Again, the governor was secretly collecting N1.3 billion Budget Support Facility for 14 months, to pay salary, but he never told workers he was collecting this money on their behalf, for salary, until he exposed himself when he made similar allegation, like the case here, that President Muhammadu deliberately withheld Ekiti State’s allocation. “After a long period of blackmail, the Federal Government responded, explaining that it withheld Ekiti cash because Fayose was illegally diverting it to other purposes, and this expose created opportunity for Ekiti workers, for the first time, to know that Fayose was collecting such facility on their behalf, to pay salary, but consistently diverted it illegally.”

Olujobi also faulted Fayose’s claim that Fayemi’s administration’s debts service obligation was hurting the state’s capacity to pay workers. “Records have also shown that Fayose is presently paying N1.7 billion monthly in monthly salary, but still fraudulently claims that the figure remains the same as N2.6 billion, that Fayemi was paying after Fayose removed about 40,000 names from the wage bill he inherited from Fayemi.” Urging Fayose to disclose the IGR profile allegedly kept in secret accounts, Fayemi’s campaign spokesman, said Ekiti people and workers in particular, had become wiser after discovering that their governor had been “unconscionably running Ekiti State like a buka where accountability is zero.”

Stressing that Ekiti people can no longer be fooled by deceit, he urged workers to insist on their salaries and should not to be deceived by an administration that sees Ekiti State as a jackpot for private comfort. He also urged Fayose to quit claiming that he owed workers four months salary. He asked the governor to pay the six months salaries he owes state workers, the seven months salaries he owes workers in tertiary institutions, the eight months he owes local government, the seven months he owes teaching hospitals and the 11 months’ salaries that he owes the state’s pensioners.
