We have plans for Southeast development, says Ganduje

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said the party has a blueprint for the political development of the Southeast.

He also said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the document for the Southeast and its integration into the nation’s mainstream politics.

Ganduje said this while the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) hosted APC leaders and stakeholders from Anambra State at the national secretariat yesterday in Abuja.

The national chairman, who assured APC supporters from the Southeast of the party’s resolve to increase its presence in the region, noted that the revolution of taking over the zone would begin with the Anambra State governorship election in 2025.

“I would like to let you know that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved our blueprint for the political development of the Southeast to the APC. He has approved the political de-marginalisation of the Southeast.

“One is not happy when a region speaks of marginalisation. But you need to be united. You need to speak with one voice because if you speak with one voice, your voice will be bigger, wider and will be easy to be heard.”

“You need a platform for negotiation at the national level. For now, you have been known and you have to be united. The liberal revolution is starting from Anambra State.”

The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who was accompanied by the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor Abdulrasak Abdulrahman, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule during the visit, said the ruling party was set to become the vehicle for the Southeast to be fully integrated into the national project.

He said: “In the Nigerian project, we are determined in our region to be part and parcel of the Nigerian politics. Consistent with that, we are going to do our best to make sure that the five states in the Southeastern region are dominated by APC by endearing our party to the people of the Southeast region.”

Why we dissolve Rivers Excos – Ganduje

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje has that the dissolution of all levels of the party’s executives in Rivers state was aimed at uniting different tendencies within the party in the state.

Ganduje gave this on Friday, November 24, while inaugurating the Tony Okocha-led seven-man caretaker committee for the party in the state at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party announced the dissolution of the executive committees of the party from the ward level to the state level after a crucial meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.

Addressing the committee members, Ganduje said for the party to actualise the desired unity, the NWC thought it fit to rejig the leadership of the party at all levels in the state, hence the dissolution of the executive arm of the party in the state.

Ganduje noted that the setbacks suffered by the party since 2015, occasioned by intra-party conflict, litigations and counter-litigations which finally resulted in the loss of the party in the state, informed the decision of the NWC to reposition the party in the state.

Congratulating the caretaker committee, the Chairman said, “I am sure you are fully aware since  2015 APC has been suffering some setbacks one way or another, intra-party, conflict litigations and counter litigations finally resulting in the loss of our great party.

“So this new National Working Committee of our great party has examined every issue about the party, both at the national level and at individual state levels. And decided to reform the part and this is not possible until we examine the leadership in our respective states.

“There is no doubt we have members who have been in APC, since its creation, some have left the party, some prominent party members left the party and even contested in another political fight and they do not wish to come back.

“Some of the original party members also followed another faction, they too they’re ready to come back. Also, there are newcomers from other parties who are many according to our investigation, that would like to come into the party, so you can see that there is no time to rejig the party but now, especially rejigging the party leadership.”

Expressing confidence in the committee, Ganduje told them the party expected them to be the foundation of the reform being envisaged in the state.

He charged the committee to conduct electronic registration of party members, constitute various committees, and conduct congresses that will produce substantive leaders at all levels of the party within 6 months.

“We have confidence in you, and we expect you to involve yourselves because part of the reform system, we have introduced electronic registration of our members we request you to pay attention to the electronic registration of our members and I want you to spearhead that exercise.

“We expect you to constitute various committees so that you can get more into the party, that is the work that you should do. We also expect you to prepare an enabling environment, so that congresses can be conducted for the emergence of leadership at the ward level, local government level, state level and even senatorial level.

“We expect you to put more life into this party, there is no discrimination, do not bother yourself about factions because you are brothers for unity, and regard yourself as APC brothers.

“We would like you to make history by building a strong foundation for our party, so that during the next gubernatorial election we have an APC government in River State, during the next presidential election, even though we are grateful, River State is the only state in the South-South where we succeeded in electing our president Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The chairman of the committee, Tony Okocha who was a former Chief of Staff in the state, assured the party of the readiness of the committee members to hit the ground running.

“We want to assure you that you have assembled eggheads, good party builders, and ardent party supporters and we shall not fail you.

“We have listened to your charges, I thought I could scribble something to respond. But having listened to your charges you took away all that I wanted to say in our response. But what I would like to do is to re-emphasize to assure you that the days of factions in APC Rivers are over.

Speaking with newsmen after the inauguration, the spokesperson for the Committee, Hon. Chibuike Ikenga said the party will be open to all comers including the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, “Chief Nyesom Wike is an illustrious son of Rivers State but not a member of APC. He is a member of PDP. But if tomorrow he wants to join the APC we cannot stop anybody. As far as he wants to join others we will welcome them.”

The 7-man caretaker committee has Chief Tony Okocha as Chairman. Others are Hon. Chibuike Ikenga, Prince Stephen Abolo, Hon. Silvester Vidin, Senibo Karibi Dan-Jumbo and Miss Darling Amadi while Chief Eric Nwibani is to serve as the Secretary.

    • Kano Gov rejects Appeal Court’s verdict, heads to Supreme Court
    • We’re shocked by judgment, says NNPP chair

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed the joker used by the party to nail the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at the Appeal Court last Friday.

Ganduje said that the NNPP’s desperation  to have a governor in Kano State was its greatest undoing as it gave ticket to the sacked governor  without  noticing that  INEC had closed accepting nomination forms.

The immediate past Kano State governor said they (APC) adequately exploited the development in their case and came out victorious.

Ganduje made the revelation  while addressing some party supporters yesterday.

His words: “They were in PDP and when the crisis heated up and they were punched repeatedly they left the party and started groping for a platform. Unfortunately, they ran into a political party symbolizing fruits. They were given tickets because their leader was daydreaming; their leader was ambitious to be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but he was frightened.

“And because they desperately wanted a governor in Kano State, the party gave them a ticket to contest. But they made a serious blunder because when they joined the party, INEC had closed submission of nomination forms. But they were blind and uneducated. They went into the ring without making careful observation of this.

“They did not know that we laid in wait. We took the file, submitted it to Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gwuna and told him to hold it tight. When we filed a petition at the Kano governorship election tribunal, we told the court that they were not fielded by the party. We told the court that when INEC closed accepting names of candidates, they did not join the party,”

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Friday, nullified the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, held that Governor Yusuf was not a valid candidate in the gubernatorial election held in the state on March 18.

It maintained that evidence that was adduced by the parties established that Governor Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP, at the time the election was held.

Basking on the euphoria of  last Friday’s victory at the Appeal Court, Kano State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, yesterday  announced his mission. He said “our mission is growth and  development through improvement of the living standard of residents and citizens of Kano State.”

Gawuna was deputy governor under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who is now the national chairman of the APC.

Praising God for his victory at the Court of Appeal on Friday, Gawuna said the court only affirmed the truth about the gubernatorial contest between him and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who has been sacked by the appellate court.

He said: “I wish to appreciate the court of appeal for its verdict which upheld our victory at the election petition tribunal court.

“The affirmation of the truth by the Appeal Court will surely strengthen democracy.

“I want to use the opportunity to commend the judges of both the election tribunal and the court of appeal for standing by the truth to ensure that justice prevailed.

“Both judgements have reaffirmed that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

“This is a victory for all the residents and citizens of the state, therefore I am seeking the support of everyone irrespective of party affiliation to join hands with me and my running-mate Alh.Murtala Sule Garo in the advancement of Kano.

“I have to thank our amiable leader, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Deputy Senate President Sen.Barau Jibrin and the two ministers from Kano State for their support.

“My appreciation also goes to the hardworking State APC Chairman Alh.Abdullahi Abbas, Party Executives, Members of the National and State Assemblies, Local Government Chairmen and Party stalwarts from ward to state level.

“I wish to commend all the Ulamahs, Business Community,Youths and Women Groups for their solidarity and prayers.

“Our mission is growth and  development through improvement of the living standard of the residents and citizens of Kano State.

“I am calling on the residents and citizens of the State to remain calm and continue to be law abiding.”

Reacting to the judgement, the sacked governor of Kano State, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, yesterday announced his intention to appeal against Friday’s nullification of his election by the Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court.

He said he and his party -the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) would regain his election at the apex court.

“We are optimistic that the Supreme Court will reaffirm our mandate given by the people of Kano State,’’ he said in a statement signed by his media aide, Bature Dawakin-Tofa.

The sacked governor said: “I hereby inform the people of Kano State and well-meaning Nigerians that based on consensus of our stakeholders, we have instructed our lawyers to appeal against the judgment at the Supreme Court.

“We are optimistic that the Supreme Court will set aside these miscarriages of justice by the Election Petition Tribunal and the Appeal Court.

“We are also optimistic that the Supreme Court will reaffirm our mandate given by the people of Kano State.”

He called on the people of Kano to go about their legitimate businesses as the  government had taken necessary measures to ensure the security of their lives and properties as a cardinal responsibility.

Yusuf described his loss at the Court of Appeal as a temporary setback, assuring that “the temporary setback would not deter my administration from its commitment to continue with laudable projects and programmes to restore the lost glory of the state.”

The sacked governor also promised to roll out more initiatives to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State.

Speaking in the same vein, the founder of the NNPP, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, described the Appeal Court ruling as a rude shock to the party.

He said that only the party (NNPP) could determine who its members are and not the court.

“Again, it was a rude shock to me hearing the verdict of the Appeal Court in Abuja against the governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf of NNPP.

“I do know that it is only the NNPP and its members that can determine who is a party member.

“I also know that a party and its members can bring a person into the party and grant such a person a waiver to go into an election and represent the party in an election.

“I also know and believe that only someone who contested a nomination under the NNPP can challenge the party’s membership in an election.

“To the contrary, no other person has the right to raise an objection,” Aniebonam said in a statement .

He, however, said that the NNPP still believed that justice would not only be done but seen to have been done.

Aniebonam further said “Our hope is alive ahead of the Supreme Court judgment in due time.

“I hereby encourage all members of our great party, and indeed the indigenes of Kano in particular, to keep faith in the final decision of God under these avoidable circumstances.”

APC using clandestine moves to turn Nigeria into a one party state, says NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using clandestine moves to annihilate other political parties and drag the country into a one party system.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja yesterday, Acting National Chairman of the NNPP, Alhaji Kawu Ali said the APC must immediately halt its moves to truncate democracy in the country and turn the country into a one party state.

Ali said the international community must also take steps to support the country to deepen multi-party democracy and stop the APC from turning  Nigeria into a one –party state.

He described the Appeal Court judgement as a convoluted judgment, saying “we are gathered here today to convey our outright rejection of and express our dismay at the ruling of the Court of Appeal in respect of the only elected governor on the platform of  our dear party, the New Nigeria peoples Party NNPP.

“To say the least, we are shocked at the miscarriage of justice delivered on Friday 17th November, 2023 on the Governorship Election Petition of Kano State.

“You would recall that the candidate of our party, in the March 2023 governorship election in Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir was overwhelmingly elected by the good people of Kano State with a whopping votes of 1,019,602 to defeat the APC candidate who came a distant second. The margin between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the APC candidate was around 130,000 votes.

“You may also recall that the candidate of the APC conceded defeat and congratulated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf immediately. Surprisingly, after the issuance of Certificate of Return by INEC, the APC filed a bogus petition before the election tribunal which its own candidate refused to join.

“In spite of overwhelming evidence presented to the tribunal by our team of lawyers, the tribunal passed one of the most ridiculous judgments in the history of election jurisprudence in Nigeria and unjustly declared the APC candidate, who never joined the petition as the winner of the election.

“Believing in the credibility of the judiciary and its ability to correct any error of judgment by the lower court, our party approached the Court of Appeal and prayed the appellate court to set aside the unjust ruling of the lower court.

“To our greatest shock and consternation, the Court of Appeal on Friday 17th November, 2023 delivered a convoluted judgment that was anchored around their erroneous belief that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP.

“To claim that His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP at the time of the 2023 general election, is to say the least, the worst of mischief anybody can come up with. For the avoidance doubt, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was, and is still a card carrying bonafide member of the NNPP.

“Any claim to the contrary is only in the figment of the imagination of the mischief –makers. How could he have contested the election when the INEC portal for the submission of Candidates Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms could not have accepted any form that was not uploaded together with the copy of the NNPP Membership Card of the nominee?

“For our party, and we are sure for INEC as well, the issue of Membership of Candidate is a non-issue since the system of nomination is designed by INEC in such a way that only registered members can be nominated and uploaded onto the portal.

“It is therefore unbelievable that the Appeal Court would refuse to look at the merit of our party’s appeal and cling to the erroneous issue of membership that has already been settled severally by both the Appeal and Supreme Courts.

“We are therefore informing all members of the NNPP and indeed all Nigerians that our party has already briefed our lawyers to appeal this injustice at the Supreme Court.

“While we believe that the Supreme Court will correct the errors of the tribunal and the Appeal Court and restore the mandate of the good people of Kano State by re-affirming Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected Governor of Kano State, we are not unmindful of the political desperation of the APC leaders in Kano State, who were roundly rejected at the polls and who are now scampering to hijack power at all cost through the chambers of the Court as they did in 2019.

“We are therefore calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to intervene in the Kano situation as it is increasingly becoming the test case for the survival of democracy in Nigeria and the credibility of the judicial system.

“The ruling party must not be allowed to be using the chambers of the Courts to annihilate and incinerate opposition parties.

“We pray that the Judiciary would live up to its calling as the temple of justice and the last hope of the common man. So far members of  the NNPP Nationwide and the people of Kano State are yet to get justice from the Judiciary.

“We are therefore calling on the ruling party to save democracy in Nigeria by halting their clandestine moves to annihilate all other political parties and drag the country into a one party system.

“We are calling on the international community to support our country to deepen multi-party democracy and stop the APC from turning the country into a one –party state.”

Merger talks: Shendam not speaking for NNPP – Nat’l chairman

The National leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says Yabuku Shendam is not its National Publicity Secretary, and so, cannot speak for the party including rumoured merger plan with other political parties.

The NNPP National Chairman, Dr Major Agbo, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said that Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, remained the National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP.

“We insist he is not a card carrying member of our party but probably the spokesman of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s kwankwasiya group,” Agbo said.

The chairman was reacting to recent statements by Shendam on the reported call by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP for a merger among opposition parties to wrestle power from the APC in 2027.

He said that Shendam was quoted as saying “the NNPP could only accept the proposal if Atiku would support Kwankwaso, to wrest power from the APC in 2027”.

Agbo described Shendam as speaking for Kwankwaso whom he said, had long been expelled from the party by the NNPP Board of Trustees (BoT).

“The BoT in its meeting on Aug. 28, had expelled Kwankwaso and the decision was ratified by the National Convention of Aug. 29 in Lagos due to anti party activities and  other serious infractions.

“Kwankwaso is no longer a member of our party, cannot be its presidential candidate in 2027 and Shendam needs to know this,” he said.

Agbo said  the party was not, however,  averse to any proposition that could bring true dividends of democracy to ordinary Nigerians“Every Nigerian is interested in having a true democracy that is all inclusive, what we have now is far away from democracy.

“So, if there is a proposition by opposition elements to ensure that democracy is installed, why not?.

“However, that proposition must be given a good thought, considered by the founder and other founding members of our party,” he said.

He said that such a proposition must also be considered by the National Working Committee led by him,  and not by Kwankwaso and his kwankwassiya group.

Agbo added: “Anything that will make Nigerians witness democracy is accepted but our certificate is independent.

“Our certificate cannot be subsumed into any other as being imagined by Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, Shendam and their kwankwassiya group who are no longer members of our party.”

Ganduje to Abba Yusuf: Let’s meet at Supreme Court, you will be finally sacked

The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has expressed optimism that the party will trounce the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) again at the Supreme Court over the Kano state governorship election dispute.

He was reacting to the victory of the party at the Appeal Court that upheld the sack of the NNPP Abba Yusuf as the Kano state governor.

Ganduje, who applauded the appellate court for dispensing justice, said he was sure that the NNPP would still want to try their luck in the apex court, but assured them of another round of defeat.

The APC, national chairman who was reacting to the judgement, told newsmen in Abuja on Friday that “probably they will go to the Supreme Court which is part of democracy.

He said: “There is nothing wrong for them to go to the Supreme Court. We too, are ready to meet them in the Supreme Court. And Inshallah, we will win in the Supreme Court as well.”

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also commended the judiciary for living above blackmail and intimidation of some self-serving political interests.

Reacting to the victories of the party’s Kano and Zamfara states governorship candidates at the Court of Appeal, the party said the judgements underscore the vibrancy and independence of the judiciary, and rekindle confidence that the courts are, and remain, the bastion of hope for justice in any democracy.

APC national publicity secretary, Felix Mokar in a statement on Friday applauded the judiciary for its courage and professionalism in discharging its important constitutional duties.

The party urged the judiciary to continue to rise above blackmail and intimidation by some self-serving political interests, and continue to give full expression to the tenets of the law, irrespective of the identity or status of the parties involved.

The statement reads further, “In an epochal judgement earlier today, the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja upheld the decision of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the March 18, 2023 election, affirming the legitimate will of the Kano electorate as expressed at the polls.

“This judgement, sacking Abba Kabi Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as Governor of Kano State, comes barely 24 hours after the court declared the governorship election of Zamfara State inconclusive and ordered a rerun in three Local Government Areas of the state.

“Both judgements underscore the vibrancy and independence of the judiciary, and rekindle confidence that the courts are, and remain, the bastion of hope for justice in any democracy.

“As we applaud the judiciary for its courage and professionalism in discharging its important constitutional duties, we urge it to continue to rise above blackmail and intimidation by some self-serving political interests, and continue to give full expression to the tenets of the law, irrespective of the identity or status of parties involved.’

The party also congratulated party members in the two states and urged the people of Kano and Zamfara states to remain calm and peaceful.

In the same light, the National Chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje while reacting to the verdict of the appellate court also commended tbe judiciary for dispensing justice and for providing good administration of justice despite all the distractions that took place since the beginning of the trial.

Accepting the victory, Ganduje who was the former Kano State governor assured the people of Kano State that the good administration that was provided when he was at the helm of affairs for eight years when Dr. Nasiru Gawuna was his deputy would be replicated.

“Now as the Governor-elect for Kano State, he will provide a similar and I believe, he will provide a better administration more achievements will be recorded in Kano State. Because that is what we expect.

For the adjudged winner of the March 18 Kano State governorship election and APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, while thanking the people of the state, he reassured them of his readiness to serve them, promising not to fail them.

Food security: Ganduje calls for full attention to research, innovation

For the actualisation of President Bola Tinubu‘s food security agenda and economic growth plan, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has called on the government and stakeholders to give full attention to research and innovation as twin tools for the development of livestock in Nigeria.

He made the call while delivering a keynote address tagged: “Towards a sustainable Livestock production system for National economic development” on Tuesday, November 14, in Abuja at the 12th joint annual meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) and the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN).

The APC chairman stressed that research is needed to drive development along the value chain of the livestock production system, from primary production to market, to the overall benefit of our national economy.

He also called for the development of a variety of maize that will be meant exclusively for poultry, monogastric and dairy feeding, arguing that such will be a viable and more sustainable option of the transportation of the required grain, to save the collapsing poultry industry.

According to him, improved feeds and feeding programmes are therefore important components of sustainable production systems, to optimize productivity and efficiency, digitization and decision support tools can support farmers in better management of their livestock, for instance, for more resource- and cost efficiency.

“It’s obvious the livestock sector is a critical component of our economy that should be taken seriously especially considering Mr President’s food security agenda and economic growth plan. Therefore, we should pay attention to the following:

“Our nation has to pay full attention and commitment to research and innovation as twin tools for the development of our livestock. We advocate a Triple Helix Model that loops Research/Innovation with Industry/Development and Government Policy.

    “Research is expected to support the development of animal agriculture in many ways, perhaps the most important being, the enhancement of livestock productivity which leads to a more efficient utilization of available resources;

    He further stated: “Strategies should therefore embody adequate economic returns to livestock farmers; maintenance of natural resources and productivity; minimal adverse environmental effects through climate-smart production practices; optimal production with minimal external inputs; and satisfaction of human food and income needs, as well as, rural families’ social needs;

    “Areas requiring attention for R and D include i) farm system approach, ii) Feed (arid zones, semi-arid and sub-humid zones, highlands, humid zones), iii) health and iv) genetic improvement; development of is a new variety of maize that will be meant exclusively for poultry, monogastric and dairy feeding. This will be a viable and more sustainable option for to importation of the required grain, to save the collapsing poultry industry, a sub-sector that is worth about N1.6 trillion, according to the CBN (2019). It is important to note that this represents about 25% contribution to the agricultural GDP;

    “R and D are also most urgently needed in the development of new breeds of cattle for increased meat and milk production, poultry strains that are resistant to heat stress, as well as, sheep and goats for improved hides and skin. Also, there more pressing need for genetic improvement of indigenous breeds of all livestock species for resistance to all endemic diseases for a sustainable national livestock production system;

“It’s also pertinent for both Animal Scientists and Veterinarians and is key to the development of our Animal Husbandry industry. The animal is one and must be seen as an entity that has to be maintained by the two professionals.

    “While the animal scientists can deploy R and D in the vast fields of physiology, breed improvement, nutrition, housing, and welfare; the Veterinarian should equally employ R and D in health improvement of the animal, in the development of vaccines, control of zoonotic diseases and screening against emerging diseases and disease-causing organisms;

“It is expedient that with concerted efforts of both professions, working towards a unified goal, for the attainment of increased livestock productivity, utilizing a sustainable production system, the livestock sub-sector will be seen to take a great leap to the forefront, as the leading foreign exchange earner for the country.
