    2017 AYC: Glo salutes Flying Eagles over win

    Nigeria’s biggest corporate supporter of football, Globacom, has congratulated the Flying Eagles on their  victory over Burundi and subsequent qualification for the  next round of the 2017 African Youth Championship qualifiers.

    The Flying Eagles defeated hard –fighting Burundi U-20 team  2 – 1 in the second leg encounter played at U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Saturday. The team, which won the first leg played in Burundi a fortnight ago by a lone goal, thus qualified for the next round on 3 – 1 goals  aggregate.

    In a statement released on Sunday in Lagos, Globacom praised the team on the victory, and urged them to work assiduously towards qualifying for the tournament.

    Globacom advised: “The Flying Eagles should leave no stone unturned as they work toward qualifying for the 2017 African Youth Championship.  We urge the technical crew to ensure that the team emerges victorious in the next round, and thus consolidate the team’s position as the number one U-20 team in Africa.”

    The next African U-20 Youth Championship comes up in Zambia in 2017.The Flying Eagles are the defending champions’ and have won the trophy seven times.

    Glo offers value with Data Overload

    Globacom has again re-entrenched  its data pedigree with a bouquet of new data plans. The biggest offer is the N8,000 subscription which, instead of the old 24GB, now gives the customer a whopping 48GB of data.

    While announcing the new plan tagged Data Overload, the network disclosed that subscribers can now receive up to double the data volume previously available on every plan.

    An analysis of the offer indicates that the N1,000 plan which would normally give the subscriber 1.5GB of data now offers 2GB, but the N2,000 plan which used to  come with 3GB of data now has 6GB data.

    In the same vein, subscribers will now get 10GB of data for N2,500 plan instead of 5GB and 12GB for N3,000 instead of 6GB  data which the plan offered before.

    As children all over the world mark the International Children’s Day, the nation’s most preferred data network, Globacom, has urged Nigerian children to imbibe the habit of honesty and hardwork.

     Globacom also advised them to eschew vices such as greed and laziness.

    In a goodwill message issued by the telecoms network from its headquarters in Lagos in commemoration of the event, Globacom advised “children to be obedient, respectful and exhibit good virtues at home and in school. The company said this will help the children  to achieve their desired academic goals and imbue them with the well-rounded development they need to become successful leaders of tomorrow.”

    Globacom underscored the potentials of Nigerian children as world leaders in various disciplines, adding that given the right education and environment, they will excel beyond expectations as they are highly talented.

    “Our children are our future, so we must take our commitment to children seriously and ensure that they are properly trained and well taken care of as we prepare them for future leadership of the nation”, the statement added.

    The telecoms network also advised all stakeholders in public and private sectors, education administrators and religious leaders to pay more attention to programmes that will give our children all-round development.

    RED Media co-founder Adebola Williams has been signed on as a brand ambassador by Nigeria’s next generation network, Globacom. Williams, who is among the new set of brand ambassadors signed on by Globacom, has begun work by taking part in a television commercial being aired in Nigeria and globally through CNN.

    William’s engagement signifies a new resolve by Globacom to widen its scope to include younger and hardworking Nigerian entrepreneurs whose exploits and allied endeavour are providing inspiration for the younger generation.

    Globacom, it was learnt, also plans to demonstrate to Nigerian youths that without being in sports and entertainment, they could still be rewarded and celebrated so long as they showed diligence in their chosen areas of endeavour, especially, entrepreneurship.

    A co-owner of highly successful brands, the Future Awards Africa, Y! Africa and YNaija.com, Williams played significant roles in the rebranding of President Muhammadu Buhari and contributed significantly to the President’s youth-oriented campaign events.

    Williams, an alumnus of the London School of Journalism, London School of Marketing and School of Media and Communications of the Pan African University, recently became an Obama Mandela Washington Fellow.

    Glo sponsors global ICC Arbitration confab

    The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), organisers of the first ever Africa Regional Arbitration conference has announced Nigeria’s data masters, Globacom as its official sponsor.

    The three-day conference scheduled to hold at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos has the theme: “Arbitration and Africa: Prospects and Challenges.”

    The conference, expected to draw delegates from all over the world, is being organised by the International Court of Arbitration, an arm of the ICC, in conjunction with the ICC, Nigeria.

    A statement from the organisers of the event said the conference will focus on the relationship between inward foreign investment in emerging markets in Africa, the types of disputes which may arise, and the African experience in arbitration proceedings.

    The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the conference which will also be attended by legal practitioners from across the world.

    Globacom, in a statement, described the conference as timely and consistent with the rising profile of alternative dispute resolution globally.

    “We are delighted to sponsor this strategic conference at this point in the country’s history. Conflicts are inevitable in any society, but it is of utmost importance that there are many reliable avenues for the resolution of these conflicts for social harmony and business activities to thrive.     Glo launches Talk Special, reloads three other products

    Globacom has moved to enhance the communication experience of subscribers on its platform with the launch of a new product called Talk Special. It also reloaded three other products which were launched recently to boost the power of Nigerians to use their phones for education, social and business purposes.

    The repackaged products are Campus Booster, which is now called Campus Booster Plus Voice, Twin Bash and the Glo N2500 data plan which has been reloaded to give 5GB data bundle per month instead of the previous 4.5GB data bundle.

    In a press statement issued in Lagos on Monday, Globacom explained that Talk Special gives subscribers six times the value of the subscribed amount and is specially designed for subscribers who use more talk time and less data. The product also gives subscribers additional data to gift to another Glo customer for free.

    Globacom stated that, in the Talk Special offer, a N100 subscription will give the subscriber N400 talk-time to call all networks and 75MB data worth N300. The 75MB data includes 25MB free data that can be gifted to friends and loved ones. To enjoy the unmatched benefits of the offer, customers are to dial *303# to select their bundle of choice from the N100, N200, N500, N1,000, and N5,000 available denominations.

    Globacom has sustained its lead in internet subscriptions in the telecoms market as the industry report for the first quarter of this year shows that the company strengthened its position as Nigeria’s preferred network for new data subscribers.

    In a statement, the telco said in the report released by the industry regulator, covering the first three months of the year, Globacom added 1,448,354 new internet subscribers on its network during the period. The figures, as released on monthly basis, shows that for the month of January, Globacom had 354,178; for the month of February 248,593 and for March it had 845,583, bringing its total internet customers as at the end of the quarter to 26,530,420.

    Globacom’s cumulative figure of 1,448,354 for the three months under review represents 80% of the total number of 1,820,651 new customers who subscribed to internet services of the four major telecom operators in the first quarter of this year.

    Airtel recorded 319,229 new data subscribers for the three months, while Etisalat had an addition of 53,068 new internet users on the network during the period. The combined figure for the two companies makes up the remaining 20 per cent of the total figure of 1,820,651 new internet subscribers for the quarter.

    In contrast, MTN which started the quarter with 39,924,737 data customers ended it with 33,356,595. This indicates a massive loss of over 6.5million internet subscribers in just three months.

    A comparative analysis of the corresponding period in 2015 showed that Glo had 946,202 new internet customers, MTN recorded 1,286,205, Airtel had 2,331,160 while Etisalat had 3,994,810 new data subscribers.

    Glo wins three industry awards

    Gloacom has recorded another feat in the annual Beacon of ICT Awards winning in three categories at the awards held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos at the weekend.

    The company came tops in the “Internet Company of the Year,” “Best GSM Company of the Year” and “Enterprise Solutions Provider of the Year” categories.

    The organisers of the award announced Globacom as winners in the three categories after an online voting conducted from November last year.

    Globacom, the organisers said, earned the voters’ approval as Internet Company of the Year for its outstanding achievement in the data market in 2015.

    Facts including industry statistics which showed that 53 per cent of new internet subscribers in the last 12 months chose Globacom and the company’s emerging status as the leading operator in the data market were cited by the organisers as reasons for the award.

    Communications Week Media also noted that Glo won the GSM Company of the Year because of its continued pioneering role in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry with its innovative products and quality of services.

    The publication added that Globacom won the Enterprise Solutions Provider Award because the company had through its end-to-end backbone infrastructure and customer-focused business solutions become the preferred service provider for several corporate organisations.

    The ceremony was chaired by Chairman of Open Media and former Executive Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe. Zenith Bank, Vodacom, Rack Centre, DHL, GT Bank, Phase 3 Telecoms and Wakanow were some of the winners in different other categories.

    The company had won the Best Telecoms Company of the Year, Most Innovative Mobile Player of the Year and Undersea Cable Company of the Year at the 2015 edition of the event.

    The Beacon of ICT Awards was instituted to reward the vision and enterprise of individuals and companies that have contributed to the growth of the ICT industry in a particular year.

    Glo opens virtual data supermart

    TELECOMS firm Globacom has launched the “Glo Data Supermart”, which bunched all data services into a one-size-fits-all package for the convenience of subscribers.

    It said the data supermart offer can be accessed by dialing *777#.

     “We want to reward our customers by giving them more value for their money in a comforting and less stressful manner.

    “That is why we are giving unbelievable value for our data offering to enable subscribers browse, download and surf the Internet without stress,” Globacom said in a statement in Lagos yesterday.

     Under the package, subscribers will get, on monthly basis, 1.5 GB data with just N1,000 recharge, 3 GB with N2,000, 4.5 GB with N2,500, 6 GB with N3,000 recharge and 9 GB with N4,000.

    The statement added: “The Booster plans are key ingredients of the Glo Data Supermart, which are designed to replenish data plans whenever a subscriber  runs short of data. A N200 Booster plan will give the user 300MB of data volume for a weekly or daily plan while N500 Booster gets the subscriber 1GB data on the monthly plan.”
