  • Nollywood Stars pop-up channel returns to DStv, Gotv

    AFRICA Magic is turning up the heat and making this October one to remember with the return of the Africa Magic Nollywood Stars Pop-Up channel on DStv and GOtv.

    Launching on Sunday, 6 October and running till Wednesday, 6 November 2019, Africa Magic Nollywood Stars will take all active DStv and GOtv Max and Plus customers on a roller coaster ride filled with drama, comedy, suspense, intrigue from the biggest Nollywood titles, 24 hours and seven days a week with no repeats. It will air on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29

    Channels Director, Africa Magic, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said the return of the channel will be a treat to DStv and GOtv customers this October offering uninterrupted Nollywood entertainment at no extra cost. “Africa Magic is undoubtedly the home for first-class movies and series from Nollywood. We have curated the biggest Nollywood movies – both new and epic – that have featured on our channels and will air them for one month with no repeats”.

    Among the stars who will grace this pop-up channel are Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Majid Michel, Deyemi Okanlawon, Blossom Chukwujekwu and many more. The pop-up channel will delight viewers with huge titles such as ‘The Big Fat Lie’, ‘Getting Over Him’, ’72 Hours’, ‘Brother Jekwu’, ‘Remember Me’ and ‘What Lies Within’.

    Also on the line-up will be the big wins from the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards; Isoken for Best Movie West Africa, Best Supporting Actress Drama (Lydia Forson), Best Director in a Movie, Alter Ego for Best Writer, Best Actress (Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde) and Lotana for Best Art Director.

  • Special Ramadan pop-up on DStv, GOtv

    MultiChoice Nigeria is set to launch a dedicated Ramadan pop-up channel to cater for the spiritual needs of Muslim subscribers on DStv and GOtv throughout the Ramadan.

    The dedicated Ramadan pop-channel will open on May 5 and run till June 4, the last day of the Holy Month.

    The channel, which will be available to active subscribers on all DStv packages, including DStv Now, as well as GOtv Plus and GOtv Max customers, will broadcast local Ramadan-related content.

    The special pop-up channel will provide subscribers with access to Ramadan-focused lifestyle, movies, talk shows, music and kiddies’ programming. Similarly available on the Ramadan channel are the daily call to prayers, docuseries, cooking shows and programmes on the conduct and obligations of Muslims during Ramadan.

    The Chief Executive Officer, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, explained that the channel will provide wholesome programmes and shows to strengthen the belief of the Muslim faithful, as well as entertain them throughout Ramadan.

    He said: “We are delighted to launch the Ramadan Pop up Channel, which is a platform carefully created to provide faith-nourishing television content for every member of the Muslim family, including the young ones.

    “The month of Ramadan is an important one for Muslims worldwide, as it provides an opportunity for physical and spiritual purification through fasting, increase in worship and recitation of the Holy Quran. The Ramadan Pop up channel provides a platform for our subscribers to have access to programmes that increase their faith.”

  • GOtv expands local content offering to subscribers in Jos, Kaduna

    Digital Terrestrial Television service provider, GOtv, has announced the addition of nine new local channels to its subscribers in Jos and Kaduna from today and Thursday respectively. The channels will be available to subscribers on GOtv Max and Plus packages. The channels to be added are Spice TV, MiTV, WAP TV, ITV Benin, BISCON, Liberty TV, Tiwan Tiwan, R2TV and Rave.

    Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, said the additional local channels to subscribers in northern Nigeria is in line with the company’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s heritage, through making diverse cultural content available across its platforms.

    “One of our value propositions is to ensure that we have a varied range of local channels that cut across different genres for a more wholesome viewing experience for our customers. These channels offer originally produced programmes that cater to the different tastes and preferences of our customers. We are also excited to offer these channels as part of our efforts in enabling Nigeria achieve a speedy digital switch over,” he said.

    Ugbe also stated that no digital terrestrial television operator in Nigeria has shown more commitment and support for local content made in Africa for Africans than GOtv.

    GOtv currently has over 20 local channels across different genres, including news, movies and general entertainment on its Max package.

    With over 100 hours of new programming monthly, showcasing the latest trends, major international fashion shows, designer events and professional highlights of the fashion industry, Spice TV (channel 10) offers the most comprehensive and fastest review of fashion and lifestyle shows.

    MiTV (channel 94) broadcasts an array of entertainment programmes, news, family, business, music, sports, education, health and development issues from across the country, while WAP TV (channel 102) is a top-quality family entertainment from the stable of Wale Adenuga Productions of the SuperStory fame and other esteemed TV content producers across Nigeria.

    ITV Benin (channel 107) and BISCON TV (channel 108) are local television channels that showcase sports, business, politics, lifestyle, culture, arts and general entertainment programmes.

    Liberty TV (channel 110), a Kaduna-based television station, delivers a unique mix of English and Hausa content, while Tiwan Tiwan (channel 111) is a Yoruba language music and lifestyle channel.  R2TV (channel 112), a 24-hour entertainment channel broadcasting in English language, feature originally produced and licensed music, fashion, theatre, dance, drama, movies, talk shows, cooking shows, docuseries and reality shows.

  • GOtv ‘Top Up’ offer ends in 30 days

    The three-month long GOtv “Top Up” campaign has entered its final phase and will end on 15 April. The campaign, launched by MultiChoice on 15 January, gives subscribers on GOtv Plus, GOtv Value and GOtv Lite packages the opportunity of getting an upgrade to GOtv Max by paying a reduced fee of N2,500 instead of N3,200, while GOtv ‘tops up’ with N700. While, the outstanding one month provides an opportunity for customers on lower GOtv packages renew their subscription by paying N2, 500.

    The upgrade will give customers access to a wide range of exciting contents on GOtv MAX.   • BBNaija airs past highlights, Double Wahala reunion show

    AS the countdown to the eagerly anticipated fourth season of Big Brother Naija heats up, MultiChoice Nigeria is treating fans of the popular reality TV show to an exclusive reunion show and special pop-up channel on DStv and GOtv.

    The BBNaija pop-up channel opened on Friday, March 1, at 10am and will run till Sunday, March 31, at midnight on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29, featuring highlights from the previous two seasons – See Gobbe and Double Wahala.

    The excitement goes a notch higher with a special reunion show which will air from Monday, 18 March to Sunday, 31 March, featuring the stars of the BBNaija Double Wahala season. The BBNaija pop-up channel is available to active customers on DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, Access and GOtv Max and Plus.

    This has been the most anticipated BBNaija season yet since the announcement of its return for a fourth season in January. Auditions for the show recorded a massive turnout in eight locations across the country followed by an innovative online audition process which closed on the 27th of March. The pop-up channel will take fans and viewers alike on a trip down memory lane while whetting their appetites on the start of the new season.

  • GOtv to broadcast Madrid derby live

    The 164th Madrid derby between fierce city rivals, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, taking place at the Wanda Metropolitano today will be broadcast live on GOtv.

    The La Liga encounter, which will be broadcast on SuperSport Select 4 (channel 34) at 4:15 pm, is exclusive to GOtv MAX subscribers.

    The two giants are meeting for the second time this season. The first encounter at Real’s Santiago Bernabéu in September ended goalless.

    Two points separate the teams, with Atletico occupying the second position on the La Liga standings with 44 points, while Real are third with 42 points. Real could, however, leapfrog their neighbors should they win and put themselves five points behind leaders, Barcelona, with whom they played a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey semi-final.

    Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has hit form right in time for the Los Blancos, as they won their last five games in all competitions before Wednesday’s draw.

  • MultiChoice launches three NTA channels on GOtv

    MultiChoice Nigeria has expanded its free-to-air (FTA) news, politics and entertainment channel offerings on GOtv with the introduction of three new channels from the stable of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

    The 24-hour channels – NTA 2, NTA Parliament and NTA News 24 – begun airing on January 31 and are available to GOtv customers on MAX, Plus Value and Lite packages.

    NTA News 24 (GOtv channel 46) is an English language general news channel, providing current affairs, business, social, economy, sports and entertainment news as well as in-depth discussions and analyses of topical issues by experts on current regional and international developments. NTA 2 (GOtv channel 114) is a general entertainment channel providing movies, music, events and talk shows among others, while NTA Parliament (GOtv channel 115) will focus on live coverage of sittings of the Senate, House of Representatives, state assemblies, as well as discussions and analysis of political, economic, social technological and legal issues affecting Nigeria.

  • Halita drama series berths on Africa Magic

    DSTV and GOtv viewers across Africa will, from February 4, 2019, be treated to a new drama series, Halita, on Africa Magic Family (DStv channel 154 and GOtv channel 2).

    The series which will be showing every weeknight at 7pm WAT, is set in Northern Nigeria and tells the story of a young woman who is forced to flee the village and a crooked suitor, only to face the intrigue and drama of a new life in the city with a powerful family.

    According to Channel Director, Africa Magic, Wangi Mba Uzoukwu, “Halita demonstrates yet again our commitment to telling the best stories out of Africa for Africa. It is a tale of family, fortune and fate, and is guaranteed to provide the exciting entertaining content that the Africa Magic channels are renowned for. The production values are stellar, and the performances are worthy of critical acclaim. Lovers of exciting African entertainment content would do well to tune in and watch the show.”

    The cast of the new series includes a blend of established and up and coming acts such as Ummi Baba Ahmed, Boma Elamiena, Eddy Madaki and Chisom Gabriella in the lead role as Halita.

  • La Liga live on DStv, GOtv

    Round 21 of the 2018/19 La Liga season will, again, offer Atletico Madrid the chance of putting pressure on leaders Barcelona, while Real Madrid will hope to bridge the gap between them and their table-topping rivals. The matches will be live on DStv and GOtv.

    Atletico play at home to sixth-placed Getafe on Saturday evening (4.15pm on SS7 & SelGo4), while Barca will be in action away to Girona on Sunday (4.15pm on SS7 & SelGo4). Diego Simeone’s side will, on the evidence of the 3-0 thumping of Huesca last week, fancy their chances of picking up all three points and move within two points of Barcelona, who will seek to restore their five-point advantage against Girona.

    Real Madrid will hope to see their two rivals slip up, as they bid to revive their title hopes. They moved to third on the table with a 2-0 win over Sevilla last weekend and will be favourites to build further momentum when they play away to Espanyol on Sunday night (8.45pm on SS7 & SelGo4).

    Elsewhere, Karl Toko Ekambi and Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal will seek to halt their slide toward the foot of the table when they head to the Mestalla to face Valencia on Saturday night (6.30pm on SS7A & SelGo4). Villarreal are winless in their last seven matches across all competitions and have slipped into the red zone of La Liga.

    Sevilla will look to reinforce their place in the top four when they face Levante on Saturday (on SS7 & SelGo4), while Athletic Bilbao will look to maintain their promising recent form with a win at home to Real Betis (Saturday, 8.45pm on SS7/SS10 & SelGo2/SelGo4). Also on Saturday, Leganes will take on Eibar (6.30pm on SS7 & SelGo4).

    Sunday will see clashes between Real Valladolid and Celta de Vigo (12pm on SS7/SS10 & SelGo2/SelGo4) as well as Real Sociedad and Huesca (6.30pm on SS6).
