    Gunmen kidnap pharmacist in Plateau

    Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Plateau State, Kim Bot, has been kidnapped in Jos North Local Government Area.

    The Nation learned that Bot was driving home about 8pm Wednesday when the gunmen, who had mounted a road block in the Laminga area of the council, flagged him down. Immediately he stopped, he was forced out of his vehicle and taken away.

    A member of the association, who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the incident. He said the kidnappers are yet to get in touch with Bot’s family and the association.

    Residents of Lamingo have lamented that the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) road has become a den of kidnappers and other undesirable elements.

    A resident, Ibrahim Dalyop, said: “The rate of kidnapping in this area is alarming; there is no week without a report of kidnapping or robbery. We appeal to the government and security agencies to come to our aid.

    Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo, who confirmed the incident, said the command has swung into action to arrest the culprits and rescue Bot.

    Gunmen kill nine in Plateau community

    No fewer than nine people were yesterday confirmed to have been killed by gunmen at  Adu village in Kwallu District of Bassa Local Government of Plateau State.

    Spokesman for  Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) in charge of Kaduna and Plateau states, Capt. James Oya, confirmed  to The Nation on the phone that eight persons were shot in Bassa Local Government on Sunday night as a result of an attack.

    “Yes, I have confirmed the killing, it is really unfortunate. When troops arrived the place, the attackers had fled. So, five people were killed, while six were taken to hospital. But unfortunately, three died in hospital, making it a total of eight people. While three are hospitalised.”

    The spokesman for Miango Youths Development Association, Nuhu Bitrus, confirmed the death of the villagers to reporters in Jos yesterday.

    According to him, “nine persons were killed yesterday (Sunday) in an attack at Adu village. It happened around 9pm.”

    Bitrus said the attack had made the community to cancel its activities earlier planned for the celebration of Nigeria’s  63rd independence anniversary and had instead, turned the event slated for Monday (yesterday) into a day of mourning and prayer for the safety of the people.

    The youth leader said: “We are not happy that we are today mourning the death of nine of our people at Adu village.”

    “It is unfortunate that while others are celebrating Nigeria’s 63rd  independence, we are gathering in Kwallu to bury our people. As a community, we had planned to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd independence celebration today (Monday) with a lot of activities but we are not doing that anymore. We have turned the event into a prayer day for the safety of our communities.”

    The youth leader called on the government at all levels to stop further attacks in Bassa communities.

    Gunmen kidnap 25 worshippers in Ondo

    • Eight escape hours after abduction

    Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 25 members of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Igan, Akure, Ondo State capital.

    The CAC members were said to have been kidnapped by five gunmen around 3pm on Friday while they were travelling for a funeral in Ifon, a community in Ose Local Government Area of the state.

     Eight of the abductees, however, escaped hours after they were kidnapped.

     Their escape, it was gathered, was made possible by the hot chase the combined operatives of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, the anti-kidnapping unit of the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Army gave the kidnappers.

    A member of the church, who pleaded anonymity, said the bus conveying the kidnapped choir members was abandoned by the roadside.

    A woman who spoke with our correspondent said that two of her family members were among the abducted church members.

    The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the victims were waylaid by five gunmen at Ajagbale via Elegbeka along the Ifon-Owo highway and forcibly taken into the bush.

    The Commander, Ondo State Security Network, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the escape of the eight victims, said the security personnel were on the trail of the kidnappers in the Owo/Ose axis to ensure that the remaining victims were released.

    Gunmen yesterday  razed the country home of a House of Representatives member for Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency of Imo State, Chief Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu (Omeogo).

    A source in the community, who simply gave his name as Peter Anaele, said the gunmen stormed the house at Isioma, Abara village, Amanator Okporo community in Orlu Local Government in the morning.

    Narrating what happened, he said the lawmaker was not at home when the gunmen came, adding that they were armed with guns, explosives and other dangerous weapons. “They held the domestic staff of the lawmaker hostage at gunpoint and looted his belongingsproperties and valuables, made videos of the staff, and threatened more severe attacks. They then poured petrol, which they brought in with two 20-liter kegs, on the buildings and set the houses ablaze with explosives, bombs, and dynamites.”

    He said everyone, including the domestic staff, had to escape from the compound before the hoodlums left with their loot through the front gate, allowing buildings to burn down completely in the compound after setting it on fire.”

    Gunmen raze residence of Imo lawmaker

    Gunmen on Thursday razed the country home of the Federal House of Representatives member for Orlu, Orsu, and Oru East Federal Constituency of Imo State, Chief Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu (Omeogo).

    A source in the community, Peter Anaele, said the gunmen stormed the residence at Isioma, Abara village, Amanator Okporo Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State in the early hours of Thursday.

    Narrating what happened, he said while the lawmaker was not at home when the gunmen stormed, the hoodlums, armed with guns, explosives and other dangerous weapons, invaded Omeogo’s residence and rounded up domestic staff at gunpoint.

    “They looted properties and valuables, made videos of the staff and threatened more severe attacks. They then poured petrol, which they brought in with two 20-liter kegs, on the buildings and set the houses ablaze with explosives, bombs, and dynamites,” he said.

    He said everyone, including the domestic staff, escaped from the compound before the hoodlums left with their loots through the front gate.

    Gunmen have killed three persons in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

    Others sustained varying degree of injuries from the gunshots of the hoodlums.

    The gunmen were said to have stormed Alalubosa community, Oko Olowo, Asa Local Government on Tuesday night.

    The hoodlums allegedly entered the community, shooting sporadically, leading to pandemonium in the area.

    Sources in the area said the gunmen stormed the community at about 10pm when the residents were enjoying cool weather outside their houses, adding that the residents ran for their lives when the attackers decided to attack the houses one after another.

    “One girl, Semiat Mukaila, was shot in the arm, while Abdullahi Awe’s leg was broken with gun butt. They are both receiving treatment at hospital. The hoodlums also shot Isiaq Abdullahi in the arm.

    After, they shot another resident, AbdulRasheed Alafara, in the leg and he tried to escape from the scene, the attackers pursued him and gave him machete cuts until he died.

    “Members of the vigilance team also succeeded in killing one of the suspected kidnappers,” a source said.

    Reports also had it that the gunmen, numbering six, rained bullets for more than 30 minutes when they entered the community, and that members of the local vigilance team were able to gun down one of the hoodlums, while others ran away.

    Police spokesperson Okasanmi Ajayi confirmed the incident.

    He said that the police command had drafted its men to the scene.

    Gunmen have killed three persons in Kwara state capital.

    Reports also had it that the gunmen, numbering six, rained bullets for more than 30 minutes and members of the local vigilante team were able to gun down one of the hoodlums while others ran away.

    The source in the area gave kudos for bravery of the men of the local vigilante team, appealing to concerned authorities to provide them with adequate ammunition to combat insurgents.

    Police spokesperson Okasanmi Ajayi confirmed the report.

    He said that the Police Command had drafted its men to the scene.

    Gunmen abduct Onitsha market leader

    Chairman of Mgbuka Amazu market, Onitsha, Anambra State, Chief Enibe Francis, has reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen.

    The Nation gathered that the victim was abducted in the early hours of Monday, after opening the market as directed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

    The governor had weeks ago, directed market leaders in the state to open their markets on Mondays, including observing prayer sessions and cleaning the markets and surrounding drainages.

    According to market sources, the victim was beaten to stupor and dumped into a waiting vehicle before being whisked away to an unkwown destination.

    President of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna, while confirming the incident, said he had been briefed, adding that efforts were on to establish contact with the abductee.

    “Francis was said to have been whisked away when about five full armed men stormed his shop, shot indiscriminately into the air, beat him to stupor and dumped him into the boot of their SUV vehicle,” he said.

    When contacted, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the situation was being monitored.

    Gunmen shoot three Poly students, kidnap one in Nasarawa

    Suspected gunmen on Monday, September 26, reportedly shot three students of the Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

    The Nation learnt that the assailants also abducted one female student simply identified as Ajoke, an ND ll student of Science Laboratory Technology.

    The students, who sustained gunshot injuries, were said to be receiving treatment at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia.

    The students who were shot are identified as Freedom Luka and Ogwuche Janet, both students pursuing HND I in Public Administration and HND II in Business Administration and Management respectively. Additionally, Danladi Nicholas, who is seeking admission, was also affected.

    The attack was confirmed at a press briefing on Tuesday, September 26, by the institution’s Rector, Dr. Justina Anjiode-Kotso.

    Anjiode-Kotso, who was represented by Mr Louis John Ogah, the Deputy Rector Academic, said the matter had been reported to the security agencies in the state.

    According to him, investigation into the ugly development is ongoing to ascertain the true situation of the incident.

    He added that security operatives were on the trail of the abductors to ensure that the victims were rescued unhurt.

    When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nasarawa State Command, DSP Ranham did not pick up his calls or respond to a text message sent to his mobile as of the time of filing this report.
