“As a leading global ICT solutions provider, Huawei has been witnessing, participating and being a part of what has happened in the ICT development in Nigeria. Since starting operations in Nigeria in 1999, Huawei has been working with local operators to provide safe, stable and high-quality communication networks in the country; currently covering about half of the population,” Mr. Zhang said.

Apart from increased connectivity, Huawei is also committed to building skills at all levels of the society by working with universities and other partners to foster ICT talents and training ICT practitioners.  The company has trained more than 20,000 ICT engineers who have become the main workforce to guarantee the network running of this country. • Huawei to boost Nigeria’s ICT market

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) firm Huawei is poised to boost the ICT market in Nigeria.

Huawei Enterprise Nigeria Chief Executive Officer Tank Li spoke at the Huawei Nigeria Eco-Connect 2019.

He said the company would achieve this through intensified partners’ relationship.

A statement from the firm signed by Mr. Olusoji Adeyemo quoted Li as saying the world was in an age of rapid advancements in ICT innovation solutions, where technologies such as 5th Generation (5G) network, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing were becoming the new reality.

He said Nigeria being the largest ICT market in Africa would benefit from partnering with Huawei.

According to him, in order to deepen its channel partners’ relationship and boost Nigeria’s ICT market, the company organised the “Huawei Nigeria Eco-Connect 2019”.

Li added: “Today, I feel really amazed. Three years ago we only had 20, or maximum 25, channel partners in this kind of event, but today, we have more than 500 channels registered. This shows the great confidence that we put in this country, Nigeria. It is still the biggest economic entity in the African continent.

“In our enterprise business, our core value is really to build an ecosystem with our partners together. In 2019, we will raise our connection with the partners ecosystem and we will call it ‘Huawei Insight’, that means we will enlarge our collaboration with all the partners.

“Our partners are the most important platform. Huawei is willing and ready to share the profit with its local partners for a sustainable ecosystem, where all partners can grow together.”

Huawei Cloud Business Unit Vice President Edward Deng said Huawei Cloud was now available in Nigeria, offering commercial services.

“We are looking forward to Huawei Cloud’s innovative technologies and services, such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence-assisting African and by extension Nigeria governments, carriers, and enterprises in a variety of industries such as finance, energy, agriculture, to leapfrog to a fully-connected, intelligent era.”

Over 500 Huawei channel partners attended the event.

  • A Stylish and Budget Friendly Smartphone with a Bigger Display and Better Selfies

Huawei fans received good news this year when Huawei decided to launch its latest HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 in Nigeria. A smartphone series that has been known throughout the years to be pocket-friendly, fashionable and well-suited for users, and this year’s addition maintains this legacy. HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 features a large 6.26-inch HUAWEI Dewdrop display to maximize the display area for the tech-savvy young users and a 16MP front camera for better selfies.

    HUAWEI Dewdrop Display

HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019’s display is one of the main attractions somebody can spot once they lay eyes on this handset. It features the premium HUAWEI Dewdrop display with a 6.26 inch screen that provides a higher quality entertainment experience for users who want to get a bigger screen area for watching videos or playing games.

HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 has an extraordinary build quality and holding it in hand feels like having a flagship device. The look is super sleek and even though the screen measures over six inches, it is yet fairly manageable in the hand. The back of the device is ceramic and is coated with polycarbonate, which is resilient against day-to-day wear and tear. And since this device targets youth, Huawei has it in three energetic colors: Aurora Blue, Midnight Black and Coral Red – to attend to today’s millennials’ needs and demands.

    16MP Selfie camera

Huawei has integrated a 16MP front camera into a small notch that is situated on the vertical axis of the device. Because people come across some difficulties whey they want to capture a selfie – the shutter button may not be reachable, for instance, or it is a hassle to tap the screen even if a selfie stick is being used – Huawei has equipped this phone with two easy ways to take selfies: Gesture Control and Smile Detection.

Gesture Control: Once enabled, users can snap a selfie by just opening or closing their palm in front of the camera.

Smile Detection: If enabled, users can trigger the camera to snap a selfie by just smiling.

Two dual cameras on the back of the device – 13MP+2MP – are positioned at the top corner of the rear on the phone. The primary 13MP camera has a wide aperture of f/1.8 with 16 virtual f-stops (supporting f/1.8-6) to provide granular controls over depth of field effects. The HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 AI-powered real-time scene and object recognition technology can recognize 22 different categories of objects including blue skies, people, dogs and the beach. Once an object or a scene is identified, the smartphone automatically makes adjustments to produce the best possible results.

HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 is a great phone to have. It comes with a big screen display and a 16MP selfie camera with innovative ways of triggering the shutter. It looks great and it is only priced at NGN59,900.

  • Hottest smartphone trends for 2019: The Dewdrop magic is about bigger display and fantastic selfies

The HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 is set to take the Nigerian market by storm, blending advanced technology and trendy design at an affordable price. Huawei understands Nigerian’s behavior and needs, catering to their intensive social media use and tech-savvy nature with this high-quality smartphone, empowering them to unlock their potential, hence bringing to the market the first smartphone with the latest Dewdrop Display. 2019 is about new trends and great technology going mainstream, so let us dive right into the hip features of this newly launched gem!

A huge screen with the Dewdrop

The HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 displays 6.26 inch pearl-shaped notch – and one of the smallest Huawei notches to date and maximizes the amount of screen to users, becoming much higher than the industry body-to-screen ratio average, enabling the best video and gaming experience possible. Intricately placed in the middle of the device, the dewdrop notch does not disrupt the symmetry of the frontal view, making the display easy on the eyes.

    Great camera, incredible selfies

The smartphone features 13+2MP dual cameras, the front one being a 16MP one. The primary 13MP camera enables the user to take a portrait with clear separation between the primary object and background through the use of a shallow depth of field effect, or a landscape photo where every object in its field of view is clean and crisp.

Powered by AI, the camera has the ability to recognize objects in order to adjust colors accordingly, taking shots as best as possible. It can recognize objects across 22 different categories, most of which come from scenarios predicted to be encountered in today’s youth adventures such as ‘Dog’, ‘Cat’, ‘Beach’, ‘Waterfall’, ‘Text’ and more.

Moreover, the camera’s low light is highly advanced. Once Night Mode is enabled, the HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 digitally stitches together four photos taken in quick succession to produce an output that is clean and full of details. A similar method is also used for its HDR Mode where the device combines three images into one for improved color vibrancy and backlit performance.

    A huge battery

Knowing how much time Nigerians spend on their phones, the HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 houses a large 4000mAh battery, providing more than one-day worth of usage even for the most intensive users. That means even if a user forgets to charge the device overnight, it will still let them get through the next day with minimal use.

    Excellent identification methods

HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 features two highly efficient unlock features that help protect users’ privacy, while remaining fast and easy to use.  Leveraging AI and the front camera, the device can authenticate the identity of a user through the Face Unlock 2.0 feature, and unlock the device quickly, so users can dive right back into action. The second feature is the Fingerprint 4.0 identification technology, which allows users to unlock the device in less than 0.37 seconds. In addition, the fingerprint sensor also supports multiple functions, allowing users to take photo/video, stop alarm, answer call, browse photos or show the notification panel, and more. This makes the device extra handy!

No need for Nigerians to splurge for an expensive smartphone to get the features or digital quality they seek – the HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 makes great photography and technology accessible.

The HUAWEI Y7 Prime 2019 will be available for Pre-Order on Jumia and leading retailers across Nigeria from the 4th of March, 2019. As part of Pre-Order, Huawei will also be gifting customers with free Bluetooth Speakers with purchases of the smartphone for a limited time.

  • Glo, Huawei empower 30 varsities, 150 students

Nigeria’s second largest carrier, Globacom and global information communication technology (ICT) firm, Huawei Technologies have partnered to reward Nigerian students across institutions in the country with a combination of high-end smartphones and super-fast internet service. The programme, targeted at 30 universities and 150 Nigerian students, will be offering free Huawei smartphones loaded with six months unlimited Glo 4G data to five students and five Huawei routers with pre-loaded 60GB of Glo 4G data to the institution. The programme kicked off yesterday at the Babcock University, Ilishan, Ogun State, where the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof Iheayichukwu Okoro, led other members of the university to receive the routers.

The five outstanding final year students of Babcock University who received the Huawei Y5 smartphones were Dogo Edafe Bawa of Business Education, Olusoji Ifejesu Precious of Accounting Department, Ojutiku Toluwanimi Oluwaseun of Economics, Ajulibe Goziem Benjamin of Medical Laboratory Science and Anifowose Airat Morolake of Computer Science department.

  • Huawei: ‘Deep concerns’ over firm’s role in UK 5G upgrade

THE Defence Secretary has reportedly said he has “very deep concerns” about Chinese firm Huawei being involved in upgrading the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) mobile network.

Gavin Williamson’s comments – reported by the Times – came after some nations restricted use of the firm’s products in 5G networks over security concerns.

MI6’s head recently said Britain faced decisions on Chinese ownership of tech.

The UK says China is behind hackers targeting commercial secrets. Huawei denies any link to the Chinese state.

Mr Williamson reportedly said: “I have grave, very deep concerns about Huawei providing the 5G network in Britain. It’s something we’d have to look at very closely.”

Australia, New Zealand and the US have restricted use of Huawei technology in 5G mobile networks, and Mr Williamson said the UK would look at their example.

“We’ve got to recognise the fact, as has been recently exposed, that the Chinese state does sometimes act in a malign way,” he added.

Huawei was founded by a former officer in the People’s Liberation Army but the company denies having any ties to the Chinese government, beyond complying with tax laws.

The firm has strongly rejected any suggestion that it poses a security threat, saying it has “never been asked by any government to build any backdoors or interrupt any networks”.

Earlier this month, MI6 chief Alex Younger said the UK needed to “decide the extent to which we are going to be comfortable with Chinese ownership of these technologies”.

UK communications company BT has already said it is removing Huawei equipment from its 3G and 4G networks, and pledged not to use the firm’s products in the “core” of its 5G service.

Meanwhile, this week it confirmed that Huawei equipment was being removed from the heart of a communication system being developed for the UK emergency services, although it was not explicit as to why.

  • China detains ex-Canadian diplomat as Huawei CFO fights bail battle

A former Canadian diplomat has been detained in China, two sources said on Tuesday, just hours before a top executive at Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies is set to return to a Vancouver courtroom for a bail hearing.

The bail hearing has angered Beijing and the detention of the Canadian was believed to be part of  China desire to deal squarely with the scenario.

It was not immediately clear if the cases were related, but Canadian analysts had already predicted China would retaliate after the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou at the request of U.S. authorities.

The former diplomat is Michael Kovrig, who is based in China and works for the International Crisis Group, which said it was seeking his prompt and safe release.

Canadian foreign ministry officials said they were not immediately able to confirm that Kovrig was in detention.

China has threatened severe consequences unless Canada releases Meng immediately. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the matter is one for the courts to decide.

Tuesday will be the third day of bail hearings in a British Columbia court, where a judge will weigh final issues in determining whether Meng should be freed on bail while awaiting extradition proceedings.

Meng, 46, faces U.S. accusations that she misled multinational banks about Huawei’s control of a company operating in Iran.

Her actions reportedly put the banks at risk of violating U.S. sanctions, incurring severe penalties, court documents said.

The judge on Monday rolled the proceedings over to Tuesday because he wanted to hear more from both sides about the issue of surety – who will take responsibility for Meng’s actions if she were released.

Meng’s lawyer David Martin had offered her husband as surety.

But the judge and the public prosecutor questioned whether Liu Xiaozong, Meng’s husband, could perform this duty as he is not a resident of British Columbia and would not suffer if she were to breach her bail conditions.

Intent on getting Meng out of detention and into one of her two luxury homes in the city, defense lawyer Martin is offering up high-tech surveillance devices and a 24-hour security detail to ensure his client does not flee.

He has also proposed a C$15 million ($11.3 million) bail guarantee and pledged Meng would hand over all her passports and travel documents to Canadian police, the court heard.

The arrest has roiled markets over fears it will exacerbate tensions between the U.S. and China in trade negotiations that both sides have agreed must be concluded by March 1.

Speaking at a forum in Beijing on Tuesday, the Chinese government’s top diplomat, State Councillor Wang Yi, said the government kept constant watch on the safety of Chinese citizens abroad, though did not directly mention Meng’s case.

“For any bullying that wantonly violates the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens, China will never sit idly by,” state television quoted him as saying.

Huawei is the world’s largest supplier of telecommunications network equipment and second-biggest maker of smartphones, with revenue of about $92 billion last year.

Unlike other big Chinese technology firms, it does much of its business overseas.

U.S. officials allege the telecom giant was trying to use multinational banks to move money out of Iran.

Companies are barred from using the U.S. financial system to funnel goods and services to sanctioned entities.

Huawei and its lawyers have said the company operates in strict compliance with applicable laws. (Reuters/NAN)
