Watford to EPL clubs, Chinese Teams Ighalo goes for £17m

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands Watford want a minimum of 17 million pounds from English Premier League clubs interested in the signature of Odion Ighalo in the January transfer window.

The Nigeria international’s proposed move to West Brom is on the brink of collapse because the Baggies offered only £12m, the money they got from the sale of Berahino to Stoke City,  and that figure was deemed insufficient by Hornets suits.

In the last few hours, Chinese Super League teams have approached Watford over the availability of the Super Eagles’ hitman, and they were told he will cost more than £17 million.

According to Ighalo’s camp, the probability of the striker departing Vicarage Road before the close of the transfer window next week is high, put at seventy percent.

A decision on his future could be made before Sunday, January 29.

Ighalo on his way to China

ODION Jude Ighalo could be on his way out of English Premier League club, Watford as the money spinning Chinese League rekindle interest in him.

Watford are ready to cash in on Ighalo following fresh interest from a number of clubs in the Chinese Super League.

Ighalo, 27, twice turned down big-money moves to China in order to further his career at Vicarage Road, but Shanghai Shenhua, who placed a £37.5 million bid for the Nigerian international last season, are reportedly readying another bid for him.

Though Watford manager, Walter Mazzarri has said publicly Ighalo will be going nowhere, it is understood that the Hornets want him out considering his sensational goal drought this campaign, SuperSport writes.

He was the highest scorer in English football in 2015 but has only managed to find the back of the net once this term. Therefore, club and player may decide a change of scenery is best for the striker.

Should the move pull through, the former Udinese striker will form a potentially lethal partnership with Carlos Tevez up front for the big spenders.

Ighalo fires blank as Watford edge Hull City

DESPITE playing all 90 minutes, Super Eagles winger, Odion Ighalo couldn’t find the back of the net as Watford managed a 1-0 win over Hull City at the Vicarage Road Stadium in Saturday’s Premier League match.

Ighalo was expected to hit the goal scoring headlines after a poor run of form in the early part of the season, however, he couldn’t find his way through the tough tackling Hull City defenders.

An own goal from Michael Dawson in the 83rd minute was enough to separate the two teams and give Watford coach, Walter Mazzarri something to smile about.

In all, Ighalo has managed to score just one goal this season. He’ll be desperate to score more in their future matches if he’s to maintain his place in the starting line-up.

Ighalo opens score in Watford comeback

WATFORD produced a stunning performance to come from 2-0 down to beat West Ham.

Two headers from Michail Antonio put the hosts firmly in control with 33 minutes played.

However, Odion Ighalo’s deflected shot and a wonderful effort from Troy Deeney levelled it before the break.

Etienne Capoue’s powerful half-volley put the visitors in front and Jose Holebas sealed Watford’s first victory of the season with a shot from 18 yards out.

There had been little indication of what was to follow when Antonio headed home Dimitri Payet’s rabona cross with just over half an hour played.

The Hornets were utterly outplayed in the opening exchanges of this game and were lucky not to be further behind, Daryl Janmaat inexplicably passing the ball against his own post when under no pressure. Ighalo got the ball rolling for his side when he drifted inside from the left and his low shot went in after a kind deflection from James Collins.

Collins’ afternoon went from bad to worse just before the break when a breakdown in communication saw the Welsh international head the ball over the onrushing Adrian and Deeney picked up the loose ball before curling home a superb shot from just inside the area.

The Hammers had half-time to regroup but simply could not match Watford’s intensity in the second half.

Capoue scored his third goal of the season when a deep ball came to him at the back post and Holebas grabbed his first goal in English football with a shot from the edge of the area that Adrian should have done more to keep out.

In January, he will sign a professional contract with German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg after he emerged record top scorer at last year’s FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile.

Ighalo has now tipped the young striker for bigger things.

“Osimhen is a good player. He is young, fast, very sharp, he is the future of Nigeria,” remarked an impressed Ighalo. “I have watched him in training these past few days. He is a youngster who has confidence and he is not afraid to take on defenders; and with time and hard work, he will be one of the best.”

The win gives Chelsea boss Antonio Conte a 100% start in the Premier League after Monday’s victory against West Ham.

Odion Ighalo has tipped compatriot Isaac Success to be a big hit for Watford in the Premier League in the forthcoming season.

While the future of Ighalo at The Vic remains covered in mist, Success has more or less completed his move to the Hornets, signing a five-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2020-2021 season.

Like he did when Success joined Granada in 2014, Ighalo has helped the 20-year-old get familiarized to his new surroundings.

Odion Ighalo has attracted interests from several clubs, but it is up to Premier League club Watford to decide whether the Nigeria striker goes or stays, according to the player’s known agent Atta Aneke.

There have been reports of Watford deciding to cash-in on the Nigeria striker and while he admits there have been offers, he has insisted nothing has been decided yet contrary to other reports.

“The thing is we’re not actually sure ourselves because it all depends on what Watford are willing to do,” he said to AfricanFootball.com.

“I’ll probably have more information in a few weeks, but for now nothing has really been decided but there are offers and we will weigh the options.”

Ighalo himself has said in a recent interview he will be happy to stay put at Watford.

Ighalo wants to do double over Liverpool

Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo is aiming to do a double against Liverpool when he leads Watford attack this weekend.

The former Granada striker scored a brace in the 3-0 home win over Liverpool in December and he is targeting a repeat.

Ighalo said he is expecting a very tough game at Anfield on Sunday, but believe Watford can do get good result with a better performance than they did in the first round.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” Ighalo told his club website.

“When we played them last time they had a new coach, they weren’t doing well, but now they are a better team.

“The whole team fought from the first minute for each other, we chased down every ball, we didn’t give them time to play.

“We have to fight the same way, probably even more than we did in the last game. It’s possible for us to win there, but we have to be determined and work hard to get the result.”

The former Flying Eagles captain has scored a total of 16 goals this season with 14 of them in the EPL.
