  •  Five teenagers in court for burglary, stealing

    Five teenagers who allegedly burgled a house and stole N85, 000 were on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The ages of the teenagers who are students ranged between 11years to 14 years, and they live at Ayobo, a suburb of Lagos.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offences were committed on April 23 at Comfort Ayeluina St., Ayobo, and Lagos.

    Donny said that the students went to the residence of one Mr Mohammed Olajire and burgled his room and stole N85, 000.

    Donny said that it was one of the neighbors who sighted the teenagers that raised an alarm.

    “The children were arrested in their different houses, “he said.

    The offences contravened Sections 285, 307 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    They all denied committing the offences.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Davies Abegunde, granted all the defendants’ bill in the sum of N30, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

    She adjourned the case until May 24 for mention.

     

  • Teenage girl arraigned for luring her girlfriend for gang-raping

    A 16-year-old girl (name withheld) was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court

    for allegedly luring her friend to a hotel for gang-raping.

    The accused, a student, who resides at Alagbado, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for conspiracy.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offence was committed on March 26 at Mega Funds Hotel, Alagbado.

    Ogu said the accused lured her friend (name withheld) to meet a boy at the hotel where she was allegedly gang-raped by four men
    now at large.

    The offence contravened Section 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until May 17 for mention.

     

  • Man in court for theft of motor parts

    Olalekan Olatise, 32, aluminium fabricator, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged vandalism and theft of motor parts valued N70, 000.

    The accused, who resides at No. 26, Bolaji Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 29, at about 2.00 p.m, at Sule Abubakar crescent, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos.

    Perezi said the accused entered the compound of the complainant, Mr Ojo Babajide, vandalised and stole the side mirror of a Lexus car valued N20, 000, and the side mirror and crown of a Toyota corolla car valued N50, 000.

    He said the accused was apprehended by the security guards in the estate, who found the stolen items in his possession and handed him over to the police.

    He said the offence contravened section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates three-year jail term for convicted offenders.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka granted the accused N50, 000 bails with two sureties in like sum.

    She said the sureties should show evidence of payment of two years of tax to Lagos state government and adjourned the case till May 2, for mention.

  • Generator mechanic arraigned for raping school girl

    A 20-year-old generator mechanic, Samson Ogunbanjo, who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl at knife-point and threatened to kill her, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused, who resides at No. 9, Agric Road, Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of rape and threat to life.

    The accused committed the offences on April 12 at No. 7, Ayinde St., Iju Isaga,  a Lagos suburb, according to Prosecutor Clifford Ogu.

    Ogu said the girl, who was returning home from school, was accosted by the accused who took her to his friend’s house before raping her.

    “He brought out a dagger and threatened to stab her if she refused to `cooperate’ with him.

    “She was rescued by some neighbours, who heard her screaming and reported the case to the police,’’ he said.

    The offences contravened Sections 137 and 156(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until May 22 for mention.

     

  • Two women in court over conspiracy, fraud

    Two women, Romoke Hamzat and Adijat Lasisi, were on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding their friend of N700, 000.

    The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Hamzat, 56, resides at No. 10, Ajigbontinu Str., Agege, Lagos while Lasisi, 40, lives at Oremeji St., Okekoto in Agege.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, said that the accused persons conspired and obtained N700, 000 from one Mrs Oluwatoyin Lawal, their friend, under pretence of helping her to purchase Shea butter and honey.

    He said the offence was committed in March, 2016 at the Agege Main Market.

    “The duo collected the money and promised to supply the goods to the complainant which they never did. Rather, they converted the N700, 000 to their own personal use.”

    Ayorinde said the accused disappeared after committing the fraud and was recently apprehended by the police.

    The offence contravened Section 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which carries a three-year imprisonment.

    Chief Magistrate Omolade Awope granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each, who must be gainfully employed.

    She said that the sureties must also show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case has been adjourned until April 26 for trial.

    Teenager docked for stabbing woman with broken glass

    A 16-year-old boy (name withheld) was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabbing a woman on the head with a broken glass.

    The accused, a secondary school student, who lives with his parents at Fagba area of Iju-Ifako, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on April 3 at the accused’s tenement building.

    Ogu said a fight ensued between the accused’s mother and the complainant, Mrs Jessica Nwosu, over washing of toilet.

    “The accused just came into the scene, broke a glass and stabbed the complainant on the head and cheeks for abusing her mother.’’

    The offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates seven years for grievous harm.

    The accused, however, entered a “not guilty’’ plea.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until May 8 for mention.

  • Man in court for defiling neighbour’s daughter

    A 28-year-oldman, Victor Onyekamuo, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s under- aged daughter, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The defendant, a trader, who resides at Bankole Street, Oregun, Ikeja is being tried for defilement.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on Feb. 21 at the defendant’s residence.

    Ogu said that the accused sent the girl on an errand and on her arrival shut the door and defiled her.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, entered a “not guilty” plea.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case till May 8 for mention.

  • Two men charged with theft

    Two men charged with theft

    Two unemployed men, who allegedly stole building materials valued at N570,000, were on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused — Saheed Muyideen, 38, Afeez Kareem, 28, — reside at Ojota area of Lagos and are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

    According to the prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, the accused committed the offences on March 16 at Iyana-Ipaja, a Lagos suburb.

    Inuoha said the accused stole 15 iron doors, a welding machine and a grinding machine, property of the complainant, Mr Ademola David, valued at N570,000.

    The accused were, however, caught at the point of selling the stolen items, he told the court.

    The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy.

    The accused, however, entered a `not guilty’ plea.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, in her ruling, granted the accused a bail of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

    She adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.

     

     

  • Man docked for raping, impregnating sister-in-law

    A 47-year-old man, Magaji Mohammed, who allegedly impregnated his sister in-law by raping her, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused, a driver who resides at 18, Atobaje St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on rape.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 2016 and Feb. 28, 2017 at the accused residence.

    Ogu said that the accused raped his 16-year-old sister -in-law, impregnated her and gave her a harmful drug to use with the intention to abort it.

    “The accused raped the girl when his wife traveled out of town. And when the girl discovered that she missed her period, she told the accused.

    “The accused gave the girl a herbal concoction which made the girl to abort the pregnancy,” he said.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 147 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, entered a “not guilty” plea.

    The chief magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until April 12 for mention.

  • Man docked over defilement of two year old girl

    A 37-year-old man, Johnson Ugwu, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s two-year-old girl.

    The defendant, a trader, who resides at 1, Duru Close, Shomolu, a suburb of Lagos, was docked on a count charge of defilement.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on March 26, at the accused residence.

    Ogu said that the girl was playing outside with her mates when the defendant called her inside.

    “The accused inserted his finger into the girl’s private part and she started bleeding.

    “The girl’s mother saw blood stains on her and she asked what happened, the girl pointed at the accused, “he said.

    Ogu said that the girl was taken to the hospital and the result showed that her private part was tampered with.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 26.
