How Facebook and social media can foster digital engagement

The conversation on how social media can foster political attachments through digital engagement has begun.
Stakeholders from Government Agencies, the private sector and the civil society alike have continued to hold talks and lively debates on issues affecting internet freedom and digital engagement by government agencies in Nigeria.
A round-table held in Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, last week, and several issues were discussed on the matter bordering on: data privacy and protection, law enforcement, libel, fake news, and digital engagement by the government. The round-table followed the first edition held in Abuja last year.
Effective digital engagement by government agencies remains a big priority for the Federal Government because of its immense potential, this was the position of Tolu Ogunlesi, the Head of Presidency Office of Digital Engagement (PODE). Ogunlesi was speaking at a stakeholder meeting on digital rights and digital engagement organised by Paradigm Initiative, Facebook and PODE.
Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, Gbenga Sesan emphasized the need for continuous conversation between stakeholders in the private sector, civil society and the government on digital rights issues in Nigeria.
“Digital right issues are far too important to our democracy and it is crucial that we engage in conversations with security agencies and public servants on how we can ensure freedom of people online while keeping the nation and citizens safe.”
In her remarks, Public Policy Manager, Africa of Facebook, Akua Gyeke said:
“Facebook is an important platform for political conversation in Nigeria, and we are happy to be a part of this. Facebook is dedicated to keeping people safe online, foster civility and responsible behaviour whilst promoting free expression and sharing.”

Tolu Ogunlesi, who led the conversation on a proposed Digital Engagement Policy for the Federal Government admitted that the Government had no current workable social media policies on ground.
He however assured all stakeholders in attendance that his office was working hard on creating digital engagement standards that would guide all government offices in their use of digital tools to ensure effective communication with the public.
“There is currently no social media policies for the Federal Government. This is understandable as social media use is relatively new in government circle. But this situation has led to inconsistency in the way government offices use digital media.
“We are currently working on creating a digital engagement policy for the federal government. It will provide guidelines on platforms to use, accounts administration, logo and naming standard, editorial policies, archival system, content process and management, among other things.”

BBNaija: Bambam and Teddy A finally get down

Bambam and Teddy A finally get down with each other.

In a week where 3 pairs have been nominated for eviction, this would not be a wrong time for both lovebirds to share a bit of closure.

Teddy A has continually prided himself as the most respected member of the House shunning every evil and vice, except of course of his love for cigars. These are the moments when he goes all sage on the housemates, inserting tit bits of wisdom in their acts.

Teddy A has always expressed thoughts that he is a father and in a serious relationship. Bambam is no different, as she has continually expressed her high doctrinal beliefs. Stating that she was raised in a Christian home.

Desire finally gets in the way of BamTeddy as they both find warmth and relief in the toilet, away from prying camera eyes.

” As far as I am concerned, there is no true alliance or couple in this house, I have not seen any…we are too many for people to be forming this or that,” She said.

“At some point, it is no longer a couple thing but you alone,” She added.

Big Brother Housemate, Miracle has emerged Head of House in today’s challenge.

This Final challenge for Head of House starred 4 housemates including: Ifu Eenada, Ahneeka, Leo and Miracle.

Miracle emerged winner of the challenge after being the successful housemate to pick the right colour of balls in a bucket.

This was preceded by Ahneeka’s elimination, after Ahneeka failed to obey the rules guiding the challenge.

The four housemates were required to randomly pick the correct colour of balls arranged in a bucket, blindfolded by the ninjas.

Ahneeka however continued to look down into the bucket disobeying Biggie’s instructions to look up while using their fingers and hands to pick the correct ball.

After several attempts and subsequent eliminations of Leo and Ahneeka; Miracle emerged winner after picking the green ball, closely followed by Ifu Eenada who gave quite a fierce challenge.

Miracle will now share his new Head of House lounge with his paired partner, Anto as Biggie refused him the rights of picking any other housemate, which would most obviously be Mina, the only woman exclusively associated to him.

Ifu Eenada failed to hide her frustration and angst at her continued misfortunes. She lamented that this was the fourth time she qualified for the Final Head of House Challenge and failed to win again.

“I would no longer compete for Head of House Challenge. I would nominate Leo or someone else to participate. This is bad luck indeed,” She complained.

BBNaija: Alex is plus one today

Big Brother Housemate, Alex has added a new age today.
Her giddiness happened to coincide with her argument with Leo, when he explained in very clear terms that he wanted no more “strings” between them.
She wanted to sleep in his bed and enjoy some coziness but Leo preferred to have nothing of the sort.
He sent her out and when she refused to leave; he changed position, replacing where he would normally keep his head with his feet.
“I have told you times without number that I don’t want more than this little thing we have,” Leo was quoted, in his discussion with Alex.
He tried to reason with her that their pairing was just a game and nothing more with no extra strings attached.
Only to find out moments later that housemates were counting down to her birthday. Hence their now recently found midnight insomnia.
Tobi led the birthday chorus as housemates sang for a very emotional Alex who kept crying all through the joyous moment.
This was after lights out and Alex was given hugs in turn by housemates who happily wished her a lovely year ahead.

She cannot continue to bear the idea of Tobi being involved with other housemates as they began to argue late last night.

Tobi who was unapologetic admitted Cee-C was selfish by trying to trap him to herself.

An impatient Cee-C who could not believe her ears, had to accept Tobi’s decisions.

“I get where you are coming from. This is how you feel which is always being selfish.

“There is a general perspective, there is how things are and there is how you are taking things,” Tobi countered.

Cee- C who was appalled by Tobi’s reaction had to acknowledge and say “It is Okay.”

Aheenka came to the rescue, giving Tobi a cue to leave immediately.
