The Association of Retired Police officers of Nigeria ( ARPON ), Kano State Chapter, has appealed to the National Assembly to fast-track the amendment of the Pension Reform Act 2014.

The Secretary of the association, Saidu Garba, made the appeal on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.

He said that the amendment would pave way for the exclusion of its members from the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Garba said it was the desire of the association across the three states of Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa who are members of the chapters, for the Federal Government to revert to the previous Police Pension Scheme.

“We are using this medium to express our willingness and desire as police pensioners under this scheme, to be excluded from the Contributory Pension Scheme,’’ he said.

“The much-anticipated benefit of the contributory pension scheme we are operating now has turned out to be a mirage,’’ he said.

Sallah: Banks urged to improve ATM services during festival

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Chapter, has called on Banks operating ATM Machines across the state to improve their services by providing adequate funds.

This is contained in a statement by the NLC chairman in the state, Mr Kabiru Minjibir and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Kano.

He said there was need for them to improve their services in view of the high demand for cash arising from the forthcoming Sallah celebration

He said, “Banks are hereby strongly advised to note that the Congress would not fold its arms and watch workers being helplessly frustrated unnecessarily due to the inability of the banks to discharge their responsibilities”.

Minjibir noted that such can deny the workers to enjoy their hard earned and legitimate income paid by the government or their employees.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we can no longer tolerate any deliberate action or inaction by any bank that causes hardship to workers and pensioners in the process of collecting their income”, he said.

“We would also like to use this opportunity to reiterate our call on all those in charge of our affairs at whatever level of authority to reflect on the current hardship experienced by the populace”.he said.

He called on the workers to remain committed and punctual in service and prayers for the return of the nation’s lost economy’s glory.

  • Over 20,000 cards await collection in Kano – NIMC

Over 20,000 cards await collection in Kano – NIMC

Hajiya Bilkisu Dalhat, the Kano state Office Coordinator, National Identification Management Commission (NIMC), says over 20,000 cards are yet to be collected by their owners in the state.

Dalhat disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

“We are appealing to those who have already registered to come and collect their cards.

“We have sent text messages and even called some of those that their cards are ready, although, some we were not able to reach maybe because they have changed their lines.

“Therefore, we are calling on them to come and explain to us so that they can collect their cards”, the coordinator said.

She said that the commission in collaboration with the state government established over 60 registration centres across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

According to her, the need for the establishment of the centres arises due to the low turnout by the people in the state for enrolment.

“Since the commencement of the registration by NIMC in 2012, we registered not more than 7.5 per cent of the people in the state in spite of the fact that Kano state has the highest population in Nigeria.

“Therefore, we collaborate with the Kano State Government to establish the centres in order to give the citizens easy access to register”, she said.

She expressed dismay over the nonchalant attitude of the people toward the exercise.

“Some of our people when they come to register, they hardly exercise patience and join the queue for the registration, but rather go away when the queue is long.

“Therefore, I am appealing to them to kindly come and be enrolled to avoid any further challenges that they may face in the future because they did not registered.

“Just of recent, so many intending pilgrims rushed to us to be enrolled because the National Hajj Commission has made it mandatory for every intending pilgrim to present their number before travelling,” she said.

Dalhat further advised the people to ensure that they obtain the card irrespective of their ethnicity or religion, adding that even people with deformity were expected to register as there is provision for them.
