    Kate Henshaw goes into politics

    Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw is currently aspiring to represent Calabar Munical/Odukpani Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    The actress, who turned 43 on Saturday, July 19, officially unveiled her campaign website on the same day. To qualify to run for the office under the PDP, the actress has to win the primaries scheduled for October this year.

    On what she plans to achieve as a candidate, the actress said: “I have a strong interest and desire to serve my people and show that there is a better, more humane way to do things when you are in a position of leadership. It is also about putting the people first, being accountable to them as well as being accessible. I am also very keen on promoting and championing the provision of clean water, good roads and sanitation in my constituency. One of my key areas of focus will be provision of affordable education and quality healthcare, especially for expecting and young mothers, the less privileged and the physically challenged.”

    Artistes support Lagos residents’ registration

    Musicians and theatre practitioners in Lagos State yesterday stormed its secretariat at Alausa in Ikeja to participate in the ongoing resident registration exercise, carried out by the state Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA).

    Among them were: Juju music maestro King Sunny Ade, Kate Henshaw, Prince  Jide Kosoko, Saheed Balogun, Foluke Daramola, Adebayo Salami and Segun Arinze.

    Others are the two chairmen of the Lagos State Actors Guild, Messrs. Don Pedro Aganbi and Victor Osuagwu; Abubakar Yakubu, Joke Silver, Toni Akposeri, Tunji Bamishigbin, Yemi Shodimu and Biodun Aremu, among others.

    The General Manager, LASRRA, Ms. Yinka Fashola, said a total of 1.8 million residents of the state had been registered by the agency, adding that the exercise was to enable government to efficiently plan for Lagos residents and allocate resources to meet their needs.

    She said that musicians, actors/actresses, producers, editors and all those involved in any production, play vital roles in the development of the state, adding: “Many studies show that economic prosperity lies in the ability of a city to attract artistes to the urban core.

    “As a hub of actors and musicians, the computer industry, social media, visual arts and fashion, among others, have followed the flow and creativeness of our actors and musicians to Lagos”, she said, adding that the development demands for facilities and resources that would enhance and improve the standard of living such as entertainment, cinemas, restaurants, night clubs and shopping mall.

    She explained that cities that attracted a large number of artistes experience economic growth since other industries have interest in their creative activities.

    Omotola, Banky W, Dakolo to grace EiE dinner

    Come June 14, top Nigerian music and Nollywood stars, including Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Banky W and Timi Dakolo, will grace the maiden fundraising dinner of the Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE), a political pressure group, scheduled to hold at The Duchess Zion Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The EiE is a coalition of individuals and youth-led organisations committed to a culture of good governance and public accountability.

    The objective of the dinner, according to the organisers, is to raise funds to support programmes and initiatives that build on EiE’s strong record of promoting good governance through its core campaign: Register/Select/ Vote/Protect (RSVP), ahead of the 2015 elections.

    In a release by the organisation, the fundraising dinner, which will be anchored by actress Kate Henshaw and Kola Oyeneyin, will also provide an opportunity for the organisation’s supporters, volunteers and staff to mingle and renew their commitment to the non-partisan group’s mission.

    The Executive Director, EiE, Ms. ‘Yemi Adamolekun, said: “It promises to be an unforgettable evening of good music, laughter, networking and fun, as we re-commit ourselves to build the Nigeria we know is possible.”

    According to the organisers, there will be dinner dates with Keem Bello-Osagie, while two tickets to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will also be auctioned at the event.

    Fire razes Mina Okoloko’s home

    Beauty Concerns owner, Mina Okoloko, has lately been having one ugly experience after another. The latest in the string of unpalatable occurrences is that her Victoria Island home was gutted by a fire that also destroyed everything she had in the building.

    The ugly incident was said to have left Mina speechless and traumatised for days. Not even the presence of her close friend, Kate Henshaw, and other family members could assuage the depression that seized her heart. She was said to have lost property worth millions of naira to the inferno. Lost items were said to have included her expensive diamond and gold plated jewellery like necklaces, earrings and wrist watches.

    Her dresses were also burnt; just like some goods she had taken delivery of a few days earlier. But she was lucky to have found help in few neighbours who helped to drive her expensive cars away from the compound. The lawyer-turned-beautician is said to have returned to her bubbly self. Reports say she is already planning to jet out of the country as part of her plans to expand her beauty business.

    FLAVOUR N’abania now Onga ambassador

    NIGERIAN Highlife crooner, Flavour N’abania, who recently returned from a musical tour of South Africa, has been named the face of popular seasoning, Onga, in a deal said to worth some millions of naira.

    Until now, top Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, had been the only known celebrity who is the face of Onga.

    Flavour, as he is famously called, started out as a drummer and pianist for an Enugu-based band. After learning to play drums professionally, he received an offer to perform at the City Centre, Enugu.

    In 2005, Flavour released his debut album, N’abania, on Obaino Music.

    Flavour later collaborated with Mr. Raw on the album’s lead single titled, N’abania, which was recorded at Kingsley Ogoro’s Studio in Lagos.

    Following the relative success of his debut album, Flavour released Uplifted in 2010. He also followed it up with Blessed in 2012 through 2nite Entertainment and iROCKING Ltd.

    KATE Henshaw, a top Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, was part of the panelists on the Social Media Week, which was rounded off on Friday at the Volkswagen Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The Social Media Week is a media platform and event held across five continents, including Africa, North America, South America, Europe and Asia. It explores the socio-cultural and economic impact of social media.

    The week-long conference and festival is held twice a year (February and September) in multiple cities across the globe simultaneously.

    In February, 2013, Lagos, Nigeria joined the Social Media Week community as the first African city to host the event alongside 10 other cities, including Hamburg, Milan, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.

    Kate Henshaw, who hails from Cross River State, Nigeria, is the oldest of four children. After completing her primary and secondary school in Lagos and Calabar, she spent one year at the University of Calabar, where she did remedial studies and later majored in Medical Microbiology at the School of Medical Lab Science, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos.

    TOP Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, recently engaged some students of various public and private secondary schools and higher institutions in Nigeria.

    Henshaw spoke on attitude at a seminar organised by a non-governmental organisation, Charity Runway, in Lagos.

    She said all the youths need to succeed in life is to have the right attitudes towards their careers.

    She said, “Attitude is all you need to succeed in life. The youths should develop the right attitude towards their work, relationship, leadership, service and life, generally. They have to be like the turning point, where everything changes for the best.

    “Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong. Don’t look at the person that has all the money and fame; but look at how to change lives and impact on people, while changing your environment.”

    Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, lauded the organisers for moulding the future leaders.

    Speaking through Mrs. Adepeju Sunmonu, the commissioner promised that her ministry would continue to partner with organisations on the training and retraining of youths for better tomorrow.

    “I have been made to understand that the primary vision of this foundation is in guiding our teeming youths on the path to developing practical skills and a positive mindset towards their future,” she said.

    She also acknowledged the vital role of the organisation for channelling the youths’ energies towards positive developments and better future.

    She, therefore, urged other organisations to take a leave from the Charity Runway.

    “This gives me joy. This is because in a country which prides itself as the most populous black nation with active youths, we need a lot more organisations such as this, channelling that massive youth energy and potential into positive results for the betterment of the economy and the society; and by extension, the country at large,” she said.

    President of the organisation, Mrs. Chioma Okoye, stated that it was meant to engage the youths and educate them on the way forward in their sojourns in life.

    “We are looking at the youths and the areas they have problems while growing up. It is to educate them and counsel them in their careers,” she said.

    Samuel Moses, a participant, said he hoped that the organisers would continue to always organise such a seminar for the teeming Nigerian youths.

    “I thank the organisers of this programme. I have really learnt something great. I have learnt how to have the right attitude towards my career, among others. I will appreciate it if they can be organising this kind of programme always,” he said.

    IT would seem like Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has found love again, but this time, with a contestant on the currently touring talent show, Nigeria’s Got Talent. Kate who is a judge on the show found love in the lyrics and performance of a contestant from the city of Benin, during the regional auditions.

    The singer, who performed a love song with his guitar, dedicated some lyrics in his composition to the ever-glowing judge. “It is a pity you have a girlfriend, I would have just taken you after that performance,” said a blushing Kate.

    Still on the hunt for budding talents, judge of the show, Yibo Koko was provoked to perform by his fellow colleague, Kate Henshaw after a contestant put up a show with the aid of a saxophone.

    It seems as though it isn’t only contestants that are after the fame that comes with the franchise as well as the N10 million naira at stake. In the next episode of Nigeria’s Got Talent billed to air on Sunday, Koko will be seen displaying his natural talent of producing melodious sounds with his fingers.

    “I can do many things with my fingers including playing the sax,” said the proud judge.
