Funny tips from Nigeria’s Got Talent Port Harcourt audition

It was a heart-breaking moment for some contestants in the ongoing Nigeria’s Got Talent show auditions holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Snippets from the event, which aired on television Sunday night showed some of the comic moments associated to reality shows – the most, being trial performance from aspirants, who amuse or annoy than entertain the crowd.

Diminutive Emmanuel Udeh was a 22-yaer-old contestant, who moved many to tears with his tears. It was obvious he didn’t impress the crowd with his act, let alone the judges, but he was so little in frame that the judges tried to be nice. They were diplomatic in telling him he’s not talented enough. He got the message and wailed uncontrollably.

It was obvious he had planned to wow the judges with his dance performance. Udeh took to the floor to air his pain, reminding God that He promised to see him through his performance. He left the stage showing his frustration.

However, another contestant, Heaven, was not so lucky with the judges. Not only did Kate Henshaw and Dan Foster, two of the judges walk out on him, Foster said to him: “Your voice can only lead me to hell not heaven.”

The slightly delirious hopeful believed his spooky voice could help him gain a spot in the Airtel-sponsored race for a N10 million prize, but the judges had a different opinion.

Henshaw who couldn’t stand his rendition of Asa’s Eye Adaba, hit her buzzer dismissingly the moment Heaven opened his mouth to sing.  But with encouragement from Yibo Koko, the third judge, Heaven continued his performance. But Henshaw and Foster walked out in the process.

So much to behold on the show, as a Police Officer, Famous Ajieh, came on stage.

Popular for his act in the Southsouth region, Ajieh, who is based in Asaba, seized opportunity provided by the show to unveil his album during the auditions.

The Policeman who was kitted for the show, stated that he wasn’t there to win the grand prize, and that all he wanted was to use the Nigeria Got Talent platform as a means to reach more people with his music.

He performed a track from his album, titled: We Be One O, obviously, a solidarity message song.

  • Family, colleagues surprise Funke Akindele on birthday

IF there is anything like a harmless lie, then star actress, Funke Akindele fell for one on her last birthday. She had been told that Glo will be engaging her on an official assignment scheduled to take place Last Saturday night at The Place Club by Papa’s Entertainment. Of course, this was not without the cooperation of some of her co-Glo ambassador who could have confirmed to her upon enquiry that indeed, they were aware of an official evening by the telecommunications company. Her flight was fixed from Enugu where she was on a film location. Her hotel was booked and so was the venue of the event and an exquisite looking birthday cake that had the celebrant dummied in the Jenifa’s costume and branded with Glo, Vitafoam and Olasco Films’ logos. She walked into her carefully plotted surprise 36th birthday where fellow actress Kate Henshaw led the Happy Birthday chorus, and the actress simply broke into tears.

Chief among the organisers were Funke’s bossom friend, Ariyike Akinbobola and her elder sister and manager, Ayo Ola Muhammed.

Ola Muhammed had feared that their cover may be blown and the outcome unpredictable: “her instinct is strong and she is beginning to ask too many questions,” she noted a few hours to the show.

“I feel so honoured,” she said amidst tears. “I mean not even at this period. I feel so blessed. I just thank God about my life. And I just have to say this now. For everybody who has come out to celebrate with me, I’m alive and they love me, God bless you all.”

But tensioned tension and surprises gave way as the show entered full gear, with the celebrant taking pictures, hugging and dancing almost with every guest with DJ Spinall on the wheel of steel.

Some of the celebrant’s colleagues who arrived the venue before her were Kate ‘the Great’ Henshaw, Uche Jombo, Tiwa Savage, Sound Sultan, JJC and Funke Kuti.

Other guests include Alhaji Hakeem Balogun (Olasco Films), Tee Billz, Sexy Steel, Eniola Badmus, award winning producer, Ty Mix, Ariyike Akinbobola, Ayabime Okpoh, star comedian, AY and his wife, Reminisce, African China, Bantu, Osahon Asemota, Frank Okamigbo, Busayo, Sexy Steel, Victor Olaotan, Biodun Kupoluyi, Segun Banjo, Femi Davies, Busayo Folarin, Kaffy, Layole Oyatogun among others.

IT was a gathering of the crème-de-la-crème of the Nigerian movie industry and their counterparts in business circle last Sunday as Chief Executive of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Ms Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, invited all to a thanksgiving ceremony.

The shindig, which took place at the GRA residence of the Osigwes, began with a prayer session at the Church of the Presentation, also in GRA.

According to the AMAA boss, who was in high spirits giving warm welcome to guests and dancing tirelessly to the melodious tunes from the Disc Jockey, the reception was her way of showing gratitude to God for the previous year. “I’m thanking God for the great mercies he showered on me during 2012,” she said.

Like most high-octane parties, the guests had a lot to pick from the array of local and continental dishes, champagne, exotic wines and juices.

Tony Anih, Executive Secretary of AMAA, it was, who first took to the dance floor. It took one of Flavour’s hit tracks to get him boogieing down, dancing with the celebrant who was full of life at the event. By this time, the live band had taken over. Known as One House, the band entertained the stars, sending them into frenzy.

Present at the event were Segun Arinze, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Kate Henshaw, Rita Dominic, Mary Uranta, Chika Chukwu and Chioma Ude, among others.
