    Beautiful Nubia to launch album Easter Sunday

    Folklore singer, Beautiful Nubia, is set to launch his new album titled Soundbender on Easter Sunday.

    Disclosing this on his Facebook page, Beautiful Nubia, whose real name is Segun Akinlolu, said the official launch of the album is scheduled to hold on Sunday, April 6, at the EniObanke Arts Centre, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

    Also, as part of events to promote the 15-track album which is already available for sale on major online platforms, the veterinary doctor-turned folklore singer, revealed that he would embark on a tour of five venues in Lagos, Oyo, Osun and Kwara States.

    According to the schedule, Beautiful Nubia would also perform across some universities. The selected stops are on Thursday, April 2, at the Creative Arts Department, University of Lagos; on Wednesday, April 8, the concert train moves to the Arts Theatre, University of Ibadan while on Thursday, April 9, it goes to the Pit Theatre, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The performances which start by 5pm on those dates are free entry for students.

    The tour then climaxes on Saturday, April 18, with a show at the Alliance Francaise, Ilorin, Kwara State.

    Soundbender is the 11th studio album by Nubia and his Roots Renaissance Band.

  • Artistes storm launch of health scheme

    Entertainers, on Tuesday, March 3, gathered for the official take-off of the Nigerian Entertainment Industry Health Insurance Scheme (NEIHIS) which held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

    The media unveiling was attended by artistes such as DJ Jimmy Jatt, Gbenga Adeyinka, Tony Okoroji, Patrick Doyle, Yemi Solade, Efe Omorogbe, Cally Ikpe, Mr. Raw Nwanne, Ara, Puffy T, DJ Gosporella, Charles Granville and many others.

    The event, which was hosted by comedian Koffi, also had in attendance, influential media practitioners like the Head of Trace TV Anglophone Africa, Mr. Sam Onyemelukwe, as well as top executives of partner HMOs from Healthcare International and United Healthcare International.

    In his address, coordinator of the scheme, Seun Apara, spoke about some of the processes and challenges the organising team went through before arriving at the unveiling. “Today is not the day of long speeches but a day to announce to our industry that easy and affordable healthcare is now available to them throughout the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory. We are happy that after a year of trying to institutionalise proper and organised health care delivery system to our industry, we are glad that we have moved several milestones beyond where we started”.

    MD/CEO of Healthcare International, Dr. Tosin Awosika, took the centre stage after Apara , speaking highly of the NEIHI scheme while also commending the initiators for their doggedness and determination to bring the scheme to fruition. “With all the hard labour and selfless sacrifices that have been put into bringing this scheme to existence, I expect everybody in this industry to enroll to it and enjoy the immense benefits.”

    Stakeholders like Okoroji, Doyle, Omorogbe, Adeyinka and Solade also took turns to encourage all and sundry to pay important attention to their health by enrolling under the private customised scheme, as it covers them in all the 36 states of the country.

    Omorogbe made it known that he had already enrolled in the scheme and did same for his staff before the launch, saying he understands the importance of what has just been created. Some participants at the event showed readiness for the scheme by picking up enrollment form.

    A book titled “Moving Forward: A biography of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan”, which documents the life and time of the President from birth to his Presidency, is to be launched in America.

    It was written by an America-based Nigerian scholar and researcher, Dr. Matthew Uzukwu, an adjunct Professor of Operations Management at Bowen State University, United States of America.

    It will be launched in New York tomorrow.

    NSIA boss to speak at Banking Sector Report launch

    Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Uche Orji, will deliver the keynote address at the launch of the Afrinvest 2014 Nigerian Banking Sector Report on September nineth.

    The event would hold at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, and will be attended by key stakeholders in the nation’s financial services industry, from both the public and private sector.

    Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is the Special Guest of Honour. Titled ‘Navigating Growth in a Challenging Environment,’ the 2014 Report, according to Ike Chioke, Managing Director of Afrinvest, “ will x-ray the current conditions of the Nigerian banking landscape within the context of the domestic and global economy.

    Skye Bank, others launch multi-purpose card for NURTW

    Skye Bank Plc has introduced a Security Verified Identity Card (S-Vid) for members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

    The product is part of measures taken to build a reliable data base for the NURTW and integrating its members into the financial system.

    The card, launched yesterday in Abuja, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, is a multi-functional card which includes features like insurance purse, mobile wallet and an identity card.

    Skye Bank which is the lead bank on the project is working in partnership with other organisations like Globacom, G 3 Limited. A few other banks are also working on the project.

    Chief Executive Officer of Skye Bank Plc, Timothy Oguntayo, said the card is aimed at reducing financial crimes and identity theft, describing it as not just a card but ‘it’s your identity, it’s your security, and it’s your gift to posterity’

    According to him, the card will bear the holder’s photo, the logo of the holder’s organization, the s-vid logo and the bank’s logo.

    The bank chief said the card would boost the cashless initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

    The Skye Bank boss said the card would serve as a corporate identity card, mobile wallet and insurance purse. He listed the features of the card as personal accident insurance cover to card holder of N1 million against accidental death and N850,000 against permanent disability.

    CJN to chair book launch on corruption, human rights law in Africa

    The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, will next Monday, August 18, chair the launch of a book, titled: Corruption and Human Rights Law in Africa.

    The book was written by Dr. Kolawole Olaniyan of Amnesty International (AI) in London.

    Also expected at the book presentation are: Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, the chief launcher; Executive Director of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), Abdul Tijan-Cole and the Chief Registrar of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Dr Robert Eno.

    Also expected at the event is the Oba of Lagos, Riliwanu Akiolu II, the royal father of the day.

    Other dignitaries are: the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ekpo Nta; Prof Akin Oyebode of the Faculty of Law of University of Lagos (UNILAG); Lagos lawyer Mr Femi Falana (SAN); Lagos State Solicitor-General, Lawal Pedro; the Director-General of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Mrs Dupe Atoki and former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

    The stage is set for the official launch of a book, The perfect scholar, authored by Mr. Jimoh Braimoh, a first-class graduate of French, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State.

    Jimoh said the book was aimed at helping students improve their academic performances in biblical and practical ways.

    “The ideas in the book are proven, tested and practical. With hindsight and the benefits of divine grace, I employed some of the techniques laid out in this book to excel as an undergraduate in this university. And I am confident anybody can apply these ideas to improve their academic life,” he stated.

    Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Michael Koleoso, are some of the eminent Nigerians expected at the unveiling of a book on grassroots governance tomorrow at the Premier Hotel in Ibadan.

    The book, written by Oluyole Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, is titled: “Grassroots Governance in Perspective: My Experience in Oluyole Local Government, Oyo State”.

    It addresses local government autonomy, revenue allocation, true federalism, regional integration and other issues confronting the local government system.

    The book will be reviewed by a renowned local government administration scholar, Dr Isiak Aransi of the Department of Local Government Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U), Ile-Ife.

    The National President, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, will chair the ceremony.

    House of Assembly Speaker Alhaja Monsurat Sunmonu is the guest of honour. A business man, Asiwaju Bisi Adegunyi, is the chief launcher. Oil magnate Chief Salmon Oladiti is a co-launcher.

    The Olubadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade 1, is the royal father of the day.

    MTN to launch music app

    Leading telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria, is set to change the face of the Nigerian music industry with the launch of its music application called Music+.

    According to reports, the company has perfected plans for the launch expected to hold later in the month.

    The app, which has been described as a merger of music streaming and download platform optimized for mobile and online access, is socially enabled to accommodate cross-user activity.

    Music+, according to findings, is a round-the-clock exciting way of music streaming, music sharing, play-listing for Naija music. Users can streamline directly to their mobile devices, enjoy offline streaming as well for zero data needed. They can manage their personal mobile music library as they wish and share their taste of music and explore more via music playlist recommendation.

    According to reports, some of the company’s music ambassadors will be releasing new hits at the launch.
