  • LG electronics redefines the future of smart television

Looking at the slow lurch of technological progress in the latter half of the 20th century, it is apparent that the pace of change has been dwarfed by the improvements made in the past 15 years alone. The catalyst for these changes began once manufacturers were no longer shackled by the limitations of cathode ray tubes. No longer reliant on bulky tubes, the capabilities of TVs began to grow exponentially. Picture quality drastically improved, screens grew in size and production became more cost-efficient. For the first time, TVs were able to offer with more colours, smaller bezels and thinner casings.

Leading electronics manufacturers are now intensely investing in research and development in order to come up with modern TVs that address various consumer needs. One of such companies is LG Electronics, with its large array of game-changing TVs.

The most impressive TV innovation at the 2016 CES, surprisingly, came from LG. The long time peddler of wild wacky and crazy expensive living room technology showed off a 4K OLED TV that is as thick as four credit cards. Nothing will be as revolutionary as the invention of TV except for the world’s first Curved OLED TV.

Commenting on present TV trends, General Manager, Home Entertainment division, LG Electronics West Africa operations, Mr. Steve Ryu, said:We are fully committed to bringing next generation technologies to the Nigerian market.” He stated further that the next-generation display technology and the advanced ultra-thin depth of 4.3mm come with a unique curved design which represents a new era in home entertainment. It must be seen to be believed.

“Our groundbreaking OLED TV marks the beginning of a whole new era in home entertainment. Its IMAX-like curvature guarantees an amazingly immersive and comfortable viewing experience.  Indeed, it is a point of pride that we were able to bring the OLED TV into the Nigerian market and we will continue to expand and improve our industry leading television technology.”

  • LG inaugurates new classrooms, shopping complex

Executive Secretary of Agbado/Oke Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Hon. David Famuyiwa, on Tuesday inaugurated an ultra-modern shopping complex in Ajasa Market and a six-classroom block with modern facilities at Ilapo Community Primary School in Alagbado.

It was a joyous moment for the pupils as new desks and chairs were also distributed to them.

The council boss noted that the projects were intended to enhance the quality of education in the school as well as trade and commerce in the council area. He said: “We are confident that the projects we are commissioning today will, to a large extent, improve the lot of teachers and pupils of the school. We, therefore, want to assure you that our government is actually committed to her promise of bringing positive changes to our society.

“The new building consists of two offices, two toilets, drainage, culvert and furniture, including desks and benches. However, we have also commenced the construction of Shotunde and Owodunni Streets at Alagbado, while repair work has been carried out on Lawal and Omisesan Streets among others.”

While commissioning the school building, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Princess Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf urged the teachers and pupils to make the best use of the facilities.

“The best way to appreciate the laudable gesture of Hon Famuyiwa’s administration is for the pupils and teachers of this school to ensure that the facilities are not damaged or misused so that more of this gesture can come to this school.”

The traditional ruler of Meiran community, Oba Adisa Oroja, charged residents, teachers and pupils to protect the new facilities put in place in the school.

The lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon Bisi Yusuf, admonished property owners to desist from encroaching on the school land.

Hon Yusuf warned that he would not hesitate to drag offenders before the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly for possible sanction. He said: ”We will no longer tolerate people who encroach on landed property meant for school project, hence, those who have trespassed on the land on which Ilapo Community Primary School is sited should leave or else I will personally lead a protest to the State Assembly to eject trespassers.”

  • LG unveils 10-year warranty products

    LG unveils 10-year warranty products

Brand, business and Consumer writers and other stakeholders  in the industry recently converged at the popular LG showroom in Lekki Phase 1 Lagos to witness the unveiling of the 10-year extension warranty on virtually all LG home appliances as well as air conditioning and energy solution products in Nigeria.

With this new innovation, LG Electronics appears to be the first electronic brand in Nigeria to offer a decade-long warranty of reliability on a large gamut of its product offerings. The products include refrigerators, chest freezers, air conditioners with inverter linear compressor, washing machines with inverter direct drive motor, charcoal lighting heater in charcoal microwave and cordless vacuum cleaner with smart inverter motor.

Addressing members of the press, the General Manager, Home Appliances Division, LG Electronics West Africa Operations, Mr. Hyunwoo Jung, said, “it is basically aimed at delivering next-level convenience as well as satisfying its teeming consumers with its mind-blowing innovations and product offering, affirming further that the 10-year warranty has been extended to cover more home appliances and air conditioning products.”

According to him, this clearly shows that LG Electronics is totally committed to delighting as well as meeting the needs of its Nigerian consumers with products that will allow them to experience life in more meaningful ways.

Prior to now, said Mr. Hyunwoo Jung, LG products were known to come with two-year warranty with only a few selected products having a 10-year warranty cover, adding that “Outside the ones you have seen today, we are also looking to expand our product offerings that come with a 10-year warranty on their core technologies in future.”

Responding to a question on why the global leader in consumer electronics was extending its 10-year warranty to other products, Jung explained that it was basically aimed at delivering next level convenience and ensuring worry-free operations for 10 years.

Explaining the capabilities of these products and their core technologies, he said that they are all designed for Nigerian markets bearing in mind the poor situation of electricity in most parts of the country. “The high electricity bill was taken into consideration and the fact that most consumers want to use products that can be powered with small capacity generators were also considered when the products were being designed,” he said.

Another added advantage, according to the General Manager, is that all the products are affordable, energy-efficient and durable.

  • Traders accuse LG distributor of fraud

Traders accuse LG distributor of fraud

There is a Lagos distributor of LG products that collected money from some traders?

The traders are accusing the distributor of defrauding them.

They alleged that the firm closed its store without delivering their goods.

The store introduced “pay little by little” offer to traders last October.

It was gathered that some of the traders got their appliances but others didn’t.

A trader, Mrs Adetoun Abiolu, said she paid N53,000 out of N60,000 for a freezer, adding: “When they came last October, many of us joined because we saw that it was real when we got to their office. We paid whenever we had money. At times I paid N2000 sometimes N5000. We were issued receipts. I took my N7000 balance there last week but I was asked to return this week. Last December, I was told the price may change because the price of dollars had increased; I agreed. I am just shocked the store was closed on January 18. I haven’t seen any of the workers. I also heard the boss is not around.

“The painful part is that I introduced eight people and their money is times two of my money. They have been asking what happened and I am tired of explaining to them.”

Another trader, Chinedu Ogboji, said he paid N56,000 instead of N51,000, the initial price.

Chinedu said when he first went to the store to pay the balance, he was asked to come back as the product wasn’t available.

“After I paid N56,000, they asked me to come back last December 24 and when I did, they had closed for the year. When I got there on Monday January 11, I was told the price of the television is now N70,000 and that if I couldn’t afford it, I could pick a Samsung Television which I agreed. I don’t have the television, my money is gone and the workers are nowhere to be found,” he said.

Mrs. Olubunmi Fashina, who wanted to buy a washing machine worth N65,000, said she lost N42,000.

She said majority of the traders took advantage of the offer when the first set that started got their products.

“We are not happy about the situation. I even heard the workers are being owed for months and their boss cannot be found. Even when I requested their boss’ mobile line from one of the workers, he said she never disclosed her line to any of her staff. As if she saw this coming. What did they do with our hard earned money? It is painful. My balance is N13,000 but what of those who lost N250,000 to them. An old woman almost became unconscious on seeing the store locked last Monday. I remember the worker that registered me. He kept coming to my shop before I decided to join. I have been to their head office and I have not gotten a positive reply,” she said.

A trader, Oluwafemi Adebamigbe, who deals in jewellery, said it was the week after he collected his product that the shop was shut.

He said: “I am happy I didn’t fall a victim but it is unfair. Most of us can’t afford to buy what we need once; that is why we went for the offer and now we have been cheated. I pray they return soon so they can refund our money.”

At the Ogba, Lagos office of Fouani Ltd, the sole distributor of LG Electronics in Nigeria, the sales representative, who simply identified herself as Omobolanle, disagreed that the distributor has absconded with the traders’ money.
