Bamidele spoke in Igede-Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, noting that the welfare of the people in all ways would be his concern if elected governor.

Bamidele maintained that the state is blessed with many competent professionals who would make it proud through execution of quality projects in construction and other areas.

    LP,PDP, APC battle for Ilaje/Ese-Odo by-election

As the people of Ilaje/Ese Odo Federal Constituency prepare ahead of tomorrow’s House of Representatives by-election, Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has relocated to the area to ensure victory for the Labour Party (LP).

Investigation showed that the governor had been to the coastal area more than four times lately, to inaugurate projects, as part of strategies to woo voters for the LP’s candidate, Mr. Kolade Akinjo.

On Monday, the governor moved members of the executive council to the coastal area to canvass votes for the LP candidate.

Virtually, every political office holder has relocated to Ilaje/Ese-odo for aggressive campaign in an election they see as a must win.

The Governor was still in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, with his aides.

Many people in the area accused him of neglect and alleged that he had failed to execute any project in the coastal communities in the last six years, to merit their votes.

It was also learnt that the Governor is fighting the battle of his life, as the PDP members are bent on recapturing the area.

The Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency became vacant following the death of Raphael Nomiye. He died in Abuja last year.

The PDP has begun aggressive campaigns to ensure that they recapture the area.

Tomorrow’s by-election will prove to President Goodluck Jonathan who owns the state between LP and PDP.

Government sources said: “As I am talking to you, our governor has relocated to Ilaje/Ese-Odo to convince voters to vote for LP.

“His relocation became important to prove again to President Jonathan that LP is in charge of the state.”

Three parties will slug it out at polling stations tomorrow.

They are: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and All Progressives Congress (APC). Adewale Kukute is the standard-bearer of the PDP, while Adewale Omojuwa, the former OSOPADEC chairman, is the APC candidate.

PDP is leaving no one in doubt that it is seriously in the race.

The Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, stormed Ondo State yesterday to drum support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in tomorrow’s by-election.

Speaking at the Akure Airport, on their mission in the state, the men, who were on their way to the riverine communities for the final rally of their party, said the PDP was determined to win the poll and they were in the state to ensure this.

Obanikoro said the people of the riverine area always supported the party, adding that the good work of the Federal Government would be considered by the indigenes in voting for PDP during the election.

He said the party had executed developmental projects, which would improve the standard of living of the people.

Commenting on the belief in some quarters that the Federal Government had been supporting the Labour Party (LP) to win elections in the state, the Minister said: “There is no doubt that the government here is a friendly one, but we are PDP and we have a candidate for the election, so we are determined to win.

“This election is not just a by-election, a representative at the national level is a serious position and don’t forget that the general election is less than a year away, so any election that holds now, we have to take it serious because there is need to ensure that the President is re-elected to enable us continue his transformation agenda.

“The empowerment programme of the PDP is sufficient for the people of Ilaje and Ese-Odo to know that ours is a government, which has the interest of the people at heart.

    Bamidele preaches unity

Ekiti State Labour Party (LP) candidate for the June 21 governorship election Mr. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) has said the state can only develop, if the people are united.

Bamidele encouraged the people to be peaceful in their conduct, especially during campaigns, saying: “The electorate must not support politicians who want to use them for their selfish ends. Ekiti people are one and in togetherness and unity we shall move the state forward and restore its lost glory. Unity is key to development. We have to agree on this.”

Bamidele, who kicked off his campaign last weekend in Ido-Ekiti, visited Oye and Ikole local government areas yesterday.

He was received by his admirers, who defied the scorching sun to make it to the venues.

Bamidele said: “Agriculture, which is the mainstay of our economy, will be one of my programmes as our land remains accommodating of any crop you decide to plant in it.”

Pledging to encourage mechanised farming, he said: “This is the only way we can have enough food for local consumption and export. Any government that considers the nutritional sufficiency of its populace would give more than passing attention to agriculture. Go to any developed country today, you will know that mechanised agriculture is the only answer to food insecurity.

“With successful mechanised agriculture, our farmers will be enabled to tap into larger markets in the state and across the country. This will increase their income.”

Bamidele pledged to create a business-friendly atmosphere and pledged to create jobs for youths within six months, if elected.

  • Ondo By-election:PDP cautions LP against planned rigging

Ahead of Saturday by-election in Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday urged all contending political parties to follow due process as entrenched in the electoral act.

The Party at a news conference in Akure, the State Capital also called on relevant agencies having any role in the election to act in an unbiased manner.

Its State Chairman, Mr Ebenezer Alabi said organisations such as Nigerian Army, Police, State Security Service (SSS) Navy, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) among others should maintain neutrality during the exercise to prevent violence.

Alabi alleged that two prominent Labour Party (LP) Chieftains in the riverine area were invited to security council meeting over the weekend where they allegedly perfected plans to use security agents to truncate the will of the electorate through massive rigging.

According to him, the planks of the plan is the recruitment of militants as boat operators for the security agencies on the election day, while the training of the selected boys by the Naval Authority in the area is slated for Tuesday.

Besides, Alabi alleged that emergency military trained boat operators are to be given military uniform for the special assignment.

He said: “the rigging devices of the ruling LP which have been communicated to the relevant authorities also include the delay of the release of ballot materials to the strongest units of the opposition parties especially PDP.

“Using LP thugs and loyalists in such strong areas under the pretext that election materials arrive late and create false situation of insecurity and hide under that to relocate collation centre to Akure.

“General monetization of the electoral process, which has already started with the daily invitation and inducement of monarchs, community heads, religious leaders and strategic stakeholders by Dr Olusegun Mimiko who had in the past one month relocated to the Federal Constituency.”

Alabi said the PDP was committed to the principle of one man, one vote, which according to him is also in tandem with the electoral reform agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He cited several cases in the past elections particularly in 2010 when LP colluded with INEC officials to remove ballot boxes and papers from Igbokoda Zion and taken it to Forward Operation Base (FOB) foer the purpose of multiple thumb printing and stuffing.

The PDP Chairman noted that the problems with elections in the state had become more complicated since Mimiko emerged as governor of the State.

His words: “Dr Mimiko is someone who in public glare pretends to be an apostle of a free and fair elections, but who under covers is the greatest proponent of election rigging.”

The PDP chairman said following past experiences with security agencies particularly the military during previous elections in connivance with desperate politicians, there should be a level playing ground for all contending parties.

Alabi however assured that PDP would conduct itself in accordance with the law during the election, but stressed that it would never remain idle while its interest is being jeopardized.

But a top official of the ruling LP denied the allegations levelled against his party, stressing that the PDP leadership and their followers were jittery and crying over the inevitable defeat awaiting them at the Polls on Saturday.

Suspected ritualist caught in Ibadan with human bones, tongues, others

•As APC, Accord party trade words over evil forest

While residence of Ibadan, Oyo State capital are still yet to recover from the disheartening discovery of a evil forest on Saturday in Soka area, where dying men, women, human skulls and decomposing bodies were found, another suspected ritualist disguising as a mad man has been arrested by the residence of Oni & Sons, Ring Road, Ibadan.

The yet to be identified man, who has been residing by the side of the pedestrian bridge at Oni & Sons bus stop, the residents stated that he must have been perpectuating the evil acts close to a year now because he has been staying there for long.

One of the eye witness at the scene, who confided in The Nation, explained that luck ran against the middle age man when some resident of the area who have been suspecting his moves, decided to search him and discovered his obnoxious act.

During their search, human bones, tongues, female clothes, bra and pants were discovered in his luggage.

Also, more than 400 campaign posters of a Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant in the state, Comrade Olu Abiala were among the items recovered from him under the bridge were he kept his luggage, along with other dangerous weapons.

The aggrieved public would have lynched him immediately if not for the quick intervention of the policemen from Oluyole.

The suspected ritualist was later taking to Oluyole Police Station by the security agents for further investigation.

Confirming the report when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olabisi Ilobanafor said the man found with human tongue was a destitute.

Ilobanafor said it was on a forensic test that could confirm whether what found on him was human tongue or not.

She said the suspect had been taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The police image maker who noted that since the discovery at Ibadan forest of death, angry mob had been attacking suspected people, noted that one person had killed and another person was rescued by the police.

The PPRO warned members of the public against taking laws into their hands, urging them to report any suspected person to the police.

Debunking the allegation of the Labour Party governorship aspirant’s posters on the phone yesterday, the State Co-Chairman of the party, Alh Bashiru Apanpa stated that he is not in town and cannot ascertain how the poster’s got to the suspected ritualist abode.

He said some of his party members are already at the scene of the incidence to investigate more on the development.

In another development, a Chieftain of Accord Party (AP) in the State, Chief Ayodele Adigun , has accused Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his government of being responsible for the development of the “horror forest” at Soka area of Ibadan where scores of human skeletons, skulls and decomposing and mutilated body parts of dead bodies were found on Saturday.

The AP chieftain described Ajimobi’s visit to the scene and his revocation of the Certificates of Occupancy of owners of the land as a mere show of deceit and hypocrisy.

Adigun, who also doubles as a former Secretary to the State Government, stressed that the dead and decomposing bodies found at the sight could be those of destitutes and lunatics picked off from the streets as the land, according to him, was used by the government to resettle destitutes and lunatics.

Adigun stated that the government could no longer maintain the programme and that was why the inmates were abandoned.

Adigun who traced the history of the expansive land, said that it was initially in care of Aprofirm, a government contractor that first handled the Ogunpa project in 1996, before being handed over to Costain West Africa Ltd.

He further that:”When Costain could no longer go ahead with the project, government impounded the site along with their equipment and it has been in the possession of government since that time till date. I was there as Permanent Secretary.

“Along the line, the Ajimobi administration, through its Environment Commissioner, Wasiu Oladimeji, started resettling destitutes and lunatics taken off the streets there. Due to government negligence, the place could not be maintained and they were all abandoned there”

Although he did not rule out the activities of ritualists as he agreed that: “apparently ritualists might have capitalised on this official lapses to turn it into a den”

But the AP Chieftain insisted that considering the history and development of the place, “government paved the way for this nefarious activities”

“It is not impossible that the harvests of skulls and skeletons observed there are those of the abandoned destitutes and lunatics. They quarantined the people there and killed them” he said

He described Governor Ajimobi’s visit to the place on monday as a mere show of hypocrisy, and said that the revocation of the Certificates of Occupancy (C of Os) was a show of deceit and hypocrisy.

Also reacting immediately on behalf of the government to the allegations in a statement issued by the Interim Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, Mr Dauda Kolawole they warned Accord Party to desist from politicising the grief of the masses.

Oyo APC urged all men of goodwill to stop the Accord Party in the state from capitalising on what it called the fresh blood of the dead people of the state to gain cheap political advantage.

“The people of Oyo State are in a state of grief and shock at the horrendous discovery of ritual killers’ den in the state. The situation calls for sober reflection from all and sundry. To be confronted with this cheap politicking in the name of infantile accusation by the Accord Party is like opening the fresh wound of the people of the state who are still mourning their dead and lamenting the ugly incident,” the party said.

The APC stated that from emerging testimonies of the kidnap victims, it was obvious that the den had been in existence almost ten years ago, a period that covered what it called “the drab government of Senator Rashidi Ladoja” and his successor.

They said rather than accusing the government of insensitivity, it was the security consciousness of the government that led to the discovery of the den and the prompt response of government had become a thing of commendation from all and sundry.

“We are aware that the Accord Party had been attempting to use this unfortunate event to come back to reckoning by instigating the people and selling them cheap lies of government using the forest as a camp for mad people. We are also aware that Accord Party chieftains have infiltrated the rank of sympathisers at Soka with the sole aim of creating a violent scene and disrupting the peace of the state. Unfortunately for them, the evidences of victims who told the world that they were not insane have put a lie to their campaign of destruction,” APC noted.

While warning the Accord Party faithful masterminding the campaign, especially former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Dele Adigun, to desist from seeking to profit from the people’s grief, the party said the state had left the era of politicians climbing to the people’s hearts by manufacturing lies and falsehood.

  • ‘Mischief makers behind my posters’

    ‘Mischief makers behind my posters’

The Chief Whip of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Olatunji Dairo, has pointed accusing fingers at some political opponents whom he described as ‘mischief makers’ as the brain behind the pasting of his posters in some towns and villages across Owo/Ose Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker also debunked rumours that he was gunning for the House of Representatives seat of the federal constituency next year.

He said the posters were the handiwork of his political rivals who are eyeing the seat he is presently occupying in the State Assembly.

The Labour Party (LP) lawmaker representing Owo Constituency 11 in the House of Assembly told reporters in Akure, the State Capital on Friday that immediately his attention was drawn to the controversial posters, he informed the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who promised to unravel those behind it.

He said, “I did not tell anybody that I am interested in the National Assembly seat; if I want to contest any election, I will not do it in secrecy.”

I am a party man and principal officer of the House of Assembly for that matter. If I want to contest for any position, my posters will show the logo of the particular party under which I am contesting.

“Those who printed my posters wanted to create acrimony between me and Eni Omosule, the incumbent lawmaker representing Owo/Ose in the House of Representatives”.

  • LP chieftains protest ‘hijack’ of party structure

Leaders of the Labour Party (LP) from three states in the Southwest yesterday stormed the party secretariat in Ibadan to protest the alleged hijacking of party structure by defectors from opposition parties. They announced that they have headed to court to reclaim their mandates.

Party leaders from Ogun, Ekiti and Oyo said they had earlier passed their grievances to the national headquarters, where they alleged some people were been used to work against the interest of their party.

They were unanimous in their rejection of the hijacking of the party’s structure by the defectors.

The chieftains appealed to the leadership to follow the party constitution, which is clear on how leaders could emerge from the party.

Comrade Onile Adams, the former treasurer from Ekiti State, said he has approached an Ado Ekiti High Court, which has granted him an injunction that the status quo be maintained, until the final determination of the case.

Adams said in December 2011, he was given a letter to run the affairs of the party in Ekiti State but wondered why recently he heard of the new executive announced from the headquarters against the guideline of the party’s constitution.

He added:” The same hijacking of the party’s constitution was also experienced in Oyo, Ekiti and Ogun states where new people were announced as the interim executives of the party.”

  • Ekiti, Bamidele trade words over finances

House of Representatives member and Labour Party(LP) governorship aspirant, Opeyemi Bamidele, has accused Governor Kayode Fayemi of wasting nearly N400 billion since assumption of office.

He made the allegation yesterday in his Iyin-Ekiti country home at the weekend during the LP’s ward congresses held across the 17 wards in the state.

But the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Tayo Ekundayo, fired back, describing the lawmaker as a pathological liar.

He said Bamidele has always employed lying to deal with his perceived enemies.

Bamidele accused the state of taking N3 billion monthly, saying the deduction has accumulated to N120 billion.

According to him: “This is aside 16 Local Governments who also take a sum of N3 billion monthly which amounts to N120 billion in 40 months.

“We also receive money from the SURE-P, MDGs, Ecological Funds and the N25 billion taken from the Capital Market.”

But speaking with reporters on phone, Ekundayo said: “Where did he get the figure from. What is the entire money coming to the state? This is political season and people will conjure all sorts of all.

“Again, we have always known Bamidele as a veteran liar. He does not ever hide his hatred for the truth all his life.

“There was never a time Ekiti gets N3 billion

allocation. If he could tell lie in this regard, he is capable of telling lies on other issues. He is just running his mouth.”

He added: “Let the people be alert not to be swayed by his lies. More of such lies will come from him from time to time. But, again, his lying strategy is an indication that Ekiti people should be wary of his evil plans.”

  • Late Ondo lawmaker’s associate allege neglect

Late Ondo lawmaker’s associate allege neglect

Political associates of Raphael Nomiye aka Groovy who represented Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency in Ondo state have cried out over alleged neglect by the ruling Labour Party (LP) barely two months after he slumped and died.

Nomiye, a chieftain of LP and close associate of Governor Olusegun Mimiko died in his residence in Abuja late last year.

His associates, who gathered at his Okitipupa residence under the aegis of Groovy Political Forum (GPF), berated the state government and leaders of the party for neglecting them.

The group, which comprises some members of Nomiye’s family and notable politicians from the coastal area of the state, said they converged to re-strategise sustain the legacies of the late legislator.

Its chairman, Prince Olatokunbo Daniel, told reporters it was quite unfortunate the leadership of LP and government in the state felt unconcerned about sustainability of the group.

He recalled that the group played prominent roles during previous elections that brought the party to limelight in the state.

Daniel explained that the neglect was a deliberate ploy by some highly- placed chieftains in the party to destroy the political structure of the late legislator.

While appreciating Mimiko for his positive roles during the burial of the legislator, Daniel said members of the group had been sidelined in the party’s activities in the area since the demise of its leader.

  • 2015: Labour Party begins mobilisation in Edo

A head of next year general elections, the Labour Party in Edo State has begun mobilisation of members into the party.

The party said it began the mobilisation process because it hoped to field candidates for both the state and national assembly elections.

The Chairman of the party’s Contact and Mobilisation Committee, Peter Aguele who stated this at a press briefing yesterday said they were also embarking on expansion of the LP in the state with a view to wooing back aggrieved members of the party.

He said the chances of the party in next year’s elections were bright and that the party will field candidates across the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to him, “The party, having realised that the people of the state have been short-changed from enjoying the dividends of democracy, has decided to take the bold step by positioning themselves to winning all the elections in the forthcoming general elections in 2015 and subsequent ones like the gubernatorial election in the state.

“We intend to bring back those members that are aggrieved or sub-changed in the past and decided to leave the party for other parties. We will let them know that Labour Party is still on ground and promised to do all those things that it promised,” he added.

A communique was issued at the end of the group’s meeting in Benin City, the state capital.

In the communiqué signed by the National Coordinator and General Secretary, Victor Aigbe and Oghenekaro Odje respectively, the group urged President Jonathan to tackle oil theft in the country as well as provide modern crime fighting equipment for the Nigeria Police.
