    Makinde seeks prayers, goodwill

    Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has hailed Muslim Ummah on the start of Ramadan 1445.

    The governor, who described the holy month as blessed, urged Muslims to pray for the country.

    Makinde called for increased prayers amid the hardship, noting though leaders are trying to turn things around, prayers are of greater essence at this time.

    He asked Muslims to demonstrate love, kindness and good neighbourliness as taught by Prophet Mohammed.

    “I felicitate my Muslim brothers and sisters on commencement of the month of Ramadan 1445.

    “This is another opportunity offered to us by Allah (SWT) to serve Him and seek His face.

    “I urge the Muslim Ummah to pray for our state and Nigeria, because prayer is the key to make things happen.

    “Our country is in hardship, but while we look up to  leaders to do the needful, we must pray to God.

    “I also ask my Muslim brothers and sisters to remember their neighbours and show kindness.

    “I pray Allah SWT rewards your worship as Ibadah.”

    Makinde, Adeleke to lead Ondo PDP reconciliation efforts

    Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mandated Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and his Osun State counterpart, Ademola Adeleke, to join in leading reconciliation efforts in its Ondo State chapter where some members are drawing wrong conclusion that a decision has been taken on zoning of the governorship ticket.

    PDP National Publicity Secretary Mr. Debo Ologunagba said there is no decision on zoning yet and the two governors will join other members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to lead the reconciliation efforts and ensure a level-playing field for contending groups in its Ondo State chapter.

    The NWC commends the party stakeholders from Ondo State for their openness and commitment towards the stability and success of the party in the forthcoming governorship election.

    Makinde vows to give best despite tough times

    Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said his administration would continue to give its best to the people despite the challenging times.

    He said this yesterday during the presentation of 28 18-seater buses to tertiary institutions at the car park of the Governor’s Office, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

    Addressing the students, Governor Makinde, who noted that the country is passing through a tough period, said it will soon be over.

    He said his administration would never relent in giving the best to the state and its people.

    The governor said he was sensitive to the hardship foisted on the students as a result of the tough times and encouraged them to endure, as the hardship would soon end.

    He said he had just signed the state scholarship and bursary awards for 2024, adding that he would ensure the disbursement was done seamlessly and with integrity.

    The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has praised Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde, for their unwavering commitment to students’ welfare.

    A statement by NANS Senate president, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez lauded Sanwo-Olu for involving student leaders in governance and demonstrating a willingness to engage with and empower youths.

    NANS also hailed Makinde for providing buses to all tertiary institutions in Oyo state, including NANS and other student bodies.

    It described it as a significant step towards improving the accessibility and mobility of students.

    The student body called on other governors to prioritise investments in education, provide adequate infrastructure and resources for learning institutions, and actively engage with students to understand their needs and concerns.

    A former federal legislator, Hon Shina Peller, has congratulated Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde on his recognition as the Governor of the Year by the management of the Leadership Newspaper.

    Peller’s congratulatory message was contained in a personal statement on his social media platforms where he described the award as a well-deserved one.

    The former lawmaker, who is the Ayedero of Yorubaland, expressed delight in having Makinde as a leader, adding the Governor of the Year award is a testament to his impressive leadership attributes and firm commitment to delivering good governance to the people of Oyo State.

    The Oke Ogun-born businessman-cum-politician, who recently defected from Accord party to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), reaffirmed his membership of the PDP and expressed happiness that Oyo PDP is being led by an “exceptional leader” like Governor Makinde.

    IGP hails Makinde for successful  14th Police Games

    • Force Headquarters crowned champions 

    The Force Headquarters at the weekend emerged victorious as the week-long 14th  Biennial Police Games tagged ‘Oluyole 2024’ came to an end  on Saturday amid pomp and ceremony.

    Zone 2 came second while Zone 11 finished in the third place amongst the 17 zones plus the Force Headquarters that participated in the Games.

    Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Adamasingba stadium, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo  State, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun , praised the athletes for showcasing their Athletic prowess and for projecting the good image of the Nigeria Police Force.

    He also commended the Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support towards the success of the police games. 

    “We appreciate the Governor and the people of Oyo State for creating an enabling atmosphere for the success of the game,” he said. 

    The IGP further urged the athletes and sport loving Nigerians to continue to foster unity and embrace the spirit of sportsmanship.

    Meanwhile, in the final of the football match played during the closing ceremony, Zone 4, Makurdi show their mastery of the round leather game  with a 3-0 defeat of Zone 11, Osogbo  to clinch the gold medal. 

    In the female tug of war finals, Zone 14 Katsina, defeated Zone 5, Benin by 2-1 while the team IGP won in the female category.

    The event also witnessed invitational relay race and tug of war among sister security agencies.

    Oluyole 2024: We are pacesetters, Ibadan Chiefs hail Makinde

    Stakeholders in Ibadanland, including Mogajis, Chiefs, sons and daughters of the ancient city have commended successful completion of the 14th edition of Biennial Police Games tagged “Oluyole 2024” hosted by the Oyo State Government.

    The stakeholders said Oyo State, having hosted over 4,000 police officers across Nigeria,  including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was a testament that that indeed the city remained pacesetter to others. 

    A statement by President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori and Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade described the game as one of the best in the history of Oyo and best organised event in the history of the game.

    The duo said the event has added positively to the economic advancement of Ibadan and Oyo State in general by playing host to eminent Nigerians during the game.

    The statement applauded the roles played by Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde for the success of the game.

    “It must be be on record that the role played by the Chief of staff to Governor Makinde, Hon. Ogunwuyi and the S.A to the Governor on Security, Rtd. CP Fatai Owoseni in ensuring the success of the Sport fiesta can not be over emphasised,” the statement reads.

    It commended Makinde for creating enabling environment for participants and releasing facilities for them to use during the game. 

    The statement also commended the role of Mogajis in Ibadanland in ensuring hitch-free and peaceful game.

    Makinde moves against rising food prices

    Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared measures towards addressing the rising cost of food in the state.

    He said his administration would do everything to make life easy for residents.

    The governor, who made this known yesterday at a meeting with stakeholders in the agriculture sector, held at Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, said his government would subsidise land clearing for farmers across the state with an initial sum of N600 million.

    He added: “Farmers are expected to pay N15,000, instead of N30,000, for land clearing, while government will pay the balance.”

    He declared immediate suspension of revenue collection on farm produce marketed within the state for the next six months, noting, however, that agricultural produce taken out of the boundaries of Oyo State would attract necessary revenues.

    Makinde said government would provide tractors and haulage trucks for farmers, among other measures.

    The governor, who said the state had disbursed N1billion to smallholder farmers through the Sustainable Action for Economic recovery (SAfER), noted that Agriculture Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS) loan support to farmers would no longer require a civil servant as guarantor.

    He said farm associations will now guarantee their members to have access to the loan.

    Protest: Makinde joins NLC, says hardship will soon be over

    Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state on Tuesday, February 27, joined labour unions and their affiliates in a peaceful protest where he assured the people that the current pains and hardship in the country would soon be over.

    Makinde, who stormed the Total Garden Junction, Oritamefa, Ibadan in a surprise move, also addressed the protest.

    The governor who arrived while the Oyo NLC chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins was addressing the protesters, was welcomed with a huge shout and hailing by the protesters who were at the event in their hundreds.

    He said he was aware of the hardship in town and the difficulty the people were going through, promising that he would be part of the generation that would fix the country.

    He said he had replied to the NLC national president, Comrade Joe Ajero who claimed that no state in the country is paying wage awards to the workers.

    He also assured the workers that their letters of protest and complaints would be delivered to President Bola Tinubu.

    Police Games will boost sports tourism, says Makinde

    Oyo State Governor Eng. Seyi Makinde has commended the Nigeria Police Force for bringing the

    14th  Biennial Police Games tagged Oluyole 2024 to the south western part of the country, saying it will boost the economic activities of the state.

    Makinde stated this during the opening ceremony of the 14th  biennial Police Games, which began on Saturday in Ibadan amid fanfare. 

    He said: “The Oyo State Government is hosting the competition in the first quarter of the second tenure of omituntun 2.0. The sports festival will boost the tourism sector in Nigeria and it is an avenue to project new athletes to the world.”

    The Governor further commended the NPF for producing Chioma Ajunwa, the country’s first Olympic Games gold medalist in long jump, among other world-class athletes. 

    The colorful opening ceremony had all the 17 zonal commands of the federation in attendance. 

    The sporting event tagged “competing for peace, unity, stability and development of Nigeria, ends March 2nd  in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

    Also, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has  urged the athletes to compete according to the rules of the Games and uphold the core values of professionalism. 

    The IGP further added that the Games was a fertile ground for nurturing sport talents while affirming that the 2024 edition would surpass previous editions. 

    The 2024 Police Games has over 4000 athletes across the 17 zonal commands of the Nigeria Police Force competing for honours.
