    Brand lights up Lagos, Abuja for festive season

    Malt brand, Maltina,  from the stable of Nigerian Breweries Plc, has welcomed the festive season with colour, warmth and community spirit as it lights up Lagos and Abuja. The events, held simultaneously, brought together government representatives, company executives, partners, influencers, and the public.

    In Lagos, the Light-Up took place at Obafemi Awolowo Way, with the unveiling point positioned at Allianz Media Garden, opposite the light park. Guests were received by cultural performers, and residents. Brand Ambassador, Tomike Adeoye and lifestyle influencer, Priscilla Ojo were present to capture the essence of the holiday celebrations.

    In Abuja, the magic unfolded on Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse, with the main unveiling at Layback space, near NICON Junction. The lights were joinly switched on by Representative of the Mandate Secretary of Federal Capital Territory Social Development Secretariat, Mr. Shaka Sunday; Representative of the Coordinator at Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Mrs. Uche Obi; Deputy Director of Information & Communication; Director of Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signage, Dr. Fatima Amanabo; Head of Legal Unit at National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, Umar Bida; and Head of Technology Transfer Registration, Jonas Nzegwu.

    In Lagos, company Managing Director, Thibaut Boidin; Board Member, Adeyinka Aroyewun; Marketing Director, Sarah Agha; and Representative of Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Olajumoke James, joined in switching on the lights, unveiling radiant installations that transformed the district into a festive wonderland.

    The illumination was complemented by colourful bursts of confetti, pyro effects, and a cultural performance celebrating Nigeria’s diverse heritage. Speaking on the inspiration behind the Light-Up experience, Boidin said: “This season, we asked ourselves: what better way to celebrate a legendary Christmas than by lighting up Lagos? Starting here felt right. Lagos holds a special place in our hearts. Nigeria’s modern story began in this city, and for us, our story began here too. In 1946, everything started in Lagos, and Maltina was born here as well. So, it only feels fitting that we begin this Christmas experience in the very place where it all started. We want to spread light, joy, and a sense of celebration.”

    For Maltina, the Light-Up experience is a reminder that even in challenging times, there is room for connection, happiness and celebration. And with Ibadan next, that spirit of togetherness continues to spread across the country.

    Maltina, Nigeria’s leading malt drink, has officially unveiled its new 25cl and 50cl PET bottle variants as part of a bold Back-to-School campaign themed “Nourishment Fit for You.” 

    The launch, held on Thursday, 28 August 2025, at the Lagos Marriott Hotel in Lagos, marks a significant step in Maltina’s mission to nourish families, support learners and celebrate the teachers who inspire them.

    The two new PET variants reflect Maltina’s commitment to meeting consumer needs with choice and accessibility. 

    The 25cl PET bottle has been created with children in mind, perfectly sized for lunchboxes and snack breaks, while still delivering the same rich Maltina taste and essential nourishment.

    Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiw­erei Education Trust Fund has announced winner of the 2024 Maltina Teacher of The Year (MTOTY) award, the 10th edition, will receive N10 million, a trophy, get a  capacity development training abroad  and a fully-equipped block of classrooms or computer laboratory for the school.

     The new prize money  is an upward review of the star prize from N6.5 million for the competition since it began in 2015

    Speaking at the flag-off cer­emony in Lagos,  Managing Director of Nige­rian Breweries PLC, Hans Es­saadi, who was represented by the Human Resource Director, NB PLC, Grace Omo-Lamai noted  that the flag-off of this year’s edition represents the beginning of another journey to appreciating and celebrating the tireless efforts and dedica­tion of teachers.

    The organisers noted that entries for the competition opened on Thursday, May 16, 2024, and will close on Friday, July 19, 2024.

    Second­ary teachers in pub­lic and private schools are eli­gible to participate in the 10th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.

    Lagos tutor is 2023 Maltina Teacher

    Lagos State teacher, Adeola Adefemi, has won this year’s Maltina Teacher of the Year award. She was announced at the ceremony in Lekki, Lagos on Friday night.

    Adefemi, who teaches  English language  at Keke Senior High School, Agege, under Education District 1, is the first Lagos teacher to win the award.

    She defeated Azuh Emmanuel, of Delta State and Adam Nda,  of  Niger. Adefemi will receive N6.5 million (N1.5 million immediately and N1million annually for five years) from Nigerian Breweries – Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund.

    She will  be part of an all-expense paid training abroad while a fully equipped computer laboratory or six-classroom block worth N20 million will be built for her  school.

     Emmanuel, first runner-up, won N1.5 million, while Nda, second runner-up, got N1, 25 million. Other state champions were also rewarded with N500,000 each.

     Jamiu Balogun, commissioner for Basic Education, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said: “Teaching is an honourable profession. Teachers are parents of every pupil when in school.

    “Our administration will support creativity and performance of teachers on the job. No subject area in our public schools will lack qualified teachers. I commend the organisers for this award.” 

     Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, noted no education reform can take place without teachers.

    “This event  is an impactful landmark.  It sets out to celebrate outstanding teachers. Today marks a milestone in revamping education sector. No education reform will take place without teachers. Our education is focused on developing children through efforts of teachers” he said.

    Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs. Sade Morgan, noted entries for this year were the highest. “We had 1499 entries. It shows the competition is popular and recognised.

    Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was set up in 1994 with N100 million to enable sustained quality education through structured intervention in the sector.

    The fund has footprints in the six geographical zones at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education.

    A Lagos State teacher Adeola Adefemi has won the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year award.

    She was announced as winner at the ceremony which held in Lekki,Lagos on Saturday night.

    Adefemi, who teaches English Language at Keke Senior High School, Agege, under the state’s Education District 1, is the first Lagos teacher to win the award.

    She defeated Azuh Chike Emmanuel of Delta State who was first runner up and Adam Abdulqadir Nda of Niger who was second runner up to win the prize.

    Adefemi goes home with N6.5 million; Azuh in second position takes N1.5 million while Adam Abdulqadir Nda in third place takes N1.2 million.

    Lagos Commissioner for Basic Education, Jamiu Alli Balogun who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said: “Teaching is an honorable profession. Teachers are parents of every student when in school,there are a lot who formed bond with their students. It is the pride of every teacher to see their wards succeed in life. We are proud to resonate with this award which supports and empowers teachers.

    “Our administration in Lagos will continue to support creativity and performance of teachers on the job. No subject area in our public schools will lack qualified teachers. I commend the organisers for continuing this award.”

    “We had 1499 entries, the highest number ever. It shows the competition is popular and recognized in Nigeria. We had 1203 eligible entries. Teachers who participated are registered members of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN),” she said.

    The Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was set up in 1994 with a startup capital of 100 million Naira to enable sustained quality education through structured intervention in the sector.
    The Fund has footprints across the six geographical zones in Nigeria at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education.

    Breweries names Top 10 Maltina Teacher finalists

    Top Ten finallists teachers for 2023 edition of Maltina Teacher of the Year competition organised by Nigerian Breweries’ Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund have been announced.

      All scored highest of 172 teachers that made the second phase grading by the panel of judges, following the first phase grading of 1203 teachers that were successful of 1499 entries received.

     The finalists include Gilamdo Kwem (Government Girls’ Secondary School, Adamawa); Azuh Emmanuel (Ezemu Girls Grammar School, Delta State); Melvina Igboanugo (Roseville Secondary School, Enugu State); Ajibola Oluwagbenga (Premiere Academy, Abuja); and Daniel Ochonu (Dutse Model International Secondary School, Jigawa). 

    Others are Susan Uchegbu (Bristow International Academy, Kano); Abubakar Adam (Barewa College, Zaria); Adeola Adefemi, (Keke Senior High School, Lagos); Adam Nda (Model Science College, Niger State); and Nwagbo Christopher, (The Ambassadors College, Ogun State).

    To determine the winner and runners-up for the 9th edition of the competition, the top 10 finalists will undergo a formal interview and assessment with the panel of judges, expounding on their entries to complete the rigorous selection process for the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year.

    Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries, Mrs. Sade Morgan, praised the judges for their service and dedication.

    Morgan thanked partners, Federal Ministry of Education, Lagos State, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Nigeria Union of Teachers as well as 2023 co-sponsors; Air Peace and Stanbic IBTC.

     Winner and state champions will be announced by Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, at the grand finale on Thursday in Lagos.

    172 qualify for final stage of Maltina’s Teacher competition

    Atotal of 172 teachers from 29 states and the Federal Capital Territory have made it through the first round of grading and will jostle for honours in the 2023 edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition organised by the Nigerian Breweries’ Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund.

    Out of the 1,203 valid entries received for the 2023 edition of the competition, 172 teachers adjudged with the highest scores emerged for the next round.

    Speaking on the first grading exercise, the Project Consultant, Prof. Uchenna Udeani, explained that the entries had been carefully scrutinised and graded by a team of experienced lecturers, after which 172 teachers made the cut-off with the highest scores to proceed to the second phase.

    Udeani disclosed that the 172 successful entries will be passed to the competition’s distinguished panel of judges for the final grading that will produce the top 10 candidates and state champions.

    In her remarks, the Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mrs. Sade Morgan, expressed satisfaction with the high level of participation of teachers in this year’s edition. She also noted that the competition recorded its highest number of valid entries since inception with 1,203 valid entries out of 1,499 entries submitted.

    Morgan reaffirmed the commitment of the Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund to rewarding outstanding teachers through the competition.

    She restated that the overall winner of the competition would receive a trophy, a total cash prize of N6.5 million, and capacity development training while the winner’s school receives either a block of classroom or a computer laboratory.

    She tasked the panel of judges headed by Prof. Pat Utomi to carry out the rigorous evaluation process, as always, to ensure that the best teacher emerges as the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year.

    It would be recalled that the call for entry for the 9th edition of the competition kicked off on May 25, 2023, while submission of entries closed on August 4, 2023.

    The winner of the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition and the state champions would be announced, celebrated and rewarded at the grand finale scheduled for October 20, 2023 in Lagos.

  • Maltina holds NickFest

    Thousands of children swarmed around Nickelodeon characters at the third Nickfest and Maltina Family outdoor show, held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Lagos.

    The two-day event featured singing, face-painting, slime-making and role-playing.

    Nickelodeon characters, such as Happy the Mascot, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Chase and Marshall from Paw Patrol, and Shimmer and Shine, welcomed the children.

    Nickelodeon, in partnership with Maltina, launched Nickfest in 2017. Since then, it has served as an avenue for children to share in the happiness that Maltina and Nickelodeon provides.

    Three years after, Nickfest has become a cultural staple for children and their families in Lagos, courtesy of Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN) and Maltina.

    Portfolio Manager, Non-alcoholic Brands, Nigerian Breweries, Ngozi Nkwoji, extolled the attributes of Maltina, explaining why it was important for them to partner Nickelodeon.

    The memory of the Ileya festival will remain refreshing in the mind of Ilorin residents as Gbenga Adeyinka and other top entertainers stormed the city with the best of music and comedy to mark the holiday.

    The Laffmattazz train which was brought to Ilorin was supported by Maltina brand who had their crew  on hand to deliver their premium malt taste to guests at the show, as well as keep them engaged with games and other fun activities.

    The show which was tagged “Loud In Ilorin”,  held at the Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin and it witnessed the presence of important personalities as well as A-list actors, music artists and comedians. Kicking off at 2 pm the show had performances from the likes of Terry G, Eedris Abdukareem, Majek Fashek, Jaywon, Qdot, Lord of Ajasa, Helen Paul, Omobaba, Princess and other entertainers who the crowd were so delighted to see.

    Gbenga Adeyinka who has been the show’s headliner for the last six years made a grand entrance right after Small Doctor’s performance. He held the audience down for nearly twenty minutes with rib-cracking jokes and the right demonstrations to keep everyone entertained. The last performance of the day came from Reminisce who wrapped things up with some of his well-known hits.

    Fans were totally delighted at the show and the opportunity to mark the holiday in a fun way. A visibly excited attendee, Umaru Salaudeen said;

    “This was a really good show and money well spent. The comedians were on point with their jokes, same as the artistes, especially 2Baba. I am happy I came out to experience it.”

    Oluseun Lawal, Senior Brand Manager, Maltina, expressed delight at the success of the show and the opportunity it gave the brand to engage with consumers.
