    Appeal court did not nullify MC Oluomo’s election, says NURTW

    The Southwest Coordinator of Elders’ Forum of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Moshood Ajao, has clarified that Appeal Court did not nullify the election of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo) as the union’s national president.

    Ajao, in a statement, explained that  Akinsanya was elected at the Zonal Delegates Conference of NURTW in Osogbo on November 9, 2024 and was never a party to any court proceedings.

    According to him, Akinsanya neither filed nor was part of the appeal that was described as devoid of merit.

    He explained that the Appeal Court judgment was delivered in Abuja on November 8, 2024 while the Zonal Delegates Conference in Osogbo was conducted on November 9, 2024.

    Ajao said members of NURTW, particularly delegates at conference and Alhaji Akinsanya were not aware of any judgment when the election was conducted.

    He said Akinsanya  was neither a petitioner nor a defender in the said case.

    Ajao explained that the decision to elect  Akinsanya as President of NURTW was to achieve peace in the union as he was not a party to any litigation and crisis of leadership in NURTW.

    Following his emergence as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Union (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo) was yesterday sworn in at the union’s national secretariat in Abuja.

    Akinsanya emerged through consensus during the Quadrennial Delegate Conference at its Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Saturday.

    Four states in the southwest including Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo participated in the election after the position had been zoned to the region by the national body arrangement.

    Amidst songs, Akinsanya was ushered into the union’s national secretariat by a large crowd.

    He was introduced to the National Administrative Council (NAC) and Central Working Committee (CWC) members.

    Not quite long, the official swearing in programme commenced.

    The union’s Legal Officer, Mercy Ibeh conducted the exercises.

    While Akinsanya was sworn in as the national president, the duo of Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede and Akeem Adeosun were sworn in as Vice President, Southwest and Trustee.

    Akinsanya thanked everyone for making his emergence and swearing in a reality.

    He expressed gratitude to all union members and his admirers.

    He promised to uphold the constitution of the union.

    “I promised to lead the union to a greater height with the help of almighty Allah,” he said.

    The union president called for calm and unity among union members.

    According to him, welfare of the union members would be his priority.

    Musliu Akinsanya popularly called ‘MC Oluomo’ has emerged the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Union (NURTW) after a consensus election by union stakeholders and delegates.

    He emerged on Saturday evening at the Quadrennial Delegate Conference at its Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State on Saturday.

    Four states in the Southwest including Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo states participated in the election after the position had been zoned to the region by the national body.

    The conference which produced Akinsanya was supervised by the Acting National President of the union, Aliyu Issa-Ore who noted that the union’s constitution provided that the zone which is its turn to produce the president, elect and present such a person to the National Secretariat.

    Issa-Ore who was represented by the Head of Finance, National Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs Adedamola Salam, applauded the Southwest zone of the union for complying with the constitution and elected Akinsanya as the president.

    The delegate also elected Tajudeen Agbede as its Vice President, Southwest and Akeem Adeosun, as trustee from the zone.

    After taking oath of office, Oluomo urged every member to allow peace reign reiterating his commitment to unity in the union.

    “I have forgiven everyone that offended me and I wish those I have offended would forgive me as well. This is our union and we must be committed to its preservation. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”

    Four South West States, including Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti and Ondo participated in the election after the position was zoned to the region by the national body.

    The conference, which produced Akinsanya was supervised by the acting National President of the union, Aliyu Issa-Ore, who noted that the union’s constitution provided that the zone which turn it is to produce the president-elect and present such person to the National Secretariat. 

    Issa-Ore, who was represented by the Head of Finance, National Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs Adedamola Salam, applauded the southwest zone for complying with the constitution and electing Akinsanya as the president.

    Ogun NURTW joins Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos to endorse MC Oluomo for union’s president 

    The Ogun State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has become the latest state to endorse former NURTW Lagos State Council Chairman Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo), for the union’s National President position.

    Its chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Ismail (aka Yaro Ade) said Akinsanya is more desirous of the union’s top position going by his antecedents.

    With Ogun State Council endorsement, Akinsanya is poised to be elected as the National President of the NURTW.

    Three other states where the union is in operation Lagos, Ondo and Ekiti have earlier thrown their support behind Akinsanya for the position.

    Alhaji Ismail said it would be ungrateful for union members in Ogun State not to back Akinsanya’s ambition.

    “He has done a lot to ensure the NURTW returns in Ogun State. He was with us all through the challenging period. It is only normal to return his good gesture with our support,” he said.

    Alhaji Ismail said he has high regard for the other contestant for the position, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, but Akinsanya has played a big role in deserving the state union’s endorsement.

    “The office of the National President of the NURTW has been zoned to the Southwest. I’m not in doubt that all the four states where the union is operating will queue behind Akinsanya,” he said.

    Last week, the Ekiti State Council at the emergency meeting held with state officers and Branch/Zonal Chairmen, endorsed Akinsanya for the union’s President.

    The Ekiti State Council, led by Chief Joseph Falope, praised Akinsaya’s leadership traits, dedication, loyalty, and commitment to public service.

    Falope said his endorsement for the union’s top position was based on his ability to communicate respectfully with people of all ages and backgrounds.

    According to him, the Ekiti State Council is comfortable with the leadership acumen of Akinsanya.

    Chairman of Ondo State Council Odudu Ademola and members also endorsed the candidacy of Akinsanya for National President of the union at the state council Secretariat in Akure, Ondo state.

    Speaking after an emergency meeting of the State officers and Branch Chairmen, Ademola noted that due to Akinsanya’s leadership quality that stands him out as a “worthy choice for the exalted and prestigious position”, the entire officers and members of the union in Ondo state had resolved to endorse him.

    He added that with him in charge of NURTW at the national level, there is going to be improvements in the union.

    The Ekiti State Council made the resolution at the emergency meeting with state officers and Branch/Zonal Chairman.

    The Ekiti State Council, led by Chief Joseph Falope, praised Akinsaya’s leadership traits, dedication, loyalty, and commitment to public service.

    Falope said his endorsement for the union’s top position was based on his ability to communicate respectfully with people of all ages and backgrounds.

    According to him, the Ekiti State council is comfortable with the leadership acumen of Akinsanya.

    “In both personal and professional realms, Alhaji Akinsanya is a leader of repute; he communicates with respect to both younger and older people and always stays friendly and cheerful. His tolerance, sincerity, loyalty, perseverance and hard-work is the best, this adaptability makes him the right candidate for our union.     Leader of the Real Concerned Citizens of Lagos State, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), yesterday appealed to Nigerians, especially those behind the planned hunger protest, to give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu more time.

    Akinsanya stated this yesterday during a briefing at Oshodi.

    According to him, meaningful development comes with pains and takes time to actualise.

    He said great nations have passed through their own challenging period, assuring that Nigerians would soon smile when the results of Tinubu’s administration’s policies start manifesting.

    He urged youths to show understanding with the government.

    According to him, protest is a constitutional right of every individual, but it should be carried out in a civilised manner.

    “We should not forget what happened during the #EndSARS# protest. Most of the things destroyed have not been replaced today and we the masses are the ones suffering for it. The lives that were lost cannot be replaced again. The repercussion of the last protest which claimed many lives and led to the destruction of huge and valuable public assets in Lagos State is still very fresh in our memory. Also, it is viable to make known to all that some families are still mourning their lost loved ones and some are yet to recover because they lost their bread winners,” he said.

    Chairman of the Real Concerned Lagos Citizen, Olamilekan Taiwo, said “we the Real Concerned Citizens of Lagos State cannot open our eyes and allow some destructive elements to destroy what our forefathers have built, or destroy our Lagos; which is fast becoming the most developed states in the whole of Africa.

    “On this note, we dissociate ourselves from any protest at this period in all our communities. We urge all concerned residents to please shelve their plans of re-awakening a sleeping dog. We stand for peace, progress and unity and we shall continue to foster same in all our communities. If you must protest, ensure you peacefully gather either in the front of your Local Government Council or the Lagos State Secretariat, hand over your protest demands to the Public Officers in Charge and peacefully return back home. Our properties, assets and the lives of our residents are very valuable to us and we cannot afford to lose any.

    “We advise all parents to caution and guide their children, as the atmosphere is envisioned to remain calm and peaceful, while we shall continue to engage the government on the demands and requests of all concerned citizens.”

    A socio-political activist and President/Founder, Eti-Osa Youths Development Initiative, Ayodeji Laurent, said “Lagos State is our home, Lagos is our father’s land, all the assets and properties their-in are our great heritage. Therefore, not again will we allow whoever, regardless of where you are coming from or the son or daughter of who you are destroy them again.

    “We urge those who want to protest to be peaceful. Do not to stop others from going about their daily endeavors. Do not block the roads in the name of protest. If you must protest, do not destroy any public property.  Write out your protest demands in black and white and peacefully submit same and return back home.”

    I’m rededicating myself to good course of humanity, says MC Oluomo as he clocks 49

    Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos chapter, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo has reflected on his past year as he turns 49 today, March 14.

    The philanthropist, via his Instagram page, revealed that 2023 taught him a new life lesson, while describing it as eventful, noting how he learnt a lot of lessons among others.

    He revealed that he has learnt an important lesson which is to keep friends close, saying that those who are truly dedicated and loyal should be drawn closer.

    MC Oluomo further revealed that he has reflected on so many things, adding that he is using his birthday to rededicate himself to the good course of humanity.

    He wrote: “Alhamdulilah, Alhamdulilah, Alhamdulilah. What shall I say to almighty Allah, all I have to say is thank you, Allah. I’m grateful to Almighty Allah for yet another age. I’m so grateful for the gift of life and all that comes with it.

    “Last year” was eventful! A lot of lessons were learned and many things hitter to unknown were made bear.

    “New life lessons were learned and of course, the struggle continues. But as eventful as last year was, I learnt an all-important lesson to always keep your “friends” close but those that are truly dedicated and loyal closer.

    “I have reflected on so many things and as it is customary to me, I’m using my birthday and new age to yet again re-dedicate myself to the good course of humanity. I will serve humanity the very best way I can, hoping that posterity will handle the rest.

    “I Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya… E ru ndupe ooo. Happy birthday to me.”
