  • What men really want in bed

    Enthusiasm

When it comes to sex, you can get an ‘A’ for effort. Guys want to be with someone who’s actually into sex and not doing it as a favour or just going through the motions. ‘There is nothing more seductive than an enthusiastic lover,’ says Lou Paget, certified sex educator and author of The Big O: Orgasms: How to Have Them, Give Them, and Keep Them Coming. ‘That beats out the perfect body or the perfect face anytime. A man wants feedback that a woman is into doing things with him!’

    New tricks

Men want a lover who is willing to try new things from time to time. That doesn’t mean you have to go all 50 Shades of Grey. Just be open to ideas. ‘Sexual desire is like an appetite,’ says Paget. ‘We all want to try different flavours – otherwise we’d get bored eating at the same place all the time. Men want someone who is willing to explore unique feelings and new sensations.’

Worried that whatever you do is suddenly going to become part of your nightly repertoire? Don’t think of it as a can of worms. Most likely the occasional change-up is all he needs.

    Praise

We normally think of women as the ones who need reassurance about their appearance, but men get insecure, too. A lover who will find something to compliment and worship about her partner will never lack affection from him.

‘Every man wants to know they have that special something that turns a woman on,’ says Paget. ‘It could be something that turns her head or something like his intelligence or sense of humour that she finds incredibly sexy.’

    Bossiness

It’s not a cliché, ladies. A man wants a woman who will tell him what to do – at least in the bedroom. Most guys will be thankful for a little instruction, especially if it means they’ll succeed at pleasuring you.

‘A woman who can guide you with sounds or one word responses is preferred as it takes away the guess work,’ says Paget. ‘Just remember to avoid acting like a sexual traffic cop!’

    Confidence

Men want someone who will leave the lights on and let him get a good look at her. Stop worrying about covering up any squishy parts. ‘Indirect lighting is Hollywood’s best friend and it can be yours as well,’ says Paget. ‘Need I repeat that men are visual creatures and they want to see their partner? It’s a big part of their turn-on factor.’ Confidence is sexier than anything!

    Sex on the brain

A woman who keeps sex in the forefront of her thoughts knows how to inject it into life outside the bedroom – and that’s sexy. Try sexting him or be extra naughty and playful in public. ‘Do it in a discreet way,’ say Paget. ‘Let your partner know that you’re thinking about sex throughout the day. Remember, your brain is your sexual power source.’

    Flair for fantasy

A man craves someone who will listen to his fantasies – and tell him hers. ‘Many men are scared to share their fantasies as their partner may react by saying, ‘You have got to be kidding, that’s sick,’’ says Paget.

‘You don’t need to give him his exact fantasy but instead try negotiating how you’d both like to feel during the fantasy. Create your own scenario together.’

    Initiative

Guys want someone who sometimes initiates sex but also lets him ‘be the man’. ‘It’s in a man’s DNA to be the caretaker, which also translates into the bedroom,’ says Dr. Sadie Allison, America’s Pleasure Coach and author of Ride ‘Em Cowgirl! Sex Position Secrets for Better Bucking,www.TickleKitty.com.

‘So while most men love to be in charge, always being the initiator can get old. It’s hot when a woman takes control and shows him that she wants him. It’s actually every man’s fantasy to surrender for just a little while!’

    Dirty talk

Men love hearing a play-by-play of what’s happening during sex – or what you want to happen next.

‘What men see, hear and feel are direct lines to the ‘other brain,’’ says Allison. ‘Dirty talk is just another fun way to arouse your man. It also turns them on psychologically because men are super attracted to women who are sexually uninhibited.’

    Hero worship

All men want attention showered on them – especially if that attention is on his private area! Yes, other aspects of sex are important, too. But let’s be honest, most men are fixated on oral sex and any other activities that are genital-focused.

‘Stroke his ego by stroking his cock,’ says Allison. ‘Being a generous lover is key. Worshipping his jewels as much as he does is a good way to keep him totally into you.’

    A massage

What guy doesn’t want a woman who gives great… massages? And not just the sexual sort, though they can be very erotic. Men want to feel good all over, just like you do.

‘Touch is a basic human desire,’ says Allison. ‘Sensual or not, it can be one of the greatest gifts a person can receive. Touching all over usually leads to something more fun anyway.’

    Lace

You might think, why waste money on lingerie that’s just going to get crumpled up in a ball and tossed on the floor in two seconds? But men are visual and seeing the present they are about to unwrap is important to them!

‘A guy likes the ‘for his eyes only’ component of this, with the sneak peak of your body being a total turn-on,’ says Yvonne K. Fulbright, Ph.D., author of Sultry Sex Talk to Seduce Any Lover.

‘Unwrapping you also boosts his ego because he knows you are like a gift, and all his.

  • What a woman wants in a man

What a woman wants in a man

It is true that every woman has got expectations from her man. She desires her ideal man to possess some sterling qualities, behave in a very decent manner and have the financial wherewithal to take care of her. Hope Samson spoke with a cross section of women folk on this subject matter.

Mrs. Charity Maduka has been married for 19 years. She is not interested in whether the man is tall or short, black or white, handsome or not, what matters to her is a man with genuine love, “I want love from my man because love covers multitude of sin. If love exists, he will easily forgive and not raise his hands to beat me or be aggressive,” she said.
She added; “I also want a man that can endure, patient, gentle, easy going and caring. My man should be able to go the extra mile in helping out with the chores at home. He should be able to take me as his better half; he should be there for me always and help out with the house chores.”

But Mrs. Becky Uwani, with 22 years marital experience said her ideal man must have some qualities that stand him out from others, “I want a man that is tall, dark in complexion and handsome. He should be a man that assists in house duties and allows me rest on his chest.”

For Miss. Bisola Adelanwa, currently in a relationship, her ideal man can be of any complexion but she is quick to add that her man must be responsible in all ramifications, “I like a tall lanky, dark man. I think I can go with any complexion. I like a responsible man that has a good dress sense, not flashy but simple and casual.

“I respect a man that is hard working and not dependent on his salary. He should have other means of generating income to sustain himself and family.
“My man should be able to provide for me even without demanding for it. I get upset when a man makes me demand, he should be observant so as to know when I need things instead of expecting me to make demands all the times, “she said.
Priscillia Joseph is not interested in height, complexion or a good-looking man. All she’s after is that the man must be educated and honest.
He words: “Men nowadays are bloody liars and it is very hard to find an honest man. Since most men are not honest, every woman has now devised a way of getting money from her husband if she really wants with her woman power.”
Margaret Okere, an undergraduate said she wants a God-fearing and caring man. She believes that that once the man is caring and showers her with loves she is fine. “A man can’t buy me with his money; he must not use his money to care for me. I feel he is trying to buy my love when he uses his money on me. Calling to ask how I feel and if I have eaten is enough for me to know that he cares for me. Even if he can’t call, a flash is enough for me to know that he thinks of me daily.”
Marvis Ogbeni, currently in a relationship said her man must be God-fearing. “A God-fearing man will make sure his spouse is comfortable on every side and would not want to hurt her because of the love of God that dwells in him.
“I am not moved by the outward appearance of a man, whether, tall or short, fair or black complexioned, rich or poor, ugly or handsome. I look for the inner qualities which makes a man responsible,” she said.
She equally expects her man to have a listening ear and take her as a real woman, “A man that can protect me especially from a troublesome family or mother in-law, a man of understanding mostly when it comes to the areas where I am weak and willing to assist me, is my ideal man.”
On her part, Helen Enebele said: “I just need a man with little money that will love me because there can’t be love without money. I want a man with money and love at the same time and I don’t think love can go without money.”

  • Have you made this mistake with men?

IF you feel unsure about what to say to a man when you first meet, or you don’t know how to spot the signs that will show you a great man from the wrong man early on… or you simply feel frustrated because you’ve been on a few great dates with a man but he STOPPED CALLING and you can’t figure out why…

Then the best thing you can do right now is to try my Meeting The One video programme.

In it, I’ll reveal one of the most common and dangerous mistakes women make in the early stages of dating that completely turn a man off (and make him throw your number away!)

I’ll also show you a simple way to get a man feeling crazy about you – that has NOTHING to do with sex.

You’ll learn how to know if he’s Mr. Right early on, so you don’t waste your precious time with LOSERS, and then you’ll learn how to make Mr. Right actually FALL for you.

Don’t go another day without this valuable and critical tool for reshaping your love life. Stop settling for “good enough” or “not quite.

  • Men who want to replace Ewherido

Men who want to replace Ewherido

As the by-election into the vacant Delta Central Senatorial District seat draws closer, political activities have reached a crescendo with over 20 aspirants already in the race.

Although none of the aspirants have publicly declared their intention to run, their ambitions are a poorly-kept secret.

Posters of some of the aspirants have flooded the streets of Warri and other major cities in the Delta Central senatorial district.

The parties involved are Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and Justice Party (JP).

Among those in the race are ex-House of Representatives members Halims Agoda (PDP), Napoleon Gbinije, (DPP), wealthy businessman and politician O’tega Emerhor, (APC), Ighoyota Amori (PDP), Festus Keyamo (APC), Ede Dafinone, (DPP), Charles Obule (JP), Faith Majemite (PDP), Joe Omene (PDP) and Prof Adegor Eferakeya (APC).

Prof Eferakeya, who ran on the platform of the defunct ACN, was a distant third in the April 2011 election, won by the late Senator Pius Ewerhido.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan raised the stakes in Asaba when he stated that the ruling PDP was determined to win Delta Central senatorial district from the opposition. He said his party would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to win the election.

Uduaghan said he had not endorsed any candidate for the election.

He charged party members to work assiduously to produce an acceptable candidate to enable the PDP work as a united team for its success in the election.

According to Uduaghan it was the responsibility of PDP members in the senatorial district to nominate a candidate that would fly the party’s flag.

His words, “I have not anointed anybody in Delta Central Senatorial District. Any candidate that wants to vie for that position must be nominated by PDP members from the district and should be acceptable to all members of the district. We are ready to come out to campaign for that person.”

But Delta DPP Chair, Chief Tony Ezeagwu disagrees, according to him, Delta Central Senatorial District is DPP stronghold. He said the ruling PDP will be defeated again.

His words, “The bye-election to be conducted by INEC is a simple issue. Even if we field an unknown quantity the DPP will win resoundingly. We have no fear whoever we field will emerge victorious .We are already ready for the election, even if INEC calls for elections tomorrow.”

But does the DPP possess the political clout to reclaim senatorial district? Will the warring factions led by the now deceased senator Pius Ewherido and Chief Great Ogboru close ranks in order to reclaim the position which fell vacant at the demise of Senator Ewherido?

Political pundits believe the DPP has lost its appeal considering the crisis in the party. Another school of thought disagrees pointing at the remarkable turnaround in the fortunes of the party since 2011.

It enjoyed remarkable transformation from a fringe party to the main opposition in Delta politics.

Many attribute the rise of the opposition DPP to the charismatic Great Ogboru. Pundits believe the “People’s General “may work his magic once again to clinch the coveted Delta Central senatorial district position.

Great Ogboru’s appeal appears strong in Delta Central Senatorial District -a mainly Urhobo heartland, and may tip the scales in favour of the opposition DPP.

But the entry of All Progressive Congress (APC) into the race appears to have changed political calculations in the State.

Just before his untimely death, Ewherido had led a faction to join the APC, a move which earned him a suspension order.

Analysts think APC’s ascendancy will further weaken DPP leading many to fear for the party’s chances in the forthcoming election.

But the crisis appears to have continued unabated with the late Ewerhido’s faction endorsing wealthy business man O’tega Emerhor to lead the political legacy left behind by Ewherido

But there is growing agitation among the Ethiope West and East people that the Delta Central senatorial district position be zoned to them.

Delta Central is made up of Okpe/Uvwie/Sapele, Ughelli South/North/Udu and Ethiope West/East constituencies. Some argue that of the ethnic groups that make up the Delta Central, only Ethiope (since 1979) has failed to produce a senator.

Okpe, through Senator David Dafinone, served two terms in 1979; Felix Ibru (Ughelli North) served a term, late Senator Fred Brume (Ughelli/Udu) served in 1999, Senator Adegor Eferakeya (Okpe) served in 2003, leaving Ethiope as the only group not to have assumed the seat.

Of all these aspirants, Chief Ighoyota Amori, Chief Joe Omene and Halims Agoda is the trio from Ethiope Federal Constituency aiming to rewrite history by winning the prized senatorial seat.

Of the three aspirants, Chief Ighoyota Amori appears to be the most prominent. He has served variously as Delta Commissioner for Water Resources Development and Commissioner for Education and Political adviser to James Ibori. He is currently Special Adviser to Gov Emmanuel Uduaghan on Political Affairs.

Although he lost the last elections to the late Pius Ewherido, Amori chances at grabbing the position is considered bright.

With well-oiled political machinery in place, Amori is odds on favourite to win if he is successful in the PDP primaries.

Another aspirant that may upset the applecart is Agoda who represented Okpe/Uvwie/Sapele constituency at the lower legislative chamber of the NASS.

Agoda is young, dynamic and articulate. It remains to be seen whether these attributes can stand him in good stead in the forthcoming elections.

Chief Joe Omene, Idjerhe born chief , is seen as a dark horse in the race. He was a Commissioner representing Delta State on the Board of Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He is a wealthy businessman and PDP chieftain. Does he have the political structure to cause an upset?

  • Electrical gadgets for men

    Electrical gadgets for men

There is no specific time to get that man the electrical gadgets he would cherish. Gadgets such as smart phones, video games, portable radios, eye zone massager, plug in car Mug, Cway water dispenser, clipper, etc. When buying gadgets for men, know the kind of person he is, his preferred gadget, it is necessary to also know his age, so you don’t end up buying the wrong gadget for the wrong age.

When older men decide to buy gadgets for themselves, they prefer portable cameras and smart phones. A younger male will appreciate computer games; CDs, bicycle and the likes.

A trader in Computer Village, Mr Charles Agwu sells portable cameras, laptops and smart phones. He said that his major customers are men.

    An example of gadgets men cannot do without are;

Spy Sunglasses: spending money on this kind of gadget is not a waste, these sunglasses do a lot more than keep the sun out of his eyes. Equipped with a digital camera, these glasses have 2GB of onboard flash memory, and a field view of 60 degrees.

Charging Travel Folio: is a device that charges multiple items at the same time-in one central hub. It is more appreciated by someone that is using more than a cell phone.

Recommended places to get these gadgets are Computer Village and Alaba International market in Lagos.

  • Urine leakage in adult men and women

MRS Ronke Nkpokor, my sister’s daughter, reminds me always of one of her female friends who is a sad woman. She is one of the thousands of people who have no control over their bladders. That means urine leaks out of their bodies uncontrollably. In this woman’s case, a catheter inserted into her urinary tract during childbirth was left there longer than it was medically safe. The result was that the muscle at the neck of the bladder which controls urine voiding became too relaxed from want of work to do, and never got into the mood to work again. Medically, doctors insert a catheter into the bladder to bring out urine when the patient appears unable to do this effectively. This sends the bladder controls on vacation which, as in this woman’s case, became a permanent holiday. When Ronke brought her home and explained this woman’s problem to all of us, we contributed money regularly to help her with lifestyle adjustment. She had to wear sanitary pads to mop the leakage, and these had to be changed every few hours to prevent urine smelling on her body. Hers was a life one would not wish one’s worst enemy.

This condition is medically known as urinary incontinence. Many people suffer from different varieties of it for different reasons. There are men and women who are otherwise healthy but are unable to hold urine in the bladder until they arrive in a toilet and voluntarily let go. It is so embarrassing to some women that they have to carry an extra brief or two in their bags or wear a pad whenever they are outdoor. Men are not so lucky because the pad cannot come to their rescue in this matter.

    Not a disease, but…

People who suffer from urinary incontinence will feel happy somewhat to learn that doctors do not classify this condition as disease. But, even then, it is the sign of a disease! As already stated, there are many possible causes, and that means different types, of urinary incontinence. Basically, this condition is often categorised into four

    • Stress incontinence

    • Urge incontinence

    • Overflow incontinence, and

    • Mixed incontinence

    Stress incontinence

In this type, there may have been damage to muscles of the bladder, or they may have become weakened by one factor or another. Naturally, there are stretch muscles in the bladder. They keep stretching as the bladder is being filled with urine until they reach their elastic limit. That is when we feel the urge to void. The urge is a message the bladder sends to the brain which, in turn, the brain sends to us. We may decide to void immediately, or hold it for some time. Should we decide to hold it, we should remember we are making the stretch muscles overwork, and that this may be putting them under undue pressure which could make them age prematurely. Someday, in old age, we would definitely reap a bountiful harvest of the seeds we had thus sown and possibly forgotten. Sometimes, these muscles may have become so weakened from overwork or lack of proper muscle tone due to poor nutrition, that sneezing or coughing or laughing or a simple task such as lifting a baby may eject urine past the bladder sphinter muscle, the gatekeeper at the neck of the bladder. Sometimes, the stress on the bladder may come from damage to muscles and nerves in the pelvis floor. This may occur during surgery to remove, say the uterus or the prostate gland.

    Urge incontinence

We feel a sudden urge. But, uncontrollably, we let go some urine before we arrive in the toilet. This may be due to damage to nerves which connect the brain to the bladder. This type is, sometimes, also called overactive bladder. The soft muscles of such a bladder contract and relax irreverently in a spasm which ejects urine.

    Overflow incontinence

The causes are still not well known. In this condition, the bladder is often full, and any top up from the kidneys stimulates a corresponding involuntary ejection below to maintain equilibrium. It has been suggested that, thorough fare in the bladder may have been obstructed by a number of events, such as prostate enlargement, infections, and nerve damage/disturbances due to stroke, Parkinson’s disease, anxiety, depression, fibromagalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), among many others.

There are other types of incontinence, such as gestational, which occurs during pregnancy when the womb presses on the bladder, and functional incontinence, developed when cognition diminishes or fails, such as in dementia, strokes and injuries, especially to the spinal column. Edgar Caycee would speak of “Spinal sublisation”, a condition in which nerves from the spinal column which communicate with the urinary system cannot connect effectively.

    Natural treatments

These include improvement of nerve tone, clearance of bladder infections, and avoidance of foods which irritate the bladder such as black pepper and caffeine, and exercise of the pelvic floor muscles. Dr. Arnold H. Kegel gave the world the idea of the pelvic floor excises now named after him…. KEGEL’S EXERCISE. It involves contracting and relaxing pelvic floor muscles for one to two seconds initially, five times a day, and, increasing the tenure. As recommended by Dr. Kegel, I often suggest this exercise, which can be checked on the internet for details, to men who suffer from premature ejaculation caused by nerve Inco-ordination. Dr. Kegel himself reports a wide range of benefits, even for women who have become frigid due to loss of muscle and nerve tone in the pelvic floor and vagina. He says:

“Sexual feeling in the vagina is closely related to muscle tone and can be improved through muscle education and resistance exercise. 75 of 123 women complaining explicitly of sexual deficits achieved organism following the training. Says Mayo Clinic of Kegel Exercise:

“Kegel’s exercise can help you prevent or control urinary incontinence and other pelvic floor problems. Here’s a step by step guide to doing Kegel’s exercise correctly:

    • “Kegel’s exercises strengthen the pelvic floor muscles which support the uteries, bladder, small intestine and rectum. You can do Kegel exercises, also known as pelvic floor muscle training, discreetly just about any time.

    • “Start by understanding what Kegel’s exercise can do for you – then, follow step-by-step instructions for contracting and relaxing your pelvic floor muscles”

Mayo Clinic says many factors can weaken the pelvic floor muscles of women. These include child bearing. It says women need this exercise if they…

    • “leak a few drops of urine while sneezing, laughing or coughing

    • “Have a strong sudden urge to urinate just before losing a large amount of urine

    • “Leak stool (fecal incontinence)

The Mayo Clinic guide lines are

    • “Find the right muscles. To identify your pelvic floor muscles, stop urination in midstream. If you succeed, you’ve found the right muscle.

    • “Perform your technique. Once you’ve identified your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction five seconds, try it four or five times in a row. Work up to keeping the muscles contracted for 10 seconds between contractions.

    • “Maintain your focus. For best results, focus on tightening only your pelvic floor muscle. Be careful not to flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Avoid holding your breath. Instead, breathe freely during the exercises.

    • “Repeat three times a day. Aim for at least three sets of 10 repetitions a day. Worldwide, many doctors give helpful tips on lifestyle adjustments.

In terms of therapy, incontinence caused by muscle and nerve spasms, and by infections is easier to deal with. Some researchers experimenting with magnesium for woman who had spasms of the calf muscles found, to their surprise, that women in the experiment group who had urinary incontinence attributabled to nerve and muscle spasms recovered from the condition as they did with their calf muscles problems. When it comes to infections, a large body of botanical medicines, including Aloe Vera, Crambery, Golden seal root, Echinacea, Apple Cider Vinegar, Grape Seed Extract and the likes of them are helpful. Two Canadian proprietary products which have been showing promise in the Nigerian market are Bell’s Kidney Cleanse and Function Tea and Bell’s Bladder Control for Women.

Doctors often advise that their patients keep a “bladder diary”. That means, if they evacuate the bladder routinely every three hours, they can set for the toilet about 15 Minutes earlier. I noticed that I run a three or four -hour schedule. So, to prevent pressure on my bladder, I do not wait to develop the urge to void before I do, once I notice it is about time. It is suggested, also, that they go easy on fluids. This is a sore point in the Dr F. Batmanghelidj era in which many people gulp bucketfuls, having known of the importance of copious water intake for radiant health. For apart from the danger of dehydration and kidney problems, the body may become acidic. Cutting down on alcohol or abstaining from it is more reasonable, as it is for all diuretic foods and drinks, including grapefruit juice and coffee. Cranberry juice is an exception because, being acidic, it helps to kill off germs in the urinary system to which the bladder belongs. There is a nice point about losing some weight to cut belly fat, as abdominal pressure impacts pressure on the bladder. Fear is the worst enemy of everyone. It is an etheric or astral ladder led down to the world outside the soul. From this world, and through this ladder, those things which we intensively fear do happen to us. Fear is a thought form. When it is reinforced, it becomes more vigorous, it attracts more power through support from similar forms, and cause the manifesting and experiencing of that seed we sowed as fear.

I still long to see Ronke’s friend, to know if she has been able to solve her problem. Before we lost contact, I had introduced her to a plant the Yorubas call PATANMO (r.r.m). This name translates as “close the lap” you know, that’s what Yoruba parents or elders tell girls or young women who don’t sit right, throwing their legs anyhow. This plant called TOUCH ME NOT in English, has the characteristic of recoiling and literally closing up whenever anyone touches it. That was how it came by this name. Research into Yoruba folklore medicinal plants suggests that it is astringent that stops bleeding which is why it may be good for excessive menstruation. If it helps to build nerve sensitivity and energy and nerve damage is the cause unabating urine flow in Ronke’s friend, couldn’t this plant help her? That was, and still is, my reasoning. Perhaps it will work also for everyone beset with urinary inconsistence challenge.

    Farewell, Prof Akin – Adewo.

Last week, Prof. Oluyemi Akin – Adewo sneaked out of this earth. I say “sneaked out” because he served no serious notice. I met him in the 1990s through Folashade Adetutu – Koyi, who then was a natural health reporter at the Guardian newspaper of which I was Director of Publications and Editor – in – Chief. Prof Akin – Adewo was the director – general of the Federal Government owned College of Natural Medicine at No 9, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Dr Omoseindemi an orthodox medical doctor, who is now the Chairman of the Traditional Medicine Board in Lagos State, was a teacher at the college.

Prof Akin – Adewo was sent to the college by the surprising ministry, the Federal Ministry of Sciences and Technology, whose minister, General Momah , approved the college after he was thrilled by the results of some herbs which Mrs. Elizabeth Kafaru, now of blessed memory, gave to some members of his staff to treat certain ailments. At that time the Federal Ministry of Health was distancing itself from herbalists because its leading lights were orthodox doctors.

The college was not the original idea of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. It was in the proposal of the then Nigerian Council of Physician of Natural Medicine led by Dr (Bishop) Magnus Atilade as President, Dr Samuel Fafure as his deputy and Dr Marcus Dawodu as Secretary. They wanted an institution in which they would impart their knowledge to young Nigerians, carry out research and produce Nigerian healing herbal formulas, develop them into proprietary products, which would be sold in Nigeria and overseas. As a re-assurance that government funds would not be spent irreverently, the Council proposed that Federal Ministry of Science and Technology appoint from the civil service a director-general as executive head of the college. The proposal was accepted and Akin-Adewo became the chief executive.

The dream was to become aborted because the Council would later withdraw in body and soul, claiming the civil service had hijacked the project. The Council had the guts to do so because, under the enabling protocol, it would sign and issue certificates to students and any appropriation of this function by another authority within that law would be illegal. Prof Akin – Adewo ably kept the boat sailing, nevertheless, until his retirement when he began to try his hands on other endeavors in Alternative Medicine. But there is no doubt that the crisis stalled advancement of Nigeria’s Traditional Medicine. Dr. Marcus Dawodu set up a school in Ejigbo area of Lagos where he imparted his knowledge and his wife taught aromatherapy he even published a monthly journal. But death soon took him away. Dr Fafure had a beautiful product, PAPITEETH. When one of the reporters of The COMET newspaper suffered from an excruciating root canal problem and had no money for the expensive dental surgery, I told her I had a bottle of Papited which must have ‘expired’ by one year. She tried it. And it resolved the problem. When a rift tore the Council apart, he offered his services to the splinter group which formed the Federal College of Alternative aid Complementary Medicine (FEDCAM) in Abuja with Federal government funding. But the group soon wound up business. Dr Atilade continued to soldier on, but feebly, with FEDCAM – Lagos which, often, was threatened with gross underfunding.

It was given to Otunba Olajuwon Okubena, who makes JOBELYN, to reconcile all the groups, including Prof Akin – Adewo’s. Okubena wanted Nigeria to honour its treaty on traditional medicine with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Africa Union (AU). In year 2000, WHO directed member nations to elevate traditional medicine, through law, funding education and supervision, to the level of orthodox medicine and perhaps beyond it, since about 80 percent of the world’s population relies on it. Okubena financed about three reconciliation meetings, the fruits of which are yet to ripen for harvesting. Meanwhile, in 2013, Nigeria is still a long way from 2010, whereas South Africa and Ghana, among other progressive countries, have honoured these treaties. This is the situation in which Prof Akin – Adewo left us all. I knew his blood sugar often fired dangerously up, and he once complained of floaters in the eyes. Two days before his passage, he telephoned me to say he was in hospital to treat an ulcer and he wanted me to follow up on it after his discharge. I little realised the “Ulcer” was a far more serious condition which had caused ascitis (fluid buildup) and respiratory emergency through which he took his bow. We will all remember him and miss him. I pray that his soul awaken to joyful life wherever he is now.

  • Men diligent in their jobs

    Men diligent in their jobs

EVERTHING about the event was well planned. From the cameramen on the red carpet to the exotic design of the exquisite hall, everything was in shipshape. The setting inside the hall was breath-taking. It met the taste of the calibre of guests.

At the event were finest of the political class and the captains of industry.

A newspaper was honouring two men who have excelled in their fields.

Step in Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers State Governor, who isVanguard Personality of the Year winner; and Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Access Bank Group Managing Director, runner-up.

They were the cynosure of all eyes last Saturday at the Expo Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Amaechi was accompanied by his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr Kayode Fayemi. The night took off on a musical note with a performance by Team Quba.

Shortly after, Aig-Imoukhuede arrived with his wife and children.

Holy Mallam and Gordons, comedians who emceed the event, were in their element, dishing out ribcracking jokes.

Many guests made fashion statements with their resource control hats.

Timi Dakolo set the hall rolling with the recitation of the national anthem. The anthem was on when House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and the principal guest, Gen Ibrahim Babangida, arrived. Gen Babangida chaired the occasion.

Vanguard Publisher, Sir Sam Amuka-Pemu, while delivering the welcome address, extolled Gen Babangida.

According to him, it was just a phone call that got the gap-toothed General to chair the function.

Amuka-Pemu also thanked Tambuwal who he described as Peoples’ Speaker. He beckoned on the General Manager and Editor -in- Chief of Vanguard, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, to make a more formal welcome address on behalf of the company.

In his speech, Babaginda showered encomiums on Amuka-Pemu who he described as “my good friend, in-law and compatriot.”

The former military president said: “Looking back at those good old days like a series of snapshots in an album, with different phases and faces in our journey through life, one cannot but thank God for the successes we have recorded in our various undertakings, I make bold to say that Uncle Sam is that, uncommon Nigerian who understands the nexus between media and power, and the value and virtue of good friendship. I deeply cherish this association.

“Despite the fact that one of my Military Administrators briefly suspended Vanguard in 1990, it did not strain my relationship with Uncle Sam. We have trudged on like two great Nigerians who understand the dynamics of political power and the vanity of human nature.”

    Babangida congratulated Amaechi and Aig-Imoukhuede.

“To me, the two gentlemen represent the normative order of a new generation leadership orientation that is anchored on love for country, service delivery and patriotism. In fact, given their humanity, there is nothing extra-ordinary about their creation but there is something extra-ordinary about their leadership emanations. For example, Governor Amaechi is not just a Governor in whom I am well pleased, but one that has been able to make a bold impression about promise and performance in a Nigerian political space that is grappling with challenges of development and good governance,” he said.

His speech drew a standing ovation.

Afterwards, Dakolo, winner of the maiden edition of Nigerian Idol thrilled the gathering.

Tambuwal presented the runner-up award to Aig-Imoukhuede who came on the stage with his family.

He dedicated the award to his wife.

According to Aig-Imoukhuede, there are only two banks in Nigeria that are older than Vanguard, First Bank and UBA.

“All the great deeds you ascribe to bankers, Uncle Sam has surpassed; for Vanguard to have outlived most of the banks, underlined the vision, capacity and tenacity of the leadership of Vanguard Media Limited,” he said.

Yemi Sax performed for a while before IBB as Babangida is fondly called mounted the podium again to present Personality of the Year award to Governor Amaechi. IBB, Tambuwal, Amaechi, Aig-Imoukhuede and Amuka-Pemu took a group photograph before Governor Amaechi gave his acceptance speech.

Amaechi dressed in the regalia of the Ikwere, people of Rivers State, dedicated the award to the team working with him and the people of Rivers State.

The governor said he felt the absence of his wife, given the fact that Mrs. Aig-Imoukhuede was present.

Amaechi, who came with a strong delegation from Rivers State said he paid little attention to awards in the past because he thought he was doing his job.

Omawumi was later invited to the stage to entertain the gathering.

  • What do men think about you?

What do men think about you?

WHEN a woman projects a low self-esteem, has poor moral standards and serves as drinking well to every fellow she meets, she is generally treated with very little respect.

Unfortunately, we live in a society that does not vilify men as much for being irresponsible as it does women.

The nickname “player” for a man does not carry the same stigma as the word “slut”.This probably stems from centuries of victimizing the female species.

As a result more ladies are under pressure to go the extra mile to appear ‘sexy’ by being as generous as the women they see on television, a vast contrast from what most men want.

David Ochonogor, an Infotech expert gives a male perspective on how the average man rates a woman.

“What girls do not know is that guys talk a lot. If a chick is lazy or does not know how to behave in public, a dude will spill to his boys while hanging out and nothing the girl says will prove him wrong. But if she’s the type who has her head in the right place, everyone will want to roll with her.”

While some are more liberal in separating loose from wayward, others, like Bayo Esho, are only interested in how proportionate the face and waist-line are with other parts of the body.

“It’s not hard to size a babe up. If she looks good, smells nice and takes care of herself, she’s good to go!

“Because if she is fine” he said, “you will be happy every time you see her and you can take her anywhere because she will not have all those inferiority complex issues.”

Airing a slightly different opinion, Obi Uchendu shares, “A woman’s mind is her treasure.

“There are women everywhere like pure-water. If I am feeling funny I can just go outside and pick one as long as I throw enough money around but to find a sensible woman is very hard. That is why men like us are afraid to get married, nobody wants to enter one chance!” he finished.

    Although there are general assumptions on how a woman should comport herself, these are a few more to help keep us on the right track;

    a) Become busy

An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Learn to enjoy reading. I will expand your mind and help you make good desicions.

Master a new skill like tailoring, volunteer at a healthy social club. When you have your hands full with responsibilities, there will be no time for frivolous activities.

    b) Grow some standards

Not everyone is allowed to be your friend. If a man or woman talks or tfully walk away and make sure that person never comes within 10 miles again.

touches you in a suggestive manner, you reserve the right to tactfully walk away and make sure that person never comes within 10 miles again.

If your lady friends at work, school, church or other places live carelessly , carefully break ties with them because your friends are a reflection of you. Friendship is not by force.

    c) Act like a lady

We know a lot of ’21 century’ ministers and evangelists say it is the heart that matters most in the sight of God but the truth is, you will be addressed the way you dressed.

If you are ever insulted by okada- men who whistle at you when you walk by, it may be a sign that you are not properly dressed and it will help if you stop giving them something to whistle at.

Cover your cleavage and close-up the slit at the back of your dress. When you sit down, cross your knees.

    d) Stay in control

In spite of what people say, everyone respects a woman who has enough self-control to abstain from leading a promiscuous lifestyle. Diamonds are rare, so are virgins!

If you have eaten the forbidden fruit, it is never too late to close your legs and buy yourself some dignity.

The people who turn their noses and smirk at you for choosing to be disciplined are not looking out for your best interest .

  • Men in Trendy Wear

    Men in Trendy Wear

THE rate at which people, men in general, adapt to the changes in fashion is amazing. If you have any doubt about this, then consider what has been happening to men’s dresses in recent time. Trendy and out-of-this-world designs are now used as tops on jeans and trousers. There are over a hundred tops in town, but the trend now is the loose turtleneck and hooded cotton tee shirt which is worn on jeans trousers.
