MohBad’s wife interrogated thrice, says Iyabo Ojo

Popular actress, Iyabo Ojo, has claimed Omowunmi Aloba, the wife of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka MohBad, has been interrogated by the Police to further intensify investigation.

The Nation reported that MohBad was pronounced dead on September 12, 2023.

As part of investigations into Mohbad’s death, the Lagos State Police Command arrested several suspects, including the auxiliary nurse that treated him before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, Sam Larry, Naira Marley, and Primeboy, in connection with the case.

Reacting to the calls for Omowunmi’s interrogation, Iyabo Ojo, in an Instagram post on Tuesday noted that Mohbad’s wife has been interrogated three times.

“Mohbad’s wife has been interrogated three times to the best of my knowledge, 2 out of the 3 times was the day you all saw Mohbad’s dad televised by the police in which they addressed the public on Mohbad’s case.

“Later that same day Mohbad’s dad, mum and wife werebsent to Panti for interrogation and to write their statement, another day Mohbad’s wife was interrogated was the 21st of September, which is reason why Tonto Dike and Senator Ishaku Abbo met her absences.”

On the CCTV mounted at Mohbad’s residence, she stated that the camera was at no time connected for usage.

“Please note that the CCTV camera in Mohbad’s house was never fixed or connected, it has no BVR nor Hard Disk,” she added.

  • Unveiling deadly side of Ceftriaxone: Shocking truth behind Mohbad’s tragic end

Unveiling deadly side of Ceftriaxone: Shocking truth behind Mohbad’s tragic end

The loss of Mohbad should serve as a wake-up call for Nigeria. It’s time for the government, healthcare authorities, and citizens to come together and rigorously address the crisis of self-medication and quack healthcare.

In the wake of the untimely demise of the beloved Nigerian musician Mohbad, shocking revelations about the medication used in his treatment have come to light. The Nation’s in-depth investigation unveils the perilous side of Ceftriaxone injection, a medication that – like a double-edged sword – cures ailments but sometimes endangers life, even in the hands of experienced medical personnel. It is a component of the late musician’s medical treatment served under the hand of someone said to be an auxiliary nurse not qualified for such medical responsibilities.

Indeed Ceftriaxone has been responsible for severe and life-threatening adverse reactions as well as deaths in several countries over the past two decades, as findings by The Nation have shown.

Preliminary reports from Lagos Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa’s ongoing inquiry into Mohbad’s death suggest that his friend, Ayobami Sadiq (alias Spending), sought medical assistance from Ms. Feyisayo Ogedengbe. She administered a cocktail of treatments, including Ceftriaxone injection. The consequences were dire. As the Ceftriaxone coursed through Mohbad’s veins, he began to vomit, and ominous goose bumps rippled across his face and body. Reports indicate that Feyi is a well-behaved lady from a humble background, but neither past innocence nor ignorance easily stands up to serious charges in a court of law.

Ceftriaxone, according to www.webmd.com, “is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.”

Yet in the hands of even a medical expert, the medication begs for extreme care in its application.

The shocking revelation does not end there. A 7-page report from the Registration & Regulatory Affairs (R&R) Directorate of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) explicitly underscores the need for strict adherence to guidelines governing the use of antibacterial agents.

This alarming revelation gains further credence when one looks beyond our borders. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned specific variants of Ceftriaxone in animal treatment due to concerns about antimicrobial resistance. Similar fears are echoed in several studies from the United States’ National Center for Biotechnology Information, which stress that the widespread misuse of Ceftriaxone is a grave issue.

Checks indicate that on 6 January 2012, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had emulated Canadian health authorities by banning the use of certain variants of Ceftriaxone in treating animals and chickens, citing ‘declines in the prevalence of cephalosporin-resistant Salmonella Heidelberg isolates in chicken meat and in humans’.

Several studies and drug reviews presented online by the United States’ National Center for Biotechnology Information which advances science and health by providing access to biomedical and genomic information reflect longstanding deep concerns largely caused by the easy mishandling of Ceftriaxone.

One such study, “Evaluation of the Clinical Use of Ceftriaxone among In-Patients in Selected Health Facilities in Uganda,” exposes the rampant misuse of Ceftriaxone, exacerbated by its excessive clinical utilisation. The consequences are stark – inappropriate use of antibiotics, including Ceftriaxone, accelerates the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, increases treatment costs, hampers productivity, inflicts unnecessary side effects, and can ultimately result in fatalities.

While Ceftriaxone boasts efficacy against certain respiratory tract infections and disease-causing bacteria, its dark side is equally significant. Among others, it can inflict kidney injury by binding with calcium ions and forming insoluble Ceftriaxone-calcium salts in the urinary tract.

The Ugandan review published on June 25, 2021, found that Ceftriaxone has a high propensity for misuse because of its high rate of utilisation.

“In this study, we aimed at assessing the appropriateness of the clinical utilisation of ceftriaxone in nine health facilities in Uganda; using the World Health Organisation (WHO) Drug Use Evaluation indicators, we reviewed a systematic sample of 885 patients’ treatment records selected over a three (3)-month period.

“Ceftriaxone, like most cephalosporins, has a high prevalence of inappropriate prescriptions: Ceftriaxone has a high propensity for misuse because it is utilised in high quantities clinically and is prescribed in an uncontrolled manner in many countries including Uganda.

“Inappropriate use of antibiotics such as ceftriaxone accelerates the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, increases costs of treatment, affects productivity, and exposes patients to unnecessary side effects, and can also result in death,” it stated.

Acknowledged effectiveness of Ceftriaxone includes its ability to kill some important causative organisms of respiratory tract infections, Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Klebsiella pneumonia and some strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the bug that causes dangerous hospital infections.

However, another review notes that ceftriaxone can be hard on kidneys to the extent of causing kidney injury, as ‘it can bind with calcium ions, producing a poorly soluble ceftriaxone–calcium salt that forms precipitates in the urinary tract, also known as urolithiasis  although its incidence is relatively rare, ceftriaxone-induced urolithiasis could lead to severe complications, such as acute kidney injury (AKI),” .

Mayo Clinic, a globally acknowledged United States medical institution known for helping in the resolution of complex medical challenges made specific mention of Ceftriaxone injection as one of those medications whose unintended consequences may culminate into adverse side effects. It listed the more common possible side effects to include black, tarry stools, chest pain, chills, cough, fever, painful or difficult urination, shortness of breath, sore throat, swollen glands, unusual bleeding or bruising and unusual tiredness or weakness.

Less common ones among its side effects include diarrhea, abdominal or stomach cramps, back, leg, or stomach pains, bleeding gums, bloating, blood in the urine or stools, bloody nose, changes in skin color, clay-coloured stools, convulsions, cough or hoarseness, dark urine, difficulty with breathing, difficulty with swallowing, dizziness, fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse, general body swelling, headache, hives, increased sweating, increased thirst, inflammation of the joints, itching, loss of appetite, muscle aches, nausea or vomiting, puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, shortness of breath, swelling of the foot or leg, tightness in the chest, troubled breathing with exertion, unpleasant breath odour, unusual weight loss, vomiting of blood, watery or bloody diarrhea, coughing up blood, decrease in the amount of urine, increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding, nosebleeds, paralysis, prolonged bleeding from cuts, red irritated eyes, restlessness and having trouble sitting still.

While acknowledging that some of these side effects may just fade away as one’s body adjusts to the medicine, some rare and bothersome adverse effects may linger still. These may include acid or sour stomach, belching, bloating, change in taste, dizziness, headache, heartburn, indigestion, itching of the vagina or genital area, pain during sexual intercourse, stomach discomfort or pain, thick, white vaginal discharge with no odour or with a mild odour, redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue and few others.

Furthermore, a report from as early as August 2012 titled: “Adverse events induced by ceftriaxone: a 10-year review of reported cases to Iranian Pharmacovigilance Centre” underscores the critical need for caution and expert oversight when dealing with this medication. It reveals that Ceftriaxone was responsible for the highest number of deaths in their database, with a significant portion categorised as serious adverse reactions.

As the music world mourns the loss of Mohbad, these findings cast a troubling spotlight on the medication used in his treatment. Ceftriaxone, though effective against certain infections, carries a formidable risk when misused. It is a stark reminder that the world of medicine is complex and ever-evolving, and that understanding the nuances of pharmaceuticals is crucial for safeguarding lives.

In conclusion, the tragic loss of Mohbad sheds light on the urgent need for healthcare reform in Nigeria. We must prioritise improved healthcare access, making it more affordable and available to all Nigerians, while also launching nationwide public awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of self-medication and the risks posed by unqualified medical practitioners. It is imperative for the government to tighten regulations and vigorously enforce them to eliminate quackery, ensuring citizens receive quality care. Moreover, individuals must remain vigilant and demand proof of qualifications from healthcare providers to safeguard our collective health and safety.

Mohbad’s untimely passing serves as a poignant reminder that no one is exempted from the perils of self-medication and unqualified healthcare, motivating us to work together to reshape Nigeria’s healthcare landscape and prevent future avoidable tragedies. In Mohbad’s honour, let us unite against self-medication, quackery, and substandard healthcare to protect the well-being of our loved ones and the future of our nation.

In the wake of this revelation, the nation must collectively demand more transparency, rigorous guidelines, and comprehensive education on the use of antibacterial agents. Only then can we ensure that no more lives are lost to the shadowy side of Ceftriaxone.

Lagos coroner summons Naira Marley, Prime Boy, Sam Larry over Mohbad’s death

    – Autopsy report not ready

A Lagos coroner court sitting in Ikorodu has summoned music stars, Abdulazeez Fashola a.k.a. Naira Marley, Owodunni Eletu a.k.a. Sam Larry and Owodunni Ibrahim a.k.a. Primeboy over the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba a.k.a. Mohbad.

The Coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, yesterday summoned the music stars to appear before it on October 25 in the ongoing inquest to unravel the cause of death of Mohbad and those culpable in the incident.

The police also informed the coroner that autopsy was yet to be completed to determine the actual cause of Mohbad’s death.

The Coroner instructed the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti to ensure the presence of the music stars at the next adjourn date of October 25.

The Coroner issued the order after taking the submissions of interested parties in the matter.

Representing the interested parties in the inquest are Mrs Funmi Falana for Mohbad’s family, Akin George leading other counsels for the state; David Nawoola leading the legal team for TNK Music Worldwide; Abiodun Kolawole for African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) while Mrs O.S. Anyalewechi and C.K. Ezengwa represented NBA Ikorodu.

During preliminary hearing, the Investigation Police Officers (IPO) ASP Oderinde-Gafar Ajibola, and Mohammed Yusuf from State CID, Panti, Yaba informed the coroner that the autopsy was not ready and that investigation was ongoing in the matter.

Giving a preliminary account of the police investigation on the cause of Mohbad’s death, they informed the coroner that there is no link between Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the nurse that administered an injection on Mohbad, and two other suspects, Naira Marley and Sam Larry.

They said investigation also revealed that Naira Marley and Sam Larry were not in the country on the day Mohbad died, stressing that this was confirmed with immigration authorities.

They said following the death of Mohbad, his father was invited and he told them that his son was administered with an injection that killed him.

ASP Yusuf said further investigation revealed that after a gig held September 10, in Ikorodu, an altercation occurred with Primeboy when Mohbad was about leaving the venue, having finished his show.

He said Mohbad at that time was with his wife, Personal Assistant and driver.

He said as Mohbad made to punch Primeboy, he dodged, and his punch hit the glass of a jeep, and that the deceased was injured.

He said investigation revealed that the wound festered because it was not taken care of as a result of which the nurse who administered anti-tetanus injection was invited.

The IPO said investigation revealed that there had been several instances of bullying of the deceased in the past but that that was not the cause of his death.

Both ASP Yusuf and ASP Ajibola said there was no trace of self medication on Mohbad prior to the injection administered on him by the nurse.

They also informed the court that investigation was still ongoing in the matter.

Lead counsel to the state, Akin George, expressed his reservation against the police for not forwarding the preliminary report of their investigation to the DPP.

George said the report of the autopsy was very important in the matter, particularly to many other interested respondents, including counsel to the family, Mrs Falana, wife of the deceased, his father, among others.

The Coroner, Magistrate Sotobi, agreed with the submission of the state and urged the police investigators to fasten their actions.

She said there was need “for all respondents to know how, when, why, what and who” killed the deceased.

She said this has become important so that the body of Mohbad could be given a befitting burial.

She tasked them all to give their maximum cooperation so as to achieve speedy justice in the matter and ensure Mohbad’s remains are finally laid to rest.

She adjourned further hearing till Wednesday, October 25.

  • Tomorrow will always come

    Tomorrow will always come

In the last few weeks, one matter has dominated the attention of Nigerians home and abroad. The matter I refer to is not the fumbling naira; it is not the all-time high petrol price; and it is not the battle over the Office of President. The matter is the sudden death of music star Mohbad, which has seen Nigerians in Houston, Lagos, Abeokuta and many other cities holding rallies. The social media platforms have been on fire. Protests happen on these platforms every minute with videos, audios and printed matters seeking the truth about Mohbad’s death.

Touts, academics, pastors, journalists, doctors, businessmen and women, artistes and more have one thing or the other to say about his death. His death is a topic that has deviated into talks about DNA, drug abuse, alcoholism and more.

His fame quadrupled, topping charts home and abroad, with the download of his songs on platforms such as Apple Music hitting all-time high. His glory boomed after his exit. After his end, a lot is happening. His end is the beginning of so many things.

In his last moments on earth, Mohbad left footprints suggesting his life was at risk. Lyrics of his songs pointed to a troubled life, a life being lived on the edge, a life capable of snapping, like a tiny rope, any moment.

Two names have been on the lips of Nigerians over his death: Naira Marley and Sam Larry. Naira Marley is a music star who also runs a record label, which at some point signed a deal with Mohbad. The deal went sour and efforts by Mohbad to free himself were resisted. He was beaten, he was slapped, he was molested. Many bad things were done to him. The attacks on him had not ceased by the time he died, and so Naira Marley became the first name that came to the mouths of Nigerians when Mohbad suddenly died. Very few bothered to find out how he died. Clearly he was not shot, he was not stabbed, and neither was he punched to death by Naira Marley or Sam Larry.

The police have since filled the gaps. This is the story as told by the police: He sustained an injury while trying to punch a friend; he instead hit his hand on a hard stuff. He refused to go to the hospital. A nurse gave him injections. And he died.

Naira Marley and others are still being detained by the police and are facing some form of trial, not for killing Mohbad, but for the assaults on him.

The music industry has to learn a lesson from this incident. Record owners cheat talents. Talents eager for stardom do not scrutinise deals. They sign blindly and when the money starts coming, trouble starts. They all act as though tomorrow will never come, but it always does and when it does, clarity sets in and wahala comes.

It is instructive that SceneOne Entertainment’s mini-series titled ‘She Must Be Obeyed’ debuted on Amazon Prime in the middle of this brouhaha. The five-part mini-series delves into the intriguing world of stardom and secrets.

In the beginning, we meet Siyanbola Adewale, a music star who is in contention with another female musician for the Artiste of the Year, a crown the male singers had hitherto won.

Siyanbola, whose stage name is She, sees herself as the one that must be obeyed. She penetrates the judging panel and believes with her bribe, she will triumph. Her efforts, however, fail as Tito gets the crown. She becomes bitter but pretends to be happy for her. She reaches into her bag of mischief and her faceless blog, Trolls Kingdom, comes in handy in spreading rumours about Tito’s victory. She organises viral and physical protests to fault Tito’s victory but pleads for the respect of the decision of the judges in public.

The loss of the award exposes the beast in Siyanbola and she engages in back-biting and betrayal while maintaining a perfect persona and a near perfect media presence. Siyanbola does anything to trend, including deliberately provoking a rival to slap her and thus receive bad press.

Tito refuses to be broken by the rumours around her emergence as Artiste of the Year, thus compounding Siyanbola’s desperation. She digs more into her bags of evil and soon Tito is enmeshed in a sex scandal, and is almost broken before Ex-cite, another female artiste, convinces her to make music out of the scandal and spins it in her favour.

Aside Siyanbola, it also provides a window into the lives of two other successful music stars, Ex-cite and Tito. Music star Waje plays Ex-cite and BBNaija star Veeiye is Tito.

We see the cut-throat routines they engage in to outshine one another and protect their top slots. Aside the main plot, there is a subplot of a family whose father is dead, the mother a drunk, the first son is useless, the daughter is the breadwinner, and the last born is almost losing his university admission because of his mother’s recklessness.

There is a very intriguing link between the breadwinner of this family and Siyanbola who runs from music collaboration with local artiste and also avoids doing acapela version of her songs. She also doesn’t go to the studio with any member of her team, and there are outings she drives herself to. The reason behind these is heart-rending and a source of tears to the breadwinner.

We see high drama, unyielding ambition, obsession, avarice, hubris, and scheming.

The series also deals with the issue of contracts in the entertainment industry where talents are exploited and the role talents’ desperation plays in their enslavement.

It also shows how musicians get scammed because of their desperation for international collaboration and other things.

There is also a good dose of comedy, good dialogue and sterling cinematography.

This riveting series features Funke Akindele, Lateef Adedimeji, Nancy Isime, Akah Anani, Patience Ozokwo, Mike Ezuronye, and Rachael Okonkwo, among others.

What is portrayed in the series is a fraction of the nonsense going on in the industry. I hope the Naira Marleys in the industry will learn one or two lessons after this and behave better. Many a youth see Naira Marley as their role model. He hasn’t been the kind of model I will recommend to any youth. Will this end the boss-servant relationship between artistes and their signees? Time will tell.

My final take: Tomorrow will always come. And when it does, the results of our acts of yesterday and today are released. Some will fail and some will pass. Some will have the opportunity to resit and get new results, and some will see that there is no room for redemption.

MohBad: My daughter is a professional nurse, Mother cries out

Mother to the nurse who treated late MohBad has debunked circulating rumour that her daughter, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, killed the late singer.

She described her daughter as innocent while dispelling the notion that she is an unqualified or an auxiliary nurse.

She emphatically stated that her daughter is a professional nurse who received her education in nursing at a private hospital in Ogun and completed a one-year apprenticeship under her employer.

She stressed that her daughter has never committed any professional wrongdoing or posed a life-threatening risk in her career.

Feyisayo’s mother stressed that her daughter had no prior contact or interactions with the late singer.

She further explained that it was MohBad’s associate, known as “Spending,” who got in touch with her daughter on that fateful day to address Mohbad’s hand injury.

According to her account, Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi’s younger brother, personal assistant, and friend “Spending” were all present to supervise the injection administered to the late musician.

The elderly widow firmly asserted that her daughter’s injection could not have been the cause of Mohbad’s death, saying she is a proficient professional in her field and has never made an error in her practice.

Mrs. Ogendegbe then issued an appeal to Nigerians for assistance, expressing  outrage that her daughter has been implicated as a primary suspect in a murder case in which she is entirely innocent.

She disclosed that she had accompanied her daughter to the police station for the investigation into Mohbad’s death, with the assurance that her daughter would be released following an autopsy.

However, she acknowledged that the autopsy was taking longer than expected and her daughter has been in custody for 23 days.

She said: “Feyisayo Ogedengbe is my first child. She learnt nursing for three years in a private hospital and she worked for a  year with her boss without any issue. She isn’t troublesome at all.

“She doesn’t know Mohbad, It was Spending that called Feyisayo to treat Mohbad, she said his wife, friend and his sibling were there when he was being treated. The injections she gave Mohbad couldn’t have killed him. Feyisayo has never met mohbad before it was spending that referred him to her.”

Music executive Abisoye Obayan has claimed that the contract late rapper, Mohbad signed with his former record label, Marlian Music, was fair.

After his controversial death on September 12, many condemned the treatment meted on MohBad by Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley and his associates after he left the record label in 2022.

Speaking in a recent interview with Arise TV, Abisoye claimed that he was privileged to access the contract the late rapper signed, insisting it was “fair”.

He said it was a joint deal between the record label and the late artist but pointed out things didn’t go as MohBad expected.

Abisoye said: “By right, I might not be able to speak about Mohbad’s contract with Marlian Music like that here. But because I’ve seen it before, I would say it was a fair one.

“In his defence, me and him always talk about that contract. That contract was a joint venture. It means he comes to the table as whoever he is and the label comes to the table and they put two together and they make something which is a beautiful arrangement but somehow it didn’t just go the way he thought it would go. And like I said, I won’t be able to speak more on that.”

MohBad lived in fear till last breath – Dad

Father of singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka MohBad has spoken on the circumstances that surrounded the death of his son.

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, he recounted everything that happened on the day of his son’s death.

Mr. Aloba said he attempted to intervene on behalf of his son to be treated right by Naira Marley.

He further described an incident where Naira Marley was seen eating with his son, Mohbad, which touched him deeply.

However, his son had confided in him that Naira Marley had an evil side.

The grieving father also revealed that his son had been subjected to physical abuse multiple times.

He disclosed that the first time Mohbad was beaten, he reported it to the police but no action was taken.

This pattern of fear continued with further incidents of violence, including one during a video shoot with Zlatan.

Desperate for justice, Mohbad’s father, who is a pastor, expressed inability to take traditional measures due to his religious beliefs.

“My son d!ed at about 3pm, nobody called me. By the time I got to his house, it was 10pm and I saw a lot of crowd. We were denied a police report at the station, We tried to take him to the mortuary but there was no space, I couldn’t be watching him in the house. I had to bury him. Nigerians should forgive me if I offended them. Nobody loves him like me. I have never seen Samlarry before in my life.

“The first day I went to Naira Marley’s house, Mohbad was eating and Naira picked a spoon and was eating with him. This really touched me that he loved him so much but my son told me Naira was evil. When I went to Naira’s room to beg him to forgive my son whatever he might have done, I didn’t know he was recording me.

“The first time Sam Larry ever beat him, he told me not to say anything, he reported at the police station but nothing was done. Since then he had always been living with fear.

“He was beaten again during his video shoot with Zlatan. I need justice for him. As a Pastor, I can’t fight this traditionally because of my religion. If they want to do the DNA test, let them do it,” he said.

    Mohbad: We are all victims

    • By Omotayo Ishola

Who killed or murdered Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba a.k.a Mohbad in his prime and with his precocious manifest talents?

The death of this young man at 27 diminishes me not because I am involved (in the apology to John Donne’s poems popularised by Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in his epic: “because i am involved”) but because Mohbad shouldn’t have died now!

Mohbad became an instant hit at his demise while he was barely appreciated in his life as a rapper maestro. That is the way of the legends of history; great stars including the religious avatar were hardly celebrated in their lifetimes. Christianity, Islam, Confuciusism, Taoism, Buddhism grew with wider appeal to nations and kingdom after the life of the founders.

While awaiting the jury on the coroner inquest on the circumstances of the death of this promising young star, the almost consensus of opinion is that Mohbad was murdered with several conspiracy theories flying around!

We may never know without prejudice to the verdict of the jury! Have we known the murderers of late Alfred Rewane whose 38 years of his murder is only remembered by his immediate family, not the nation he died for, not the so-called progressive not even from NADECO, his immediate constituency? Alfred Rewanni from Warri, Delta state lived and laid all his famous resources in the fight for social justice, particularly good governance that will cater for the lot of poor masses that had been short-changed by parasitic ruling cast both civilian and military. Have we unearthed the murderers of the late Cicero of Esa Oke (apology to Yemi Ogunbiyi) Chief James Ajibola Ige who died 21 years ago?

As a sitting federal attorney general and minister of justice Ige was murdered in his house on December 24, 2003 by unknown assassins yet to be unveiled. A brilliant orator and publicist, a linguist and one of the start governors of the second republic, 21 years after the death of Jagunmolu of Esa-oke, nothing is heard about justice to the murderers, to the society and to the family of the late deceased federal attorney general. With his death something was murdered about Nigeria.

How about Kudirat Abiola – the amazon accidental politician, the wife of the late winner of June 12, 1993 Nigeria presidential election? Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the husband was mysteriously murdered in detention in his legitimate desire to actualise his popular mandate given by about 14 million Nigerians across our diversities in religion, ethnicity and state distributions, roundly beating his opponent in his home state of Kano, against the run of play?

With the murder of Abiola in gaol, Nigeria murdered true transparent and open electoral justice! The beautiful wife, Kudirat was murdered while rallying support to revalidate the mandate in daylight at Ikeja, Lagos. Kudirat Radio was birthed abroad to immortalize and propagate the ideals for which the husband and wife died for. The radio had since been extinct. Why not replicate the same at home especially by the prime beneficiaries of the present democratic harvest since 1999?

There is Mohbad on each one all of us; Nigerians with little memory, and outlandish persecution of stars in politics, in academics, in arts, music and even ecclesiastical realm!

How many unresolved murder issues have remained unresolved since their occurrences? What of the murder of Alhaji Suliat Adedeji in Ibadan during the Abacha Reich? And Funsho Williams in Lagos Street? There has been several unresolved murder cases in a country that parades motley crowd of law enforcement agencies such as the police, the D.S.S, the military, the NDLEA, Civil Defence Corps?

One wonders why there has not been the necessary synergy between our police D.S.S and other crime busters in our land to speedily unravel mysterious murder and assassinations in Nigeria! In other climes, it may take time and precious resources; no murderer ever got unrecovered with justice meted out to the perpetrator at the end. The murderer of Abraham Lincoln was given the desired justice. So was the killer of J.F Kennedy discovered after some years with necessary punitive measures? Even more worrisome is our attitude to one another.

In the neighbourhood policing, every other person knows the various activities of people surrounding the community but rather than channel the useful information to necessary agencies, they keep mute back-biting and back-sliding allowing the ripples of crime commission to ravage everyone until the turn of the other.

For example, on October 5, last year Mohbad was said to have raised an alarm to the effect that he was physically assaulted by the goons of Marlian records. His wife was allegedly equally assaulted by the same agency. One wonders with this vintage information in the public domain why the preliminary measure had not been taken timeously by our law enforcement agencies to protect his life. Is it because he is not a high profile politician with police orderlies and other security outposts to his back and call?

Were Mohbad as radical as the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, perhaps he would have possibly saved his own life. Who will cry for the poor in this country? Who will weep for the child that lacks attention and social justice? The legendary social crusader Dr.Tai Solarin who might possibly take it upon himself to take the mock-coffin of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Alaba a.k.a Mohbad and dump it before the police headquarters is no longer alive! The crusading attorney, Gani Fawehinmi who would have taken to private prosecution of the prime suspect in Mohbad tragedy and open up further public outrage and consciousness in the needless murder of a promising music star is buried in his grave. The Afro-beat music genius, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who could have engineered group solidarity for justice on Mohbad saga has since been in the other side of the divide peacefully resting after Nigerian trauma. The likes Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, Kanmi Ishola Osobu, Alao Aka-Bashorun, Comrade Ola Oni, Fredrick Fasheun and the likes are no longer with us.

Wole Soyinka, the legendary laureate has come of age and has paid more than his fair due on Nigeria stage at every critical stage. He deserves some respite from Nigeria for unbundled and unbridled injustice! Some raise a case of immorality on Mohbad; there is the worst in the best of us and vice-versa.

Yet, screening the concourse of empathy and commiseration over the passage of Mohbad, it is safe to conclude that he is larger than death, larger than his murderer(s). His legend truly lives on! He has become in death a parallel with living music celebrities like Davido, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Olamide of today and the immortal music avatar like Fela and Bob Marley!

From the United States of America, a billboard carried captivating and eulogising epitaph “Mohbad will be remembered forever, legends are never forgotten RIP”.

As Nigerians, we await with baited breathe the final verdict of coroner inquest. With the death of Mohbad, something dies in all of us as Nigerians.

Group knocks Lagos CP over statement on MohBad death

A Human Rights and Charity Organization, “Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative” (SPANCI) on Monday, October 9, said the it was not satisfied with the press release of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, over the death of hip-hop star, Ilerioluwa Aloba a.k.a. Mohbad without the autopsy results.

SPANCI said this could raise suspicion on the case which has now become a global issue, saying not only Nigerians are waiting for the outcome of the case but also international communities.

A statement by SPANCI president, Bello Ezekiel, stated that the Lagos CP would have waited for the autopsy results since he got a court order to detain the suspects for 21 days within which the autopsy results would have been released.

According to Ezekiel, the action of the Police boss has called for questions which his organisation demand answers from the police.

He said: “Is Lagos CP under any pressure or instructions to do so and from who is such order? why did Lagos CP not wait for autopsy results before making a press statement? is the Statement not decisive, diversionary and concluding about the cause of mohbad’s death? What is now the essence of autopsy results when police already told us how mohbad died? Does investigative power of police represent the decision of the court?”

“Did police investigate the allegation of primeboy on the wife based on principle of fair hearing and justice? The hospital said he was brought in dead what of the man who claimed in a viral video that he saw mohbad walked in to the hospital by himself and even snapped with him but was shocked at the later occurrence? I think there are still needed investigation if justice will be done.”

“We are of the opinion that people are losing hope and already doubting if justice can still be done because of the influence of the suspects and this act of prehemption can lead to pervertion, prevention, obstruction and defeat of cause of justice.”

He however commended the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for his credibility and professionalism towards investigating mysteries relating to mohbad’s death.
