Moses: I’ll play anywhere for Eagles

Chelsea of England midfielder Victor Moses has promised to play in any position the Super Eagles’ coaches deploy him tomorrow in the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo.

Moses, who was not available for the Eagles in Match Day One of the World Cup qualifier in Ndola against Zambia, has featured prominently for his Chelsea FC side in the right full back position, and has garnered praise for his seamless adjustment to the role.

The former Wigan Athletic Midfielder told SportingLife that what is paramount to him is for the Eagles to beat Algeria and that he would be willing to play anywhere to do so.

He said he was truly injured against Leicester City in an EPL tie which forced his absence from the Chipolopolo of Zambia tie and that Nigerians would not be fair to doubt his loyalty for the Eagles.

He said he feels strong vibes and emotion whenever he is called to represent his fatherland.

Moses pointed out that he decided to call the Eagles medical team and the head coach, Gernot Rohr when he noticed he was not 100 per cent fit for the encounter and that he has come now to give more than 100 per cent against the Desert Foxes.

Antonio Conte’s side have not conceded a goal in the English top-flight since they were humiliated 3-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates on September 24, and Moses has been instrumental to the shutouts posted by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

“Fantastic win today! Great team performance and another clean sheet too #CFC, ”Victor Moses remarked on Twitter last night.

Moses: Mourinho never spoke to me

Victor Moses is enjoying life under Antonio Conte at Chelsea, having had a strained relationship with former manager Jose Mourinho.

The former Wigan Athletic winger moved to Stamford Bridge in 2012, but has failed to hold down a first-team place, going out on loan on three occasions.

However, he has earned Conte’s trust in the Italian’s first few months in London and is playing regular football, albeit as a wing-back.

“I’m delighted to be back,” Moses told ESPN FC. “I thought I did well in my first season here, but due to circumstances – a manager [Rafa Benitez] going, a manager [Mourinho] coming in – I wasn’t really given a chance.

“[Mourinho] never spoke to me. I thought in my head, ‘He’s got his own players already. I think we chatted a couple of times on the phone – he asked if I was alright at Liverpool [where Moses was on loan], but that was it.

Moses scores in Chelsea’s rout of Leicester

VICTOR Moses scored as Chelsea beat champions Leicester City 3-0 in the English Premier League yesterday.
Moses, who was starting his second Premier League game in as many matches for Chelsea, scored the Blues’ third in the comprehensive win at Stamford Bridge.
The Nigerian winger swept home Nathaniel Chalobah’s cheeky assist in the 80th minute to seal the win for Chelsea, which temporarily lifts them up to fifth on the league standings with 16 points from eight matches.
He was substituted moments later with the Chelsea fans giving him a standing ovation, for the second game running while Chelsea’s other goal scorers were Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.
Costa volleyed home his seventh league goal of the season after slack Leicester marking at a corner, and Hazard made Chelsea’s first-half dominance count at Stamford Bridge with their second on 33 minutes.
The visitors, who were second best in the first half, improved after the break and nearly got back into the match when David Luiz turned a Marc Albrighton cross onto his own post.
But Moses made the game safe for Chelsea in the 80th minute, latching onto Nathaniel Chalobah’s back-heel and tucking past Kasper Schmeichel. Moses has now scored twice in the league for the London club this season.

    Allnigeriasoccer.com
    can confirm that Chelsea
winger Victor Moses is owed 15,000 pounds (approximately N8.7 million) by the Nigeria Football Federation, being unreimbursed traveling expenses incurred for honoring national team invitations.

The former England U21 international has not written off those expenses, and there is no positive feedback from the federation on when he will be paid.

Chelsea have confirmed that their new wing-back suffered an injury against Hull City just before the international break, but it is believed that he would have traveled to Abuja nonetheless for national team medics to assess his injury if he was sure of getting a refund.

Few days before the invited foreign based professionals were supposed to start arriving in Abuja, the Nigerian Federation contacted them to buy their own flight tickets.

Moses, 25, is in London receiving treatment ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Leicester City next weekend.

  • Conte more caring than Mourinho – Moses

Conte more caring than Mourinho – Moses

Chelsea winger, Victor Moses has once again fired shots at former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who is now at Manchester United by labeling the current handler of the team, Antonio Conte who has given him the chance to flourish at Stamford Bridge the unique one.

Moses was farmed out on loan by Mourinho in the  three seasons the Manchester United boss spent at Chelsea. Moses reckons Conte has a way of working with players on a one on one basis unlike his former coach.

Many will see his amazing backing for Chelsea boss Conte as a dig at Mourinho, who fell out big time with Blues stars last season before being axed.

Moses said: “He’s very different because he came to the club and showed us it’s about more than football. He cares about the players individually.

“The manager never discussed it with me, so I knew I was going to stay and play here this season.

“He just said to me, ‘You know what, you are a good player and I just want you to keep on enjoying your football.

“He wants to know what we are eating and he always wants us in the gym to prevent us from getting injured.

“He’s a very unique and  different manager from the other managers because he’s passionate and loves the game as well.

“When he talks about the game with you, he knows what to expect, his awareness, knowledge of the modern game and experience make him completely different and unique — in a nice way.”

If you see what happened last season, the players obviously don’t want that to happen this season.

“With the manager as well, it’s a different attitude and mentality. You can call it the desire not to fail, as he is helping us to make sure we don’t replicate what happened last season.

“The atmosphere is buzzing because we cannot let our fans, the club, manager and also ourselves down.

“The manager is there to help us and we all want to work hard for him, stay in top shape and approach the games with the hunger and desire it deserves.”

  • Conte wants Moses at Chelsea

    Conte wants Moses at Chelsea

New Manager of Chelsea Antonio Conte has from all indications suggested that Nigerian forward Victor Moses will finally get his chance at Stamford Bridge next season.

The Nigerian is back at Stamford Bridge, after straight loan deals away from the club and has taken their pre season games by storm with performances which have earned him praise from the Italian manager.

In their last game against AC Milan, Moses was handed another start by Conte and the 25-year-old didn’t disappoint the manager as he was his usual industrious self untill he was replaced in the second half.

After the game Conte told newsmen, that he has now known the players, he will allow to leave the club base on the AC Milan tie, although they still have one more game before they round up their pre-season matches.

“I think this match told me a lot about the players who we will keep, and who can go on loan or we can sell,” the Italian said.

“Today, it was important because I have a clearer idea than before. Now we go back to London. It’s important for me and for the club to talk and take decisions about all the players.

“In pre-season we worked with 30 players – four goalkeepers and 26 players. There is one game remaining against Werder Bremen and then we must take the decision. We hope to take the best decision for the club and the players, too.”

PERMANENT DEAL: West Ham reject Moses

    • Emenike shown exit door too

Victor Moses will not be handed a permanent deal at West Ham after his season-long loan deal with West Ham expires this summer.

Sky Sports sources suggest that the Hammers are by no means keen to keep any of the trio of Moses, Alex Song or Emmanuel Emenike who will all run out of deals at Upton Park by the end of the season.

Despite flashes of brilliance in the Chelsea pre-season games, erstwhile Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho opted to send out Moses on a season-long loan move to West Ham.

The Nigeria international enjoyed a productive start to life at the Boleyn Ground, starting 11 matches and scoring in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

A hamstring injury in the goalless draw with Manchester United in December saw Moses miss six weeks of the season and he has not started in the Premier League since.

He was on the bench all through the weekend as the Hammers played a disappointing 2-2 draw with his former club, Crystal Palace.

With West Ham not interested in keeping him on,  Moses will hope that the newly named Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte will see him useful in his Blues’ revival plans.

On his part, Emenike who has scored two goals in nine appearances – both goals coming in the 5-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over Blackburn Rovers will have hope some luck will come his way before the season ends as reports suggest that he is not even wanted at his parent coach Fenerbahce.

    Moses joins West Ham training

West Ham United manager, Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Cheikhou Kouyate, Victor Moses and Enner Valencia returned to training on Friday.

Valencia (Ecuador), Moses (Nigeria) and Kouyate (Mali) were on national duty during the FIFA international break and they only resumed training with their English Premier League (EPL) side a day before a league game.

The Croatian coach explained that he was not pleased with having to start their preparations for their Saturday EPL home fixture against Crystal Palace without the trio.

“I’m not happy because we will not be all on the pitch, some of the guys are coming back tomorrow [Friday], this game on Saturday is worrying,” Bilic said.

“Some players are coming back tomorrow [today] – Cheikhou Kouyate, Victor Moses and Enner Valencia had a long trip, (Dimitri) Payet is back from France,” he continued.

“It is not ideal but we will have to get back immediately into the shape that we were before the international break.

However, the former Croatia senior national team head coach stated he is always happy to see his players go off and represent their country.

“You don’t have your players until a couple of days before a game – but I always welcome when my players are called for international duty,” Bilic concluded.

The Hammers will host Palace in a London derby at the Boleyn Ground. Kick-off is at 16h00 (CAT).

  • Of Moses and Kachikwu

    Of Moses and Kachikwu

Hardball wagers that adversity sharpens the mind. And here is an example. The excruciating living conditions of most citizens today, sharply brings to one’s mind, some kind of parallel between the biblical Prophet Moses and our junior oil minister, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu. Bible students will agree that Moses is perhaps the most significant figure in the good book, second only to Jesus Christ. Now how can anyone begin to place Kachikwu beside Moses?

Here is how: the great leader of the Israelites, Moses, despite being imbued with so much grace and anointing, was voided of grace at a point.

If you remember the great story of the Israelites journey through the wilderness, you are bound to lose it too if you are leading a pampered tribe on a most punishing desert journey. At every juncture, the people are grumbling and looking back to Egypt from where God miraculously sprung them from a vicious Pharaoh.

In one of those testy moments, the Israelites came to the wilderness of Zin in Kadesh and there was no water. And the entire people gathered together against Moses and his brother Aaron. And they spoke most contentiously: “… And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.” (Numbers 20:5).

Moses and Aaron as usual, fall on their faces in intercession on behalf of their recalcitrant brethren. Soon enough the glory of the Lord appears to the duo. And the Lord speaks issuing clear, solemn instructions: “Take the rod; (the same rod Moses had used to wrought unbelievable wonders including parting the Red Sea) you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their very eyes and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock…”

What did good old Moses do? Already uptight and pissed off with an ungrateful clan, he gathers the assembly before the rock; and he says to them: “”Hear now, you rebels, must we bring water to you out of this rock?” Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; …”

Of course those who know the Word know the grievous consequences of Moses’ action. They also understand who the Rock represents.

Now to our dear Kachikwu: Asked last week when the fuel scarcity pain will ease for Nigerians, he said: “One of the trainings I did not receive is that of a magician but I am working hard to ensure some of these issues go away… and for the six months we have been here, NNPC has moved from 50 per cent importer to 100 per cent importer… so quite frankly, it’s sheer magic that we even have the amount of products at the stations. We are looking to see how to get foreign exchange…”

Can you hear Kachikwu sounding exasperated with the rest of us the way Moses sounded when the Israelites needed water? He has never queued in a fuel station before, Hardball wagers. But Nigerians need fuel and it is either he can do the job or not.

And Hardball thinks his job is very simple: he must work on new refineries pronto, lest the scarcity lingers till 2019. Nothing else will work.
