    Emenike, Moses in Sunderland victory

WEST Ham extended their unbeaten home run to 13 games with a win over Sunderland, who missed the opportunity to climb out of the relegation zone.

Michail Antonio’s first-half goal, his fifth in 15 starts for the club, proved the difference.

The forward weaved into the box and struck low into the bottom corner of Vito Mannone’s goal.

Jack Rodwell had the ball in the net for Sunderland in the second half but he handled it in the build-up.

Striker Emmanuel Emenike was in action for 59 minutes but did not score in West Ham United’s 1-0 win against Sunderland. Victor Moses came off the bench in place of Manuel Lanzini five minutes later.

Substitute Rodwell also saw a second effort go over the bar after a superb last-ditch tackle from Hammers full-back Sam Byram, while Andy Carroll’s volley smashed off the cross bar at the other end.

It means Sam Allardyce’s side remain second from bottom on 23 points, one behind Newcastle and Norwich.

West Ham move up to fifth place on 43 points – their highest total after 27 Premier League games.

    Moses’ injury woes worry Oliseh

Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh has said he will delay his choice of players like Chelsea loanee Victor Moses for next month’s all-important AFCON double-header against Egypt to be sure they will be available for the matches.

Victor Moses, who is on loan to West Ham from Chelsea, has not played under Oliseh since he took charge of the Eagles in July 2015, but he is now believed to be in the team’s plans as Nigeria pull all the stops to ensure they beat Egypt in Kaduna on March 26.

“Victor Moses is doing well, but he is always on and off, injured … okay … injured…okay…,” complained Oliseh.

“We will pick players who are fit and doing well, but we will only do that just about the time we will invite the players because what if I have a player on my head now and just when we will invite, he is injured or has some problems?”

The Eagles also disclosed he has not ruled out some new faces for the Egypt matches.

“It’s very possible (to call up new players) because this game is one we want to go with all the artillery we have,” he said.

“Everyone who is doing well knows he will be considered for selection.”

Egypt lead the AFCON qualifying group with six points after two rounds of matches, while Nigeria are second and two points behind with only the group winners guaranteed automatic qualification to the Nations Cup to be staged by Gabon in January 2017.

Tanzania and Chad are the other teams in the group.

Moses, who recently returned from injury, will be spoiling for some action against England’s most expensive club reveled at his first goal against the country’s first choice goalie, Joe Hart.

“I was kind of delighted with that strike! I got the ball from Payet and when I turned, there was nobody around me.

“The next thing on my mind was to have a shot and thankfully the ball went into the corner. That was the first time I had scored past Joe Hart as well.

“You have got to be happy when you score against Manchester City because they are a good team and have world class players. Scoring against them meant a lot to me.”

“The most important thing is that we stay together as a team again and do everything to get the three points on Saturday.”

    •Omeruo too

Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has said that Victor Moses’ absence in the double header international friendly matches against Congo DR and Cameroun in Mons and Denderleeuw will not affect the team.

Moses, who was in action for his London club West Ham United in a 2-2 draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in Saturday’s English Premier League for 55th minute, said he was pulling out in a precautionary move against injury.

Earlier, Turkey–based defender Kenneth Omeruo was ruled out of the matches owing to injury.

Oliseh, while regretting this setback, assured that the team have enough good quality options to fill the gaps left by both players.

“We have no choice now but to work with the other players who are available,” Oliseh said.

“The fact that the other batch of players from home were not issued their visas last week is also setting us back because we would really want to take advantage of the time to put in a lot of work.”

Meanwhile, reports from Turkish club Kasimpasa suggest Kenneth Omeruo will be out for just two weeks, allaying fears in certain quarters that the injury could keep the defender out for a long time.

Omeruo is, therefore, expected to be back in the Super Eagles group in November for Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture against the winner of the Djibouti/Swaziland first round fixture.
