    Plateau unity Christmas carol: Mutfwang leads Gowon, Obasanjo, others in praise and worship

    In a historic effort to foster peace, unity, and protect Plateau State’s divine heritage, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has inaugurated the first-ever Plateau Unity Christmas Carol and Praise Festival.

    The event, which took place at the Ten Commandments Prayer Altar in Doi, Jos South Local Government Area, brought together distinguished personalities, including former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

    Alongside other state citizens, they participated in a powerful display of praise and worship, thanking God for the restoration of peace and progress in the region.

    In his address to the interdenominational gathering, Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the festival marks a critical milestone for the unity and prophetic destiny of Plateau State.

    He expressed that the event symbolized the beginning of a new journey toward unity, progress, and the fulfillment of the state’s divine potential.

    This was contained statement, issued by Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Mutfwang, on Saturday, November 30.

    “The Plateau Unity Christmas Carol and Praise Festival marks the beginning of a journey to unity, progress, and the fulfillment of Plateau’s divine destiny,” the Governor remarked.

    “For too long, we have fought many battles, both internal and external, but the time has come—and the time is now—to unite as a people. God has blessed this land abundantly, and it is our collective responsibility to harness these blessings for the greater good.”

    He further emphasized the state’s immense potential, stating, “Plateau is a land of blessing—fertile, resource-rich, and strategically positioned by God. By His grace, Plateau will rise as a beacon of hope and prosperity, fulfilling its destiny as a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden.”

    Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), commended the initiative and expressed gratitude for the Governor’s commitment to promoting peace and unity.

    Reflecting on the state’s turbulent past, he noted, “Plateau has endured many challenges, but under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership, the state is experiencing recovery and healing. This gathering is a testament to our collective desire to worship God and seek His intervention for peace in Plateau, Nigeria, and beyond.”

    Gen. Gowon also praised the performances by the various groups and the sermon delivered by Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, describing them as spiritually uplifting. He urged the people of Plateau to not only profess peace but to embody it in their daily lives.

    Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was commended for attending the event, with Gen. Gowon recalling the pivotal role he played in saving Obasanjo from a death sentence during a critical period in Nigeria’s history.

    Former Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Jerry Gana, hailed the initiative as divinely inspired, emphasizing that God was pleased with the multitude of souls gathered to praise Him.

    In his sermon, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), reading from Luke 2:13 and Psalm 96:1, highlighted the message of peace brought by Jesus Christ. He encouraged citizens of Plateau state to live out the teachings of Christ, rise above divisions of ethnicity or politics, and remain steadfast in their faith.

    The event featured scriptural readings by notable personalities including former Governor Joshua Dariye, Deputy Governor Hon. Josephine Piyo, and Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang. The inspiring program included soul-lifting songs, cultural performances, and a profound message of hope and reconciliation.

    The Plateau Unity Christmas Carol and Praise Festival has set a new precedent for spiritual and social cohesion in the state, reinforcing the commitment of its leaders and citizens to a brighter, united future.

    Plateau LG polls: Mutfwang votes, assures electorate’s votes ‘ll count

    Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has exercised his franchise in the ongoing local government elections in the state, assuring citizens that their votes will count.

    Mutfwang gave the assurance after casting his vote in Ampang West, Mangu Local Government Area of the state at exactly 9:15 a.m.

    “As you can see, the exercise has begun in earnest; you can see enthusiastic voters trooping to the polling units to cast their votes.

    “We assure people in this election that their votes will count. I am glad that the process is going seamlessly and quite fast.

    “In fact, it’s faster than the BVAS machines that we used in the general elections. I am confident that the queue of voters will soon clear,” he said.

    Speaking on the general security situation in the state, the governor said that there were minimal security threats, owing to the degree of transparency exhibited by his government.

    “People are moving about; the security agencies do not have much work to do; when you provide for transparency, it reduces tension.

    “No hitches have been reported to me so far, and as at yesterday, all that Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) needed had been adequately provided for,” he said.

    The governor, however, stressed the need for evolving the use of technology to make BVAS machines more efficient.

    “The smoothness of this exercise has shown that we must not be static in the use of any technological platform; we must continue evolving and looking out for the best.

    “Accreditation is at the heart of any transparent election and should be done seamlessly.

    “When people cast their votes, knowing that those votes will count, I am sure the electoral process will continue to evolve with integrity,” Mutfwang said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the atmosphere in Ampang West was calm and peaceful, with voters casting their ballots and community members going about their daily activities.

    Mutfwang reinstates two suspended Commissioners, otters

    Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang has lifted the suspension of two commissioners, a special adviser and a liaison officer.

    The Governor’s decision followed a thorough review of their conduct during the suspension.

    The officials who have resumed their roles include Hon. Chrysanthus Dawam, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning and Hon. Jamila Tukur, Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Hospitality.

    Also reinstated are Hon. Dio Lamul, Special Adviser on Rural Development, and Hon. Moses Sule, Liaison Officer for Mikang Constituency.

    The decision was announced by Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, on October 1, 2024.

    Mutfwang dissolves Local Government transition committee chairmen

    Plateau State Governor,  Caleb  Mutfwang, has announced the dissolution of the 17 Local Government Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen, effective from September 6, 2024.

    This follows the autonomy granted to local governments in Nigeria by the Supreme Court .

    Recall that the  committees were constituted on June 9, 2023, when the former were sacked.

    The governor, in a statement, directed the Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) to assume responsibility of the administration of the local government areas until elections are held on October 9, 2024 to fill the positions.

    Mutfwang commended the Transition Committee chairmen for their exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing developmental projects that have directly impacted their communities.

    He expressed pride in their accomplishments and urged them to continue offering valuable counsel to promote peace and unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Plateau State.

    He thanked the people of Plateau State for their unwavering support, noting that the outcome of the PDP primaries for the chairmanship and councillorship elections reflects the deep connection the people have with the party.

    Mutfwang awards contract for new 55 secondary schools in Plateau

    Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has awarded contracts for the construction of 55 new secondary schools across the state.

    The contract signing ceremony, held at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, marked a significant step in the governor’s commitment to transforming the state’s educational infrastructure.

    During the event, Governor Mutfwang emphasised that the new schools must adhere to international standards and serve as models for future educational developments.

    “This project, under the Plateau State Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), funded by the World Bank, is a crucial investment in improving the learning environment for our students,” Mutfwang stated.

    He stressed that these projects are designed to empower the girl-child, acknowledging that educating women leads to far-reaching benefits for society as a whole.

    In a symbolic presentation of award letters to contractors, the governor issued a firm directive: “Let me warn you ahead of time, you must do a good job. We will ensure that these projects meet the highest standards.

    “Our supervisory mechanisms will be top-notch because we want to set a precedent with this initiative. When the World Bank team comes for evaluation, we must not be found wanting.”

    The governor emphasised that the funds allocated for these projects are not free grants, urging contractors to strictly adhere to the specified building standards and timelines.

    Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mohammed Nyalun, expressed gratitude to the World Bank, the Federal Government and Governor Mutfwang for their roles in making the project a reality.

    Mutfwang reaffirms commitment to combating illicit substance abuse in Plateau

    Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to combat substance abuse across the state.

    Governor Mutfwang stated this during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Muhammad Buba Marwa (Rtd), at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

    He commended Gen. Marwa for the significant efforts in tackling substance abuse nationwide, praising his resilience and dedication to ridding the country of drug-related issues.

    Mutfwang also acknowledged the support his administration has received from the agency in its efforts to curb the menace in Plateau State and called for greater synergy in order to further stem the tide of what he called the “killer disease.”

    Governor Mutfwang emphasised the critical role of the NDLEA’s mandate in ensuring the well-being of families across the state, noting that nearly every home has been affected by the scourge of drug abuse—a phenomenon that has become a national crisis.

    We have closely observed your performance, and it is clear that since you took over, the NDLEA has executed its duties with greater vigour and determination. Many who profit from the illicit drug trade have found it increasingly difficult to operate since your arrival,” said the governor.

    “On the Plateau, we are genuinely concerned about the impact of substance abuse and illegal drug trafficking on our people, and we are here to explore better ways of collaboration.”

    Mutfwang, in a statement by his spokesman, Gyang Bere, called for enhanced collaboration at all levels, urging a focus on leveraging intelligence networks beyond the conventional roadblocks to trace the origins and transportation routes of illegal substances entering the country.

    In response, Brig. Gen. Marwa commended Governor Mutfwang for implementing people-oriented programmes that have positively impacted the lives of Plateau citizens.

    He also praised the governor’s courage and maturity in handling security issues in the state and assured him of the agency’s commitment to achieving lasting peace and a drug-free Plateau.

    Gen. Marwa stressed that the fight against illicit drugs must be all-encompassing for the country to overcome the life-threatening challenge.

    The NDLEA CEO also revealed that the agency is taking steps to build barracks across the 36 states for its personnel, as drug addicts often turn against officers after being released on bail.

    The Plateau state government has further relaxed the curfew in the Jos-Bukuru Metropolis.

    In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, it was announced that, starting from Sunday, residents are now allowed to move freely between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily until further notice.

    Bere stated that Governor Caleb Mutfwang made the decision to ease the curfew after consulting with security agencies, following improvements in the security situation.

    The Governor reassured the public that the government remains committed to making decisions in the best interest of the people.

    Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis midnight of Sunday, August 4, 2024.

    Mutfwang, in consultation with state security agencies, took the decision after reviewing the actions of those exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on citizens.

    The Governor noted that these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.

    Mutfwang, in a statement by his spokesman Gyang Bere, emphasised that the curfew was in the best interest of all citizens and urged everyone to comply fully to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

    He directed security agencies in the State to ensure the total enforcement of the curfew across Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.

    He warned those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law.

    The Governor also called on the relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order.

    Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly the clergy and imams, for their unwavering support of government’s policies and programs.
