“Thank you, Mr President, for listening to the cry of the vulnerable in Nigeria.

“We are living in a difficult times and moment when mistakes of the past have led us to the current problems we are confronting.

“The problems required painful policies to be put in place, which made life painful at the moment.

“Mr  President has deemed fit to procure and release these items to every state of the federation so that we can address the immediate stomach challenges while we are waiting for bumper harvest this year.

“It is my prayer that next year we will not need to supply palliatives but will be able to farm sufficiently to be able to provide food security to our people and be able to drive hunger from every home in Nigeria,” he said.

Mutfwang said that his administration was determined to tackle poverty and, by the grace of God, ensure that all farmlands were cultivated to be able to maximize the blessings God has put in the land for the Plateau people.

Mrs Zubaida Umar, NEMA Director General, said that palliatives were in fulfillment of President Tinubu’s promise to reduce the impact of the current economic downturn being experienced in the country in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Umar was represented by Alhaji Bashir Garga, NEMA North Central Zonal Director, who said that Mr President had approved the release of 42,000 metric tons of assorted food commodities from the national strategic reserve.

The D-G said that the assorted food commodities include maize, millet, sorghum, and garri.

The forum’s Chairman, Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, who made the call at their first quarter meeting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, had explained that the Governor’s defection to the APC is necessary for the development of Plateau State because he (the Governor) will be on the same page with President Bola Tinubu, the other North Central Governor’s who are of the APC and other federal legislators from the state, and they can altogether have a common ground and cause.

Furtherance to the call therefore, the forum has met with the APC chieftains from the state in Abuja to intensify their strategy in wooing the Governor to the APC.

Speaking to reporters on the outcome of the meeting on Friday in Jos, Zazzaga said they had a successful deliberation and that they all expressed satisfaction with Governor Mutfwang’s sincere developmental pursuits, inclusiveness, peaceful nature and achievements so far.

He said that is why they want him in the APC where he could work with like minds to swiftly tackle the developmental deficit and security challenges faced by the state.

Zazzaga stressed that they are still consulting with the elders and other stakeholders of the party to have a formidable action plan, after which they will write a letter to the governor inviting him to the APC.

He added that after writing the letter to the governor, they will also write to the APC in his ward in Mangu notifying them, the Plateau State APC and the national APC.

Against the backdrop of the APC’s bid to lure him into the party, the Plateau State governor, Mutfwang, has advocated for comprehensive and transparent electoral reforms that respect and uphold the electoral decisions of citizens.

Mutfwang: President inherited economy worse than in 1999

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a Nigeria whose economy was worse than how it was in 1999.

The governor spoke at the swearing-in of 22 Special Advisers yesterday in Jos, the state capital.

He said: “We are at a very difficult juncture in the history of this country. I’m an advocate that after elections, you forget politics and face governance.

“Even though the Federal Government is being led by a party other than my own, I owe you the duty to tell Nigerians the truth that this government inherited a worse situation than 1999.

“This government inherited an economy where we simply printed money up to the tune of N30 trillion and shared. This government inherited an economy where the crude oil we’re yet to take out of the ground had been sold in advance.

“So, when you’re talking about the fall of the naira, it’s not rocket science. We sold our future under the last administration. No wonder you’re hearing of riots today, people intercepting food on the way. But we are lucky on the plateau that perhaps we have more food than many other states.

“I pray that the time will not come on the platform that we will see this kind of riot for food. But it means we must roll our sleeves and get to work.”

Mutfwang told the new aides that there is no money to share under his administration.

“You are coming on board; they will add value to governance. This is the most critical time for all the advisers. You must go and look for money. There’s no money to share.

“You must put up your thinking caps and help us where we can source for funds,” he said.

“With the current economic situation, we have no option but to return to agriculture.

“One of the key things we must pursue is the business of agriculture. We must take advantage of our rich potential to make Plateau the agriculture hub of Nigeria.

“The world is waiting for us to export flowers, strawberry, coffee, vegetables, and other items to foreign countries. The market is there for us to explore.”

“Let me encourage our people to go back to agriculture. As a government, we will support this move.”

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the brutal killing of the State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sylvanus Namang by suspected kidnappers.

In a condolence message, Governor Mutfwang described the incident as a heinous crime and a barbaric act that violates the sanctity of human life.

He urged the security agencies to spare no effort in tracking down and bringing to justice the culprits of the dastardly act.

He said the untimely death of the State Publicity Secretary was a colossal loss not only to his family and the APC, but also to the entire Plateau State and the nation at large.

He sympathized with the Mwaghavul nation, the APC, Plateau State and all those who knew and worked with the late Sylvanus Namang.

Mutfwang, in a statement by his spokesman, Gyang Bere, praised the late Sylvanus Namang for his unwavering faith, wisdom, diligence, commitment and resilience in the service of God and humanity.

He said he was a loyal and dedicated party man who contributed immensely to the growth and development of the APC in the state.

He said he was a compassionate and generous leader who touched many lives with his kindness and charity.

The governor equally sympathized with the family of late Mr Sunny Okonkwo, who was also killed by the suspected kidnappers and prayed God to comfort the grieving family.

Mutfwang, on behalf of his family, the government and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Mwaghavul nation, the Igbo Community, the APC and prayed God Almighty to grant them comfort and the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The APC Chairman in the state, Rufus Bature, tasked the security agencies to go after the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bring them to justice adding that officials and members of the party at the moment are living in fear.

He narrated that based on the information made available to the party Namang was  dastardly murdered at a provision store in Pankshin by some gunmen suspected to be assassins along with the owner of the store.

“Though details of this unacceptable and unfortunate incident are yet to  be released by the security agencies, we as a Party feel constrained and also seriously agitated as well as concerned about the circumstances  leading to his death for some obvious reasons”.

The State party Chairman described the deceased as a very vibrant, articulate and fearless spokesman of the party who not only promoted and defended the ideals of the APC, but ensured that it maintained its hold of the state at all cost.

According to him, Namang posture and the disposition towards APC, especially on the Plateau, endeared him to many, though not without some harassments and intimidation by opponents.

He said: “Without sounding immodest as a Party, we refuse to subscribe to the narratives being peddled around on the gruesome murder even when investigations have not been concluded. The APC views this as a serious matter and wants to believe that some of its key members and some citizens are no longer safe in Plateau State.

“Consequently, we demand a thorough investigation into the murder and the perpetrators of this dastardly act should be brought to justice to allay any fears that have at the moment engulfed the teeming supporters of the APC”.

He also commiserated with the Namang family and indeed the APC not only in Plateau State but entire Country for this great loss and called on the party supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, while awaiting the outcome of investigation into the matter.
