I can’t charge to Minister- Nathaniel Bassey

Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has shared thoughts on whether gospel ministers should charge for guest ministrations in churches.

Bassey revealed that he does not charge for services, citing his personal conviction that ministry should not be commercialised.

He believed that since ministry is a service to God, it’s improper to put a price on it.

He said: “If a church invites me to come and minister, they are doing two things. They are inviting me to minister to God and to his people.

“Let me just say this before I trend in twitter, to my own understanding is when you tell me to minister to God, I can’t charge God to minister to him.

“How much did he charge me for his blood on Calvary? The blood that is the very reason for my ministry. It’s a personal thing for me and it has worked for me, so why leave what is working?”

Bassey’s stance comes amid a heated debate sparked by Apostle Femi Lazarus, who criticised gospel artists for charging exorbitant fees to perform at church events.

The Pastor recalled an instance where a singer demanded a hefty sum to perform for his congregation.

While some have praised Bassey’s stance, others have argued that gospel artists have expenses to cover and should be compensated for their work.

Not knowing Nathaniel Bassey or any of the young vibrant servants of God being used does not make you any less a Christian. In fact, there are so many Christians who have never heard of me nor my music. It doesn’t make them any less christians. They don’t have to know me. I’m not the best thing after slice bread.

I do not even see myself in that manner. I would be thinking of myself more highly than I ought doing so.

“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”

    Romans 12:3

“Also, not joining the Hallelujah challenge does not make you less a Christian. People are free to connect with what’s best for them.

“I describe it in this way. Apples don’t grow everywhere. It doesn’t mean the places apples don’t grow are bad. It may just not be apples’ environment.

“Those of us joining should never look down on those joining. Those who are not joining should also not look down on those joining.

“Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Romans 14:3.
