    NiMet alerts Nigerians to meningitis outbreak

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued an alert about the outbreak of meningitis in most parts of the country.

    In its current bulletin, the agency cautioned the public about the high risk of meningitis outbreak due to atmospheric conditions, especially in the North.

    NiMet said the states that have a high risk of the outbreak are: Katsina, Jigawa, Kano, Bauchi, and Yobe.”

    The agency’s alert reads: “The observed atmospheric conditions are currently favourable for meningitis, mainly across the northern part of the country. The meningococcal meningitis remains the most prevalent strain within the meningitis belt.”

    It noted that the most vulnerable groups include the infants, young children, the elderly, those with weak immune system and people with head injuries.

    According to the bulletin, the symptoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, light sensitivity, and seizures.

    The safety protocols NiMet prescribed are: “Getting vaccinated against meningitis, practicing good hygiene by washing the hands, and regularly avoiding close contact with those infected.”

    The agency urged relevant agencies responsible for public health to take note and take preventive actions.

  • NiMet predicts thunderstorms, rain for Sunday

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains for Sunday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Saturday in Abuja predicted partly cloudy morning over Northern states with chances of thunderstorm over southern Maiduguri during the afternoon/evening hours.

    According to it, day and night temperatures of the region are expected to be 31 to 35 degree Celsius and 21 to 24 degree Celsius.

    “For Central states, cloudy conditions are expected with chances of thunderstorms over Abuja, Niger and Kwara states in the morning hours.

    “Later in the day there are chances of thunderstorms over Abuja, Lafia, Yola, Jos and Taraba state in the afternoon/evening period.

    “Day and night temperatures are expected to be 28 to 34 degree Celsius and 17 to 23 degree Celcius.”

    The agency forecast prospect of thunderstorms/rains over the
    southwest inland of Southern states and chances of rains over the coastal axis in the morning hours.

    It envisaged prospects of thunderstorms and rains over most places in the region during the afternoon/evening hours with day and night temperatures of 30 to 32 degree Celsius and 21 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains over most parts of the country on Saturday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Friday in Abuja envisaged some cloudy conditions over the eastern parts of the country particularly.

    According to it, thunderstorms are anticipated over Sokoto, Kano, Kebbi and Katsina axis of northern States with cloudy conditions around the eastern parts of the region in the morning hours.

    The agency forecast thunderstorms later in the day and night temperatures of 30 to 33 degree Celsius and 21 to 23 degree Celsius respectively.

    It predicted prospects of thunderstorms over Kaduna, Abuja, Niger and Kwara states with cloudy conditions over the eastern states of the region in the morning.

    It forecast likely thunderstorms and rains over most parts of the region later in the day with day and night temperatures of 24 to 32 degree Celsius and 16 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    “For  the southern states, thunderstorms and rains are expected in the morning over the western parts with cloudy conditions dominating the eastern parts.

    “Rains are likely over the region in the afternoon and evening period with day and night temperatures put at 30 to 33 degree Celcius and 20 to 24 degree Celsius.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted prospect of thunderstorms and rains over the Northern and Central cities with moderate rains over Southern cities on Saturday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Friday in Abuja predicted thunderstorms over Maiduguri and Potiskum axis of Northern States during the morning hours.

    It further predicted better chances of thunderstorms over the region during the afternoon/evening with day and night temperatures of 29 to 32 degree Celsius
    and 20 to 23 degree Celsius respectively.

    “For Central States, moderate rains are expected in the morning over Yola, Jalingo and Bauchi axis with chances of light showers over Abuja.

    “Later in the day, there are chances of thunderstorms over the high ground areas during the afternoon/evening period.

    “Day and Night temperature values are expected to be 25 to 33 degree Celsius and 17 to 24 degree Celsius.

    According to the agency, cloudy conditions are expected over the Southern States except over Eket and Calabar axis where there are slight chances of early morning rains.

    NiMet forecast moderate rains over most parts of the region with day and night temperature of 28 to 30 and 22 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms over most parts of the Northern and Central States with chances of rain over Inlands and Coasts on Wednesday.

    NiMet’s weather output on Tuesday in Abuja predicted thunderstorms over the Northern States throughout the forecast period with high chances over Sokoto and Yelwa.

    The agency envisaged day and night temperatures of the region to be 28 to 33 degree Celsius and 21 to 23 degree Celsius respectively.

    “For Central States, moderate rains are expected in the morning, progressing into the day; thunderstorms and rains are likely with day and night temperatures of 24 to30 degree Celsius and 17 to 23 degree Celsius.

    ” For Southern States, there are prospects of rains over the entire region throughout the forecast period with day and night temperature of 26 to 29 degree Celsius and 20 to 23 degree Celsius respectively,” NiMet said.

    Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted increased rainfall activities over Northern States and subsidence over  Southern States of the country for Sunday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook predicted thunderstorms over Northern states during the forecast period with prospects of cloudy condition over Sokoto, Gusau and Kebbi in the morning hours with day and night temperatures of 31 to 33 degree Celsius and 21 to 25 degree Celsius.

    “For Central states, intermittent rains are expected over this region in the morning hours.

    Acording to the agency, cloudy conditions are expected over southern states in the morning hours.

    NiMet forecasts moderate rains over the region during the afternoon/evening hours with day and night temperatures of 29 to31 degree Celsius and 21 to 23 degree celsius.

    Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains over most parts of the country on Monday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Sunday in Abuja forecast thunderstorms over Kano, Maiduguri and Nguru axis of Nothern States in the morning hours leaving the rest parts in cloudy condition.

    It envisaged prospects of thunderstorms over Gusau, Yelwa, Sokoto and Kebbi axis in the afternoon/evening hours with day and night temperatures of values 29 to 33 degree Celsius and 24 to 25 degree Celcius respectively.

    ” For Central States, thunderstorms/moderate rains are expected over areas like Makurdi, Abuja, Kaduna and Jos axis in the morning hours.

    ” Also, with more prospects of thunderstorms/rains over most parts of the region in the afternoon/evening period with day and night temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees Celsius,” NiMet said.

    According to NiMet, moderate rains are expected over Southern States with chances of cloudy condition over the inland of the southeast in the morning hours.

    The agency predicted moderate rains over the entire region in the afternoon/evening period with day and night temperatures of 28 to 30 degree Celsius and 21 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thundary, rainy activities across the country for Wednesday.

    NiMet’s weather outlook on Tuesday in Abuja predicted thunderstorms over Kano and Katsina of the Northern States in the morning hours.

    It predicted thunderstorm over Kano, Katsina, Potiskum, Damaturu, Dutse and Gusau later in the day with day and night temperatures of 30 to 34 degree Celsius and 23 to 26 degree Celsius respectively.

    ” For Central States, partly cloudy to cloudy condition is anticipated over the region in the morning hours.

    ” There are prospects of thunderstorms over Jos, Gombe, Yola, Mambila Plateau and Bauchi during the afternoon/evening hours.

    “Day and night temperature values are expected to be 28 to 34 degree Celsius and 18 to 24 degree Celsius respectively, ” NiMet said .

    According to it, cloudy conditions are expected over the Southern States with chances of rain over Warri, Benin and Asaba axis in the morning.

    The agency predicted intermittent rains over most places in the region later in the day with day and night temperatures of 29 to 32 degree Celsius and 21 to 24 degree Celsius respectively.

  • What the weather will be like on Friday — NiMet

    Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted more influx of moisture into the country for Friday.

    NiMet`s “Weather Outlook“ on Thursday in Abuja predicted rains over central states during the morning hours.

    According to NiMet, thunderstorms are likely over Jos, Bauchi, Abuja, Adamawa and Mambilla Plateau while other part will be cloudy later in the day.

    It further predicted day and night of the region`s  temperature of  27 to 35 degree Celsius and 18 to 26 degree Celsiusrespectively.

    “For Northern States, partly cloudy conditions are expected over the eastern flank of the region with chances of thunderstorms over Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.

    “ Later in the day, partly cloudy conditions are likely over the western flank of the region with chances of thunderstorms over Maiduguri, Yobe, Nguru, Dutse and Gombe.

    “The day and night temperature of the region are expected to be 34 to 37 degree Celsius and 24 to 25 degree Celsius, “ NiMet predicted.

    According to the agency, moderate rains are expected over the Southern States region during the morning hours, except Enugu, Abia, Umuahia, Asaba, Owerri, Onitsha, Ogoja and Obudu.

    NiMet further predicted rainy activities and thunderstorms over the entire region during the afternoon/evening hours with day and night temperature of 29 to 34 degree Celsius and 21 to 24 degree Celsius.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rains over the North and coastal region of the country on Monday.

    The NiMET`s “ Weather Outlook“ on Sunday in Abuja predicted cloudy conditions over the central states with prospects of thunderstorms over Abuja, Plateau, Yola, Jalingo and Mambilla plateau axis in the morning.

    The agency predicted thunderstorms over Niger, Ilorin, Abuja and Nassarawa axis later in the day with day and night temperatures of 24 to 33 degree Celsius and 16 to 25 degree Celsius.

    “For Northern states, thunderstorms are anticipated over Sokoto, Katsina, Yola, Maiduguri and Kebbi in the morning.

    “Afternoon/evening storms are likely to affect Maiduguri, Yola and its environs in the afternoon with day and night temperature of 31 to 33 degree Celsius and 22 to 25 degree Celsius respectively,“ NiMET predicted.

    According to the agency, rains are likely over Southern states in the morning hours except for places like Calabar, Ikom, Port-Harcourt and Uyo which are expected to be cloudy.

    It further predicted rainy activities over the region except for Lagos, Oshogbo and warri which were expected to be cloudy with day and night temperatures of 29 to-31 degree Celsius and 20 to 40 degree Celsius.
