Reps committee begs Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu

The chairman of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee interfacing with relevant security agencies to reduce kidnapping, assassinations and banditry in the communities within Abia state, Obinna Aguocha, has called for the release of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as panacea for peace in the south east.

Aguocha who spoke at the resumed hearing of the committee, however, said that Nigerians must also be prepared to tackle the root causes of the insecurities at their core and work to ensure a lasting solutions that would stand the test of time.

He said: “For absolute peace, reduction of crime and criminality, investment in meaningful infrastructure development, ending the unproductive sit-at-home and improving economic growth and opportunities in the Southeast, starts with the government’s recognition of the rule of law, justics, and equitable inclusion of the Southeast zone in the project Nigeria.

“It also lies with the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from unlawful detention to ensure lasting peace and security in the entire region”.

He further stated: “The challenges we face are not mere statistics or headlines; they are real-life manifestations that affect the lives of our people, disrupt the functioning of our institutions and communities, thus impeding the growth of our region.”

“Instances of criminal activities, banditry, kidnapping, assassinations, communal and religious clashes, and threats to life have shaken the very foundation of our societies.

“As leaders and stakeholders, it is incumbent upon us to come together, transcending our differences, to find sustainable solutions that will quell these threats and pave the way for a brighter future.

“We recognize that insecurity cannot be combated by one entity alone; it does require a collective, multi-faceted approach that encompasses various perspectives and expertise of law enforcement agencies, community leaders, policymakers, scholars, and citizens”.

He said the ongoing engagement will provide the opportunity to harness the diverse perspectives and channel them into coherent, actionable strategies for peace.

The lawmaker added: “The cross-border dynamics of the primary focus areas bring additional complexity to the challenges of the task ahead. The common borders, shared with four other states connect the primary focus areas to Ebonyi State via Isiagu, Enugu State via Agwu, Imo state via Okigwe and Anambra via Awka.

“The opportunity for interstate collaboration presents itself and must be explored to foster regional participation. The challenges faced by one state ripple across its neighbors, and therefore, our strategies for resolution must be all inclusive. By synergizing our resources, expertise, and perspectives, we can create a stronger front against insecurity and strengthen the bonds that bind us together.

“This committee wishes to applaud the efforts of state governments in the Southeast region as well as the Federal government for its demonstrable commitment to peace and security in the Southeast”, he said.

A member of the committee, Amobi Ogah accused the police of using multiple checkpoints in the troubled areas to extort money from innocent citizens, instead of combing the bushes to flush out the criminals as demanded by the House through its resolution.

He said of all the prayers, including setting up of a joint security task force to comb the bushes, nothing has been done, but rather the mounting of multiple checkpoints, which he described as “embarrassing”, while kidnapping is yet on the increase.

Okay noted: “I want this to be on record that the police are doing nothing, but collecting money.”

  • IPOB takes independence agitation to UN

THE proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has taken what it called the grievances of the Igbo to the United Nations (UN).

It said on Thursday that its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, vowed before the UN that Biafra’s case would no longer be ignored.

He led a delegation to a series of meetings with various UN agencies and officials in Geneva.

IPOB’s spokesman Emma Powerful said in a statement that Kanu demanded urgent action against alleged rights abuses.

He also spoke on the need to support “Biafrans’” self-determination as enshrined in law, statute and various UN conventions.

IPOB said: “Every issue concerning our people is now before the various arms and agencies of the UN. Our case will no longer be ignored.”

The statement said Kanu was accompanied by his deputy, Mazi Uche Mefor, Head of Directorate of State, Mazi Chika Edoziem, and others.

IPOB said Kanu also raised the issue of the continued illegal detention of Omoleye Sowore, the alleged persecution of the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria led by Sheikh El-Zakzaky, among others.

The statement said: “Every issue concerning our people as mentioned by Kanu ranges from the incessant killing of Biafrans in their own land by terrorist herdsmen to extortion and killing of Biafran motorcyclists and commercial drivers over refusal to give N50 bribe…”

It said Kanu also raised the issues of “systematic oppression and economic emasculation of the Biafran, illegal detention of unarmed agitators, flagrant contempt for court orders, and incessant abduction and extrajudicial killings of IPOB family members”.

It said all the issues form the basis of the agitation for the separate state of Biafra, “which was existing before the Lugardian amalgamation of 1914.”

The statement added: “Exploiting the rights of indigenous people to self-determination as provided by the UN charter 2007, Mazi Kanu has conscientiously pursued freedom for the oppressed people of Biafra.”

  • IPOB alleges plot to attack Kanu’s home

THE proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday said it uncovered a plot to attack the ancestral home of its leader Nnamdi Kanu in Isiama, Afara-Ukwu Ibeku in Abia State.

It accused Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of being behind the plot.

But, the governor described the allegation as baseless. His Special Adviser on Media, Enyinnaya Apollos, said the Commissioner of Police confirmed that policemen were deployed in Kanu’s family home to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

He said the Police got a report that IPOB members planned to converge there to mark an anniversary.

Kanu’s home was allegedly attacked by soldiers on September 10, 2017, following which he fled the country.

The group alleged that a “killer squad” was stationed in front of Kanu’s compound by persons allegedly sent by the governor and his collaborators.

Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful urged the international community to prevail on Ikpeazu to withdraw the killer squad or be held responsible for any loss of lives.

The statement said: “Another round of genocide looms at the front of our leader’s compound in Isiama, Afara Ukwu-Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State.

“IPOB Intelligence Unit is gathering information on a killer squad stationed in front of our leader’s compound in Isiama Afaraukwu, the ancestral home of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“The assassins in a white Toyota Hilux loitering in front of our leader’s house in Isiama-Afaraukwu better retrace their steps.

“We are calling on the international community and civilised citizens across the world to be aware…If anybody killed in Afaraukwu, Okezie Ikpeazu and co would be held accountable.”

But, the governor’s spokesman said the governor did not conspire with anyone to draft any squad at Kanu’s country home nor has he any reason to do so.

He noted that when IPOB members may have provoked the governor in the past by denying him access to the Government House, he never overreacted.

He wondered why the governor would send anyone to Kanu’s “empty home” when neither he nor his parents were there.

“Nnamdi is not in the compound. His father who is a traditional ruler is not in the community and has refused to return despite the governor’s assurances.

“So, is it an empty compound that the so-called killer squad plans to attack?” the spokesman asked.

The governor’s spokesman said he spoke to the police commissioner, who confirmed that it was his men who were on patrol in the vicinity.

He said it was to ensure the safety of residents and to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order.

  • Southeast governors ban herdsmen from carrying AK 47 riffles in the zone

SOUTHEAST governors have banned the use of Ak 47 rifles and cutlasses by herdsmen in the zone.

The governors also denied involvement in the Operation Python Dance of 2017 in which the country home of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was raided.

The Chairman of the Forum, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, announced this at the end of an expanded meeting which was attended by the Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, Service Chiefs in the zone, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other stakeholders.

The governors also agreed on continuous joint air operation to flush out bandits from all forests in the Southeast zone.

“We also agreed that we have to put measures in place to restrain movement of herdsmen and their cattle from one state to another, which is a source and point of conflict with the natives and farmers and also restrain the movement of cattle and herdsmen from coming to communities across farmland. We commend Enugu State governor in the establishment of Forest Guards which was a decision of Southeast Governors. We encourage the remaining Southeast governors to launch theirs. Southeast governors have banned herdsmen who move about with AK 47 guns and cutlasses and we want our security agencies to implement same.

Southeast governors never invited the army nor were Southeast governors informed of any of their operations on Python Dance until the operations were already started in the states.

Southeast governors would like to write to Mr. President to request for a meeting with him and all the security chiefs on security to douse tension in the region,” Umahi stated.

The governors also disclosed the result of the parley with the Aviation Minister, saying: “We acknowledge the safety reasons given to us by the Hon Minister of Aviation, Sen Hadi Sirika, for the closure of Enugu Airport. It’s a matter of need to save the lives of our people. Hon Minister of Aviation has assured us that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport will be reconstructed to meet the Abuja International Airport standard; the runway shall be reconstructed and extended, and the landing equipment shall be replaced with a better night landing light installation and he has assured that the work will go on day and night and it must be completed before December 2019. Other works like the cargo section, extension of the tarmac, buildings that were damaged by rain storm etc., are also in the package. He has assured us also that two sets of contractors are pinned down for any of them to be used like Julius Berger as we requested and PW but in the weeks ahead we will be asking him that we have a choice of Julius Berger.

The South East governors will have a committee with Minister of Aviation and Minister of Works to discuss on the palliative measures.

They further pledged their commitment as Southeast governors “for the safety of our people, for the convenience of our people to ease all inconveniences and these we are going to do. Some states have already started and some states will also follow. And in the next one week we will totally roll out our palliative measures and we assure our people of their safety.”

  • IPOB finds new battlefront

Proscribed since 2017, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist group, now fancies attacking Nigerian leaders on foreign soil. But this new strategy is hardly winning the group any applause, writes OGOCHUKWU IKEJE, with reports from CHRIS OJI (Enugu), OKODILI NDIDI (Imo) and ELEKWA EMMA (Onitsha)

After suffering some reverses in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, in 2017 at the hands of the military during Operation Python Dance, including the hurried escape of its leader Nnamdi Kanu, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is doing everything possible to remain relevant and cause as much trouble as possible. The separatist group was disowned by governors of the Southeast states, a region Kanu and much of IPOB’s membership hails from. It was also proscribed.

But on August 17, members of the group roughened up Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President, in Nuremberg, Germany. Unremorseful, IPOB promised more rough time for Nigerian leaders once they set foot on foreign soil. Kanu himself rallied his members to attack President Muhammadu Buhari who travelled to Japan early last week. All of this triggered much concern among Nigeria leaders. Some prospective travellers shelved their plans. President Buhari has not come under any attack

Back home Kanu and his group came under attack, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation clearly condemned the attack on Ekweremadu.

The Movement of the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) warned the IPOB to stop making jest of the struggle for a Biafran independent state.

The separatist group noted that the recent  directive of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to his members in the Diaspora to attack Nigerian political leaders who travel abroad, has brought the struggle to ridicule, especially before the international community.

They pointed out that the directive runs against the ideals of the Biafran struggle which is hinged on non-violent struggle and peaceful advocacy.

A statement signed by the MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, read, “The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) as a foremost mother of all known and unknown groups agitating for Biafra actualisation and restoration advise IPOB to stop making caricature of Biafran struggle for emancipation.

“Every step that jeopardises the people’s struggle will take us backwards. Every backwardness in the struggle will grossly affect the actualisation and restoration of Biafra. The nature of Biafra struggle and international view and diplomatic approach towards Biafra restoration is overbearing of numerous internal and external interest that borders on economical, political, religious, social and diplomatic interest”.

Continuing, he said, “Having seen that Biafra and her people are strategically positioned to influence the affairs of future worldwide polity, the agitators of Biafra actualisation and restoration must be extremely careful about our approach towards Biafra actualisation and restoration.

“MASSOB as a leading figure of current Biafra agitation advice other pro Biafra groups including IPOB that Igbo political leaders are not the major obstacle of our chances of achieving independence from Nigeria state, the major hurdles militating against the freedom of Biafra people from Nigeria is non cohesion and brotherhood among the leaders of leading pro Biafra groups. The tendency of superiority complex on ideology and the spirit of lordship over others are the detrimental tendencies grossly affecting the freedom of Biafrans.

“Ike Ekweremadu and other perceived and alleged enemies of Biafra are not our major obstacle against Biafra. IPOB can never actualise Biafra alone, neither MASSOB, LNC, BNC, BIM, EPC, BILLIE Human Rights Initiatives and others operating individually can achieve Biafra alone. Biafra will be more achievable when a strong coalition of  MASSOB, IPOB, Lower Niger Congress, BNC, BIM and others from Niger Delta regions are established under a collegiate leadership.

“The tendency of grooming authoritarian leadership under any guise in Igbo land and Biafra in general will never be tolerated because the republican nature of Igbo man does not allow such authoritative and empirical rulership.

“MASSOB also condemns the directives to attack the governors of Southeast. Consciously attacking a governor will never give us Biafra but will continue sending our youths to untimely deaths because every attack on a governor will attract the trigger happy Hausa Fulani security agents in Igbo land to open fire on our defenceless youths. Tomorrow, they will say governors ordered the killings of IPOB members.

“MASSOB calls and extend a hand of fellowship to IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, BIM led by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, BNC led Alhaji Dokubo Asari and other pro Biafra groups to rally together in the true spirit of Biafra and defend Biafra land from the Fulani invaders and marauders. The era of propagandas and talking on radio / newspaper have gone, people’s opinions on social media will never give us Biafra. Let’s unite and confront our common enemy. Though our governors and other leaders are not assisting the Biafra struggle, we can engage them traditionally, not insulting them”.

In Anambra State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Damian Okeke-Ogene, said they stood behind the President General of the organisation who had already issued a statement on the matter.

Speaking to our correspondent on phone, Okeke-Ogene said, “I can’t say any other thing outside what our President General, Chief Dr. Nnia Nwodo had said.

“It’s a national issue and whatever the President General says is our position.”

Civil Liberties Organisation, Anambra State chapter has asked the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to tender unreserved apology to former deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu over Saturday’s attack in Germany.

It noted that the ugly incident was a practical demonstration of the assertion that “Igbos do not have kings.”

Chairman of the body, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, in a statement on Wednesday in Onitsha, described the attack as disgraceful to the Igbo race.

He said, “The attitude of the perpetrators is most despicable, condemnable, barbaric, inhuman and horrendous.

“Ekweremadu is supposed to be applauded, commended and reciprocated considering his sacrifices towards protecting and projecting Igbo interest.”

He insisted that the Igbos in diaspora must learn how to be civil, dynamic, diplomatic and tactful.

According to him, any disagreement with their leaders should be amicably resolved with respect rather than toying the part of violence.

“If they have any disagreement with their political leaders, it must be resolved amicably with respect, corrections, not condemnation or violence.

“Like Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu would say, “Violence is the worst form of irresponsibility,” he added.

Ezekwueme enjoined the lawmaker to borrow a leaf from what Sen. Robert Thadt did in America by extending love and forgiveness to his attackers.

In Enugu State, a former chairman Ohanaeze Youth wing, Ikechukwu Bismarck Oji lashed out at the IPOB leader.

“Why have we allowed Nnamdi Kanu to con us all?” he asked. “The motive of the Nuremberg show of shame was not about fighting corruption or bad governance. No, Nnamdi Kanu leveraged on that to do a hatchet job on Ekweremadu. In fact, as a master of the game, he guessed right. Nigerians, not just Ndigbo’s gullibility and resentment of their political class, will make his action popular and stop most people from reading between the lines.

Oji had stern questions for Kanu:

“Why accuse Ekweremadu of inviting Python Dance when all available evidence shows he openly opposed same?

“Why accuse him of taking ICC President Chilo Osuji to Aso Rock for Buhari to bribe him?

“Why accuse innocent people of joining to invite Python Dance? All the people mentioned are known to me and they bitterly denied it. Imagine accusing 84-year-old Arthur Nwankwo, one of those Nnamdi Kanu himself paid visited after his release from Kuje [prison], a man who has not been attending meetings for long based on health challenges. What of Archbishop Chukwuma and Dr Joe Nwaorgu, men who are arch-Buhari/APC enemies? Yet, IPOB said they also supported Python Dance.

“Imagine his sustained attack on Chief  Nnia Nwodo, a charismatic leader who paid his dues in the Igbo struggle, long ago. A born activist who never pulls his punches. Rather, like Dr Jo Nwaorgu, another elder Nnamdi Kanu accused of “begging Abba Kyari to bring on Python Dance”, Nwodo tells you to your Face if he hates. When Nnamdi Kanu visited Nwodo after his release from Kuje, the author of this epistle facilitated it through Uche Okwukwu and Law Mefor. Why smear such a man? Ndigbo, have we ever drawn back from our present “mob mode” to ask ourselves a simple question: How many years does it take to build a leader who the world contends with? How many years does it take to build an Nnia Nwodo or an Ekweremadu?

“Why has IPOB not gone after the Fulani terror herdsmen with their BSS (Biafran Security Services)?

“What social service is IPOB rendering to Ndigbo? In its heyday, MASSOB organized her members to keep Aba clean by clearing blocked drainages

“An uncoordinated revolution can be worse than no revolution. If IPOB wants a revolution, why did they not organise  #revolutionnow protests in the East?”

“No doubt, Nnamdi Kanu is a hero, he did the undoable. However, he needs to retrace his steps so as to stop destroying the much needed Igbo unity of purpose. For Biafra to work, he needs to consult Brother Asari Dokubo who is doing much work with less noise by getting the various peoples of the then Biafra to sign unto a United States of Biafra. Just as Prof Phillip Effiong, Jnr said earlier this month in Enugu, “Biafra is not an Igbo Project, we are all part of Biafra and we all suffered for it”

A a tricycle operator in Enugu, Sinclair Igwenagu Justified the order by the IPOB leader to his followers to attack Igbo leaders visiting foreign countries.

He said, “The Igbo leaders especially those in political offices have sold out Ndigbo to the Fulani. They are the ones making it impossible for Biafra to be achieved. Just because of political office, they will not support a project that will benefit them and their children’s children.

Nnamdi Kanu is doing the right thing. He is going the right direction. And we are following him. I will like the order to attack Igbo leaders visiting foreign countries to be extended to those who have investments in Nigeria outside Igboland.  Those are the real obstacles to achievement of Biafra because of their huge investments in other parts of Nigeria. They are not willing to lose their investment and return to Biafra. As long as these people continue to exist the Biafra dream will never come true.”

A teacher who simply gave his name as Ugwu sees the order with mixed feelings.

“I will support whatever nonviolent action that will lead to the realisation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Biafra. I am against attacking our leaders visiting abroad. Let the IPOB chaps consider adopting diplomatic approach to the issue. Becoming violent will not do any good to the image of the Igbo people. And it will give credence to the tag of terrorist group given to IPOB by the Nigerian government.

Again Nnamdi Kanu should know that many Igbo leaders actually have the interest of Ndigbo. He should try and identify the particular ones who are saboteurs. He should not just see every Igbo leader or those that do not support his approach as detractors. For example what they did to Senator Ekweremadu was wrong. Ekweremadu is the best performing senator from the South east. He has done a lot for his people and he is still doing. Let Nnamdi Kanu and his members be cautious otherwise their approach will spell a doom on the Biafra agitation’’.

  • PDP chief: Nnamdi Kanu a coward

A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain has described threats by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to attack Southeast governors as cowardly and an act of desperation.

PDP Chairman in Ebonyi State Onyekachi Nwebonyi, in a statement on Monday, said Kanu was not a freedom fighter but a businessman out to make money from Igbo politicians and businessmen.

He said real freedom fighters don’t run away but stay and fight to achieve their aim.

The statement reads: “The threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to attack governors of the Southeast, and particularly Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi, whenever they travel abroad is punk and cowardly.

“It is a threat out of desperation by people who thought they could use the Biafra agenda for self enrichment. Unfortunately, the shenanigan did not pay off on the home front, though the Igbo in the Diaspora fall prey.

“IPOB is not fighting for the actualisation of Biafra and the name of the organisation suggests no such objective. Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the group, is just out to make money from Igbo politicians and businessmen. He had thought he would get the governors and other politicians in the Southeast to fund his activities but that was not happening. His recent approach of attacking Igbo politicians who travel abroad arose from that unmet expectation.

“He is not genuine in his agitation. There are valiant men at home who could support him if he is genuine, but he chose to rely on miscreants whom he can easily deceive. If Nnamdi Kanu is a genuine freedom fighter, he should have taken a cue from notable freedom fighters, some of who paid the supreme price for their cause. Kanu should have stayed back to press home his demand for the emancipation of the marginalised people of Biafra. That is why I call him a coward. He should also remember that Igbo are not the only people of Biafra.

“And again, mentioning the governor of Ebonyi State for attack abroad shows that what the group wants is far from the emancipation of Igbo people. It is laughable that instead of Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB to direct their vengeance of the Operation Python Dance 2 towards President Muhammadu Buhari and the Army, they ungratefully and cowardly chose to attack the very persons who ensured Kanu was released from prison. That is really cowardly and barbaric.

“Governor Umahi does not junket foreign lands ignoring his people. The transformation he has given Ebonyi State clearly shows that if all the governors of the Southeast had acted in the same way over the years, the region would have been a destination of some sort by now.”

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (ONYC) says IPOB has lost the Igbo consciousness.

Read Also: Nnamdi Kanu: A continuing tragedy

It said IPOB’s bid to have a candidate from Northeast win the 2019 presidential election, which was not met, emboldened its anger against Igbo governors.

A statement yesterday by Ohanaeze’s Deputy President-General Obinna Achionye, reads: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide will expose all the commercial activities of IPOB, as it has done more damage to Ndigbo than it appears to salvage the situation the Igbo currently find themselves since 2015.

“IPOB lost Igbo consciousness before the 2019 elections as it was doing the political bid of politicians outside Igbo land, which they started with a Northeast presidential candidate. IPOB’s popularity before the 2019 elections waned when it destroyed its members’ Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and plotted the fall of Governors David Umahi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu.

“We urge the Southeast governors to disregard any kangaroo committee set up to interface between them and the IPOB. There is no reason for a backyard settlement until IPOB openly apologises to Ndigbo.

“When the Southeast governors called its bluff over its antics, IPOB connived with enemies of Igbo to stage a failed revolution protest which was unsuccessful in the region. Now, they have resorted to a violent approach to do the bidding of a presidential hopeful from outside Igboland to bring down all presidential hopefuls in Igboland ahead of 2023.

“We know how a former minister from Anambra State persuaded a northern presidential candidate to use IPOB’s nuisance to hoodwink Igbo into voting for the politician after visiting Nnamdi Kanu in Israel. Nevertheless, we urge Southeast governors not to negotiate with Nnamdi Kanu. Their blackmail and settlement strategies are dead on arrival.”

  • IPOB: Lawyer files Criminal Complaint against Kanu, Seeks Arrest Warrant

A criminal complaint has been lodged against the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the International Criminal Court in Hague.

In the complaint, the ICC was also asked to order his arrest and prosecution.

Mr. Thomas Carroll of GAYLORD POPP, LLC, acting on behalf of the Incorporated Trustees of Make Nigeria Better Initiative (MNBI), in the criminal complaint dated 2nd September, 2019, said the IPOB issued a threat to attack President Mohammadu Buhari, during his visit to Japan to attend the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development, holding in the City of Yokohama, Japan from August 28-30, 2019.

According to MNBI, apart from the recent physical attack carried out by the group against former Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, by IPOB in Nuremberg, Germany, acting on the orders of the accused, similar threats have also been issued against the five south east governors, including Governors David Umahi of Ebonyi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

IPOB also put on notice Ndigbo leaders such as the President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, whom it accused of supporting “Operation Python Dance” which was launched by the Nigerian Army in the South-East in 2016 in the wake of protests by IPOB members who were causing havoc and forcefully demanding secession from Nigeria.

In the criminal complaint, MNBI prayed the court for the following request:

    “That the ICC Prosecutor opens an investigation of the Accused on her own accord under Article 15 (1) of the Rome Statute;

    ” That the ICC Prosecutor also formally “submit to the Pre-Trial Chamber of the ICC a request for authorization of an investigation” of the Accused under Article 15 (3) of the Rome Statute;

“That the ICC Prosecutor obtain International Arrest Warrant for the Accused from the ICC in accordance with Articles 58 (1) (a), 58 (1) (b) (i), 58 (1) (b) (ii) and 58 (1) (b) (iii) and proceed to arrest the Accused from wherever he is hiding so he can face their trial.

“That the ICC Prosecutor compels the Accused upon conviction under the Rome Statute to pay the sum of $1,000,000,000 (One Billion US Dollars) as punitive damages for causing death, injury and maiming of several Nigerians through his acts of terrorism.

“That the ICC Prosecutor compels the British Government to expeditiously begin the process of cancelling the citizenship of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, entering an Exclusion Decision and or Order barring him from all territories of the United Kingdom so he can return to Nigeria and face his treasonable felony trial pending before Honourable Justice (Mrs.) Binta Nyako sitting at the Federal High Court, Abuja.”

  • South-East Govs dare Kanu over threat against Igbo leaders

South-East Governors have issued a stern warning to Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over his threats to attack them and other South-East leaders abroad.

The Governors, in a statement on Tuesday night, said should Kanu make his threat real, they would by all means repatriate him back to Nigeria to face the wrath of the people.

The statement was signed by its chairman and Governor of Ebonyi State,David Umahi.

Senator Ike Ekweremmadu was at the weekend assaulted in Nuremberg Germany where he was invited as keynote Speaker and special guest of honour at the occasion of annual new yam festival and convention of Ndigbo in Germany.

Few minutes after the attack, IPOB claimed responsibility in a statement by its spokesperson,Emma Powerful.

This was also followed by a broadcast by Kanu through the group’s rogue Radio station, Radio Biafra, in which he also corroborated the earlier statement and maintained that the Southeast Governors and other Igbo politicians must receive Ekweremmadu’s treatment any time they are seen in public abroad.

The attack on Ekweremadu by IPOB has received condemnation from all quarters and South-East Governors in the statement described the attack by IPOB as a display of shame and ignorance.

The Governors said they have noted the threats by Kanu who they alleged is fighting for his self interest but pretending to be fighting for Ndigbo and would soonest expose him if he doesn’t retrace his steps.

They said if Kanu is serious let him direct his members whom he claimed live in over 100 countries to fight the foreign killer herdsmen in those countries.

The statement reads: “South-East Governors are saddened with the ugly display and dance of shame by IPOB in Germany in attacking one of the finest leaders of Ndigbo, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu. We totally condemn it as we weep for them as they never knew the implication of their naked dance in public.

“We have also noted the empty threats by Mr. Nnamdi Kanu (a former ordinary Member of MASSOB) to attack Governors of South-East, Ohanaeze leadership and other Igbo politicians for not supporting the self-acclaimed supreme leader in his self-fight for the raw power and wealth while pretending to be fighting for Ndigbo.

“We wish to warn that should any Southeast person be attacked anywhere in the world, we shall, by all means, bring back Kanu to Nigeria to face the wrath of our people. It is madness for anyone who wants raw power with no experience to think that we Governors will support the killing of our people giving out our scarce land to herdsmen.

“If Kanu is serious, let him direct IPOB to fight those foreign killer herdsmen in their countries of origin since he claims the IPOB is in over 100 countries in the world.

“If Kanu who was previously in MASSOB but needed power and money wants Biafra and he is the self-acclaimed supreme leader, let him come back home with his army and guns to lead us to battle for the empire he desire to lead other than cheap talks. Soonest Ndigbo will know him better.

The Governors, however, assured the people of the region that they would continue to protect them against killer herdsmen and other insecurity; and won’t be distracted by cheap talks.

“We assure our people that we are doing so much to protect them against killer herdsmen and other insecurity problems. We have also been kidnapping and cultism in the Southeast to near zero level.

“We are highly committed to the security and well-being of our people and will never be distracted by cheap talks”, the said.

  • IPOB targets Southeast governors, Nwodo, Buratai for attacks abroad

PROSCRIBED separatist group Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) is targeting Southeast governors, Ohanaeze President Nnia Nwodo, Chief of Army Staff (COAS)  Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai for attacks abroad, its leader Nnamdi Kanu, said on Sunday.

He also offered a reward of N1 million for credible information on overseas travel itinerary of the governors and Igbo leaders.

He gave reasons the group attacked Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Germany at the weekend.

Kanu spoke in an 87 minutes broadcast on the rogue radio station, Radio Biafra, last night. The broadcast was monitored by our correspondent.

He said a member of the group had made the money available for credible information anytime the governors of the Southeast and other leaders from the zone would be travelling.

“So, if you are working in any Government House in Southeast and you know which city in the world the governor is going to be, inform us so that we will mobilise for him and you will be rewarded with N1 million”

He accused the governors of being behind the proscription of IPOB. “They said they proscribed IPOB to douse rising tension in the region. What caused the tension is because the military raided my house in Umuahia”

He also accused them of secretly approving the RUGA settlement in the Southeast.

On the attack on Mr Ekweremadu, the IPOB leader said the ex-Deputy Senate President connived with the governors to proscribed his group.

“They also brought the army to raid my House in Umuahia. How many times has he spoken against the killings and kidnapping happening in his own state?” queried Mr Kanu.

“He (Ekweremadu) went to celebrate New Yam Festival in Germany when his people are being killed and our women being raped. Where did they get the tubers of yam because there is none in Igboland since all the farmlands have been destroyed by herdsmen”.

The IPOB leader also accused Ekweremadu of misappropriating money budgeted for the construction of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway by former President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The Nation could not independently verify his accusations against Ekweremadu.

Apart from the governors, Kanu listed others on the group’s overseas watch list to include Ohaneze Ndigbo President-General Nwodo and Lt.-Gen. Buratai.

Kanu said that Nwodo accused Igbo Youths of carrying out the recent killings, kidnappings and other criminal activities in the Southeast, especially in Enugu State.

For the COAS Buratai, Kanu said the group will never forgive him for his role in various killings and atrocities allegedly committed by the military in the southeast

He warned them to steer clear of any foreign country for their own good.

“We have nominated five persons each in every country of the world who are ready to be arrested and be jailed for this purpose. Many of us have been killed so what is there in going to jail”, he said.

He praised the outspokenness of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Mr. Femi Fani- Kayode.

“We campaigned for Abaribe’s re-election because he always spoke the truth every time about what is happening in the country and today he is the highest political office holder in Igboland”

“Fani Kayode is not an Igbo man but he always stands for the truth and so we have enormous respect for him”.

Kanu also claimed that the military is beginning another Operation Python Dance in the Southeast (Monday) which is targeted at his group.

  • IPOB’s attack order on us empty threat-Southeast govs

South east governors have dismissed the order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on its members to attack them on sight anywhere in overseas as empty threat.

IPOB founder Nnamdi Kanu had given a matching order to its members across the world to attack the Governors of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and Anambra States anywhere they are seen.

This order was 24 hours after former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu was attacked by members of the group in Germany.

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, in a statement on Sunday evening said: ““They have no such spread and powers to track down South-East governors for attack anywhere in the world. They are too small.

“I don’t want to say they sound so cowardly but they can’t see the governors to attack.”

He pointed out the group’s Biafra dream cannot be actualized without the governors.

Umahi, who doubles as Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, said they had no problem with the group to warrant such an order.

He added the insecurity in the region was a nationwide challenge which was under the Federal Government’s command and control.

While condemning the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Umahi said: “If there is any issue IPOB holds against the governors, they should come home to settle it in Igboland instead of a foreign land.

“What happened was a security issue which was within the purview of the Federal Government.

“Attacking governors in a foreign land is a wild goose chase. We love them because they are our children.

“IPOB cannot achieve Biafra alone, except with the collaboration of all stakeholders including the governors. They don’t need to attack the governors to achieve Biafra.”

The governors’ forum warned members of the IPOB not to allow political opportunists to use them to destroy the South-East region.

“They should come together and work with the governors and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to achieve the Igbo Presidency come 2023 instead of fighting the governors.

“We want them to be close to us instead of taking the struggle to the international arena.”
