    NSCDC’S ‘My oga at the top’ Obafaiye promoted Deputy Commandant-General

    A senior officer, Shem Obafaiye has been decorated by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as Deputy Commandant-General for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    The Nation learnt Obafaiye was decorated alongside two of his colleagues — Fasiu Adeyinka, ex-Kwara commandant; and Raji, former Imo commandant; as deputy commandants-general.

    In 2013, Obafaiye became a popular figure in Nigeria after a famous interview aired on Channels Television.

    NSCDC had replaced Obafaiye as the Lagos State Commandant of the outfit. Clement Adesuyi, from the Oyo State Command, took over from him.

    His problem began when he was asked to state the NSCDC’s website for members of the public who would like to get information about the agency.

    He said: “The one (website) that we are going to make use of is going to be made known by my Oga at the top. Yes. I can’t announce one now, and my Oga says it’s another one that we are going to use,

    “If you want to know about NSCDC as at now. Ok, www.nscdc…. That’s all.”

    The interview, compressed into a 1 minute 8 seconds video, went viral on social media, with music DJs spinning off a ‘remix’ of the interview and shirts with the ‘Oga at the top’ insignia’ retailed on online shops.

    Announcing the promotion, Tunji-Ojo tweeted: “As the chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), I decorated the three new Deputy Commandants General of the @official_NSCDC today.”

    NSCDC operatives arrest five oil thieves in Imo

    Operatives of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested five suspects in connection with oil theft in Imo State.

    The Corps said its men intercepted and arrested the suspects while conveying large quantities of suspected illegally refined and adulterated AGO, at Obah Agwa Autonomous Community, Oguta Ohaji LGA of Imo state.

    The suspects were in four saloon cars containing large quantities of suspected illegally refined AGO, tied in twin cellophane bags and inserted in sacks, said the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Babawale Afolabi.

    Afolabi explained in a statement that preliminary investigation revealed that they usually buy the suspected illegally refined AGO at the Abacheke Axis of Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State before being loaded into salon cars for onward transportation and distribution to Onitsha, Anambra and its environs.

    He gave their names as David Thankgod Orokpo, Alex Okafor Chigozie, Ngwoli Kingsley, Johnson Essien Unyime, and David Gregory Akombo.

    Afolabi said: “The exhibit recovered includes; One Black Toyota Camry, with registration number Ebonyi AKL-552AE, filled with about 600 litres of suspected adulterated AGO.

    “One Ash Toyota Camry with registration number Benue BGT-564AA, filled with about 1,250 litres of suspected adulterated AGO.

    “One Sky-blue Toyota Avalon with registration number Lagos APP-150CJ, filled with about 600 litres of suspected adulterated AGO, One Moniepoint  POS machine.

    “One Black Toyota Avalon with registration number Rivers SKN-291DC filled with about 1,400 litres of suspected adulterated AGO, #222,500 cash and another #15,000 cash.”

    Nasarawa govt donates safe schools response centre to NSCDC

    Nasarawa state government has donated a fully equipped Safe Schools Response Centre to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for its operations to enable it to forestall any planned attacks on Schools by bandits, terrorists, and other criminals.  

    The government also flagged off a Safe Schools Project and called for concerted efforts from the Private sector to drive the initiative.

    The donation was announced in a statement by the public relations officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Babawale Afolabi.

    Babawale said the state governor, Abdullahi Sule donated the centre during a one-day sensitisation workshop for strategic stakeholders in the north-central geopolitical zone.

    He said Governor Sule spoke in appreciation of the activities of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) and the Safe Schools Programme in Nigeria as spearheaded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    He said the governor, represented by his Deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, described the protection of education as a collective responsibility by all and sundry and encouraged residents of the state to collaborate with security agencies to ensure the maximum success of the Safe Schools implementation project.

    The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, in his remarks, stated that the menace of violence and attacks on schools in Nigeria has spanned over a decade.

    According to him, the ugly spate of attacks on education manifested in the destruction of facilities, disrupting schools, and keeping children out of schools. He lamented that the situation has created unpalatable consequences which no one should allow to continue.

    Audi said: “The centre does not function in isolation from other security agencies but serves as a coordinating agent, also collaborating with all security agencies and other relevant stakeholders with the Federal and State Ministry of Education, and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) as major partners.

    “I want to clear certain doubts and misgivings about the responsibility of the Centre and to re-emphasize the fact that the Centre is operating on the principles of a whole-of-society approach. To this effect, both federal, state, and local governments are being engaged as partners in progress.”

    NSCDC intercepts stolen crude in Imo

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted stolen crude oil from oil thieves and suspected vandals in the Ogiata local government area of Imo state.

    The spokesman of the Corps, Babawale Afolabi said products seized from the vandals have been burnt by NSCDC operatives who destroyed their makeshift storage facilities and warehouses located inside the forest.

    Afolabi said the vandals took to their heels and abandoned the products on sighting the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad which had made Imo state and its environs hot for oil thieves and vandals within the past two months.

    He said: “I want to inform you again that on the 24th of November, 2023, the vigilant and eagle-eyed special intelligence squad of the NSCDC was able to detect and intercept another large quantity of vandalized and stolen adulterated crude oil believed to have been siphoned from a vandalized wellhead belonging to a multinational oil company and located at Nkwuogologo Area in Ogiata LGA, Imo State.

    “The NSCDC swiftly moved to the riverine location where many drums filled with adulterated crude oil were discovered.”

    According to him, the criminal elements took to their heels and abandoned the stolen products.

    Afolabi said: “The operatives were able to impound all the stolen crude oil which was subsequently destroyed by setting them on fire.

    “In the meantime, the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubabakar Audi, has been briefed on the development and has ordered a massive manhunt for the vandals who are at large.

    “The Commandant General wishes to reiterate the readiness of the corps not to relent on the effort to rid the society of the oil thieves, especially in the Niger Delta region adding that the Corps is battle ready to achieve huge success.”

    NSCDC beefs up security in Katsina as proposed abduction fails

    Dr. Ahmed Audi has ordered a massive deployment of officers and men of the corps in and around schools and forests in Katsina State. 

    The move was designed to forestall likely further attacks by bandits on schools,  farms and other settlements in the State. 

    Reports from Katsina indicated that on Thursday bandits stormed a village near the permanent site of the Federal University, Dutsinma,  Katsina State, to abduct a large number of farmers and women. 

    The swift response of the NSCDC operatives stationed in the university premises as part of the Safe School Initiative measures thwarted the planned attempt of the bandits to kidnap farmers from neighbouring communities.

    According to the Public Relations Officer of the Corps,  Babawale Afolabi,  armed bandits arrived on 10 motorcycles and initially abducted six people but were resisted by operatives  of the NSCDC. 

    He said in a statement that the resistance of the men of the NSCDC led to the rescue of three women while the bandits took away two men and one boy from Yarrumfa village. 

    “In the meantime, the operatives of the NSCDC with the support of the local vigilante groups are currently combing the forest to rescue the abducted victims and rid the forest of the bandits. 

    “The Commandant  General has also ordered the Katsina State Command to collaborate with sister agencies and synergize with the university authorities, Nigeria Army and the police to work together to thwart any further planned attacks,”  Afolabi said.

    NSCDC operatives arrest crude oil thieves in Rivers State

    The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested two crude oil thieves in the Onelga local government area of Rivers state.

    The operatives who belong to the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) acted on a tip-off to effect the arrest of the suspects at a rented apartment around Egbede area of Onelga council area of Rivers State, our Correspondent gathered from the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.

    According to the Public Relations officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, the suspects along with some youths in the Ebocha community were operating illegal refineries where they cook or refine stolen petroleum products.

    The public relations officer said: “They planned to cook/ refine and extract AGO/ diesel) from the illegal refinery.

    “But acting swiftly after getting the intelligent tip the Special Intelligence Squad swung into action and were able to apprehend two key suspects namely Joseph Peter, 43, from Delta State, and Evans Okorie, 36, from Imo State at their hideouts.”

    He said the Corps operatives recovered a motorcycle, eight illegal refineries (also known as cooking pots) within different locations, a welding tongue, a bottle of crude oil, a list containing names of accomplices, and a multinational oil company’s truck line points from the gang.

    “The seized illegal refineries, also known as cooking pots were destroyed, (since they could not be moved) immediately under the supervision of well-documented video coverage while the two suspects and exhibits were in custody at NSCDC headquarters in Abuja

    “In their separate confessional statements, both suspects admitted to running illegal refineries.

    “The first suspect, Joseph Peter confessed to his deep involvement in running an illegal refinery and also mentioned Jeff and Biggi as his accomplices. Those are still at large.

    “Evans Okorie, the other arrested suspect also mentioned his cohorts as; Nkenji, Bethel, and Sylvester. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices.

    “In the meantime, the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, would like to restate the commitment and resolute readiness of the Corps to end the nefarious activities of crude oil theft, illegal dealings in petroleum products, and oil pipeline vandalism.”

    Afolabi said the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of a thorough investigation ordered by the Commandant General.

    NSCDC vows to end crude oil theft as Navy arrests six suspects in Anambra

    The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra state command has restated its resolve to end the menace of crude oil theft, illegal dealings on petroleum products, and oil pipeline vandalism in the State.

    The state commandant, Edwin Osuala, stated this in Awka, on Tuesday, November 14, shortly after receiving six suspects apprehended by officers of the Nigerian Navy, Onitsha Outpost.

    Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, Okadigbo Edwin, in a statement, said the suspects were handed over to the NSCDC command for further investigation and prosecution.

    The statement read: “On the 03/11/2023, at about 06:00hrs, one Ugwu Donatus ‘m’ aged 57yrs, Chukwudi Eke ‘m’ aged 52yrs and one Nwabueze Daniel ‘m’ aged 30yrs respectively, were arrested along Atani Road, Odekpe Community in Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State while conveying 70 sack bags of petroleum products, estimated about 3,500 litres of suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil in a white Nissan vehicle with registration no: Enugu ENU 391 XX.

    “Similarly, on November 7, 2023, at about 13:00hrs, one Chinedu Okafor ‘m’ aged 32yrs, Abu Galaddima ‘m’ aged 42yrs, and Rishamah Abbass ‘m’ aged 29yrs, respectively were arrested within Odekpe Community in Ogbaru LGA with two white J5 Vans with registration nos: Anambra XA 929 ZBL and Anambra AWK 776 YZ and laden with 100 sack bags of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil estimated to be about 5,000 litres.”

    Osuala disclosed that preliminary investigations carried out suggested that the products loaded at Osssamala Community in Ogbaru LGA were headed to Upper Iweka before their final destination.

    He also explained that one Emeka Emeka who is alleged to be the owner of the products is currently at large, adding that sustained monitoring is in place to arrest him.

    The NSCDC boss said all the arrested suspects are assisting the command with useful information that will help in arresting their accomplices.

    He, however, lauded the Navy for the arrest saying that the synergy between the NSCDC and the Navy had yielded many results in the fight against economic crimes in the country.

    He said: “I want to commend the Nigerian Navy for assisting the Corps being the lead agency in the protection of critical national assets and the eradication of illegal dealings on petroleum products. With the successful handover of these suspects and the exhibits to us, we would immediately launch a credible investigation.

    “We are assuring the Navy and members of the public that proper investigation would be carried out on the suspects and any other culprits involved with the case for possible prosecution.

    “The handing over of the suspects and the exhibits to the NSCDC is a sign that security agencies operating in Anambra State are united in crime fighting. This synergy is what is needed to wage a full-scale war against the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

    “I want to advise these economic saboteurs to steer clear of Anambra State because we have activated our operational mechanism in all the nooks and crannies of the state to make this place hot for them to operate. They should either look for legitimate business to engage in or turn a new leaf.”

    While warning perpetrators of oil theft, illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism, and other criminal activities to relocate outside the state, Osuala advised the public to be vigilant and provide the Command with credible information to assist in curbing activities of criminal elements and economic saboteurs.

    NSCDC chief confirms killing of four officers in Rivers

    The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),  Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has vowed to fish out killers of four corps’ operatives in Rivers State.

    Audi, who spoke in Port Harcourt during his visit to Rivers State to condole with the families of the deceased, charged the personnel to be resolute saying there should be no compromise in the ongoing war against oil theft.

    The victims were killed by unknown gunmen at Alakiri, Degema local Government Area of Rivers state.

    Audi said the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, sympathised with the deceased families insisting that the blood of the officers would not be a waste.

    He said: “Let me first of all condole with you as a Command and the families of our gallant men who lost their lives some few days ago while on official duty. This is part of the hazards of the job and we pray that God would grant the families the fortitude to hear the loss.

    “I bring to you the message of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who has asked me to tell you that the blood of these gallant men will not be a waste. All hands are on deck as the Corps would contact their next of kin to process necessary benefits in order to serve as a succour to the families.

    “I will not reveal to the public our operational strategies in order to bring the perpetrators to book but definitely we are in collaboration with Sister Security Agencies and I assure you that Justice will be served.”

    Imo Guber: Voters’ security assured – NSCDC CG

    Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship Election in Imo, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Audi has assured the electorate of their maximum security.

     The C-G gave the assurance when he addressed the 4,650 men and officers of the NSCDC deployed to Imo for the election, in Owerri on Friday.

    Audi urged the voters to come out en masse and exercise their franchise, assuring, “ all necessary arrangements have been concluded for a successful election.

    “ We are confidently ready to provide safety and security for this election and we urge Imo residents to freely exercise their franchise. Our men are everywhere.”

    Audi described elections as one of the tenets of democracy and advised the electorate to play by the rules of the game.

    He, however, advised his officers to remain non partisan and reject all forms of aggrandisement from politicians and their supporters.

    Audi further said that the corps would synergise with other security agencies to ensure adequate protection of the electorate,  electoral materials and personnel of INEC.

     He warned those planning to perpetrate violence on the election day to desist from such heinous motives, vowing, ”they will be made to face the full weight of the law.”
