  • Allege N6b in private account: NSCDC chief debunks rumour

The Commandant-General (CG) of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu yesterday debunked rumours on the money allegedly found in his private account.

An online report last Tuesday reported that N6 billion was allegedly traced to his account in a new generation bank by the anti-graft agencies.

The NSCDC chief disclosed that since assumption of office in July 2015 till date, the budgetary allocation released to the Corps: “has never been up to N7 billion but rumor mongers are concocting stories that N6 billion was found in his account which is fallacious and highly unimaginable.”

Muhammadu reacted to the allegation while briefing his officers on the rate of kidnapping along Abuja-Kaduna axis.

A statement in Abuja by the NSCDC spokesman, Emmanuel Okeh said: “Muhammadu stated further that, the mischieve makers posited that the alleged money was meant for staff that were promoted two years ago.

‘’This is not possible because the government in this era cannot allow such huge amount of money to be paid into a private account when it is meant for an agency.”

However, the Corps helmsman who is an anti-corruption crusader said: ‘’In this dispensation where payment is done centrally through  the CBN e-payment process, how can one person move such an amount of money to a private account without been conscious of the fact that bubble will burst.”

The statement went further: “It is worthy of note that Muhammadu upon resumption of office in 2015, put in place mechanism to guarantee welfare of the personnel by maintaining an open door policy, setting up a public complaint desk, strengthening the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit and the Anti-Fraud Units for the purpose of transparency and for personnel to channel their grievances, make inquiry and have their complain treated.

“The CG, upon receiving complaints about the stoppage of personnel shifts allowances, which was done before his assumption of office, quickly set machineries in motion to restore the payment of the shift allowance and arrears to the delight of all personnel.”

“Similarly, on the issue of promotion carried out tow years ago before his appointment, it should be pointed out that the funds released by the government were insufficient to cater for the upgrade.”

NSCDC, VSO partnership ’ll check cultism, kidnapping in Ogun, say Amosun,Commandant

Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Friday said the synergy between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) and the Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO) would strengthen crime prevention and combating effort in the state.

Amosun who spoke at the conclusion of a “Sensitization Course on Grassroot Operation” for members of the VSO at the NSCDC’s College of Security Management, Abeokuta,  the Ogun State capital, was represented by the Commissioner, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko.

The Governor noted that his administration takes the issues of security of lives and properties seriously, saying this informed why the VSO was established in 2011 to complement the efforts of other security agencies and make the state safe for living and businesses.

The Provost of the College, Commandant Awosusi  Oluwasefunmi, urged the participants to put to practice all that have been imparted into them during the trainings.

Awosusi said the training was meant to equip  the VSO officers with the skills required to enhance  efficiency in the discharge of their duty as well as work in  partnership with the NSCDC Operatives to “curb the menace of cultism, child abuse, kidnapping, vandalism, drugs abuse and other vice” in Ogun communities.

Speaking with journalists at the occasion, the Assistant Commandant General, NSCDC, Southwest and Lagos, Poopola Waheed, hailed the initiative, saying the synergy between NSCDC, VSO and among other sister agencies would help secure Ogun and make  residents sleep with two eyes closed.

  • UTME: NSCDC arrests five fraudsters

Five persons were yesterday arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for various infractions in the ongoing registration exercise for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared.

JAMB said the fraudsters were allegedly apprehended from various locations across the nation where they were perpetrating nefarious activities.

Its spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, in a statement in Abuja, said some of the fraudsters are owners of Computer Based test centres.

He said: “In the presence of the Commandant General, NSCDC Abdullah Mohamadu, the fraudsters confessed to numerous registration infractions that the Board couldn’t imagine.

“Some of these registration thieves are Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres owners licensed by JAMB to conduct registration exercise for the candidates planning to take the forthcoming UTME.

“More worrisome is the massive investment by E- Kindle CBT centres to penetrate the airtel system we are using to perpetrate all forms of wholesome practices.

“They register candidates without proper biometric which means such candidates will have problems with their details during examination if not corrected immediately.

“From investigation at the headquarters of the NSCDC, it was clear that they had powerful men backing them to thwart the efforts of JAMB.

“If not, how will you justify them spending over N20 million to construct a radio platform just to hack into the Board’s registration exercise if not to destroy the entire system and put JAMB in bad light?”

Benjamin claimed the perpetrators confessed to have spent over N20 million on the construction of a radio platform with which they hacked into the registration exercise of JAMB.

  • Herdsmen/farmers clash: NSCDC proposes agro-rangers security unit

Following unending killings in the country as a result of clashes between the Fulani herdsman and farmers, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is set to tackle the menace with the formation of an agro-rangers security unit.

But the development, according to the Commandant General (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, will be with the approval of the federal government.

Muhammadu in an exclusive interview with, The Nation disclosed that the proposal is to start with about 300 officers.

The NSCDC boss, who expressed sadness over the incessant killing, vowed that: “We have heard enough of this crisis between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers all over the country. So many killings have taken place with destruction of farmlands and this cannot continue.”

His words: “We are trying to make sure that we live up to date as far as security issue is concerned.”

“I have visited one of the farms in the north and what I saw on ground was amazing. The man has invested over N5 billion on the farm and he has abandoned everything because of insecurity. So we have assured them that proper security will be put in place. We are charged to do more in the area of critical infrastructure.”

On the welfare of officers and men of the Corps, Muhammadu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government over the 100 percent life insurance, but decried the movement from the various MDAs to the Head of Service, saying payment has become difficult.

He commended the federal government, saying “for the first time, all our requests in the budget were granted,” and pledged his organisation’s resolve to soon bring “vandalisation to its barest minimum.”

Muhammadu also called on Nigerians to discountenance speculations that the Corps was recruiting and doing secret replacement.
