FG signs one-year performance contracts with para-military agencies

The Federal Government on Saturday signed one-year performance contracts with para-military agencies, insisting that they should hit 100 percent goals with on-going reforms.

The agencies are the Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS). The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, now under the Ministry of Interior signed the performance bound as well.

Passports and Visa reforms, Prisons decongestion, reformation of inmates in line with global standards, protection of critical national assets and infrastructures and fire fighting reforms are major issues and challenges being addressed at the moment by the Agencies in line with their respective mandates.

The  performance contracts were signed by Prof Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the NSCDC; Mr Sylvester Nwakuche, Controller General of Corrections, and Commandant General of Federal Fire Service, FFS; Mr Samuel Adeyemi. The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap, could not sign for the Immigration as she was outside the country at the moment.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who supervised the signing of the performance contracts after a three day retreat at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja, Niger state, said the on going reforms in all the agencies must be seen to their logical conclusions with 100 percent grades.

“Yes. When we did the last retreat, we were 62 percent. A year after,  the Presidential Performance Assessment Initiative moved us from 62 percent to 85 percent. So now our target is 100 percent. That is why I asked the Permanent Secretary to give me one reason why I need to change a winning team, ” Tunji-Ojo said.

The Minister emphasised the need for capacity building for personnel of the para-military Services, saying that capacity building would bring the best out of them and aligned them with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He urged the Director General of NIMC, Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote to continue the reforms in NIMC to ensure that Nigeria have a solid foundational identity that could be authenticated, verified and free of fraud and abuses.

Tunji-Ojo said the reforms in the Nigeria Correctional Service should be carried out to achieve transformation and reformation of inmates, saying that Correctional Centres should no longer be a place for condemnation.

The Minister said the agencies should not only make Mr President proud, but leave a legacy of building strong institutions that would stand the test of time after the exit of the current leaders.

For the Federal Fire Service, he said:” I told you there’s a lot of work to be done in terms of orientation, in terms of scope of service. By this time next year, I want to see a fire service that will be custodian of emergency medical service. I want to see a fire service that will be liberalized.

“I want to see a fire service that will allow for private sector participation. I want to see a fire service that will be able to regulate and be able to enumerate the sector. And I want to see a Fire Service that will be judged by the number of assets saved.”

NSCDC, Tantita operatives undergo training to ramp up oil output, revenue drive

Nigeria’s efforts to ramp up crude oil production and stabilise government revenue have received a boost as Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) began a three-day capacity building training for operatives in Effurun, Delta State.

The programme, facilitated by Top-Private Security Services Limited, is designed to strengthen surveillance, coordination, and protection of critical oil infrastructure.

Managing Director of Tantita, Chief Kestin Pondi, represented by TSSNL General Manager, Brig. Gen. Efe Dafioghor, described the training as timely in view of ongoing national efforts to curb oil theft and increase crude output.

“The more you make the pipelines green, the more you improve the natural resources that build the nation. This training is to build our capacity to sustain gains already recorded,” Pondi said, commending Tantita operatives as well as the Nigerian Army, Navy, and NSCDC for their contributions to improved oil production.

In his opening remarks, Executive Director of Operations and Technical, Captain Warredi Enisuoh, represented by TSSNL’s Head of Technical, Mr. Roland Isereke, recalled that prior to Tantita’s operations in 2022, Nigeria was battling massive crude losses, with production dipping below one million barrels per day.

“Today, the pipelines in our areas of operation remain green. Illegal refining has been reduced to the barest minimum, and that is because of you (operatives),” Enisuoh said.

He added that new technologies, including long-range drones capable of 16-hour flights, were being deployed to strengthen surveillance and quick response in the creeks.

He urged participants to take the training seriously, noting that their work on the field was crucial not just to security, but to the stability of Nigeria’s economy.

NSCDC nabs four suspected burglars in Ondo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State Command has apprehended four suspected burglars for allegedly breaking into a residential apartment in Peace and Joy community axis of Oba Ile in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects identified as: James Emmanuel Reuben (23), student; Monday Reuben (19), student; Japason Joshua (21), farmer; and Lucas Joshua (23), also a farmer, were nabbed last Sunday.

The quadruplets were arrested after the owner of the apartment reported the case of the burglary to the NSCDC while she was away for a church programme.

Daniel Aidemenbor, a spokesman for the NSCDC in Ondo, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a press statement on Wednesday in Akure, alleged that items stolen from the apartment included an Apple iPad, household equipment, clothing and food items.

Aidamenbor also said that following the complaint, NSCDC operatives tracked the SIM card inserted in the stolen iPad, leading to the arrest of four suspects:

He said James Emmanuel, whom he also described as a “soft target,” cooperated with the authorities and provided crucial information that facilitated the arrest of the other three.

“Based on legal advice, he (Emmanuel) has been granted bail,” Mr Aidamenbor added in the copy of the statement.

He explained that further investigations revealed that the suspects had been behind a series of burglary incidents within the community.

According to Aidemenbor, a search of the residence of the suspects yielded various stolen items belonging to the complainant, including food supplies, household equipment, clothing, and the missing iPad.

“The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime,” he said.

The NSCDC command called on the members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing credible and timely information that would support security agencies in flushing out criminal elements from the state.

Alleged N1.43trn theft: NSCDC Mining Marshals seal illegal lithium mine in Kebbi

The Mining Marshals of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have sealed an illegal lithium mining operation in Libata, Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State, accusing the operators of violating mining laws and defrauding the federal government of over ₦1.43 trillion.

The enforcement team, acting under the mandate of the federal high court, said the operation was linked to a firm now under investigation for large-scale mineral theft and regulatory breaches.

According to officials, the company, in alleged collaboration with unnamed foreign nationals, illegally extracted lithium valued at ₦1,431,762,340,450 over two years.

Regulators say the firm far exceeded the scope of its Small Scale Mining License (SSML) and Exploration License, encroaching on cadastre units lawfully owned by another titleholder.

Officials said the action contravenes section 46(2) of the 2007 Minerals and Mining Act and section 48 of the Nigerian Mining Regulations, 2011.

The company’s activities, they added, not only deprived the government of critical revenue but also undermined the legal framework protecting Nigeria’s mineral resources.

The site was shut down following a coordinated inspection by security personnel, state mine officers, and company representatives.

Despite a formal summons, the directors of Three Crown Mines failed to appear before investigators in Abuja on July 21, citing “inconvenience” through a letter from their counsel, Y.C. Maikyau, SAN.

The Mining Marshals described the excuse as unacceptable and warned against attempts to stall the investigation.

They insisted that a new appearance date must be mutually agreed upon to continue the probe.

John Onoja, Assistant Commandant of Corps and Commander of the Mining Marshals, issued a warning that mineral theft would be treated with zero tolerance.

“We will not negotiate the mineral fortune of Nigeria across any roundtable. Mineral theft is not a compoundable offence,” he said.

His comments came weeks after the Ministry of Solid Minerals fined Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company ₦2 billion following a similar investigation led by the Marshals.

Onoja said the recent enforcement actions were in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the directives of Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals.

Lithium, a key component in global energy transition technologies, is now central to Nigeria’s economic strategy, and its unchecked exploitation, officials say, threatens both revenue and national sovereignty.

In reaction, NSCDC Commandant-General, Abubakar Ahmed Audi, said law enforcement must be central to national prosperity.

“The enforcement of laws that protect federal revenue is foundational to Nigeria’s prosperity. The sanitisation of the mining sector is not just necessary—it is non-negotiable,” he said.
