The Police command warned in a statement by its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, that anyone caught in contravention of the ban on tents and canopies on roads would be made to face the law.

It admonished motorists to ‘’avoid dangerous driving and wrongful overtaking, speeding, overloading, obstruction, use of phone while driving.’’

In Ondo State, the Police command did not give the number of its men already on   Eid duty. But it said they would provide ‘water-tight security’ at prayer grounds and strategic locations in the state during the festival.

Also, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state deployed 900 tactical operatives to provide security during the celebration.

NSCDC spokesman, Daniel Aidamenbor, said: “The operatives are to ensure protection of critical national assets and infrastructure and safety of lives and property by forestalling all acts of criminal tendencies planned by unscrupulous elements during and after the festive seasons.’’

NSCDC accuses police of sabotaging prosecution of illegal miners in Nasarawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has accused the Nigeria Police Force of obstructing its efforts to prosecute illegal miners in Nasarawa State by intimidating its officers and shielding suspects.

Commander of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, John Onoja Attah, levelled the allegations in a petition to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

Attah alleged that operatives from the police’s Force Intelligence Department (FID) fired at NSCDC personnel and forcibly took over a mining site under investigation in a bid to derail legal proceedings.

According to him, the NSCDC had acted on a petition from Capital Apex Synergy Global Limited, leading to the arrest of one Ali Tanko and a group of Chinese nationals on October 25, 2024, at a mining site in Rafin Gabas, Kokona Local Government Area.

The suspects were allegedly involved in illegal mining operations since 2021 and reportedly confessed to the crime both in writing and on video.

Following the arrests, the NSCDC filed two criminal cases at the Federal High Court in Abuja — FHC/ABJ/CR/577/2024 and FHC/ABJ/CR/131/2025 — and deployed personnel to secure the mining site to preserve evidence.

It said that after military personnel withdrew from the location on March 26, 2025, police operatives allegedly moved in, attacked civil defence officers, and blocked them from carrying out their duties.

“On April 3, NSCDC operatives were reportedly ambushed, shot at, and four of them — Yarima Yunusa, Insp. Hasuruna Lamshi, Insp. Oliver Kutaya, and Raymond Ibrahim — were detained by police.

“No disciplinary action has been taken against the police operatives who fired at us,” Attah stated in the petition.

He also recounted a similar case on February 12, 2025, in Ondo State’s Lege community, where police allegedly attacked NSCDC personnel during an operation targeting illegal gold mining.

“On April 8, 2025, another raid led by CSP Abdulmajeed of the FID resulted in the alleged arrest and assault of four NSCDC officers who were pressured to falsely implicate their commander but refused to cooperate,” he said.

Attah added that rather than support the legal process, police have instead turned their attention to the petitioners, inviting and interrogating Capital Apex Synergy’s officials and securing a court order to bar NSCDC officers from the mining site.

“This is a coordinated effort to sabotage the criminal prosecution of illegal miners and derail justice,” Attah told the Senate panel, urging lawmakers to intervene and uphold the integrity of the anti-illegal mining campaign.

NSCDC boss calls for stronger synergy among security agencies to tackle insecurity

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has called for a more effective synergy among security agencies in adopting the “3Cs” approach, Coordination, Cooperation, and Collaboration, as a means to strengthen resilience against the country’s growing security challenges.

Audi made the call on Wednesday night at the Government House, Sokoto, shortly after paying a courtesy visit to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

He emphasised that the 3Cs are critical in addressing the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, insisting that all relevant stakeholders must work together.

“The security situation has spread across the country and demands collective efforts and synergy. No single agency has a monopoly on strategy. We must unite for the peace and security of Nigeria,” he stated.

Expressing concern over the rising wave of violent attacks, Audi traced the evolution of insecurity in Nigeria, from insurgency to terrorism, then banditry, and now widespread kidnapping across various regions.

He noted that the NSCDC has taken proactive steps to counter these threats by shifting its operational strategy.

According to him, the Corps has intensified efforts to build a strong force specifically targeting illegal mining operations and pipeline vandalism.

“This has significantly yielded results with the arrest of so many suspects, including foreigners, and closure of over 1,000 illegal mining sites.

“We are practically involved in all security operations across the country and interestingly, we are doing averagely well despite the fact that we also lose our officers and men during such engagements on the field of operations”, the NSCDC boss said.

In a significant boost to inter-agency cooperation, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have pledged support for the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS).

The endorsement came at the closing ceremony of a specialised training for the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Provost departments of the NFSS in Abuja.

Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ajao Adewale, said collaboration among security agencies is critical to combating insecurity, particularly in forests. He noted that the FCT, surrounded by vast forest and mountainous terrain, had become a hideout for criminals migrating from other states.

“Fighting insecurity is not the job of one agency alone. Intelligence is the lifeline of any security operation. This training shows your readiness to raise your operational standards,” he said.

Adewale commended the NFSS for its proactive approach and called for continued synergy in data sharing and intelligence-based policing to improve community safety.

Chairman of the NDLEA, retired Brig-Gen Buba Marwa, who was represented by the agency’s Deputy Director of Operations and Investigation, Kayode Raji, also praised the NFSS for investing in intelligence training. He assured continued collaboration, especially in the fight against drug-related crimes within forest regions.

“No single agency can fight crime alone. Security must be networked to be effective and to prevent inter-agency friction,” he added.

“The Department of State Services (DSS), the military, and the police all participated in the training to share their experience. Our officers are now better prepared, more confident, and strategically positioned to tackle insecurity in forest zones,” he added.

Osatimehin urged NFSS personnel to continue to build on the momentum and strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the security architecture.

The Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Audi, has ordered immediate detention of the officers who allegedly extorted N5.2m from some youths in Ekiti State.

The development followed the comprehensive investigation ordered into the matter by the Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Tuesday.

Audi, in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps in Abuja, Babawale Afolabi, described the conduct of the officers as unprofessional, saying it contravened the Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Corps.

He further directed that the culprits be whisked to the Corps National headquarters, Abuja for detention to allow the disciplinary committee set up by the government to conduct full investigation into the matter.

The NSCDC boss said the management of the Corps would await for the outcome of the investigation and promised to deal decisively with the officers according to the Public Service Rules (PSR) if they are found guilty of the offence.

He urged the public not to be deterred in relating with the Corps and giving necessary information that could help to serve them better without intimidation, harassment or extortion of any citizens of the country.
