    Odumodublvck shares near-death surgical experience

    Rapper Odumodublvck has opened up about a life-threatening tonsil surgery that left him convinced he might not survive.

    The artist, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, recounted the harrowing ordeal that unfolded around the release of his hit single “Declan Rice”.

    “That’s so crazy Because I thought I was going to die. That’s so crazy When I dropped Declan rice, that’s when I did the surgery. I took out my tonsils.

    “I don’t have tonsils and when I did the surgery the first time, this first time I’m saying this on camera,” he said.

    Odumodublvck revealed that the surgery, initially expected to last 20 to 30 minutes, stretched into a grueling five-hour procedure.

    By what Odumodublvck described as a miracle, the assisting doctor, typically an hour away, was just two minutes from the hospital at a filling station.

    He explained: “Surgery of 20 minutes or 30 minutes took five hours what yeah Just the guy that was doing the surgery said that in 12 years of doing that surgery he has never asked for help But that day he asked for help and the guy that he asked for the help was staying one hour away But that day when he called he was two minutes at the filling station. So he just came in that even the hospital would not know he came in so he came like an angel and went When the surgery was done, I thought I was actually going to die”.

    Discharged from the hospital, Odumodublvck’s fears lingered, recounting how he told his 71-year-old mother he was going to die. “I was telling my mother that I’m not going to make it,” he admitted.

    Rapper Odumodublvck has addressed criticism about his rap skills, pointing out his success and international collaborations as proof of his talent.

    In a recent interview, Odumodublvck said despite claims that his rap skills are subpar, he’s the most featured Nigerian rapper by international artists and has sold out shows globally, including in Canada.

    He attributed the negative opinions to envy, emphasising that his songs consistently top the charts and he secures more bookings than his peers.

    According to him, he is a proof to overcoming obstacles.

    He questioned the quality of other rappers’ music, highlighting the disparity between their success and his own.

    Odumodublvck said: “In Nigeria, they said that my rap is not good but I’m the most featured rapper by international artists. Do you know what I’m saying? Yeah, it’s just a problem of envy because I sing my hooks, you know, the songs are really nice. They give me more bookings than them.

    “I have more songs on the charts. The envy is deep especially when they think they are better.

    “You get what I’m saying but we’ll pay no mind to that. We’ll just continue, you know, pushing boundaries for those that believe. Let them continue to tune in because it’s very unfortunate for the people on the other side because this thing is not going to stop anytime soon.

    “This is God’s glory in full display. You get me? I’m like a testimony. You know, coming from Abuja, they say we cannot blow.

    “They say we should not use hip-hop. Everything they say we could not do. I went down that path and now I’m in Canada.

    “I’m the only rapper in Nigeria that has sold out a show in Canada but I cannot rap. So what is this that you guys are rapping? Kendrick Lamar is rapping what you guys are rapping now but you guys are not selling out. Stop deceiving us”.

    Rapper Odumodublvck, born Tochukwu Ojogwu has addressed critics and celebrated his contributions to hip-hop.

     In a recent interview, he hammered the impact of his work and dismissed doubts about his lyrical ability.

    Odumodublvck pointed to his 2023 mixtape Eziokwu as a benchmark, highlighting its string of successful tracks like “Woto-woto Seasoning,” “Blood on the Dance Floor,” and “Dog Eat Dog.”

    He argued that no other hip-hop project in Nigeria’s music history has produced as many chart-topping singles, positioning Eziokwu as a defining work in the genre.

    Odumodublvck also discussed his newly released sophomore album, Industry Machine, which dropped on October 6.

    The 23-track project features collaborations with major artists like Davido, Wizkid, Stormzy, Pa Salieu, Falz, Boj, Victony, Vector, and Ajebo Hustlers.

    He noted that tracks such as “Juju” and “Pity This Boy” have already reached number one.

    Responding to skepticism about his rapping skills, Odumodublvck strongly challenged the narrative that he lacks lyrical depth.

    He emphasised his consistent output, from Eziokwu to Industry Machine, as evidence of his growth and dedication to hip-hop.

    The rapper also addressed broader discussions about the state of the genre in Nigeria, asserting his commitment to pushing its boundaries.

    He said: “They were talking about hip-hop legacy, talking about discography. Make we rise that discography talk now.

    “We came up with Eziokwu, ‘The Machine Is Coming’. Eziokwu wey be mixtape, we know what will happen for Eziokwu. Woto-woto seasoning, hit record, Blood on the dance floor, hit record, ‘Dog eat Dog’, hit record.

    “There is no hip-hop album in the history of Nigerian music that has as many hit records as Eziokwu. I put my money on the line. Now, we are carry and go, the machine is coming.

    “Album wey be say we surprise people. Juju were number one. Pity This Boy were number one. What are you telling me? Now, we are here at the industry machine.

    “Back to back to back. Who is talking about discography? Try to keep your mind in talking about real rap. Nigga, who the f3ck is really rapping, nigga? Who the f3ck is really rapping? Who’s here, niggas? Who the f3ck is really rapping? I’m a man, I know verse. All those fallacy. We knocked all the fallacy down. We buried it.

    Rapper Odumodublvck has opened up about his past struggle with illicit drug addiction, recalling how he nearly lost his life to an overdose while studying at the University of Lagos.

    In an interview with Taymesan, the artist said the incident forced him to cut back drastically on substance use, indulging only once more before quitting completely.

    “I was a very bright student while studying at the University of Lagos. But I was indulging in illicit drugs. One day, I took it and almost died. I called my mother to book my flight to return to Abuja. After that incident, I only took drug once before quitting,” he recounted.

    Odumodublvck expressed gratitude for overcoming the addiction and now uses his platform to caution young people against drug abuse.

    He warned of the dangers of substance use, pointing to cases of individuals who lost their lives or loved ones due to addiction.

    “I’m grateful because there are some people that went into that life [illicit substance consumption] and they didn’t make it out. Some people didn’t make it alive, some had lost people to it like they died because of drug abuse. Some even committed suicide due to drug overdose. I’ve seen a pregnant woman and her husband battling drug addiction. It’s really terrible!”, he added.

    According to his tweet on X, he said the city breeds selfishness, warning that artists who grow up there may become greedy, self-centered, and packaged beasts.

    He attributed his success in the music industry to his background as an Abuja-bred artist. with the assertion that Lagos is the worst place for a young artist to develop their craft.

    Rapper Odumodublvck has hit back at fellow artists, accusing others of using streaming farms to boost their music streams.

    According to him, a good song will always shine through, regardless of any attempts to manipulate streams.

    He stated on X that those making the allegations are driven by insecurity and are trying to prepare excuses for their poor performance.

    In a statement on his X handle, Odumodublvck said, “Dear public, Do not let them deceive you. No matter how much a song is stream-farmed, if your song is good and the people love it, it will show. All this one na small pikin scopes and antics. Insecurities. Trynna prepare the table in incase you fail. Losers.”

    He emphasised that the quality of a song is what ultimately determines its success.

    Earlier, Magixx and Blaqbonez had aimed at some artists, with Magixx stating that their streams might be inflated through questionable means.

    Blaqbonez also weighed in, implying that some artists might be using underhanded tactics to boost their numbers.

    M.I expressed his admiration for the new generation of rappers, clarifying that he’s not threatened by their success.

    He said: “The likes of Odumodublvck, Shallipopi, Ladipoe, Falz are the rappers who are currently making waves, but I have not felt like I’m the old guy in terms of skills.     “I love what Odumodu is doing. I love what Blaqbonez is doing. I love their talent but it doesn’t intimidate me. I’m not Davido, I’m not Wizkid; they are in the red-hot moment.”
