  • Olamide, Lil Kesh dragged on Twitter over ‘Logo Benz’

Some Twitter users have expressed displeasure at the lyrics of singers Olamide Adedeji a.k.a Baddo and Keshinro Ololade aka Lil Kesh’s new song titled: ‘Logo Benz.’

The controversial track from the former labelmates was produced by Rexxie and dropped on Thursday.

Following the release, fans took to social media to condemn the lyrics which seemed like it openly endorsed Advanced Fee Fraud (aka Yahoo scam) and money rituals.

The song opens with the lyrics ”If money no enter, I go do blood money” and has a recurring chant of “A fe ra Benz’ (we want to buy Benz).

Most fans pointed out the impact of songs in the society and cautioned artists to refrain from using their platforms to promote societal ills in any form.

@AyoBankole tweeted, “Logo Benz. No melody. No depth. No message. Just a shameless promotion of ritual killings; desperation for money at all costs, including human blood.

“This is filth. Olamide and Lil Kesh didn’t just go beyond the line, they landed in the dustbin of history’s trashiest artists.”

@Yung_stunning said, “Literally, Logo Benz song by Olamide was a nonsense song that urges ritualist to be swapping girls for Benz.

“The song should be ban before it gets out of hands. Sometimes our artists don’t know how powerful they are and the message they disseminate to the people.”

@Chidoziewilson wrote, “Am I the only one thinks that the logo Benz song is going to create an avenue/excuse for these ritualists and self acclaimed yahoo boys to intensify their struggle to keep using human beings as sacrifice.”

They further condemned the latest song trends that appear to endorse illegal money-making schemes. Victor AD’s ‘Wetin We Gain’, 9ice’s ‘Living Things’ and Chinko Ekun’s ‘Able God’ were listed as examples.

@Osascruz said, “From “Living Things” (Fraud). Wetin we gain (any you make it, just make it) Able God (Fraud/Yahoo) Logo Benz (Ritual) The trend will continue because such songs blow faster.”

@Ani_nomso tweeted, “It went from Olu Maintain’s “Yahooze” to Kelly Handsome’s “Maga don Pay” then down to 9ice’s “Living Things” & Now Lil Kesh’s Logo Benz.

“From “If i hammer” to “i go do blood”, its only get worse as we continue normalising fraud.”

Meanwhile, Olamide has reacted to the opinions swirling around about the song stating that it was intended to draw attention to the ritual killings and internet fraud.

Tweeting on Friday @Olamide_YBNL, he said, “Logo Benz is for the 3rd party to have a glimpse into the current state of youths in our society. (Runs girls x runs boys)

“ I’m not sure if there’s anything like too much awareness, but pardon me if there is. It’s all over the news, it’s always been in movies, don’t box musicians,” he said.

Fans are, however, not pleased as they feel it is the same ‘weak’ defence he gave when ‘Science Student’ received similar backlash and was subsequently banned.

In an exciting online unveil, Star Lager Beer announced its support for the biggest music events this month.

Speaking on the announcement, the Marketing Director Nigerian Breweries Plc, Emmanuel Oriakhi said,

“In June 1949, the first bottle of STAR lager beer rolled off the bottling lines of the Lagos brewery of Nigerian Breweries. Today, nearly 70 years later, STAR is the undisputed market leader in Nigeria’s alcoholic beverage industry and is also recognized globally.

“Key to creating such a powerful, vibrant and relevant brand has been the emphasis on connecting with the youth demographic through music and sports.

STAR has been able to harness the power of music to pass messages across to its  consumers through such activities as Nigeria’s largest and most celebrated music festival, the Star Music Trek. This month, we will be supporting the biggest concerts in the music scene and we cannot wait to do even more in the coming year”.

The launch of the Star Music App and ‘Star The Winner Is’ were other avenues through which the beer brand used music as a vehicle to engage with its consumers. Before now, STAR also achieved a similar effect through ‘Star Quest’ which provided the platform for the discovery of several established Nigerian musicians such as KCee who won the inaugural Star Quest in 2002 as part of the twin-act KC Presh.

STAR has consistently maintained its market leadership position by ensuring its activities keys into the thoughts and sentiments of consumers. STAR has thus made itself the ‘default’ Nigerian beer and a regular part of everyday life in the minds of its consumers.

  • And Olamide, fans lost Russia 2018 dream

THE Super Eagle’s anticipated victories at the ongoing World Cup in Russia may not carry the much expected pomp. This is as a result of breach in plan by rave singer, Olamide, to perform after Nigeria’s match.

Following the last Olamide Live in Concert, #OLIC4 show at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on December 16, 2017, the management of Kwese Free Sports TV had planned to sponsor Olamide and five fans to be chosen by him to the World Cup.

I was with the General Manager of Kwese Free Sports, Chichi Nwoko during the show. And she explained how the Mundial show was supposed to play out: “We are hoping that when the Super Eagles win, we would break out into a party with Olamide performing. We are a very musical people. For me I think that on the other side of entertainment is sport. Just to reiterate, we want to plug in to what our fans enjoy…,” she said.

Now that Olamide will not be in Russia under this arrangement, apart from the expected after match concert, the singer has just denied five grassroots fans of a life time experience.

According to Nwoko, “We are also giving him the opportunity to engage with our audience of young men. We want them to enjoy the World Cup with us. So, what we have done is, not only are we going to be taking Olamide to the World Cup, we are allowing him to take five of his fans; and these are regular people on the street who wouldn’t have the opportunity. We are proud to sponsor that experience. This is in line with our brand’s promise to not only show the matches but to also be on ground.”

I’m usually thrilled by a mandate that tends to place priority on the masses, especially as a business decision. But the table turned when the hip hop sensation sealed a deal with Play TV, a competitor of Kwese TV as brand ambassador.

Olamide also launched his much-anticipated music and lifestyle channel, Voice of the Streets (VOTS) on PLAY TV. The event coincided with the birthday of the musical star at which he gave out 100 Play decoders with 12 months free subscription to reward his fans for their loyalty to him and his music over the years.

To underscore the place of Olamide in the brand equity of Kwese Free Sports, Nwoko says “we found there is an amazing love and respect that people have for Olamide, and so for us to be able to connect to that humility- that story that resonates with a lot of our viewers – someone that’s humble, someone who started from the bottom and is now a success story – as a brand that’s something we love to align with.”

This whole dream of going to Russia with five fans ended with Olamide forming an alliance with a rival TV station. Although it is not clear what form of contract the singer had signed with Kwese Free Sports, the singer reportedly apologized saying he didn’t know the two TV channels are competing brands. And so ends the story.

When the wind of endorsement deal, especially by telecom companies, blew across the Nigerian entertainment industry in recent past, filmmaker Kunle Afolayan’s endorsement deal with Glo was terminated because he featured Afeez Oyetoro, aka Saka, a brand ambassador for Etisalat in the movie, ‘Phone Swap’.

Also, Globacom ambassador, Burna Boy was dropped from Ghana Meets Naija concert, sponsored by MTN. This was just as another Glo ambassador; Omawumi who had recorded and released ‘Warm Yourself’ with Wizkid could not feature the latter in her video because of his deal with MTN.

It is indeed a sorry case, especially for the five lucky fans who would have enjoyed this life time opportunity.

Well, the World Cup opened on Thursday in the 80,000 capacity Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia, with award-winning British pop singer, Robbie Williams helming the stage with support from soprano Aida Garifulina, winner of the 2013 Operalia competition.

In other reports, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been rated as “team with the best travelling uniform.” The rating which was carried out in Russia by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), pegged the Nigerian team at No 1. This came after a world fashion magazine GQ rated Nigerian Super Eagles jersey as the best for the 2018 World Cup.

Well, let the fun continue. And like they say, ‘Fly, Super Eagles Fly’.

  • Omoboy set to feature Olamide on ‘Aregbesola Ku Ise’ video

Fast-rising Afro-pop artiste, Abolade Babasola, popularly known as Omoboy, has geared up for the visuals of his song, ‘Aregbesola Ku Ise’ dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

Omoboy says he was inspired to shoot a video for the song as a result of the feedback he got from his fans across the nation.

“Since we released the song, people have been requesting for the video. Even the Igbos and Hausas are also calling me to do a visual of the song. In fact, Aregbesola Ku Ise is going viral than I expected, I guess because of the rich content and the beat. The feedback is awesome,” he said.

While giving a hint on the video, the singer said that “Plans are in top gear for the video production. My director is presently at Osun to pick various locations for this project, we are putting Osun state on the world map with this video and I promise you, it is going to be a world premiere.”

He continue saying, “The video will be a remix featuring one of Nigeria’s most talented rappers, Olamide Adedeji a.k.a Badoo. Olamide is a perfect fit the song because of his indigenous rap skills and he is also one of my role models in the music industry.”

Despite the fact that Aregbesola has less than 200 days in office as the Chief Executive of the State, Omoboy still expressed his love for the Governor, describing his administration as success.

Omoboy started learning music production since he was five but came into limelight with his debut single, Emimimo in 2015. He also studies music at MUSON School of Music in Lagos and aim to use his songs to inspire and motivates the youth.
