Oharume hails Omo-Agege’s leadership, urges support

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Dr. Abel Izomare Oharume, has lauded the leadership qualities of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.

Oharume, who recently had an extensive meeting with Omo-Agege, in a statement, emphasised the need for Deltans to rally around him to secure a brighter and more inclusive future for the State.

Reflecting on his discussions with the political leader, Oharume praised Omo-Agege’s unwavering grassroots support and ability to unite people across Delta State.

“Omo-Agege’s leadership extends across all local government areas, wards, and units in Delta State. His political base is deeply rooted in grassroots support, making him unmatched in the state’s political opposition,” Oharume said.

During the meeting, Oharume and Omo-Agege discussed the critical need for a new leadership direction in Delta, one that prioritizes inclusivity, security, and economic growth.

“We emphasised the importance of leadership that transcends political affiliation, tribe, and religion. Omo-Agege’s vision is centered on creating a trustworthy system that guarantees a secure future for our children, supports interstate trade and investment, and ensures the safety of lives and property,” he added.

Highlighting key policy initiatives, he commended Omo-Agege’s blueprint for Delta State, including the Delta Hope PAC, which aims to revamp agricultural institutions, facilitate soft loans for farmers and traders, and provide welfare packages for civil servants.

Other notable initiatives include the Delta State Department of Public Safety Law (DSDPS Law) to address public safety issues, such as tanker explosions and road safety, and the Delta Consumer Rights Bill to regulate commodity prices and ensure fair trade practices.

Omo-Agege’s educational initiatives were also discussed, particularly the Descer Law, which focuses on ensuring quality education for all children in Delta from primary to secondary school. In addition, Omo-Agege proposed the creation of Delta Techville, a technology innovation hub aimed at creating jobs in the tech sector.

Health care also featured prominently in their discussions, with plans for the Delta Purple Heart Bill, which seeks to establish world-class medical facilities across the state.

According to Oharume, this initiative will revolutionize emergency healthcare by mandating immediate attention to accident and emergency patients before administrative requirements, including a world-class antenatal facility for labour and child care, as well as facilities for the early detection of cancers. Importantly, the Delta Purple Heart Bill will make it mandatory for all hospital management to attend to emergency and accident patients brought to their facility before asking for any requirements, ensuring that immediate care is provided without delay.

Oharume described the meeting as inspiring and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Omo-Agege’s vision for Delta State. “Omo-Agege’s dedication to transformative leadership and his robust policy framework reflect his genuine commitment to the welfare and progress of Deltans. It’s time for the people of Delta State to unite and support his vision,” he noted.

As he prepares for the 2027 general election, Oharume expressed optimism about the future under Omo-Agege’s leadership.

“With his comprehensive roadmap for development, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege remains a beacon of hope for Delta State, and I stand ready to contribute my part in ensuring his vision becomes a reality,” Oharume concluded.

  • Omo-Agege denies alleged plan to dump APC

Omo-Agege denies alleged plan to dump APC

Former Senate Deputy President Ovie Omo-Agege has denied report by a newspaper that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress(APC).

In a statement by his Media Adviser  Sunny Areh, the 2023 Delta APC governorship candidate said the story was a product of allegation journalism with no iota of truth.

He said: “Our attention has been drawn to a the weird publication, which alleged that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the Senate in the 9th Session, is scheming to abandon the All Progressives Congress (APC) to float a phantom new political party. The story is not only shocking but idiotic.

“Having led the APC to its best ever performance in the 2023 general elections in Delta State where the party won two of the three senatorial seats and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was narrowly cheated from coasting to victory in the Governorship election, associating his name with the political group the former Kaduna State governor is said to be working on is a clear case of fable without any basis whatsoever.

“Even though we are shocked, we are not entirely surprised. The story is the product of a hatchet job orchestrated by political forces whose only path to relevance is to create a wedge between Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In its fake and concocted story, the publication never referred to any time when Senator Omo-Agege could have met with his illusory political group. And while he claimed to have sought and could not get a response from two Presidential spokespersons – Mr. Sunday Dare and Barr. Daniel Bwala – he never reached out to Senator Omo-Agege.

“Let it be known that as the leader of APC in Delta State and having taken it through a record showing in the 2023 general elections, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege remains irrevocably committed, steadfast and primed to the task of completing the job of rescuing the state from the serial failed administrations in 2027.

“Together with other progressive forces, he will steer the state to true prosperity and take her away from the trajectory of missed opportunities, failed policies and incorporated corruption to the path of development as a frontline oil producing state in the Niger-Delta.”

He urged the APC faithful  to disregard the hatchet job and remain firm in their loyalty to the party.

“Already, our dear President’s reform agenda for re-tooling Nigeria’s economy to a productive one is bearing fruits and the people are testifying to the renewed hope of all facets of the population.

President Tinubu will not be deterred or distracted by reactionary forces determined to keep the people in perpetual penury,” he noted.

    Christmas: I’m optimistic of Nigeria’s future –  Omo-Agege

The former Deputy Senate President,  Ovie Omo-Agege says he is optimistic about the future of Nigeria as he extends warm Christmas wishes to Nigerians.

Omo-Agege in his Christmas message to Nigerians on Wednesday, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba, said: “May this festive season bring joy, peace, and love to our great nation.

”As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, I extend warmest wishes to you and your loved ones.

”As we rejoice, let us not forget the numerous challenges we face as a nation. I’m optimistic about the future of Nigeria.”

He added that the  government’s economic reforms, although challenging, remained necessary steps toward a more prosperous future for the nation.

”We acknowledge that the recent reforms have caused hardship for many Nigerians, particularly with the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the naira’s multiple exchange rates.

“Nonetheless, it’s essential to recognise that these reforms are designed to address decades of economic mismanagement and put Nigeria on a path to sustainable growth.

“The reforms are crucial for transitioning our economy from import-dependent to self-sufficient, productive, and job-creating. Achieving this ambitious long-term goal requires patience and perseverance.

“Encouragingly, we are already witnessing positive gains, including improved growth rates, reduced imports, increased exports, higher incomes for farmers, and increased FAAC allocations to state and local governments.”

According to the senator, the gains demonstrate that the reforms are yielding positive results, and with continued patience and perseverance, Nigeria can overcome current challenges and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous.

“As we move forward, it’s crucial that we collaborate to build a brighter future for our nation.

“With perseverance and collective support, we can overcome current hardships and emerge stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous. ”

Looking ahead to 2025, Omo-Agege urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration as they steered Nigeria through a critical economic restructuring process and implement the Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace and  Rebuilding Prosperity.

According to him, there is need to remain optimistic and supportive as Nigeria navigates this critical phase of economic transformation.

Omo-Agege, however, noted that Delta  has continued to face numerous challenges, including insecurity, poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, a struggling economy, and underpaid workers.

”Many communities are left in dire need due to  lack of transparency and accountability in funds allocation.

”Despite its huge potentials, agriculture has been neglected, unlike in many other states.

”This sector is crucial for providing food, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth.

”In fact, agriculture contributes significantly to the global economy, providing employment, raw materials, and economic development opportunities.

‘Through prioritising agriculture, Delta  can unlock its economic potentials, reduce poverty, and improve the livelihoods of its residents.

“As your opposition leader, I remain committed to driving change and ushering in a new era of progress and prosperity for our beloved state.

“My vision is for a Delta where every resident  has access to quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and a living wage. Let’s work together to make this vision a reality.

“Merry Christmas, and may the New Year bring us peace, prosperity, and happiness. God bless Delta State, and God bless Nigeria. ”

  • Delta APC crisis: Omo-Agege supporters issue minority report

Delta APC crisis: Omo-Agege supporters issue minority report

    • By Unue Emeka

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State remains embroiled in internal strife with the release of a Minority Report from supporters of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, opposing the majority report presented by the Olorogun O’tega Emerhor-led Reconciliation Committee.

Emerhor’s Reconciliation Committee was established by the State Working Committee (SWC) to address grievances stemming from the 2023 general elections and to unify the party for future contests.

While the majority report gained the support of key stakeholders, the minority faction rejected its recommendations, further highlighting the sharp divisions within Delta APC.

The “minority report” further underscored the significant and sharp division within the Delta APC, and no tendency within the party is ready to shift ground for the party’s unity.

In fact, some allies of Omo-Agege in the last election including the two APC elected Senators (Ede Dafinone and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas) and only APC House of Representatives member, Francis Waive, have since pitched tent with the majority report.

Political observers agree that the National APC leadership must intervene decisively. Without a common ground, Delta APC risks becoming a shadow of itself. The call for a unified, inclusive leadership model has grown louder, particularly as the “one-man show” style of Omo-Agege is widely opposed by other leaders, including Minister Festus Keyamo and elected representatives.

The majority report recommends collegiate leadership, transparency, and structural reforms to position the party for success. However, the proposed minority report challenges the legitimacy of the committee, accusing it of being biased and lacking transparency. It claims the inclusion of non-APC members in the reconciliation process rendered its recommendations invalid.

The minority report also accuses the committee of exacerbating divisions by proposing unconstitutional leadership structures, such as the “council of leaders.” These proposals were labeled as destabilizing and contrary to party rules, reflecting a failure to prioritize genuine reconciliation.

Another key contention is the committee’s recommendations for party congresses. While the Majority report provides for the Collegiate leadership to manage the Congress processes to ensure no one leader highjack the party structure, the minority faction argues for the status that has always allowed a super leader to highjack the process alleging that allowing a leadership council to manage congresses undermines grassroots participation and violates party guidelines.

The proposed minority report also alleges internal sabotage by unnamed leaders and accuses the majority report of failing to address these issues adequately. It proposes convening the State Executive Committee to restructure the party, emphasizing grassroots engagement and accountability. This includes a comprehensive review of the 2023 elections to identify and address lapses.

Critics of the minority report argue that Omo-Agege loyalists’ stance prioritizes personal interests over collective progress. The lack of inclusivity in decision-making during his tenure as the party’s leader has been a recurring issue, further alienating stakeholders and weakening the party’s unity.

Delta APC’s survival hinges on finding middle ground where all leaders are treated as equal stakeholders. Political analysts warn that continuing with the status quo will lead to repeated electoral failures, allowing the PDP to maintain its dominance in Delta State.

To secure victory in 2027, Delta APC must embrace collective leadership, prioritize reconciliation, and restructure its internal processes. The party must move beyond a single-leader narrative and embrace a united front to present a credible alternative to the PDP.

The way forward lies in shared responsibility and inclusivity. APC today is a divided party of those with Minister Festus Keyamo and those for Sen Ovie Omo-Agege.

By recommending that these two leaders co-chair the Collegiate leadership council, the majority report provides a practical solution to the unification of the party.

Omo-Agege can still play a pivotal role in the party without monopolising its structure. Only by fostering unity can the APC hope to challenge the PDP effectively and meet the expectations of Deltans longing for political change. Failure to do so will leave Delta APC fragmented and irrelevant.

    Omo-Agege: Delta APC’ll emerge stronger towards 2027

The immediate past Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has assured All Progressivs Congress (APC)leaders and stakeholders in Ughelli North Local Area that the party will emerge stronger ahead of 2027 elections

He charged the party leaders and stakeholders in Ughelli North to build on the gains of the last election and consolidated on it, noting that if leaders in some other local government achieved close to what Ughelli North did, APC would have been in government house at Asaba.

The former DSP stated this at Ughelli Kingdom Hall, during the meeting of APC leaders and stakeholders from the LGA, also charged Deltans to hold Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to account on how the huge allocation coming to the state is judiciously appealed for the overall benefits of Deltans.

Earlier, an APC chieftain and a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly from Ughelli North, Hon. Abel Oshevire, moved a motion for a vote of confidence on Senator Omo-Agege’s continued leadership of Delta APC, and it was unanimously endorsed through a voice vote by party elders, leaders and stakeholders at the meeting.

Omo-Agege added that APC won two senatorial seats in the last election in Delta which clearly show that APC is a force in Delta against the narrative that Delta is a PDP state, stressing with unity amongst the party leaders and members, APC will takeover Delta come 2027.

“What we need to do know is to build on the gains of the last election and consolidate on the area that we did very well, while devising a strategies to overcome  our area weakness ahead of 2027 election.

“we won in Delta Central and Delta South, so we need to consolidate on these two senatorial district. We lost in Delta North, therefore, we need to rebuild that party in Delta North, because they are the weakest link.

“Only two days ago as part of our consolidation efforts we were able to attract a political juggernaut, rhe real Lioness of the NIger Delta, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori and her teaming support into Delta APC.

“I also want Deltans to ask Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on how he is spending our money, because the money he is spending today is oir money, money meant for the development of the State and to empower Deltans, so we as a people must hold him to account.

“Delta has received over N900b in the past one year and six months, that is even more than the total allocation going to the 5 states in the South East, but what is Sheriff doing with it, he will say he is building bridges, how much is the bridge? Building of flyover bridge is good, he is using N86b for the bridges. However you subtract N86b from over N900b, we have over N700b, going through Delta State can you tell where such money was spent, this is why Deltans should begin to ask questions,” he added.

Present at the Ughelli APC meeting include the Acting State chairman of the party,  Barr. Francis Obigbor, State Secretary,  Surv. Peter Akarogbe and several other members of the State Working Committee, SWC.

Others include a leader of the party from Abraka, Chief Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, Leader of APC in Ughelli North, Prof. Ibodje, Chief Engr. Joseph Asa, Dr Otive Igbuzo, the two House of Assembly members, APC chairman in Ughelli North, Mr. Onoabedje Obakpororo, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi,  among other party stalwarts.

Omo-Agege tasks Delta APC to re-strategize, unite ahead 2027 polls

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has stressed the importance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State reevaluating its strategies and fostering unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omo-Agege, who is also the Obarisi of Urhoboland, made this call during an enlarged meeting with APC leaders and stakeholders from the 11 wards in Ovu-Orhie, Ethiope East Local Government Area.

He urged party leaders to demonstrate commitment by working together to eliminate divisions and promote harmony within the party.

The 2023 APC governorship candidate emphasized the need for party members, particularly from Ethiope Federal Constituency, to put aside differences and focus on collective progress for the benefit of the constituency and the party.

Omo-Agege stated his commitment to engaging with the party to identify areas of weakness and improve for the 2027 elections.

“What specific strategies do you think APC leaders in Delta State could focus on to ensure greater unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections?

“After an election, we needed to seat down and evaluate our performance, analyse where we didn’t do well and how to prevent such shortcomings in future elections.

“Though, we didn’t win the governorship as expected, not because we lacked the capacity, but for some internal sabotage by some of the party leaders, we lost. However, for the first time we won two senatorial seats, one House of Representatives. Today, it has become two and seven House of Assembly seats. No opposition party has been able to achieve this feat since 1999 in Delta State.

“What is ahead of us going into 2027 is to build a united party that is strong enough to uproot PDP and its years of unproductive governace in Delta and with the recent defection of our real lioness of the Niger Delta, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, member representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Constituency, Federal House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on NDDC and some top PDP leaders, APC is well positioned to sweep Ethiope Federal constituency and Delta in 2027.”

Also speaking, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu charged party leaders to show their commitment to APC by investing in the growth and development of the party to position it as a strong force to win elections.

Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Governor James Ibori, while charging those claiming to be leaders to live up to expectations, noted that the level of financial and material investment in a party is what qualifies one as leader of a party.

According to her, “A leader of a party is not the one who will want to divert funds brought for elections purposes, but someone who go beyond what was provided by the party to add his own and ensure that the party wins.

“So, going forward let’s work together, showing commitment to the ideas of the party. When we work collectively, with leaders investing their time and resources, PDP’s days are numbered in Delta.”aaaa

Delta North APC reaffirms support for Omo-Agege, seeks post-election review

Delta North All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders have reaffirmed support for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, urging unity under his leadership to build on the 2023 general election achievements.

This commitment comes as the Delta All APC sets its sights on claiming the governorship in the 2027 elections.

At a recent public hearing of the Secretariat Subcommittee of the Olorogun O’tega Emerhor-led Reconciliation Committee for Delta North at the Maryam Babangida Centre in Asaba, stakeholders presented memorandums advocating for party unity and focus under Omo-Agege’s leadership.

By reaffirming their support for Omo-Agege, Delta North APC leaders demonstrated determination to reclaim the governorship and strengthen the party’s presence in the state.

Notable stakeholders, including Barr. Ambrose Egwunatum (Ukwuani LGA), Mr. Churchill Edem (APC Chairman, Ukwuani LGA), Ogbueshi Kris Oputa (APC Chairman, Ndokwa East LGA), and Chief Gregory Dike Onah (APC Chairman, Ndokwa West LGA), Hon. Dr. Olisa Imegwu (former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly), Justice Azuka Odanike, Tony Ndanenu, Chief Dennis Okoh, Kingsley Saliye, Mrs. Omolara Eke, and Onotu Henry Okechukwu, emphasized the need to strengthen the party’s existing structure and make it more formidable.

They also called for a thorough postmortem analysis of the 2023 governorship election to identify areas of improvement. The stakeholders further urged the party leadership to sanction members involved in anti-party activities, stressing that discipline is crucial for the party’s success in future elections.

The APC’s renewed commitment is significant, given the party’s performance in the 2023 elections. Although the PDP won the governorship, the APC made gains in the senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly elections.

Chief Kris Oputa, APC Chairman for Ndokwa East LGA, emphasised: “The party boasts a solid foundation in this region,” and expressed confidence in future electoral successes, citing Senator Omo-Agege and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi’s role in establishing the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Ndokwa.

Chief Dennis Okoh reflected on the 2023 governorship election, saying, “Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Hon. Friday Osanebi’s tireless campaigns would have secured our victory, but for acts of betrayal and other factors.” He condemned party members’ betrayal and stressed the need for discipline. “Let’s identify and discipline the moles among us,” he urged. “How can a leader nominate supporters for appointments in the opposing Sheriff government?” Okoh asked, highlighting the need for loyalty.

High Chief Gregory Onah, Chairman of Ndokwa West LGA, is optimistic about the APC’s future prospects, thanks to the foundation laid by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi. Their efforts have positioned the APC as a strong contender in upcoming elections.

“For us in Ndokwa Nation, we are glad that through their excellent representation and particularly the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Ndokwa land, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Senator Peter Nwaoboshi have made our work very easy, he said.

Kingsley Saliye, another leader from Ndokwa West LGA, raised concerns about the party’s loss in the last election, suggesting internal sabotage as a possible cause. He advocated for a thorough review of the 2023 election and encouraged leaders to collaborate with Omo-Agege and Nwaoboshi to fortify the party’s presence in Delta North.

Rt. Hon. Dr. Olisa Imegwu, a respected APC chieftain from Ndokwa East and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, voiced his discontent with the ongoing neglect of the Ndokwa nation by successive APC federal governments. He highlighted Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s exceptional efforts in bringing development and empowerment to Ndokwa through his Senate office.

However, Imegwu criticized the Minister for Aviation and Airspace Development for failing to engage with the Ndokwa people, disregarding their needs despite serving under Presidents Buhari and Tinubu. “It’s alarming that the Minister seeks party leadership without connecting with the people,” Imegwu emphasized, urging Delta’s political appointees to positively impact APC members in the state.

Chief Jerry Nkeweshe, a prominent APC chieftain from Aniocha North Local Government Area, condemned the actions of certain party leaders in Delta North who allegedly undermined the party during the 2023 governorship election. He advocated for sanctions against these leaders to prevent future anti-party activities.

Specifically, Nkeweshe cited the cases of a former Delta State House of Assembly speaker and a former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) chairman, who allegedly worked against the party due to grievances against Senator Omo-Agege.

Nkeweshe alleged that the former NDDC chairman distributed dollars to influence voters against the APC during the governorship election, until his supporters chased them away from the polling units. Furthermore, he claimed that the former speaker, who received funds for the elections in Delta North, failed to show up until election day morning, and the funds were not utilized.

Chief Nkeweshe also revealed that the then-Governor of Delta State and Senator Ned Nwoko consulted with the former speaker in their respective homes, while he was working tirelessly to deliver the party’s victory. “Without my effort, we wouldn’t have won my ward,” he emphasized, calling for sanctions against party leaders who worked against the party.

Hon. Promise Ogumu, a former Ika North East House of Assembly Aspirant, echoed Nkeweshe’s sentiments, stressing the importance of enforcing discipline within the party and holding accountable those who engage in anti-party activities. Ogumu commended Senator Omo-Agege’s efforts in the last election and urged the party to build on the foundation laid during the 2023 polls.

A petition signed By Michael Ukasare, Esq. (Delta Central), Ambrose O. Egwunatum, Esq. (Delta North) Gabriel O. Yabaka, Esq (Delta South), presented by Barr. Egwunatum questioned the legitimacy of the Reconciliation Committee led by Olorogun Otega Emerhor, arguing that it lacked a clear mandate. They called for a comprehensive review of the 2023 governorship election instead of rushing into reconciliation.

The petitioners emphasized that a post-mortem analysis is essential for the party’s success in future elections. They noted that Senator Omo-Agege’s leadership had brought unprecedented successes to the Delta APC and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the party to victory in 2027.

According to them, “A thorough post-mortem analysis is crucial for redemption and party success. We expect the Committee to consider our concerns, wind up its activities and recommend to the party to set up a post-mortem committee to unravel why we lost an election we should have won.

“Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was well positioned to clinch victory at that election for the Party in Delta State. The successes recorded under his leadership of the Delta State APC are unprecedented. We are yet to see any viable alternative to his strategic leadership of the party as it was under his guidance, the party experienced significant milestones.” They urged the party to build on the foundation laid during the 2023 polls.

Elder Godsday Orubebe, while addressing journalists after the meeting, corroborated the positions of the different speakers, noting that the party worked very hard for victory in the 2023 governorship election and that minor and avoidable mistakes prevented the party from taking over Delta for APC.

Orubebe further explained that the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate had a better vision and plans to transform Delta’s fortunes. With the current reconciliation efforts aiming to unify aggrieved members and leaders, he is optimistic that the APC will gain power in the next elections.
