Utomi’s shadow government plan alien to Constitution, says Omokri

Shadow government is alien to presidential system of government that we are practicing, a former presidential spokesman Reno Omokri has said.

He stated this in a statement yesterday in respect of the shadow government idea being planned by Labour Party (LP)  chieftain Prof. Pat Utomi

According to Omokri, it will be offensive to start an idea which is totally unconstitutional.

He said: “Forming a shadow government under a presidential system of government is treason,” he said, adding, “You cannot try it in the United States.”

He explained that the shadow system is untenable in a presidential system of government because such a system is a republican democracy, where the President serves as both the Head of State and the Head of Government.

He cited Section 1 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, to support his position. It states, “The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be governed, nor shall any persons or group of persons take control of the Government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.”

Omokri pointed out that the shadow system is permitted only in parliamentary democracies, where the roles of Head of State and Head of Government are separate.

He stated, “Please fact-check me: a shadow government is allowed in a Parliamentary system because Westminster forms of government do not have Separation of Powers, unlike Presidential systems of government, and the Executive and Legislature are fused. To provide checks and balances, a shadow government is provided for in the Constitutions of Parliamentary democracies.”

He explained that forming and participating in a shadow government requires a person to be an elected member of parliament, noting that this condition applies only to the party that finished second in the general election.

The former presidential aide stated, “Even in England, a party that comes in third or lower cannot form an alternative government. If it attempts to do so, it will be considered treason to the state,” he stated.

Saying he deeply admired the opposition party leader, whom he said he sent the statement privately before releasing it publicly as a mark of his sincere respect for him, Omokri admonished Utomi to shelve the move.

  • Tinubu’s appointments most accommodating, says Omokri

Tinubu’s appointments most accommodating, says Omokri

A former presidential aide, Mr. Reno Omokri, has absolved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of alleged favouritism.

According to him, the president’s appointments are the most balanced in the country’s history.

President Tinubu has faced criticism from political opponents who assert that his top appointments favour his Yoruba ethnic group.

However, the former presidential aide criticised the feedback as unfair, stating that the critics did not consider the president’s appointments comprehensively. Specifically, Omokri mentioned that columnist  Farooq Kperogi relied on a set of appointments to support his conclusion in an article.

“The membership of one committee cannot establish tribalism. It is intellectually lazy and a hasty generalisation to make such a conclusion from just one alleged example, which is not even accurate,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He stated that the critics would have reached a different conclusion if they had considered the appointments holistically and in relation to the nation’s order of precedence list.

Omokri pointed out that, unlike in the past, Tinubu ensured that the nation’s leadership’s top hierarchy, including the executive, legislature, and judiciary, was evenly distributed among the country’s six geopolitical zones.

He stated: “When you take appointments made by the President and weigh them according to their ranking on the National Order of Precedence of Public Officers and Other Persons, it becomes clear that President Tinubu is perhaps one of Nigeria’s most accommodating leaders, especially when you compare him with his immediate predecessor.

“If you examine the National Order of Precedence of Public Officers and Other Persons, following the President and his deputy, you will find that the President of the Senate, other legislative leaders, the Chief Justice of the Federation, and other judicial officers, along with the cabinet, reveal that the top appointive position in Nigeria is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“Under General Buhari, Babachir Lawal and Boss Mustapha served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; both were Northerners like Buhari. Under Tinubu, Senator George Akume, also a Northerner, holds the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“Next is the Office of the Head of the Civil Service. Buhari appointed Mrs. Folasade Yemi-Esan from the North-Central region, while President Tinubu named Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack from the South-South region to lead that office.”

Omokri praised Tinubu for maintaining balance in the appointments of the defence forces’ service chiefs and the heads of the security services.

    He listed the holders of the offices, “National Security Adviser: Nuhu Ribadu NE; Chief of Army Staff: Lt.- General Olufemi Olatubosun SW; Chief of Air Staff: Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar NW; Chief of Naval Staff: Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla SE; Inspector General of Police: Kayode Egbetokun SW; Director General of the DSS: Tosin Ajayi SW; Director General of the NIA: Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed NC;  Chief of Defence Intelligence: Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye SS; Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service: Kemi Nandap NC (by marriage); Comptroller-General of Customs: Bashir Adewale Adeniyi SW; Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service: Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche SE; Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency: Mohammed Buba Marwa NE;

    Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission: Olanipekun Olukoyede SW; Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission: Shehu Usman Mohammed NW;

Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps: Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi NC; Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission: Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu NW; CEO, Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit: Hajiya Hafsat Bakari NE; and Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service: Engr. Jaji O. Abdulganiyu, NC

He emphasised that a dispassionate analysis of the president’s appointments would show that the Northwest was dominant, followed by the Southwest, explaining that this was due to the zones’ high population.

“The Northwest has dominated President Tinubu’s appointments precisely because it is Nigeria’s most populous geopolitical zone. When you read the enabling law setting up the Federal Character Commission, population is one of the factors you take into account when fulfilling the Federal Character principle,” he explained.

He states, “27% of Nigeria’s population is from the Northwest, and 20% is from the Southwest. In addition, the Southwest is by far the most educated part of Nigeria. Therefore, these two regions will dominate any government built on merit and federal character.”

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has appealed to foreign media, including the British Broadcasting Corporation, Sky News, and Deutsche Welle, to balance their stories on the senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and her allegation of sexual harassment against the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

A flurry of reactions has greeted the allegation, with the Kogi Central senator utilising several media outlets, including influential foreign platforms to push her case.

However, Omokri cautioned the foreign media to tread carefully, given the background of Akpoti-Uduaghan, who he claimed had levied false allegations against other prominent citizens.

“I am not sure that it serves the public interest of justice to publish Senator Natasha Akpoti’s current allegations against Nigeria’s Senate President without also informing your viewers that this woman has a history of making false and unfounded allegations after altercations with men,” he said in a statement on Saturday, adding, “In the interest of transparency, please balance your coverage.”

Omokri said he was once a victim of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s false allegation, “Senator Natasha Akpoti, whom you have repeatedly given a platform, falsely accused me of the same offence for which she now accuses Senator Godswill Akpabio in 2021, after an altercation with me.”

He said she retracted, then deleted her accusations when he proved with unimpeachable evidence, including his passport stamp and a first-class British Airways ticket, that he was not in Nigeria during a May 6, 2014, state banquet for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, which was the date and time when she falsely claimed he sexually harassed her.

“On the contrary, my boss, then President Goodluck Jonathan, had sent me as a Special Envoy to the United States in the heat of the Chibok Girls’ abduction and the ensuing #BringBackOurGirls campaign, which involved then-U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama. From there, I flew to see my children in California,” he explained.

He said he accepted an out-of-court settlement and a hefty monetary compensation following her fiancée’s intervention and a clergyman’s intervention to get her off the hook of a defamation suit he instituted to clear his name.

He stated, “After retracting her lies and deleting the video she had made levelling her accusations against me and peddling sundry other untruths, her then fiancée, Mr Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, now her husband, called me on a three-way call with a major Christian clergyman and appealed to me, as a Pastor, to accept an out-of-court settlement, which I did. I was subsequently paid considerable money, which was styled as an offering.”

Omokri said while he could not ascertain the truth of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegation against Akpabio, he opined that the claim was suspect because of her record of levelling false accusations against prominent persons.

“I am not a statistician. However, if you ask me, I would suspect that the chances that a former Presidential spokesman, a Cabinet Minister, and a Senate President all sexually harassed the same woman are slim to none,” he said, adding, “Consequently, I urge you to be conscious that getting the facts right is the cardinal principle of journalism.”

  • Omokri accuses Abati of political bias over call for Tinubu’s impeachment

Omokri accuses Abati of political bias over call for Tinubu’s impeachment

Former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri has criticised veteran journalist and broadcaster, Dr. Reuben Abati, accusing him of political bias in his analysis of President Bola Tinubu’s remarks regarding governance in Rivers State.

In a viral video shared on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Omokri responded to a segment aired on Arise Television, where Abati claimed the President was acting as a dictator by suggesting that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) would make laws for Rivers State.

Omokri refuted the claim, insisting that Abati had misrepresented the President’s statement.

“The President never said that. If you listen to the broadcast by the President on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, what the President said is that the new Administrator will not make any laws for Rivers State.

“However, he will be free to make regulations, and those regulations will be under the supervision of the Federal Executive Council and will be promulgated by the President. Listen to the President.

“The President did not say that the Administrator would make laws. What the President said clearly, again, is that the Administrator would make regulations under the supervision of the Federal Executive Council. Regulations, not laws,” the former presidential media aide stated.

Omokri further criticized Abati’s understanding of governance and legal distinctions.

He said: “Now, there’s a difference. And if a PhD holder does not know the difference between a regulation and a law, then it’s a sad reflection on Nigeria’s education sector.”

He also warned against misleading narratives that could fuel unnecessary agitation.

His words: “I’m going to break it down for those who listened to Dr. Abati’s broadcast and will now start maybe agitating for the National Assembly to impeach the President.

A law is a legal framework empowering a government or an authority. A regulation is a set of rules that enables a government or an authority to give effect to a law.”

Omokri also questioned Abati’s intent, suggesting that political bias might have influenced his interpretation.

“It’s either he did not watch the President, or if he watched the President, then he does not understand the distinction between a regulation and a law. And there’s another option. It is possible that he has been blinded by his own political bias,” he stated.

Concluding his remarks, Omokri called on Nigerian media outlets to ensure clarity between news reporting and personal opinions.

“That’s why it is important for television stations in Nigeria not to allow politically exposed persons to pass off their opinions as news. So it should be made clear to Nigerians who are watching any TV station that what you’re watching is not news, but the opinion of a person,” he said.

Omokri accuses El-Rufai of spreading falsehoods about Kaduna security

…says ex-governor unhappy due to inability to control his successor

Former presidential media aide Reno Omokri has accused ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of spreading misinformation about the Tinubu administration’s security efforts in Kaduna.

Omokri alleged that El-Rufai is frustrated because he can no longer remotely control his successor, Governor Uba Sani, or influence the state’s governance.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Omokri stated that over 14 notorious bandit leaders have been eliminated under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

These, according to him, are Kachalla Ali Kawaje, Kachalla Halilu Sububu, Kachalla Damina, Kachalla Dangote, and Kachalla Jafaru.

Others include Kachalla Barume, Kachalla Shehu Tsoho, Kachalla Yellow Mai Buhu, Yellow Sirajo, Kachalla Dan Muhammadu, Kachalla Makasko, Yellow Hassan, Boderi, Kachalla Dan Ba Birki, and Auta Dan Mai Jan Kai.

“As a result of this, peace has returned to Kaduna and its neighboring states,” Omokri said. “We no longer see photos of prominent individuals meeting with heavily armed bandit leaders in broad daylight without consequences, as occurred under El-Rufai’s administration.”

He further claimed that ransom payments to bandits have ceased, with many criminals now being killed, arrested, tried, and convicted.

Omokri urged Nigerians to dismiss El-Rufai’s statements, accusing him of attempting to discredit the government’s security successes.

    Omokri is shameless, says El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai yesterday categorised ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri among those who lack “total shamelessness”.

Omokri on Tuesday said the former governor was fingered as a major contributor to the genocide of Southern Kaduna Christians.

But, El-Rufai yesterday responded to a post on X by Imran U. Wakili, who shared a photo of El-Rufai and Omokri, with the words: “The greatest thing a mentor can offer is the freedom, recognition, and opportunities you need to succeed in life, far more valuable than money.

“A former minister who noticed you when you were unknown and helped you build a reputation has already given you everything. Unfortunately, wisdom has nothing to do with age!”

El-Rufai, via his verified handle @elrufai, quoted Wakili’s post, adding the words: “Please Imran, let them be.

“The only qualifications needed to be on the payroll are (1) moral flexibility, (2) total shamelessness, (3) selective amnesia, (4) wretched upbringing and (5) intense craving for quick and easy money. The future doesn’t matter. Integrity is debatable. Truth is out!!”

Omokri had added that the former governor admitted on multiple occasions to paying killer herdsmen while he was governor.

Omokri said: “Nasir el-Rufai’s government was indicted in the Zaria Shiite massacre of Saturday, December 12, 2015, where 438 Shiite men, women, children and infants were slaughtered in one of Africa’s worst human rights violations.

“Additionally, Mr. El-Rufai was specifically cited for demolishing the homes of his political opponents in Kaduna.

“Finally, his reckless utterances against Christians, whereby on Saturday, January 27, 2013, he insulted Jesus Christ, and on Friday, January 18, 2019, when he said, ‘Even if I bring the Pope, Christians will never vote for me.’”

  • Your arrest fear a ruse, Omokri Tells el-Rufai

Your arrest fear a ruse, Omokri Tells el-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir el-Rufai’s claim that  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration plans to arrest and prosecute him is unfounded, a former presidential aide has said.

Reno Omokri said el-Rufai’s alarm was his habitual strategy of manipulating the public whenever he lost out in a power game.

The former governor recently raised the alarm that the federal government planned to arrest and prosecute him, insisting that he would not be intimidated into going into exile. He said he would remain in the country to lead the fight for good governance.

However, Omokri, in a statement, said el-Rufai was suffering from a persecution complex, noting that the former governor had accused past governments of targeting him.

He said: “The same Nasir el-Rufai, who falsely accused President Goodluck Jonathan of planning to kill him, is the same person now accusing President Bola Tinubu of wanting to arrest him. Indeed, the devil has no new tricks other than recycling the same old tired lies!”

Omokri contended that el-Rufai’s allegation was a veiled attempt to ward off ongoing investigations of his administration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He explained that the former governor habitually manipulated public opinion to shield his shortcomings.

He accused the former governor of politicising a legitimate criminal investigation, “If the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigates and finds him wanting for financial crimes, that is not a political action. That is purely a law enforcement incident, and the only defence against that would not be that ‘President Tinubu is after me.’ It would be that you are innocent.”

Digging into el-Rufai’s past, Omokri said the former governor would go to any length, including spreading false propaganda, to achieve his purpose.

He said: “On page 272 of ‘Power, Politics and Death: A Front-row Account of Nigeria Under the Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’, a former THISDAY editor and former President Umaru Yar’Adua’s spokesman, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, wrote, ‘On the way, Balat, himself a former minister in Obasanjo’s government, asked, ‘Segun, this cabal thing, were you a member?’ Before I could respond, former Federal Capital Territory minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who played a prominent role in the campaign that eventually brought Jonathan to power, interjected, ‘There was no cabal, we created the myth in the media to neutralize Turai (Yar’Adua’s wife).”

Omokri pointed out that el-Rufai spread the propaganda about a non-existent cabal while he was in exile for fear of criminal investigation by the President Yar’Adua administration.

“If el-Rufai could lie against a man on his deathbed and his devastated wife, who is President Tinubu that he cannot lie against?” he queried.

He dismissed the former governor’s claim that a former senator, Shehu Sani, had been recruited to destroy his (el-Rufai) reputation as unfounded.

He said, “Nasir el-Rufai was described by his boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a known liar in his book, My Watch Volume 2. In that work, former President Obasanjo said, ‘Nasir’s penchant for reputation savaging is almost pathological. Why does he do it? I recognised his weaknesses, the worst being his inability to be loyal to anybody or any issue consistently, but only to Nasir el-Rufai.

“He barefacedly lied, which he did to me against his colleagues and so-called friends. I have heard of how he ruthlessly savaged the reputation of his uncle, a man who was like his foster father in the African setting. I shuddered when I heard what he did to his half-brother in the Air Force, who is senior to him in age.”

    • •‘Obidients freely threatening, harassing others’
    • •Ex-Anambra governor lied, says APC

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday faulted the death threat claim by ex-Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The party said its spokesman did not threaten Obi.

But former Vice President Atiku Abubakar backed Obi, accusing the Tinubu Administration of “stifling” opposition voices.

Obi, via his X page, had asked if he had “crossed the line” with his New Year message as claimed by APC spokesman Felix Morka.

He wrote: “Have I really crossed the line? I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me.

“While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of ‘crossing the line’ and has warned that I will face the consequences.”

He also accused the Tinubu Administration of “increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed”.

But, Omokri said Obi had allowed his supporters, known as Obidients, to threaten and harass those opposed to the former Anambra State governor’s presidential ambition.

Omokri slammed what he called Obi’s lack of accountability over the behaviour of his supporters.

He wrote: “I am rather surprised that you are now talking about death threats. So, you know it is wrong to act in such a manner?

“When your Obidients were threatening the life of my one-year-old daughter, what did you do? I brought it to your attention. You did nothing.

“Every single day, I receive over ten death threats from Obidients. Have you called them out? Obidients came to my house in England, tracked me to my jogging route and released my U.S. address. What did you, Peter Obi, do about that?

“Professor Wole Soyinka, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor Poju Oyemade, Sam Omatseye, and a host of others have been threatened, insulted, abused and maligned by the vicious mob you trained and unleashed on Nigeria.

“And after gathering a horde of uncouth, mannerless, and aggressive rudapests, you are now acting the victim? Claiming that Nigeria is becoming an ‘authoritarian and repressive regime’?

“Was it not your Obidients that threatened to burn down Fela’s Shrine because Femi Kuti did not support you?

“When your running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, said that swearing in Bola Tinubu as President would mark the end of democracy in Nigeria, what did you do?

“If you are looking for authoritarianism, Peter, buy a mirror and look at it!”

    APC denies threatening Obi

In a statement, the APC said Obi’s allegation that Morka threatened his life is “a self-evident malicious lie and an attention-seeking, playing-the-victim, emotional blackmail”.

“His claim is patently false and reprehensible,” the party said.

It added: “Morka did not threaten Mr Obi or his family or those around him or anyone.

“Morka has absolutely no reason to, and has never, threatened Obi or anyone. Nothing that Morka said in that interview or any other forum remotely contains or suggests a threat against Mr. Obi or anyone else.

“Morka will continue to hold Obi and other opposition actors accountable for their actions just as they seek to, and should, hold our great party and administration accountable when truth and public trust are compromised.

“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libelled Morka to the extreme and has incited his online mob to make death threats against Morka and members of his family. That is unacceptable.”

APC maintained that while everyone has a right to free speech, no one has a right to peddle misinformation or outright falsehood.

“The right to free speech granted by our country’s Constitution is not Mr. Obi’s exclusive right but a right that is available to all Nigerians, including Morka.

“Mr. Obi cannot disseminate misinformation and demand or expect that no one should disagree or challenge his false narrative.

“Ours is a democracy where every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation, is entitled to agree or disagree with other political views or opinions.

“More than any other Nigerian in this political dispensation, Mr. Obi has exercised his fundamental liberty to speak and disseminate his political views in person, in the formal and on social media.

“Obi leads a restless band of online mob who continue to attack, intimidate, bully and issue death threats to other citizens who dare disagree or criticize Obi or his opinions or position on any subject or matter of national conversation.

“Many eminent and highly respected elder statesmen have been serially attacked, humiliated and bullied by Obi’s online followers. Obi has never condemned their conduct or called them to order.

“Obi must think himself to be Nigeria’s sacred cow, the super citizen, quintessential, without blemish, beyond reproach, always right, never wrong, and endowed with the supreme and inalienable right to deride, castigate, intimidate blackmail and incite Nigerians against other political leaders who disagree with him, even those who defeated him decisively in the last general election.

“Mr. Obi is not entitled to any monolithic or exclusive constitutional or extraterrestrial liberty over and above any other citizen.”

APC called on Obi to immediately set the record straight, withdraw his false allegation against Morka, and call his online supporters to order.

“Morka stands ready to explore all available recourse mechanisms in valiant defence of his decency and impeccable reputation,” the party said.

APC’s threat to Obi disturbing, says Atiku

Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar urged Morka to clarify his comments.

In a statement, Atiku described Morka’s comments as inflammatory and a “disturbing emblem of the current administration’s unsettling strategy in addressing opposition figures”.

He said: “This threat against Obi, coupled with the prolonged detention of Mahdi Shehu, a prominent voice of dissent and others, signals a worrisome shift towards an authoritarian governance model, where the rights of opposition voices are being suffocated.

“The choice of words used by the APC’s spokesperson, particularly the ominous suggestion that Obi has ‘crossed the line’, reveals an alarming disdain for democratic principles.

“Such language, rooted in hostility, has no place in a free society where civil discourse and engagement should reign supreme.

“A true democracy thrives on the healthy exchange of ideas, where the criticisms and contributions of opposition leaders, like Peter Obi, are seen as vital for the betterment of governance and the promotion of public accountability.

“It is not merely the right, but the solemn duty of a democratic government to listen attentively to the voices of its critics, to engage in meaningful dialogue, and to allow space for the articulation of alternative viewpoints.

“Instead, we are faced with a chilling threat that suggests Obi must ‘be ready for whatever comes his way’. What, exactly, does Mr. Morka imply by this? It is imperative that the ruling party provides clarity on this disturbing insinuation.

“Equally troubling is the crude and disparaging manner in which the APC spokesperson has framed Peter Obi’s calls for constructive engagement, likening them to a lawless Wild West scenario.

“Such reckless and derogatory expressions cannot be tolerated, and it is incumbent upon the APC to issue a formal apology to Obi and the Nigerian people for such disgraceful language.

“The case of Mallam Shehu, languishing in detention without any clear explanation for his continued imprisonment, adds to the growing concern about the erosion of freedoms in Nigeria.

“If there is anyone who has truly ‘crossed the line’, it is the Tinubu administration, whose continuous vilification of opposition figures as mere irritants to be crushed is a dangerous precedent.”

According to Atiku, it is time to end the “stifling of voices that are crucial to the health of any functioning democracy”.

  • It’s easy to accuse others, Omokri fires at Obi

It’s easy to accuse others, Omokri fires at Obi

Social commentator Reno Omokri has accused former presidential candidate Peter Obi of excusing himself while accusing others.

Omokri said this in a long post on his official X account.

He mentioned that while President Tinubu has been criticised by Peter Obi for his foreign travels, the trips have yielded an increase in foreign investments.

He wrote, “Mr. Obi talked about the President’s foreign travels. But they are to bring investments to Nigeria, and it is working. FDI has increased by 28% under Tinubu. Because of President Tinubu’s official visit to Brazil, the biggest livestock company on Earth, JBS SA, has already begun investing $2.5 billion in Nigeria.

“Coca-Cola announced in September 2024 that, having foreseen “significant social and economic advancements” in Nigeria under Tinubu, it will invest $1 billion in Nigeria over the next five years. And there are many others.

“Plus, Tinubu’s son, Seyi, is here investing in Nigeria for Nigerians. Where is Peter Obi’s son, Peter Oseloka Obi? And what is he doing, and who is he ‘investing’ in in London?

“President Tinubu is proud of his son, Seyi’s lifestyle of employing thousands of Nigerians through his businesses. Seyi Tinubu is an Omoluabi who adds value to his father’s government and Nigeria. Seyi Tinubu is visible. He is one of us. He mixes with the masses.

“But can the same be said about Peter Obi’s son? Charity begins at home. If Seyi Tinubu is fair game, then let us see Oseloka Obi. Is Obi ashamed of his son’s lifestyle? Would he be willing to throw the spotlight on Oseloka the way he and his Obidients have rudely thrown it on Seyi?

“Why the scrutiny on Seyi Tinubu and the secrecy on Oseloka Obi?

“Asking Tinubu to have his medical in Nigeria is all well and good, especially as Tinubu conceived, initiated, started, completed, and commissioned seven hospitals while he was Lagos Governor. My question to Mr. Peter Obi is this: How many hospitals did he conceive, initiate, start, complete, and commission in the eight years he was Anambra Governor?

“Talk is cheap. It is one thing to accuse others. It is another thing to excuse yourself.”

  • Omokri: Obi lacks moral authority to criticise Tinubu’s economic policies

Omokri: Obi lacks moral authority to criticise Tinubu’s economic policies

A former presidential aide, Mr Reno Omokri, has said that Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, lacks the moral authority to criticise President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.

The Labour Party’s former candidate recently assessed the President’s performance as below par. He said his economic policies had left many Nigerians poorer than he met them, advising the President to tour the states to experience first-hand the high poverty rate across the country.

However, Omokri, in a statement on Friday, said Obi did not have the moral right to make adverse comments on Tinubu’s economic policies, because as the governor of Anambra State, his people’s poverty level worsened.

“Peter Obi, who worsened poverty in Anambra State, has no moral authority to accuse President Tinubu, who is reducing it,” the former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan said, adding, “Mr Obi’s recent blunder, in which he urged the President to travel to the states to see the poverty level faced by Nigerians, is just another reminder that the only New Year resolution he appears to have made is to continue to misrepresent statistics through propaganda.”

Omokri recalled that under Tinubu’s watch, Lagos State experienced a reduction in poverty while Obi increased misery in his home state of Anambra State.

“Before Peter Obi took over as Governor of Anambra, poverty in that state was 41.4%. However, under Mr Obi, it grew to 53.7%. This is partly because Peter Obi refused to use the state’s allocations to build infrastructure, preferring to deposit them in his bank to yield interest,” he stated.

He said that rather than building schools and improving the education of his people, the former governor of Anambra State chose to build breweries, which he claimed benefited his family’s interests.

Omokri said Obi’s persistent criticism of Tinubu’s economic policies was mischievous because it discountenanced its increasing gains in the last 18 months.

He said that with the autonomy the President has secured for the local governments, the people at the grassroots level will witness poverty reduction as the councils’ direct funding starts this month.

He pointed out that improved security and local refining of petroleum products would help the President’s efforts to tame inflation. He contended that the former Labour Party presidential candidate was too fixated on president-bashing to see the gains of the ongoing economic reforms.

Omokri said: “Obi is fixated on President Tinubu because he wants the President’s power and the ability to wield it well. Therefore, he is the wrong person to advise about fighting poverty. Obi is the problem. President Tinubu is the solution.

“Obi is blind to the progress happening in Nigeria. Before President Tinubu assumed office, no single refinery in Nigeria worked, and Nigeria depended on imports for our refined petroleum needs.

“However, within 18 months of President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria had three major refineries working: the Dangote, Port Harcourt and Warri refineries. We are now a net exporter of Premium Motor Spirits, and this is the first Yuletide season when Nigerians enjoyed both fuel availability and a fuel price reduction.”

The former presidential aide also faulted the former governor’s critique of the President’s foreign trips, pointing out that they were an investment drive. “Mr. Obi talked about the President’s foreign travels. But they are to bring investments to Nigeria, and it is working. FDI has increased by 28% under Tinubu.”

Omokri dismissed Obi’s latest attack on Tinubu as another power grab by a political desperado. “When asked about the so-called merger between his Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, he said that though there was not one yet, these parties must come together to ‘defeat the APC’.”

Omokri said this statement showed that the emerging political alliance against the President and his party was not in the people’s interest.

Omokri said: “Just look at that. Not to uplift more Nigerians out of poverty, end insecurity, not to reduce out-of-school children, not to boost local manufacturing, increase foreign direct investment, widen the tax collection base, or even end the situation in the Southeast.

“They just want to unite to defeat the APC. Power is their only goal, not people. No wonder Rabiu Kwankwaso rejected their so-called merger.

“Desperate politicians whose only agenda is to get power at any cost, even if the price is a “religious war” against the Muslim Ummah!

“May God never let them achieve their nefarious plans for Nigeria.”
